    The old Homelite sounds great. Like that sound. For sure I'd want a trough and an elevator to pick up those cut-offs so another bend-down isn't necessary. Good fabrication job. Thanks for posting.

    Hi Gary - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A neat arrangement, in my view it's better able to cope with larger logs than the designs that use the top of the bar to cut and it's also safer. A simple idea to prevent a lightly tighened bolt from vibrating loose is to weld a piece of rebar to the side of the bolt head and nut so gravity prevents them from rewinding. I tried that in a comparable situation and it has worked flawlessly for years, with the added benefit that tools are not required.

    Yep, thats pretty slick! Though I'm more impressed with an old Homelite that starts with one pull and then keeps running.

I would really like to see you make a home two way splitter. Great instruction and description too. Keep up the great work form Fayetteville Ga.

    I consider myself as a pretty good judge of what works good for cutting up firewood, of coarse when you spend a ton of $$$$, on a firewood processor, that equipment will work good, but for dollar for dollar, IMO, I think you have the best way that I've seen a chainsaw used for stand on your feet firewood cutting, thanks for sharing........

    Nice setup. Bringing wood in to the log-yard in the largest sizes you are able to handle always has mad sense to me. I make extensive use of my front-end loader for both wood gathering and handling off-the-splitter, finished cordwood.
    Old fat guys don't like to bend over too much!

  • @iamthatguy1169
    @iamthatguy1169 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Nice Job! I just want to add for those like me who would find it difficult to bend an angle iron for spacing around the front of the cutting bar, you can use a few washers for spacing.

    • @NearlyNativeNursery
      @NearlyNativeNursery 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think washer as spacers but sure to tighten them well. try a small section of 1'" metal pipe as that may work too.

    • @ArcaneTinker
      @ArcaneTinker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or you could cut the angle iron, lap the two and weld them to get your offset. Skinning cats and all...

    Yes. This is great... I may well set up something like this myself, and in Gary's capable hands he will probably do fine, but for some people it would be better to keep both hands on the saw...

  • @northerndreamer7738

    A brilliant simple and effective solution. Exactly what I need. The challenge is finding the bolt and nut with set screw. It allows you to remove the chain saw to refill gas and oil. I have looked everywhere but cannot find it. Did you machine the bolt and nut or did you buy it? If you bought it, I would love to know where. Thank you for sharing.

    • @rodneysweetnam8653
      @rodneysweetnam8653 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Northern Dreamer - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. No problem, just follow my suggestion posted for Gary. Alternatively, drill say a 3mm hole at the tip of the bolt, screw in your nut then put a washer on and retain it with an R clip through the 3mm hole. Easy peasy!

      It can be made even easier. I have a smallish wagon I pull behind my 4 wheeler. If you park it at the end where the first of the logs were cut, they will fall into the wagon. Less bending over to pick up that way. Call me lazy :-)

    You might be able to market this as a way to decrease vibration exposure for the user? It would enable the saw to have a much more loosely attached/spring insulated handle than usual. I'm sure automation already exists though, still cool!

  • @atticus2581

    this is interesting as a chop saw, but a far faster way we use on our farm is this ; mount t iron posts in the ground in a cutting area,
    o o o o o o
    o o o o o o
    stack poles length wise in the small channel, high as you wish. the channel shouldnt be deeper that your chainsaw bar. space posts approx 16 inches appart, take your saw and work your way from one end and slice it up. we keep down to 3 inch logs, and ived processed up to 60 at once using this rack. when your using a 72 cc, its easy as fuck. and, its temporary. you can take the metal posts out whenever you like. just make sure that they are a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the overall length into the ground.

    • @mmg9675
      @mmg9675 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is good too but harder to collect cut logs. I would tend to use wooden posts as I don't cut straight.
