Brilliant Swift video, Charlie. What a great idea for an almost out of date TV. Great as well for when you're demonstrating the Train Controller to "the masses".. and people like me waiting for a double cataract op! Stay well Charlie
He's a DIY tip for you Charlie. When unscrewing anything already fixed up on the wall it's easy to drop it. Solution: Firstly secure it so it doesn't fall down after removing the last screw. I'd recommend drilling a small hole through what ever you're removing and firmly screw to the wall, therefore stopping it from falling down when you remove the original fixings.............! You're welcome! Glad to be of help.....
WELL DONE CHARLIE and RICHARD, good to see the OLD FELLOW jumping up and down. I would have used a STUD FINDER, just to make sure, but you have it up and level, good to see no cables dangling underneath
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and found it interesting Graeme . We didn’t need a stud finder, as it was a solid wall built from thermal-light blocks. Regards, Charlie

Very well done video as always, as an AV technician, who installs monitors all the time those mounts are actually pretty strong, generally the weakest link is the attachment to the wall. The next thing you need to do is swap out your laptop for a little mini PC. I've bought a couple of them recently for work for about $100 US.. Used with a Bluetooth, keyboard and mouse. It's quite a wonderful thing and something you may want to think about in the future.
Hi Charlie, new subscriber here. Love the TV, you could ditch the hdmi cable and use a Microsoft display adapter. They are bulletproof and allow you to use your TV in either clone or extend by simply using Windows key and K to connect. You can then move your laptop anywhere in the room. If your control software supports it, you can control the trains from the laptop, but have the layout showing on the TV. Basically dual screen mode. Fantastic content.
We picked up our first TV that HAD to be mounted to the way sometime during the pandemic. I wasn't totally sure about mounting it myself but it was pretty similar to this and we're happy with it! Our bracket and equipment doesn't pull away from the wall though. It DOES have those cords that dangle though, unless we hook them somewhere. I really enjoy the humor in this, the passwords, and then the way your remark about the backscene not being level... wasn't level. We've got a Google TV stick in our TV and we can cast our computer or phones through the HDMI on our TV. It is a Smart TV, but I don't think that matters with the Google TV...thing. We DO have a 3.5 year old and he's done alright with the TV. He touches the lower corner of the TV regularly and the TV is fine. If he got a hold of the cords though, that could be difficult.
Hi Charlie great video as usual, when drilling into a wall if you hold a vacuum nozzle under the drill bit when drilling 99% of the mess is dealt with straight away.
Interesting video, Charlie. Really enjoyed it. Do please keep uploading as I’m in a predicament myself currently, this morning about 11am Adelaide, South Australia time, I passed out and fell down the staircase in my home. I have broken my toe considerably where its twisted and a large fracture has ensured, yay for me lol 😆. Didn’t really need this at the moment. So, I’ll be watching your content and others for the next six to twelve weeks, missing out on everything from volunteering on the preserved railway I’m apart of in SA to helping out my local model engineers club to my British Railway Modeller meetings, doing the gardening at home, working on my garden line, being unable to play with my model railway upstairs to missing out on a major model train event in June as well. I’m not very happy at all, in fact, I’m devastated. Going to an orthopaedic surgeon this week coming to see if they can straighten it out using a local anesthesia or worse case scenario, they’ll have to operate and install a screw to heal the injury which will sideline me until probably next year. If that does happen, the recovery will go from six to twelve weeks to an unspeakable amount of time into the new year. I’m not looking forward to that. Nice one Charlie. A job well done sir. Just a small point though, it's worth checking to see if there are any electrical cables or pipes behind the proposed drilling points. I'm sure you had done this but it could be useful for others drilling holes in walls. Many thanks for sharing.
Well done Charlie, anything to avoid buying new glasses! But I must say, having a large screen TV for iTrain has really helped me. Just like you, I used our old TV to Mount in my model railway room. While my TV is also a Sony, it’s much older than yours (if yours is not so smart, then mine’s positively brain dead 😂), but it does the job really nicely. While I was watching you guys, algebra came to mind, whereby: If Charlie = C and; Richard = R then; R = 2C Ok, I’ll get my coat……. Have a great weekend !
Sorry sir but I couldn't resist. When I saw you standing on the layout I too was also thinking math where as R/C =2 but by the end of the video the correct formula was R+C = Job well done. As always , thank you for showing us you layout progress.
Well once again another excellent Swift Video I did the same about a year ago but bought a cheap bracket of a well known online site when I was given an old Not so smart tv,as long as it,s HDMI it works now I,m looking into upgrading iTrain to split Screen sothe layout on the Tv and the Loco controls on the Laptop screen. So once again keep up the Great Work.
Charlie, Full knowing you & I are well beyond the age of wee ones tugging at the flat screen here's a quick tip for those who don't share our luxury. Once you have detected the location on your wall where you desire the wall mounts to be a fixed, cut open the wall. Cut a piece of lumber long enough to be snug within the wall studs. Slightly wider than the whole you cut. Glue and screw the board in place. Tight to the backside of the dry wall. You now have a secure backer board that no matter the location of the mounting screws or their length the hardware will have a solid structure to bite into. On the same note, I hope you consider a few triangular wooden gussets, attached to the wall, centered above the flat screen. Then you can re-attach the CHADWICK RAILWAY sign, tilted downward, above the wide screen. Jim in N.Y.
Looking great Charlie, and it will give you a better oversight as to what is going on in TrainController as well as your layout. The TV is also a cheaper solution than a PC monitor of similar a similar size. Enjoy! Best, Jason.
Hi Charlie you are lucky to have a friend like Richard to help you on a task like this one, you could have done it on your own but it would oh so easy to have dropped something at the worst moment. Well done to both of you and good luck from Spain!! PS: Just watched episode 54😂😂 and left a comment!!
Another step forwards Charlie! I also liked the link to the backscenes, where your numbers confused me big time, mind you it made me feel amongst friends as I try to work out levels for my railway room new floor and before the experts come and laugh at my efforts🤬
Nice one Charlie. Love your swift episodes Possibly one on your power surge that didn't really happen. How you traced it and reprogrammed. Stay safe and thanks again Howard
"tidy up, lunch, come back" - Strategy' like that, will win the war Charles! Looks lovely that! Hope my shelves turn out as nice as yours. And hopefully somewhat straight...😅
Great content as always Charlie. Acquired as Kernow (Heljan) PWM shunter today A must for a Western Region Layout of 70's and 80's. Always great to see them in yards of Reading, Swindon Taunton or on a Sunday Perminent Way Train
Great video Charlie. Always a challenge getting a TV to stick to a wall! I gave up on my laptop and went to my local computer shop to make up a computer to order. Better than most ready to purchase models and only contains what I need. Got a twin monitor card included so now have TC across 2 screens! Cheers. Hugh
Hi Charlie, another Great video as usual. Curry’s offer a Price Match Guarantee, so if you are quick you might be able to get the difference of the tv stand refunded.
Great work, Charlie, could I suggest cheap kitchen cabinets rather than shelves? You would get twice the storage there or more, and you could display memorabilia on the doors, and it would look tidier overall. I know it would cost but might be worth it. Regards.
Brilliant! 😃 I know it's your channel, but I did think, when you were drilling, why have a tall friend on hand and still clamber about yourself! A great idea when you have a big (by my standards anyway) train room and maybe standing on the other side of it. Personally, I doubt if that laptop would fit through my loft hatch! Entertaining nevertheless. Cheers
Charlie, Another great video. I have to say, putting a bracket on the wall, and hanging a TV is the most fun you can have - NOT. Great idea to put the old TV to good use. If you want to completely get rid of the steam powered laptop, then I can recommend the Intel NUC computers, they are 4 inch square, and about 2 inches thick, so don't take up much room, and they can run anything, and are relatively cheap. Cheers, and take care, Michael
I have installed a number of TVs (we don't say tele, you know the bastard English from over there) using different brackets. They are very sturdy. Of course, in the West, we build houses using wood structures which make life easier.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yea. I know, it is the same all over Europe. In France they have a new law that requires home owner to upgrade the walls, and windows for energy efficiency if people need to sell or rent their place. I have no ideas how they can do it in an inexpensive way. I am a carpenter by trade, and was a general contractor in California. This law is going to create a major housing shortage in France in the coming years. I'm glade to live in California. A side point to live in America, is the diversity of railroad available for model-railroad, beside time periods. My name actually is Chris.
i tend to connect any cables to the back of them tv's before putting them on the wall -- that way you don't have to move them about on the brackets to put the cables in
Hi Charlie, I would have taken it back to Curry's and told them it fit your TV, then ordered from Amazon or one of the other cheaper places. I'm afraid Curry's are renowned for ripping people off with their prices these days. A good instructional video and the result was well worth the effort, it does help to have a big lad helping you though doesn't it.
Hi Charlie, great video as always thank you. Any chance you could do a video on turntables please, particulary DCC operation, smooth running motors, best value for money? Cheers Jim
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yes, having subscribed and watched all your videos I do realise that. Just thought it may of been an interesting review, but understand. Not to worry. Jim
It’s funny, on the video you announced you were going to do this, I thought a big telly would be ideal on that wall, but the sign looks too good there 😂 Well done mate, cracking stuff as always 👍
I plan on doing something very similar for my n-gauge 4 meter long and 30 cm deep layout, but following proportional compression, I'll be using a 10.5" Surface to run the software.
Hi Charlie, top tip time, If you get your assistant to hold the vacuum cleaner pipe just below the drill bit when drilling, the dust gets taken away completely, no mess to clean up. P.S. best not use the wife's vac though.🤣
Dear Charlie, cool mount. Wouldn’t worry about those snaps too much, once mounted you’re not supposed to touch the screen. Humbly think that anything can be pulled from the wall when excessive kind of force is used. Don’t think the bracket will subside to force put on the screen though. Kinda cool you used your old one from your living room. This not so smart tv now just functions as remote monitor? Makes me wonder why folks still buy so called smart tv’s. Now, I’m wondering where you will place your laptop, and subsequently how long of a HDMI cable you’ll need.
Well done Charlie. I put my one up on Thursday. My layout room has 2" insulation all around so had to remove some of that using the template. Then bolted into the solid block wall. How did you hide the cables ? Tony.
I'm not sure if it's just caused by your lighting for filming these videos Charlie, but that shadow cast by the new screen over your back scene would get on my Bristols.
So, how did you eventually hide the cables to the wall mount? Here in the States the _de rigeure_ answer is to use "smurf tube" (from the fact that LV nonmetailc conduit is either bright blue or orange in color). Typically the 6x12 screws/bolts will rip out well before the wall brackets will fail. (I've been hanging monitors & tvs for close to two decades now.) Finding a non-smart tv is very tough anymore, and the railway room likely does not need an always-on mic and camera in the bezel.
Charlie you must be about the same hight as me judging from the video. You woking with your buddy looks like me and my brother-in-law working together, I'll get the low stuff and you get the high stuff, works out well. Thanks for the video........
Hi Charlie, could you use the tv screen to watch that man who did not know what he was doing? I think he has a double helix, and a fiddle yard underneath, along with a rather impressive viaduct, as part of his model railway.
Hi Charlie, did you use wall plugs to fix the TV to the wall? If you did, then that is not the best way to mount the TV to a wall of this type, as you would of been better using wall anchors. With regards to the output, it might be an idea to extend your desktop so that you technically have a huge screen shared over the monitor and the T screen.
Reminds me of the time when, many moons ago I installed a book shelf on a plasterboard wall. It looked a bit precarious, but stayed in place until one evening my mother in law sat directly below it … I have been happily divorced for quite some time now …
I can endorse the XtraHand recently promoted on Dragons’ Den. It’s a £17 device that fits on the end of your vacuum hose, sticks to wall simply via the suction and at the same time pulls all the drilling dust into the vacuum. It would have saved you all the black hessian rigmarole. Just in case you decide to do some more drilling.
Poof , and now there is a monitor up and working. As you say, " Brilliant", wish it was that easy when I did my family room t.v. . By the way , what did you do with the wires? HDMI , POWER.
Perhaps, someone with a photo of your parkway sign and the measurements might be able to make a version of it for use on the big tv screen when you are not using it for railroad control or when filming a video.
Charlie , interested in this because it's something I was about to do myself. One question, where are the cables to the big screen? They were there just before lunch and then they disappeared - have I missed something? Thanks Alasdair
Hi Charlie . After watching your bunder as you call it ,if you havent done so already, wach Bob Ross he'll teach you how to do clouds in seconds and realistic. How you hide your frustration and anger with a laugh is commendable. Thanks

Hope my shelves turn out as nice as yours. And hopefully somewhat straight...😅
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed our work strategy Iron Horse. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway it's one I've sticky adhered to myself for many a year - all stop for lunch!!😁
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
Great content as always Charlie. Acquired as Kernow (Heljan) PWM shunter today A must for a Western Region Layout of 70's and 80's. Always great to see them in yards of Reading, Swindon Taunton or on a Sunday Perminent Way Train
Certainly a good purchase Eddie. Regards, Charlie
Great video - and shows how all 5 minute jobs take longer! Thanks. ;)
I’m so pleased that you found it. Interesting Gavin.
It was one of the quickest jobs I’ve ever done!
Regards, Charlie
Great video Charlie. Always a challenge getting a TV to stick to a wall! I gave up on my laptop and went to my local computer shop to make up a computer to order. Better than most ready to purchase models and only contains what I need. Got a twin monitor card included so now have TC across 2 screens! Cheers. Hugh
No doubt I’ll follow your example at some stage PS. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, another Great video as usual. Curry’s offer a Price Match Guarantee, so if you are quick you might be able to get the difference of the tv stand refunded.
Thanks Chris, certainly worth a look. Regards Charlie.
The screw in style wall plugs hold weight much better than the old style don't be surprised if one night you hear a big crash as the give way.
I have trust Andy! Regards, Charlie
Great work, Charlie, could I suggest cheap kitchen cabinets rather than shelves? You would get twice the storage there or more, and you could display memorabilia on the doors, and it would look tidier overall. I know it would cost but might be worth it. Regards.
That’s a very interesting suggestion, Alan. Regards, Charlie
I love watching this since I have been to a show (alexandra palace)
It’s a wonderful exhibition HM.
Regards Charlie
Awesome Charlie it looks the business mate.
It does seem a bit of an overkill, but it does achieve a very practical solution for next to no money. Regards, Charlie
Thank you needed this one
You’re welcome 😊 Samuel. Regards Charlie
Cheers
An excellent point Davie. I just get over excited! Regards Charlie
When Richard walked on I tried to adjust my vertical hold 😂
I did a double take too but could not help but notice Charlie was doing a Tom Cruise by standing on a stool…
I can’t imagine what you mean, gentlemen!! Regards, Charlie
I’m please that you enjoyed the video Michael, and thanks for the tip regarding the laptop’s replacement.
Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Those small computers can also be mounted behind the screen, then add a wireless keyboard and mouse.
I have installed a number of TVs (we don't say tele, you know the bastard English from over there) using different brackets. They are very sturdy. Of course, in the West, we build houses using wood structures which make life easier.
An interesting comment Christiane . Here in the UK most of the older houses have solid cavity walls. Regards, Charlie
Nice job!
Thanks Nicholas, regards, Charlie
i tend to connect any cables to the back of them tv's before putting them on the wall -- that way you don't have to move them about on the brackets to put the cables in
I’ve rigged my cables on the shelves with the HDMI going to the left and the power to the right. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie. Way to go! You did very well to hide the cables. I saw one running behind the shelf, but couldn't see the other - where did it go?
One went east, the other west. Regards Charlie
An excellent comment Peter. And hopefully the video will reduce Curry‘s profit margins. Regards, Charlie
Nice one Charlie! I am doing the same thing for my layout albeit using JMRI instead.
A good move, A22, it certainly does improve the feel of the program. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, great video as always thank you. Any chance you could do a video on turntables please, particulary DCC operation, smooth running motors, best value for money?
Cheers Jim
Sorry Jim but I don’t have one.
Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yes, having subscribed and watched all your videos I do realise that. Just thought it may of been an interesting review, but understand. Not to worry. Jim
It’s funny, on the video you announced you were going to do this, I thought a big telly would be ideal on that wall, but the sign looks too good there 😂
Well done mate, cracking stuff as always 👍
Thanks Marc, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Not bad for the price of a bracket and some bolts. Good to re-use something rather than put it in the skip. Looks the business.
Thanks Kevin, although I did try it out to make sure it was compatible before we started. Regards, Charlie
I plan on doing something very similar for my n-gauge 4 meter long and 30 cm deep layout, but following proportional compression, I'll be using a 10.5" Surface to run the software.
Sounds like a good plan. MM. Regards, Charlie
Nice! Will you be adding in one of Richard's big panels on the DCC Concepts test layout with all the blue LEDS? I think that was for their ESP system.
I don’t really think that’s my bag DK. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, top tip time, If you get your assistant to hold the vacuum cleaner pipe just below the drill bit when drilling, the dust gets taken away completely, no mess to clean up. P.S. best not use the wife's vac though.🤣
What he said.
Thanks guys, great advice.
Regards Charlie
Remember to alter laptop power scheme to allow you shut laptop lid and keep OS working
Now there’s something I have never thought of Steve. I imagine it must be buried in settings somewhere. Regards, Charlie
When recording other videos, connect you tv to you computer with a Chadwick logo as some branding
Now there’s an idea I hadn’t thought of Vincent. Thanks buddy, regards, Charlie
I think the keyboard will go on a pull-out shelf. The HDMI cable is 10 m long! Regards, Charlie
Well done Charlie. I put my one up on Thursday. My layout room has 2" insulation all around so had to remove some of that using the template. Then bolted into the solid block wall. How did you hide the cables ? Tony.
Thanks Tony, I’ve put the HDMI cable on the left shelf on the power cable on the right. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie - thanks for another great video - one question - how did you hid the cables? do they run along the shelf?
Exactly right mate. The HDMI cable ran along the left shelf on the power lead to the right. Regards, Charlie
I'm not sure if it's just caused by your lighting for filming these videos Charlie, but that shadow cast by the new screen over your back scene would get on my Bristols.
I know what you mean mate, but for filming Trains in motion, those two cheap LEDs go off. Regards, Charlie
(I've been hanging monitors & tvs for close to two decades now.)
Finding a non-smart tv is very tough anymore, and the railway room likely does not need an always-on mic and camera in the bezel.
I simply ran the HDMI cable on the left shelf and the power cable on the right shelf. Regards, Charlie
Charlie you must be about the same hight as me judging from the video. You woking with your buddy looks like me and my brother-in-law working together, I'll get the low stuff and you get the high stuff, works out well. Thanks for the video........
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video blue 68 Camaro. Short or tall, we all have our uses. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, could you use the tv screen to watch that man who did not know what he was doing? I think he has a double helix, and a fiddle yard underneath, along with a rather impressive viaduct, as part of his model railway.
I can’t imagine who you’re referring to Alan! Regards, Charlie
Click on Start> Control panel> Power options.
Under 'Select a power plan' choose the option 'Balanced'.
Click on Change plan settings.
Thanks Steve, I’m on the case.
Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, did you use wall plugs to fix the TV to the wall? If you did, then that is not the best way to mount the TV to a wall of this type, as you would of been better using wall anchors. With regards to the output, it might be an idea to extend your desktop so that you technically have a huge screen shared over the monitor and the T screen.
Thanks Kevin, I shall have to look into wall anchors. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Ross. Regards Charlie
Reminds me of the time when, many moons ago I installed a book shelf on a plasterboard wall. It looked a bit precarious, but stayed in place until one evening my mother in law sat directly below it … I have been happily divorced for quite some time now …
Now that comment made me smile and laugh out loud, Nigel. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway True story Charlie. 😂🙏
Thanks John, and I certainly missed the episode of Dragons’ Den.
Regards, Charlie
if in doubt have a tall friend !!
Where would we be without them David?Regards, Charlie.
Poof , and now there is a monitor up and working. As you say, " Brilliant", wish it was that easy when I did my family room t.v. .
By the way , what did you do with the wires? HDMI , POWER.
That was easy, Bob. The HDMI cable went on the shelf to the left and the power cable to the shelf on the right. Regards, Charlie
I'd invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse, and then you can hide the laptop under the bench and use the TV as 'screen 1' if that makes sense.
Perfect sense Oliver. Regards Charlie
Perhaps, someone with a photo of your parkway sign and the measurements might be able to make a version of it for use on the big tv screen when you are not using it for railroad control or when filming a video.
Now there is an excellent idea, Paul . Thank you, regards, Charlie
If you want to avoid having an HDMI connection between the PC and the tv, you can connect a Chromecast to you tv and cast your PC screen to it.
Thanks LC, and I do have a ChromeCast too. Regards, Charlie
Charlie , interested in this because it's something I was about to do myself.
One question, where are the cables to the big screen? They were there just before lunch and then they disappeared - have I missed something?
Thanks
Alasdair
Hi Alastair, the HDMI cable went on the left shelf and the power cable on the right. Regards Charlie
A trick when drilling masonry is to hold a vacuum cleaner nosil just below where the drill bit, it will collect 90% of all the dust,
Yes, we were somewhat hasty.
Regards Charlie
Whilst watching this video, all I could hear was the theme to Laural and hardy !!! 😂
More like the “Chuckle Brothers”.
Regards Charlie
Someday the house may fall down around it, but that TV isn't going anywhere! :-)
You’re probably right there, Paul. It does seem rather bombproof.
Regards, Charlie.
now I can't unsee the backdrop not being straight
How do you think I feel! Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie . After watching your bunder as you call it ,if you havent done so already, wach Bob Ross he'll teach you how to do clouds in seconds and realistic.
How you hide your frustration and anger with a laugh is commendable. Thanks
