My favorite thing about this monster is the impetus for it's creation; The blood spirits were being ornery shits about how they didn't get to put down the burrocks, so Star adder designed a mech that was the antiethesis of their design philosophies (cost effective and reliable) by making a monster loaded with heavy fire power that could outfight damn near anything in it's weight class and packing the most cutting edge tech. It couldn't have been more clear what the point of this thing was if it had a pair of middle fingers pointing at the nearest Blood spirit at all times.
The Blood Spirit interference in the Burrock Trial is one of the most absurdly, poorly written parts of Clan History. At no point in the History is Clan Blood Spirit presented as so demented that they abandoned the Trial System. By not declaring a Trial of Refusal, and simply attacking, they opened themselves to an immediate call for a Trial of Annihilation. There would not have been a delay for the Invasion. At worst, the remaining Clans would have agreed to a multi-Clan Trial, if they wished to conserve forces. No Clan would have continued to have relations with the Blood Spirits. Can’t say much about it since my only exposure to the mech was via Mechcommander 2. But I can certainly say from reading its technical stats, its another balls to the wall, Canopian Battle Powder snorting murder machine roughly in the same category as the Mad Cat Mk2.
Despite having one of the most memorable deaths I've ever had of a mech, it is a clan mech I love. Its a duelist like the executioner, but rather than a brawler its a fenser for the early part of a fight then goes for the kill with its heavy lasers and srms. It has a great style of play and is fun for a gauss boat.
And the T variant meanwhile is just a gigantic unfair cheating bastard against all these hot-running Clanner energy boats. All those neat, tidy game plans of riding the heat curve to maximum efficiency, and then this thing comes in with two plasma rifles, dunks them into the trashbin and sets the bin on fire.

(Cool! I finally get a chance to come back to this series and it’s on a clan mech with my favorite quirk. Rugged. Anyway, thank you so much for all the effort you put into this video.)
18:08 Slight correction the BAS-A mounts the heavy large lasers in its arms not its side torsos. This can be problematic since it means all the mech's weapons are located in the arms which means with enough firepower, enthusiasm and dumb luck the mech can be disarmed both figuratively and literally at once.
My first exposure to the Blood Asp was the old Ral Partha mini with the tiny legs and HUGE torso. It was colossally silly. Admittedly I liked it more from Mechassault 2, but that game is hardly if at all Battletech. The 3rd IWM sculpt personally is my favorite in the E configuration. I remember the Blood Asp from Mechcommander 2 and MechAssault 2. It was the first time I ever heard of Clan Heavy Lasers, and Clan Star Adder. To me its memorable for being unremarkable otherwise. Being a 90ton assault mech its above average in speed and relatively lightly armed. Its similar to the classic Warhawk 85on assault mech. Its large engine limits its equipment resulting it in having underwhelming firepower and lacking in the range clan technology provides. The Prime Blood Asp has only 2 Gauss Rifles for long range combat, with the rest of its weapons are for close range, and it cannot handle the heat at short range. Now that I think about it thats kind of like the Atlas. To me the ideal assault mech is something closer to the Dire Wolf. The Dire Wolf has a large number of weapons for various ranges and enemies
Red, blood asp has saved my line a few times in battle. When I had to attack a research lab area. It help my assault star to destroy the pro type mechs I had to fight. It was clan tech vs some powerful weapons and a 1,000 ton mech
@@BigRed40TECH Also the most patient, and pragmatic. You've got to appreciate a Clan whose attitude to Operation Revival was 'No, let the others go first, let's see what happens...'
Only really used it in Mech Assault 2. It is a big, nasty looking, heavily gunned beast. That said I haven't used it enough to have a real attachment to it.
While I play Mechwarrior and not much of Tabletop Battletech this is still my "go to" Assault Mech. I have her fitted with 2x ATM12's in each shoulder, and an ATM6 in the CT. This comes with 4 tons of ammo! The arms have 3x Clan ER-MPL's per arm, the rest is all armor, cooling, and systens. I can hit you like a LRM30 at range while close in on you to my 360m Optimal and then unleash all of HELL upon you as the ATM's in optimal hit for 90 points of damage plus the 6X ER-MPL's ripping another 24 points off as you alternate fire between the ATM's, L-ARM and R-ARM to maintain heat. Alterntively you can rotate ATM to dual arm lasers for about 6 cycles before heat becomes an issue. I have shredded Anniahalators in SECONDS with this monstrosity and as such I have named this build the "Blood God".
Surprises me that its daddy was a Kingfisher, the legs are backswept and it doesn't have the humanoid profile of the Fisher. In any case this is one hot rig. Love it when a Clan thinks, 'All y'all should have nice things too" and makes a technical wonder available for export.
Ladies and gentlemen, clanners, spheroids, and mercs of all ages. Allow me to introduce a variant that I used as a mech commander 2 special. The Blood Asp LT. The LT is a horrifying zealous build that only consists of... 2 Long Tom's, one in each shoulder. That's it, no backup weapons, nothing! Now it is a cheese build and alone would be pieced up by any mech 10t each way or a skilled pilot. However, if you take 4 of them and use them in hit and run tactics, it is INSANELY effective, especially in battletech tabletop rules! A good example is my 4 Blood Asps vs. My dad's 12 anubis. In 2 hits 3 anubis would fall. They were pretty fast though, and would get too close for the LT's min range. I had to sacrifice a Blood Asp for them to stop getting close and decimate the rest of the lances. A very fun skirmish! 😊
I remember on MechAssault 2 Lone Wolf it's either the standard Blood Asp or the alternate variant The Star Adder had a Twin Plasma PPC's for the shoulder mounted weapons
Blood Asp always looked to me like a super sized Uziel. As for it in Mechcommander 2. I rarely used it because by the time the campaign gave me access to it, I was already to established in my strategy that I didnt bother shaking it up to use it.
This is one of those clan omnis that look great on paper, but are often inexplicably hampered by the lack of ammunition for it's massive guns. The clanners should have known better by 3060 than to have 24 tons of explosive dead weight after firing eight rounds.
@@ghoulbuster1 Yeah. Good for a duel, but troublesome when there are more opponents. Even with Zellbringen you sometimes have to fight more than one 'Mech and then it starts to be felt. There is an easy fix for this thugh by degrading the SRM launcher and getting one ton of ammo and and some extra bang for the gauss rifles. Not having to carefully mother your shots for your principal long range armament also helps.
Problem is that it was made by a Homeworld clan, late in the Wars of Reaving, so not adhering VERY strictly to Zellbrigen generally meant that you died next. Can't be showing any signs of that Spheroid taint.
Oh my Blake... I want a Hell's Horses Star with two Prime Variants and two B variants... the combo would be so deadly, and they compliment each other so well!
My first instinct with the prime is to rip out the SRM launcher and ammo, and replace it with cooling/Gauss ammo. Edit: Kerensky was already weeping from Tukayyid.
Mine is swapping the gauss for a pair of LBX-10s so I can say fuck you from 600m+ or up close with untelenting slug or scatter rounds and invest in more armor and a chin mounted PPC

I've been playing since 1988, and 90 tons never got real representation until this design was released. 90 tons is such an excellent weight class. It's my favorite weight to customize and create, specifically because there was no Clan 90 tonner detailed in the original 3050 release...and also because the Cyclops is hot garbage on the tabletop. The Blood Asp doesn't quite match up with some of the monsters I have created but it is a heavy hitter and fun to deploy. Loved the video, Red. Can't wait for the Executioner.

First time i saw the Blood Asp I knew this was my favorite mech., Followed by the Uziel
One Hell of a Vid....I hope we get this mech
It never rains but it pours
It rains Iron, when the Blood Asp is around.
My second favorite clan mech. Madcat, Blood Asp, Thor
The 'mech that sold me on Clan Star Adder. One of the best Clan Assault Omnis and a fearsome opponent in any configuration.
Star Adder was always best, because it was the biggest Snek all along.
Snow Raven admits inner sphere plasma is the best.
Great video! It's a fun and educational video to a top tier omnimech. Even if you only did slap it together to hype the Kickstarter. 😜
People voted with their wallets for me to do it. I was surprised I was able to piece this together at this quality before the KS.
@@BigRed40TECH Hey, I was impressed by the quality delivered in less than a day. It's why I'm subbed here, along with many others.
@@observationsfromthebunker9639 I put 20 hours into making this video XD
My all time favourite mech
It's a gorgeous looking mech. It's the snakecat.
I remember on MechAssault 2 Lone Wolf it's either the standard Blood Asp or the alternate variant The Star Adder had a Twin Plasma PPC's for the shoulder mounted weapons
Both had plasma PPC. The difference is Star adder has autocannons and flamer. Blood asp has 4x MG and 2x LRM with the PPCs
Blood Asp always looked to me like a super sized Uziel. As for it in Mechcommander 2. I rarely used it because by the time the campaign gave me access to it, I was already to established in my strategy that I didnt bother shaking it up to use it.
Clan Star Adder: insulting an enemy by naming a Mech after them.
Been waiting since April & now they will start shipping in 7-10 days!
This is one of those clan omnis that look great on paper, but are often inexplicably hampered by the lack of ammunition for it's massive guns. The clanners should have known better by 3060 than to have 24 tons of explosive dead weight after firing eight rounds.
after 8 rounds it's better to turn off the gauss as you don't want to risk a hit to them
@@certanmike Except you can't power them down RAW.
The idea is to kill the guy with that ammo before you blow up.
Colonel Bernard watching in horror as my 2 blood asps a cyclops and easily 4 urbies haul ass to head-clip his jumpy atlas
Oh my Blake... I want a Hell's Horses Star with two Prime Variants and two B variants... the combo would be so deadly, and they compliment each other so well!
Instead of one HAG-40, why not install _two_ HAG-40s? 😎
I was waiting for this mech for so long! I was hoping for some MW5 gameplay footage though. Still another top tier video!
No MW5 gameplay for this one :(
My favorite part of the MechAssault games? Blood Asp Alpha Strike downs a Catapult or even better, the Ragnarok.
Like and comment before I even watch the video. Cause its the Mech that got me into Battletech thanks to Mechcommander 2
My first instinct with the prime is to rip out the SRM launcher and ammo, and replace it with cooling/Gauss ammo.
Edit: Kerensky was already weeping from Tukayyid.
For the Prime I'd reduce the number of Medium Lasers by two, use the savings for more Gauss Ammo and snipe.
Mine is swapping the gauss for a pair of LBX-10s so I can say fuck you from 600m+ or up close with untelenting slug or scatter rounds and invest in more armor and a chin mounted PPC
The blood asp A is my favorite clan assault mech.
We didn't get 8 million in the Kickstarter, but I believe they said it'll be available in the pledge manager for purchase
They did! :D
I miss this thing, in mechassault it was a monster in online.
Seeing two of them was enough for atlus to rethink his plan 😅
You are mistaken in the beginning of your video about the Urbanmech good sir! It indeed does have value..., as the franchise's meme machine and source of schadenfreude for all other mechs! A most important job! In all seriousness, great video! The Blood asp is one of my favorite mechs. Let's reach that KS stretch goal!
It most definitely does not have value lmao
It looks like it has googly eyes and is blowing a raspberry.
Looks like something I’d wear on SolarisVII.
I had fun with this guy in Mechcommander 2, I believe.
Ah the good old config G asp or as I call them Party Poppers! Ya pull the strength to set it off and suddenly the room is full of confetti! Sure some of it may be elemental parts....but mechfetti!
Well, we didn't quite make it, but apparently there will be an option to add it through thr backer kit
Made my night :D
I've been playing since 1988, and 90 tons never got real representation until this design was released. 90 tons is such an excellent weight class. It's my favorite weight to customize and create, specifically because there was no Clan 90 tonner detailed in the original 3050 release...and also because the Cyclops is hot garbage on the tabletop. The Blood Asp doesn't quite match up with some of the monsters I have created but it is a heavy hitter and fun to deploy. Loved the video, Red. Can't wait for the Executioner.
Custom mechs will over perform. I don't take them into consideration.
Looking like a Guntank but without the Tank treads lol
So basically, I want a Blood Asp now. Thanks, Red. Thanks.
Blood Asp the Dark Ages and Ilclan era's AR15, everyone got at least one
Snow Raven's will make sure everyone gets one, for a fair price!
G Configuration.
Why's it called that?
Because... [Damage panel lights up] GEE-zus!
[Mech topples, limbs blown off]
