I am 22, have 2 younger brothers who can do this as well as mum and dad and I couldn’t, I’ve tryed to do it for ages before and couldn’t witch made me feel realy left out with them. They have tried to teach me nut I never got it.
I watched this after randomly popping up in my feed and tryed doing it. I have been at it for 20ish minutes and when I fianly got it I kid you not I jumped up out of my bed in excitement. I am so unbelievably happy that I have found how to do this. I hope you read this dude because you’ve had a very profound effect on me. And I couldn’t be happy for it. Thank you from all of my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
I love comments like this. It’s funny how such a simple trick can be so satisfying. I’m glad I could be apart of this with you
My hole class has been trying to do it @@FamilyNonsense
I did it

Bro I kid you not, I don't remember being this happy about lerning something in the past 10 years as I am now after doing it alongside the video. Thanks man, you made my day, and possibly my week, or month
Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you’re so happy. My dad taught me years ago and now ive taught my boys (and tons of people on TH-cam). It’s amazing we can make a small instrument with our hands.
@@FamilyNonsenseI was able to learn it within 30 seconds, it made me quite happy tbh since it’s quite a unique whistle it creates. Very useful for call-outs with my mates hahaha

I kid you not, I started jumping in my chair once i got this. I was so happy about something so simple. Thank you so much for making my night!
Bro. Thanks for sharing your joy with me. I love love love comments like these
Dude same haha
Hurt myself in the process but the amount of joy when i figured it out
Same I showed everyone I knew it was so easy😊
Idk what's going on with my phone but for some reason I'm unable to comment unless I hit a reply button so my apologies for intruding here but just like this commenter, I too have gotten results... Bro, I'm 31 and I'm filled with childlike glee rn... It is little but when I was in scouts as a child, as one of the few who never learned how to, I had a sour memory Abt it along with the teasing children do when you're the odd one out... It was small but it made me feel really happy knowing I could do this too and it was all about technique... Along with that, I felt like giving up at other things currently in my life but this small thing made me think I just need to change my approach, so thanks bro... For not just this but making me put other things into perspective even further 😌👌🏾
@@christiophermodeste8666 What a story! Thank you for sharing all this. It’s wild how things can stick with us for so long. I’m glad this small victory can help with your perspective in other areas, too. I’m 37 with a house full of kids (5) and yesterday I watched my 5 month old daughter practice sitting up. Money can’t buy the joy I had there. Hey, God bless you (that’s where the real perspective change happens ☺️).
I’ve never tried it before, and I learned it in 3 minutes. Thanks
i’ve been trying for HOURS. i watched half this video, tried it, and it actually worked. thank u
Glad it helped!
@@FamilyNonsensei cant do it i watched this video 5 times and tried for 30 minutes and I still cant do it im doing the exact same thing as in the video😔
Same 😔
@@FamilyNonsenseI can hand whistle now :D
When I did it, it made a fart sound💀
Wow it's super cool the sensation when you first make it sound! I finally did it in a few minutes with your tutorial...I still am not able to do it consistently, but it happened once and now I know I can do it better, just with more practice!
Yes! You’ll be doing it consistently in no time
I still can't do it. nothing works for me, not tilting my hand, im closing all the spaces and everything. It's so hard
Bummer, is the air from your mouth focused into the bowl your hands are making?
@@FamilyNonsense like what do you mean by focused
@@realraven01 like if your lips are on the knuckles correctly, the air should be a stream going into that small hole
@@FamilyNonsense oh
I did 😂so excited. Try making the exiting whole of the air between the thumbs small 😊that's how I realized it worked 💪 😂
Didn't expect to learn this today. But pleasantly surprised to have stumbled upon this and actually figure it out!
its funny the things we can learn online
I watched a bunch of videos and was having NO luck until I watched yours!!! Thank you - I’m so excited to work on it more now! 🎉
Let’s go! I’m happy this helped!
Tried it for around 30 min and sound are coming and i can maintain it for 2-3 seconds.
Thank you very much!
Nice!!! Keep practicing
I watched 10 videos before this one and this one was the right, FINALLY !
So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing.
Same! 😱 I’m so amazed this actually works!!!
I think its because other videos dont say where to put your lip
@@edenpeaceandlove8122 thanks!
Whenever I show the hand whistle to my classmates they always are shocked and ask me how do I do it and I teach them thanks for this video I spent 9 hours trying to get it down and I finally got it😊
That’s awesome. I teach another method that I think is easier. Now you need to teach your friend
My god I can't believe I was able to learn this within couple mins, you sir are a very good instructor because I have always been a slow learner on everything. Thank you for this tutorial!
Let’s go! Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad I was able to help. There is a link to another version of the hand whistle in the description. You might find that easier ( kind of depends though)
Oh my gosh! Thank you man!!! 20 years of trying and now I can finally do it after 2 minutes of your explanation! You are a super hero!
Let’s go! I’m glad the video helped (and that I’m a super hero)
SAME WOW
@@LUCHTHANS4 you got it too???
yeah been trying a few days only, but couldnt get it from other videos. the change that was immediately successful for me is making a more scrunched up right hand. From the other videos it looked like the fingers had to be nicely next to each other and the space inside should be as large as possible, but at my beginner level the opposite seems to be true @@FamilyNonsense
@@LUCHTHANS4 that’s awesome. I can make tons of sounds with the whistle now and I still scrunch my hands up. Don’t worry about how it looks if you’re getting the sound 😀
So many tutorials but no one told me about that angle of the air input, it makes a huge difference. Thank you mate
IT WORKED!!!
I din't position my hands correctly, like what you said here 1:46
And to my surprise, it absolutely worked!
It's not as good or clean sounding as your's, but I'm gonna keep practicing.
Thanks.
Thank you for such a straightforward tutorial! I can do it now, and I’m so ready to experiment with different pitches!
I’m so happy to hear it worked! I hope the other sounds come quickly
I have been watching tutorials on hand whistling for two weeks now, and this is the one that I was able to succeed with. Your explanation was superb! Thank you!!
Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you got it!!!
I learned this about 50 years ago, probably more. First time I've tried since then. I've managed to make a breathy sound that mayhave had a note in it, so a lot more practice required. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.
Thanks for sharing! My dad taught me when I was a boy, I’ve taught sons, and now I get messages daily from people saying they’ve learn. So cool
I finally managed to get a sound out (once - lol) thanks to your tutorial. Yours is the first one I've seen where the fingers are bunched together, which gave me the "permission" I needed to adjust my hands to where they seem to need to be. (I kinda have short, stubby fingers relative to the rest of my hand, so I think I was having trouble getting the whole chamber sealed off but still rounded without overlapping any of the fingers on the same hand.)
I feel you. I’ve made sounds using the other way, but the fingers scrunched way gets me amazing sounds virtually every time. Thanks for sharing!
@@FamilyNonsense I'm now probably about 60-40 on whether I get a sound, and have a whole houseful of kids who are hand-whistling. (Thankfully, my husband is a music guy, so he's not too terribly annoyed by all of our pitiful practice. lol) Thank you!
@@RachelRamey that’s so cool. I have two sons that can do it as well and a few of my students. Thanks for sharing
When I was about 10 my friends could, I couldn't. Oe day I made a sound. Didn't unlock my hands for SEVERAL MINUTES. Fast forward 20+ years. Got to the point that I could play simple songs such as nursery rhythms etc.. then got distracted w/life and now in my 70's. Can't make a sound. Gotta lean all over. LOL
Yours is the third tutorial video and the first time it worked for me. It was all about hand angle. The mention of the thumbs and working with the angle worked. Thanks so much!
Let’s go! I’m so glad it helped. There is another tutorial (link in the description) that used a different hand position. That one may be even easier. Either way, you got it!
I fondly remember my dad doing this when I was younger. He didn’t teach me how to do it before passing away, so I’m glad to have this new skill to remember him by ❤
🥰
Best instructions. I can actually do it with the tips you invluded in your demonstration. Thanks SO much!
Let’s go! Thanks for the feedback
Been doing this whistle since early 80s in New Zealand in flaxmere ,love it still doing to this day love it .
Wow. Thanks for sharing. My dad taught me all of the cool tricks I do now. I’m happy to keep em alive!
bro thank you so much. The lip placement really helped me. Instantly got good at it
Been trying to figure out how to do this for ages. Followed along with the steps and now I’m consistently doing it. Much thanks to you

Ha ha, me too. I was laughing when I got it right after a few trials❤
me too! i haven’t felt so pleasantly surprised by something since being a kid
Ditto!!! Me too. Love It.
@@kirrei love hearing it
Whoa! I was shifting around with the hand/lip configuration from whooshes/squeaks then bam a clearly pitched tone sustained, I felt the reverberations inside my palms, what a strange and wonderful feeling! I think the most helpful tips and some of my notes are the spherical interior, with palms arched but not focally tense, lower lip under the knuckles, also keep upper and lower lip relaxed, thumb bones parallel like vocal cords and perpendicular to airflow. You can clasp your hands in other airtight spherical ways, I tried this at night so I looked through the thumbs and made sure no light shone through. once you set up the “instrument”, you can then tinker with the angle and strength of airflow, it needs to be pretty consistent, and stronger than I had imagined. Hope this helps!
It took me a really long time to figure it out, but I finally figured it out which is really cool. What finally allowed me to make a sound was making the hole where the air comes out much smaller than I thought it needed to be. Almost to the point that my knuckles on my thumbs were touching each other.
thank you so much for that tip with the bottom lip, instantly worked for me
Thank you so much, I've been trying this for 2 days and it doesn't work and now I'm sitting here watching your tutorial AND IT WORKS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I learned it from my school friend about 5 years ago and I still can whistle like this ☺️🫶🏻
Took me a good bit of practice, started with this technique and then once I was able to do it I went back and could do the other technique as well! Thank you, never knew this was something I wanted to know how to do lol

Also couldn't manage through other tutorials, but your tutorial did the trick! I surprised myself when I first heard the sound and it was even before the video was over!

I got a little sound! This was my 3rd video and I liked the bunching up of the fingers. It makes it easier for me to seal the gaps. I’ll keep practicing. It’s such a fun thing to do in the woods. Beautiful and haunting sounds to be made! Thanks so much
I’m glad this helped. I have another version (you can find it in the description) but I like this one the best. Keep going!
Great instructions. Arrrr! I got one little toot finally but now I'm about to pass out! 🤣I'll keep practicing.
Thanks! Once you get it, you'll never forget!
Hard time following it,I called in a pack of birds that burnt down my house
I did it, the FIRST attempt! Actually good instructuons, especially the bottom lip part, I picked that up really easily.
Let’s good. Nice work
Oh my gosh I’ve been trying for a couple days now and was wondering what I was doing wrong, but I finally got it!!!! Thank you so much this video is amazing 🎉❤❤❤
Let’s gooooo! Thanks for sharing🎉
I got everything all down the whistle just can’t do the different toons
That’s awesome! Keep practicing, the extra sounds just take a little time. Making the smaller bowl for the higher pitch sound is probably the hardest. For the extra note, you can move one finger or you can move all four fingers on the back hand (check out this video to see that method: th-cam.com/users/shorts2ltmeNEiRf4?feature=share

I've been trying this so many times without any success. Your explanation about the hanging lip was the solution 😊

So happy to hear that! Keep it up and then try some of the other fun sounds 🤩

This is the best video I’ve seen, I wasn’t bunching my fingers properly and my hole was too big, thanks for the help bro. I’m now working on it so I can eventually introduce the hand movements for that shaky sound.
Congrats! It takes some practice to get really comfortable with it, but you’ll be there in no time.

That’s how I was when I was learning to whistle with four fingers, spit was flying everywhere lol
I have everything down but the whistle it’s just not coming out idk what I am doing wrong.
Oh no. If your hands are air tight (minus the whole between the knuckles on your thumbs) make sure your lips are also secure around the thumb knuckles. If all that is correct, slowly adjust the tilt. You can do it, don’t give up!
@@FamilyNonsenseno sound comes out. I feel like you’re leaving something out.
@@Dissociatedaf possibly, but I get people messaging all the time saying it worked for them.
You might think about how you are focusing the air and making sure the air is actually leaving the bowl or whistle you’ve created with your hands at the bottle of the hole the air goes in to.
