    This was a good one. I'm an old school BMX'er from the late 80s/early 90s and just getting back into it and I understand what a freecoaster is but didn't really have any idea how they worked technically so this was awesome for me. I really like that you know all about stuff you personally don't use as well, really shows your depth of knowledge. Cheers.

    I've fallin in love with freecoasters. it is definitely a learning curve and is something that you just get accustomed to over time. Thanks so much for this tutorial!

    I I just watched a complete tutorial step by step of how to take your washers out to adjust slack, but I don't trust anyone's how-to's until I see Alf do it! Speaks volumes for what you do. Thx for the help my G!

    I have a WTP on my Kink and I hate it. It’s got about 2/3-3/4 of a full rotation of slack that you have to push through before you’re applying power again. Unless I’m doing a trick where I’m really moving, I end up having to put a foot down before it reengages again half the time. My buddies bike I learned to freecoaster on was only maybe 1/5 of a rotation. I’m going to be adding a few washers/spacers to mine to fix it this week

    Reminder. When rolling backwards when using a coaster. YOU DO NOT USE PEDAL PRESSURE TO RIDE OUT OF A FAKIE. HALF CAB OR SLIDE OUT. When the hub is rolling backwards and you put pedal pressure. That clutch is getting the splines on it worn down. Eventually the clutch won't engage and give you pedal pressure. It'll feel like it not catching, and at that point, your clutch is trashed.

    Hey Alfredo Mancuso, I know you are very busy but I hope I´ll help me out with my Primo Freecoaster Problems. I watched the Video multiple times but some Problems still exist. Problem 1: When I removed the conut and the Driver I wasn´t able to remove the axle with mens power -> question: can I use a hammer for or will it destroy the coaster? Problem 2: When I reinstall the Driver and the conut, there is space between the Driver and the conut... I can´t tighten it and If I reinstall the whole wheal it woombles around even if I tighten the nuts af. I hope you can help me out bro b,ecause you are the best teacher in the world ;) Sorry for my bad english, I hope it´s ok to read.

    Can you replace just the springs that hold the clutch centered? One of the little balls popped out of the bolt that holds it in and I just removed the bolt and put it back in and put the clutch over and it has been working fine. Will I need to replace my hub or can I still ride on it?

    one thing about waiting for uploads living in Baltimore is waiting all day lol so if the springs get destroyed it basically will turn into a cassette and not free coast anymore or did I listen to it wrong? I usually watch some of the tech vids a few times just to have a better understanding

  • @derekandre9302
    @derekandre9302 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So to get this clear when you go backwards the clutch disengages and threads way until it stops at the end of the threads. Then when you go there pedal for ward the clutch threads back up to the driver and depending on how much distance is between the driver and clutch depends on the slack?

    Nice video man. How often do you need to re-grease the hub?

    • @imehandle
      @imehandle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is recommended to wipe and re-grease it after it breaks in and then every 2 months if you ride it a lot... otherwise every 5 months (or something like that). Also if you ride in a rainy weather and it gets soaked you should do it asap.
      They also recommended to put tons of grease on the driver, in the clutch, hub shell, on spacers, on the clutch threads etc.
      This is what they told me in my local store (Evolution), in the Source BMX and the guy from BSD. Also Dan's Comp recommends pretty much the same.
      This is how i do it now and what i heard works for others... so i would stick to that.

    my coaster hasn't given me any issues in three years but all of the sudden it's starting to take a whole crank for it to engage, any tips on how to fix that?

  • @sampring1587
    @sampring1587 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So say you've got a free coaster and you disengage it then quarter turn to engage it but you stop pedalling at the bottom of a pedal stroke then do to pedal again and sometimes there not much slack but other times it doesn't engage for a few pedal strokes that have a little pressure and tries to engage

    • @Peculiarsafe83
      @Peculiarsafe83 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Pring I've seen this happen before, I'm not sure what causes it, but it might have to do with how many slack rings you have in the hub, I'm pretty sure if there's no slack rings in there with full slack, when you pedal backwards it feels like it does what you're describing but I'm not exactly sure.

    + Alfredo Mancuso I have considered getting one but don't know about the slack factor. Can you make it almost engage instantly? And what about the Profile FC? I heard it is the best of both without slack if you set it prior to your trick/s

    • @42creativestudio51
      @42creativestudio51 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can make it engage almost like a cassette but it will engage a lot when you go backwards since it's very hard to keep your feet perfectly still at all times (for example when landing hard from a 180). If you want to try a coaster with pawls I recommend the Saltplus Trapez, it has a smaller slack and I think you can even make it a cassette hub if you do not like it as a coaster.

    • @nevernotkillingit5208
      @nevernotkillingit5208 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slack is your friend with a freecoaster, no slack being your enemy. Without slack, you're going to end up accidently applying pressure on the pedals when you land tricks such as a 180, the clutch will engage, and you're getting blown off the back on the regs = not fun. If you want to imagine how a coaster feels without buying one first then remove your chain and boom... it's pretty much that with the ability to engage and pedal still. You don't want to use pedal pressure for tricks with a coaster, so if you're someone who uses pressure for pop in half cabs, etc then something to bare in mind is that you will have to adapt how you do certain things to suit.

    • @nevernotkillingit5208
      @nevernotkillingit5208 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... I ran an old trapez, and you can switch between coaster and cassette... great hubs however I personally blew through two axles in a year, replacement axle sets run at £60 in the U.K. due to individual axles not being stocked by retailer due to their rare use... having bought one I opted not to go for another as there comes a point where I would have spent the same on axle kits as I could a new wheel.

      Not sure if they really make aftermarket bearings that improve the ride

      They're too small. You could get some precision bearings made.

    Hey Alf I know this isn't relevant but do you know I'm super curious if you know if Austin augie and TCU/OSS are cool with each other or not. People are wondering on his channel and it got me thinking, I know he did the interview with Adam and was in a couple vlogs. Anyway thanks!

    Alfredo necesito una ayuda por favor tengo una freecoaster Cult Match v2 que la compre hace pocos meses y bueno le hice un mantenimiento, la limpie y la reengrase y ahora cuando pedaleo hacia adelante y luego hago hacia atrás me hace un ruido fuerte y otro problema es que las freecoasters tienen un juego que es el slack q es por lo general un cuarto de vuelta, bueno en la mía hace más que eso a veces ha llegado a hacer dos vueltas o tres sin enganchar y no se como solucionarlo no se si será porque no use la grasa que tenía, pero no encuentro la solución y nadie me responde nada, saludos de Argentina!

      Le falta mas grasa y puede que le pusiste los espaciadores mal

      Alfredo Mancuso es que no le saqué el slack así que no tiene espaciadores el problema empezó desde el primer mantenimiento que le hice y lo hice siguiendo este tutorial y otros y me patina hace hasta varias vueltas de palanca sin enganchar, y por dentro no hay nada gastado 🙁

      Alfredo Mancuso puede ser problema de los pins que sujetan el clutch, yo alargue el muelle de dentro y me fue bien
