Hey Justin, great question! The water flow being constant through the run settles all the gold and other heavies like the black sands. If you were to run the water longer, it wouldn't wash out a noticeable amount of other heavies once the sluice has cleaned out what it's going to clean out. The gold is the heaviest material in the box so usually once it settles in, it's not moving. You can however disrupt water flow by not feeding the material at a constant rate and loos gold that way. Long winded, sorry😆😂🙂👍

Course I'm in Arkansas and not sure if gold is found here or not but it'd be fun to see and I think it'd be easy to set up a mini sluice and let natural wash the sediments down. Hmmm?
