As a Chelsea fan, I think City played really well. We were sloppy in the midfield and defended too much for no reason. Let’s learn from this defeat and move forward.

Chelsea didn't expect the heavy press by City in the first half itself...the excess pressure led to the goal...Tuchel reacted well by bringing in Havertz in ,making it almost 3 strikers in place of Kante,which almost led to the goal.. ..what a good game

There's no shame in accepting the defeat when the opponent's are good. Chelsea's lineup was good enough but we were off tactically. Losing is good, it keeps the players and the coach humble and shows where they need to improve because nobody is perfect. Now we focus on the Champions League.

I have to admit that City were unplayable today congrats to them. But on the brighter side we have 4 out of 5 "top 6" rivals out of the way.
@@Browne7100 Yeah sure, what happened to Liverpool today is a great exaple of that and there will be harder games than those we had against Suprs and Arsenal but teams like City or Liverpool are alawys tough and tricky games no matter what and the fact we are after this dense period where almost every week there was a high profile game with a very decent points tally is a great thing despite today's lose

1. Having only Werner and Lukaku upfront has made me realize how badly we’re missing a good creative winger, ziyech and CHO have been average at best so far this season and Pulisic is still out. I miss him so much...
2. All the team did for more than half the match was sit on their heels and allow city to attack. They were basically inviting pressure on the defense. We’re lucky our defense was rigid enough to concede just one goal.
3. As much as I love Jorginho, kovacic and kante, they rarely offer any real attacking threat. When RLC came on, his few moments on the ball were brilliant, he swatted away any opponent that challenged him both physically and with skill, but by then it was too late. City’s game plan was to kill the game.
Overall I guess it simply came down to creativity, which we had 0% of till late in the game . We only had 5 shots, none of which were on target, and we were at home. Our defense was brilliant, our attack was the exact opposite. We didn’t even press. Our midfield needs a serious work over
Nice analysis, I mostly agree. I genuinely think our midfield 3 did not have their best game. Kova is normally excellent at dribbling past opponents and setting of an attack and he did not do that well today, Kante surprisingly had a bad game too, rarely won any balls back and when he did, his passing was poor. RLC reminded me of Yahya toure when came on lol, he was excellent.
Before the game, Tuchel said that Ziyech and Havertz have been bit low in confidence and that's definitely reflected by their recent performances and with Mount and Pulsic injured I think Tuchel was almost forced to play a the formation he did. it was just an off day for Chelsea and a great day for city, and even though they were absolutely relentless, they could only score a deflected shot to win the game which is a testament to our defence.
leogriev yup, it was an off day. Plus Guardiola finally did his homework on Tuchel lol. I also feel like Reece coming off added to the need to hang back and defend. Azpi rarely left our half. I think TT just needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink his tactics and options.
They played not to lose. This means they feared attacking the city press so they went in a defensive shell.
J Gaffney by half time it was clear that wasn’t working and we needed an offensive push. But TT didn’t seem to trust his options enough

Having spending big upfront & playing home without shots on target is absolutely criminal. Not to say we have offensive talents on the bench. At 72nd min we are still playing build-from-the-back is outwitted since City have more than half of the team in our final 3rd. Hope Tuchel will learn from this loss.
Starting with 8 defensive players (excluding Mendy) and trying to defend a 0:0 draw from the start was already criminal. The performance itself was relegation level.
Chelsea fans last week: "The 3-5-2 is our secret weapon, that midfield trio is so good, we unstoppable!"

Very poor game at the Bridge . Honestly we couldn't make 5 passes and try to take hold of the game. With Lukaku we can't high press anyone . He is world class but there is a reason why we won the semis against Madrid with Werner, Havert and Mount upfront

tbh man city actually defended well. Whenever we attacked, it was very dangerous.
0 on target and besides once City scored they slowed down the press allowing you to attack but you were caught on the break many times if City had a proper striker thus would have turned ugly like 4/5 0 riot.
Ederson always came out of his pole when through balls were given to our forwards... We taught him a big lesson in UCL

Lukaku's presence has changed too many things. When we used to play the ball safely wide, we are trying to play direct balls to Lukaku. It's predictable and was cut outmany times. Additionally, Lukaku does not press effectively. I hope TT realizes we need to play like we did before. Build methodically, generate a few good chances, but now we have a good finisher to close them off. We should not change our game because he is there, he needs to adapt his game to help create like we used to, but finish them because he can.

Yet somehow bottled it - to finish 4th on the last day and scrape a champions league victory against a pensioner Madrid team and Man City (enough said really about them) -Lukaku is a target man - you have to play a more direct way to get the best out of him .. and he's already scored more than Werner last year

All of a sudden Chelsea stops winning the ball in advanced positions and looks lost vs city, then u look at the guy up front who lazily takes a step toward a defender and jogs around. That works against mid table teams, which is where we dropped points to win the league. The old strategies clearly won us the CL and we shouldn't abandon it because wow we spent 100m on a CF. We can employ different strategies against different teams with the squad we have.

I watched Lukaku against France. It's like you have to beg the man to raise his feet and even jog. It's his attitude. Always looking dejected. Werner is a good example. He misses a chance, just takes it on the chest and moves on, hopes hell score the next one.

There's no shame in losing to Man City and it's still such early days in the season - It's hardly a title decider. There's 32 games left and still so much to go.

This was a great game, City had the edge tactically and individually. No shame in a 0-1 defeat when the opponent was THAT good. Perhaps TT can learn to always be n the offensive as that would have won us the game

It's not like Chelsea plays very badly, it just City press so good. Whenever Chelsea got the ball the press with 4 players cut they passing line to other Chelsea players. Remember too that City got lucky to score a flick. Maybe Chelsea should play better longball / direct pass if they can't relieve the pressure. We need Fabregas like players.

Tuchel's tactic is beaten today, primarily because Kante is playing bad in that game his presence is missing, and Chelsea doesn't have creativity in midfield. We played save (too deep and not enough pressure even in our half unlike City), we should play with more composure and confidence, only Silva and Loftus Cheeks play that way in the game, RLC dribbles so many player and Silva long pass is so good. Don't forget Jesus's goal is a fluke too! After that Chelsea plays different and City has more chances.

Mate you clearly don't a have a good depth of knowledge about the EPl, early games are the ones clubs should be taking advantage of because later in the season bottom half teams play their best fighting either for mid table finish or out of relegation zone. Tuchel needs to use a deadly attacking formation
Such was the defence of Chelsea that even the ruthless City needed a deflected goal to win.

People say Chelsea defended too much yeah agreed but what you don't realise is Pep's tactics pinned Chelsea back, stifled them and restricted them from the ball. That was a prime Barca pressing masterclass City deployed out there. Even when Chelsea tried to press, their press was bypassed so so easily, you could clearly see City are well drilled playing out from the back and keeping possession. Lukaku doesn't help matters at all, Man can't press at all. He presses for some minutes then drops back leaving his marker to come forward. Guy looks knackered and gassed after trying to press for a minute Being going on since his debut. You can clearly Chelsea's press is less effective,easily bypassed and passive. Interestingly Chelsea's press under Tuchel is more systematic and structured than relentless such that if 1 or 2 players are not on the same wavelength of the team, there will gaping holes to exploit making it less effective. That i give Lukaku benefit of the doubt. He's adapting and that can be coached but getting knackered and exhausted after pressing for a couple of minutes and dropping off leaving your marker in this type of pressing raises some few eyebrows. What if Tuchel decide to go back to his 4132/4312 or 4141 (pressing shapes he used at Mainz and Dortmund ) where they press more relentless, Lukaku will pass out. Tuchel has evolved since then. My other problem is why he always stays central(coaching instructions I reckon). I get that he draws players thus opening space for the 2 number 10's and wingbacks but he gets easily marked out of the game and restricted to few touches. Last season we were creating so many chances with our movements. Players were interchanging roles upfront(where you could see at one point mount/havertz/pulisic/Werner/Ziyech as a striker, second striker, left winger and right winger or Inside forwards both left and right), running through the channels, running in behind, occupying half spaces, making dummy or decoy runs to drag the defenders,creating space and stretching defences.. (our only problem was we lacked ideas to breakdown a bus parking team which was down to precision and decision marking. You would see Werner or Havertz making runs which will lead to goal scoring opportunities but mount/pulisic/Ziyech or any other player fails to pick them out rather opting for the safer option or wrong passes this could have been worked on) there's a reason why Tuchel said we weren't complex. We were predictable. They knew we were going to use Lukaku as our outlet so they blocked every passing lane leading to him then man marked him. They controlled our attacks and what made it easy for them was because there wasn't anyone to linkup play to both Lukaku and Werner. They fed off from scraps and I don't blame Tuchel for using the 352 because if he didn't pack the midfield, Foden would drop in midfield to make it a 4v2 against Chelsea. More numerical advantage.. that's the importance of Mount only if he could work on his decision making. I wish we could go back to the way we played last season and ironically Lukaku has all that stated in his locker (role interchanging, running through the channels, running in behind.. i have seen him do all of this on international duty and to some extent inter Milan.. he's more deadlier when given the freedom to interchange positions or play everywhere across the front 3 while leading the line. He even brings more diversity to our game with his hold up play, link up play and chance creation something we lacked and something he used to do for Lautaro.. he can even be coached on more of the movements.. he has good close control.. in fact it's underrated but he still needs to work on his ball retention so he doesn't lose the ball easily)
Missing mount at crucial time hurts more than anything , and also Reece ... With those two it would have been completely opposite scenario
Was scrolling to see if anyone brings up Mason, he is not a prime attacking midfielder just yet but his technical ability to transform deep defending into counter attack was missed.

Everything just needed that extra slice of luck, from second balls to deflections and passes slightly off, but good job to Chelsea holding off a highly motivated City Team

Actually Werner has given some threat to City defence with the counter and has showed enough work rate overall.
We're just lack the creativity and magical touch from Ziyech/Havertz with only 2 attackers.
Kante could be substituted at halftime if James didn't injured, and things would be different.
More importantly, it's the third consecutive league match we're dominated and didn't create enough chances at first half.
I'm still convinced with Tuchel's in-game management, but he should learn something from that lapses and make a better squad selection for the starting lineup; especially in the league where we get only 3 subs
Tactics wrong in the first half. Needed players who could take on and get forward into better positions. Maybe Chilwell down the left and someone with energy on the right could of created situations.
Mendy looked great pulled off some superb saves as City could of scored one or two more.
Overall I think attacking football is a better defence against teams like Man City. Parking the bus just creates chaotic defending and gives the opponents confidence.

Been a long time since we played so poorly. This playing out from the back was awful. Frankly we are not good enough to do that against good opposition. Sometimes goofing the ball from goalie to to striker works. We will get over it but have to learn. Poor Lukaku got no service at all but when he did his touch was bad as was nearly all the team.
Cheslea were trying to play but were pinned in they couldn't get out to save their lives.
Once City scored they slowed it down allowing Chelsea to build up play but then were hit on the counter countless times if City had proper striker it would have been a 4/5 0 riot.
Completely dominated top to bottom. 0 on target at home.

Joao Cancelo was a real threat yesterday.. his presence in the box led to the unnecessary accumulation of defense which needs to be checked.. also the sheer brilliance of Dias, almost nullified every attack of Chelsea with his tackle..
