Promising young woman is one of the best movies ever and she wrote all the best episodes of killing eve and she was also incredible in the crown. One of the most talented people alive.
Promising Young Woman is by far one of the best films of the 2020s in my opinion. Emerald Fennell's debut was fantastic and I'm absolutely happy that she won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. The fact that it's a revenge movie without a single mention of the word "rape" or any nudity scene is absolutely impressive
The fact that we're getting a Pride and Prejudice cast reunion between Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan in Emerald's second directorial effort, "Saltburn" following her Oscar win makes me so excited for the her next movie as a fan of Pride and Prejudice and Promising Young Woman
Fascinating to hear Emerald speak about writing scripts it’s probably not surprising as I think of her first and foremost as an actress from years of Call The Midwife so to hear her process it seems to make sense. 27:03 had no idea she wrote books. What a great interview again. Look forward to part 2.
As a director, you need to know how to communicate you idea from your head to life. Don't say, "I want you to do this like this", but instead "I need you to do this like this or do this. This has to be like this. It has to smell or feel like blah blah. Look at this thing what I've found or heard" Be confident and clear. Know it. Have a mood board. Have your mood boards ready, detailed, extremely and oppressively detailed. Be over invested. When you are working with brilliant people, you should/can let go as the people you work with bring/suggest better ideas than you. The best thing you can do as a director is see what doesn't work. To be specific, you need/should do the homework. There should be a massive amount about communication during the preproduction element of filmmaking. If your film is a particular type of genre. Show it very quickly and early on.
I would love for them to take a upcoming film maker through a process of shooting a short film. Film making is a action would to see them not talking but actually doing. I been trying to get a action horror web series off the ground for years, building pros, training soldiers, training demons how to walk. I would really like it to get off the seat and get on set. I lost a 30 year marriage cause I gave my life to film making.. would really enjoy there actual process
