Corroded hardware 5. Loose trim rings 6. Broken sacs 7. Clips that get bent out of place 8. Hard to grip or turn piston knobs 9. Patterns that don’t line up between the cap and the body of the pen 10. Pens that need priming every time I start writing
My biggest annoyance with fountain pens is just trying to find the right paper. If I'm writing in my journal or something like that then of course I have nice paper, but if I need to write on anything that is not my own paper it's just not going to go well
When I can’t get a converter/pen filled from a bottle when there is plenty of ink and no good reason why it won’t fill and I have to end up getting a syringe after making a huge mess! 😂
Why is there such a price difference in #6 jowo nib pens. You spend a lot of money for a pen and you have to use micro mesh on the first fill. Rachelle in Seattle
I don’t know why some are more (when they’re not a special grind/stack nib), gold/silver nibs we understand or the larger nibs. The nib should be perfect out of the box.
Price gouging, there is no reason (besides precious metal pen bodies) that any custom pen should be more than 75$ if it comes with a jowo or bock steel nib. Realistically acrylic pen blanks are 3-8$ and the nib is 6-8 wholesale, lets just leave a tiny bit of wiggle room and call it $20 in materials, the rest is labor and profit, and in reality if they are well trained it would take an hour max to make, even less time if it’s a company using CNC machines
I do not like hard starters and dirty cap leakers. The place of ink is not meant to be inside the cap. Nibs with always ink on it are horrible too. And pens that aren’t clean even after 100 flushings or ultrasone sessions are not good for my mood.
@fountainpensinksmore3290 Hi Jane, I can relate to this list, especially number 1. ARGHHHHH!!! I just got my first Esterbrook pen today. It took a while to get it even though I ordered it within an hour of its release ~ the BunGuBox Kachofugetsu Flower (like you, I find it hard to pass up anything BunGuBox!!). Let me tell you what a DISAPPOINTMENT it was. This nib is scratchier than H€LL! 😠 I have no fewer than 100 JoWo nibbed pens in my stash, and this is the first one that is awful, truly awful. I am so annoyed because it is one of those laser engraved jobs with the Japanese character for "flower" on the nib, so I don't want to just swap it out with a spare nib I might have somewhere. I was thinking about ordering it from BunGuBox and getting the Kodachi grind to see what that is all about, but I ended up ordering it from Esterbrook because I wasn't sure if I would like an Etsie. I’m so sorry Neko-kitty, nothing is worst then a bad nib, IMO! It makes the whole pen. I don’t know if you’re able visit a pen show. If you can they can work wonders with the nib, maybe contact Esterbrook see what they suggest. Hopefully something works out.

YES and yes! They all drive me nuts!
I hate when I miss a limited edition pen and I can't get it even on the secondary market. I'm looking at you, Esterbrook Candy 😂

We all understand! Some nibs/inks do not work well with papers. The struggle is real!
7.Very difficult to find spare parts and restorers for F.P. Vintage.
I haven’t explored the vintage FPs yet, I can see parts being difficult to find.
I’m very new to the world of fountain pens so mine is my inability to fill my pen without getting ink on my hand.
I’m not new to fountain pens, 98% of the time my hands look like they’ve been trashed.
It’s very common to get inked all over your hands, for me is.
