I prefer pbr between the two, unless on a real hot day, then highlife due to the watered down factor, but pbr has a bit more crisp bite beer taste to me
Once again, both are excellent beers within the style. You can't go wrong with either. I think I would have to give PBR a slight edge, however, I have never done a blind taste test with these two, so it's hard to say for sure. Another great video, Ron. Cheers, and keep up the great work!
Both beers will always have a place in my heart. i drank both beers through my teenage years. If I had to choose it's High Life in the 40 oz glass bottles. Cheeers!!!
Another great review Ronald. Thanks. I tried both of these along with you. Prior to this, I would have said PBR had the clear edge over Miller. But side-by-side, I was surprised at how similar they were. Both great examples of classic American lager, easy drinking, refreshing, affordable, and rightly recognized as great beer for the working man. The PBR seemed to have a little more complexity in flavor, in careful examination, but all-and-all, both great classic American lagers at a great price. Either one is a winner anytime.
Pabst Blue Ribbon Won the 2016 Great American Beer Festival GOLD METAL WINNER! I feel that Pabst Blue Ribbon has a slightly creamer taste & slightly more head retention. Miller High Life has slightly more carbonation & slightly more lacing. Miller High Life has a little bit more Hop Flavor then Pabst. The Clear Bottle doesn't matter they use Asboric Acid ie vitamin C to prevent. Any light degreation. I love both but would choose Miller High Life over Pabst, I agree with you it's close.NOTE I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 24 PACK OF HAMM'S 12 OZ CANS $6.99 ON SALE IN CAPE CHARLES VA. AWESOME PRICE IN THAT CASE I CHOOSE HAMM'S A slightly faint hint of banana in the taste & Aroma. You get Grape & Apple with a faint hint of banana I would gather from the yeast medium body medium carbonated. Nice. Cheers 🍺
I'm a Miller Lite man when it comes to American adjunct lagers. But I've got a spot with a rare Budweiser tap near where I work and it's completely changed my opinion on the King.
I had a huge Matchbook collection when I was a young man, I ended up foolishly getting rid of them, Good Beer Verses Video Review Jay, I like them both, Have a Good Friday Buddy
Miller High Life I can get at our Kroger store for $14.99 a 30 pack and PBR 24 packs run about $13.99. Both great summer BBQ beers to have on hand when friends stop by!
I feel for you Jay! They are tough to tell. Both are well made, same quality, and meant to do the same job. It's all a branding thing more than what is in the bottle. I would think that I could tell the difference, but I won't lie, I probably couldn't! Don't think on it too much BK! You're in good company! I sure enjoy seeing that old Falstaff can in the background! Great connection between Omaha and New Orleans!
Both of those are nostalgia beers for me. The first beer that I ever bought was a six pack of Miller High Life while I was underage and in high school. I drank Pabst Blue Ribbon in the base bowling alley while I was in the Navy. I still enjoy both of those beers. I like your Falstaff glass. The last time I can remember having a Falstaff was in Pensacola in 1980.
Hey man. I love your vid's. On an unrelated subject, have you tried West Cork Irish whiskey? Up here in New England it's about 20 bucks a bottle. Really good👍
+Ronald Theriot if u like Irish whiskey, u can't beat it for the money. I just recently found out about it, and am enjoying my second bottle. If you want to try it , but can't get ahold of it , let me know. I'll send you a bottle👍
no problem for either of these for me but i do prefer PBR. Hadn't had one in a while but enjoyed today with a california style burrito for lunch, PBR is made with Yugoslavian hops
hi Jay.... i read it online close to a decade ago as well as the fact they used corn syrup, so one cool thing and one less so i learned at the same time back at that time. This was before i knew that pretty much all adjunct lagers (save Budweiser) use corn syrup. Back to the Yugoslavian hops thing .... i just quickly googled with a couple relevant search words and this came up - and others: Pabst Blue Ribbon is a premium lager brew crafted with a hefty infusion of 6-row barley in its ingredient package, a carefully balanced carbohydrate profile from corn syrup, and a unique combination of Pacific domestic hops blended with an imported Yugoslavian variety. Fermented with a pure culture of yeast and aged at high gravity, PBR is cellared and finished to the smooth, robust likeness of a fine Pilsner.
I was grabbing a 6 pk of pbr and another customer there said his son is a head brewer at one of the locations.and he claimed that pbr and Miller high life are the same beer. 😮
I used to drink Falstaff at Tiger Tom's Pub in Omaha. Back then, it was on tap, and it was made in Omaha. One young lady jokingly referred to it as Fall Flat.
Nice video. I appreciate your videos because not everyone is a beer snob with deep pockets. Thumbs up to honest reviews without regard to the label on the bottle or can. Just did my own taste test between PBR and Miller High Life. It's a very close call, but I'm leaning towards Miller High Life...better value for the taste.
Same thing happened to me a while back. A friend and I were doing a blind test of several adjunct lagers. And I swore up and down I knew which was which (high Life and pbr) but ended up being wrong. 🤷♀️
I've done blind taste tests of Bud, Miller, Pabst, Coors, etc. And sometimes they just taste SO similar, I can't even do a review. Now, IPAs, stouts, other ales - big differences!
Pbr is sweeter to me. I haven't had it in awhile though. High life is one of my go to beers based on quality and price. Both are really enjoyable. Great review!
I need to try a PBR, it's been years since I've drank it. My favorites to drink lately though have been Coors Banquet, Miller High Life and Fosters. Cheers. 🍻
Hey Jay another great job. I usually have both in my fridge and just cracked a 32 oz can of high life as a matter of fact. Just up the street at my friend's bar they are both a dollar 16 oz drafts all day everyday!! Hope you're having a great summer buddy
I've drank high life since I was 15 (stealing from my dad 😂). I'm 45 so for 30 years. ..once in a while I get a case that isn't out of date but tastes off. Not sure why but sometimes it's more bitter or skunky? Maybe you got an off one
Well, I can't say that I have run across off-tasting or off-feeling Miller High Life, but I suppose some people, like yourself, have. I just find that it has an somewhat unusual steamed vegetable flavor, but that's all the time, with it, Chris Wilson. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
I drank papst, gunther, when I was 5,6,7,8 running down the steps to get my dad a beer and running back up pounding it then giving it to him, moderation impossible
Nothing like a good slice of humble pie!!!! I love both these ALs, some of the finest around with great history and intertwined whether the brewers like it or not. To me High Life always has that distinct flavor, I do not taste it as cooked vegetables as much as straight up corn....High Life is the "corniest" AL around which is what gives it that distinct flavor. I would take HL in bottle over PBR, but PBR in can over HL....yeah makes no sense!
They are definitely distinct with the veggie flavor in High Life. Maybe it was a bit what you ate beforehand that made them seem so similar. I think we need a redux of this video for science purposes.
I prefer pbr between the two, unless on a real hot day, then highlife due to the watered down factor, but pbr has a bit more crisp bite beer taste to me
I guess I can't say, since I couldn't even tell 'em apart. Thanks for watching, Toad Mcgillhickey. I appreciate it!
I think Miller Highlife is still the best beer in world history bar none.
In world history? Wow! You really love it! Thanks for watching, Richard Wells. I appreciate it!
Favorite cheap ass beer. Scree PBR.
Once again, both are excellent beers within the style. You can't go wrong with either. I think I would have to give PBR a slight edge, however, I have never done a blind taste test with these two, so it's hard to say for sure. Another great video, Ron. Cheers, and keep up the great work!
These blind taste tests can "open your eyes", John. Thanks, and I'm glad you liked it!
Super similar beers imo but I lean towards pbr. I find the taste more consistent whereas with high life some sips taste a bit off.
Yes, High Life, with that odd, cooked vegetable thing. Thanks for watching, Mike Zeigler. I appreciate it!
Both beers will always have a place in my heart. i drank both beers through my teenage years.
If I had to choose it's High Life in the 40 oz glass bottles. Cheeers!!!
I bought a 12-pack of Miller High Life on Sunday, in fact. Bottles. Cheers back to you!
Hey Ron,
First time commenting. Thanks for being awesome and keep the videos coming.
You're welcome, Chris Hannold, and thank you for your support!
Thanks for sharing your time!
You're welcome, and thanks for watching, Mike Crawford. I appreciate it!
Great review Ronald. Looking forward to the next challenge.
Thanks a lot, Dave. Next one, coming soon!

Thanks, John, and I appreciate your consistently good and interesting comments.

Very interesting, Billy, and that is an incredible price!
Hi Ron, both are good beers and value. What is Smoke (carbonation?) and why do you like it or look for it ?
Hi, Claude. Well, "smoke" is just the water vapor that comes out of the bottle or can. I just like the look of it.
I'm a Miller Lite man when it comes to American adjunct lagers. But I've got a spot with a rare Budweiser tap near where I work and it's completely changed my opinion on the King.
How about Miller High Life Light?
@@ronaldtheriot is that a thing? I feel I have to do an on video comparison if so
@@thebeerdedone7568 It's a thing, in Louisiana, since it's very popular. But, you'll never see a draft version.
Could you discuss beer inconsistency in one of your videos ?
I could, but I'm not really sure what I'd say about it.
I'm Canada pabst blue ribbon is 4.9%. I wonder why that is and how it effects the flavour compared too American PBR.
It's common, for lots of these brands, and I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for watching, Haris ansari. I appreciate it!
i noticed clint eastwood likes to drink PBR when i saw the movie gran torino (2008)
Yep- that's right.
I had a huge Matchbook collection when I was a young man, I ended up foolishly getting rid of them, Good Beer Verses Video Review Jay, I like them both, Have a Good Friday Buddy
Oh! What a mistake! Have a great weekend, Jerry!
Ronald Theriot yes it was , Thanks , it's a decent weekend so far : )

Thanks, Ryan. Yeah, I was shamed, after this video.
Love your reviews Ron. Keep them coming:)
I intend to, and thanks, The Malted Man Cave. I appreciate you watching!
The smell alone you should be able to distinguish the beers apart lol....love my high life! Great review as always
I know, but I couldn't do it, Joshua.
Ronald Theriot Exactly, I would be able to distinguish them in s heartbeat but hey tastebuds and scent diminish with age
Both of those are nostalgia beers for me. The first beer that I ever bought was a six pack of Miller High Life while I was underage and in high school. Same, here, and Miller High Life was the first beer I ever bought. The last time I drank Falstaff was in 1996.
Watching your videos lately has got me craving some High Life. Need to scratch that itch soon.
Yes, and I bet you'll be pleased that you did!
Hey man. I love your vid's. On an unrelated subject, have you tried West Cork Irish whiskey? Up here in New England it's about 20 bucks a bottle. Really good👍
No, I've never heard of that one, brandon c. I'm glad you like my videos! Thanks!

where can you get Falstaff?
Sadly, I can not get it, as it was discontinued in 2005. Thanks for watching, john fleming. I appreciate it!
epic burp 10:39
Ha-ha. Thanks for watching, Matt Black. I appreciate it!
no problem for either of these for me but i do prefer PBR. Hadn't had one in a while but enjoyed today with a california style burrito for lunch, PBR is made with Yugoslavian hops

Even though it's more expensive, I'd go with PBR cause I personally prefer it's sweetness to MHL's cooked vegetable taste
Yes, I can understand that, musicman, but since they're so close, I will probably still go with the cheaper one.
Love them both. Keep both in my fridge.
I miss the Pabst Ice and Pabst Genuine Draft. Thanks for watching, tigermbw. I appreciate it!
Loving these taste challenges Jay, keep them coming. Maybe a double down of Shiner Bock also 😀
Ah, that's a good idea- a Shiner Bock "double down". Thanks, Jason, and I'm glad you like the taste challenges.
Do you have any Superman comics?
Yes, many, many of them, Ruben Herrera. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
I was grabbing a 6 pk of pbr and another customer there said his son is a head brewer at one of the locations.and he claimed that pbr and Miller high life are the same beer. 😮
I definitely do NOT believe that they are the same. Thanks for watching, Workman. I appreciate it!
Great video. I think you should do Red Dog vs. Old Milwaukee
Thanks, but we can no longer get Red Dog, in Louisiana.
Ronald Theriot maybe old millwaukee vs. Strohs then
I used to drink Falstaff at Tiger Tom's Pub in Omaha. Back then, it was on tap, and it was made in Omaha. One young lady jokingly referred to it as Fall Flat.
I remember that Falstaff was a dying brand, when I was a child. What I mean is, that when I was 9 year old (1977), it seemed to be a relic.
let'er rip 10:38
Right!
Highlife strikes me as a malt like mickeys or old english just classier. Is that accurate
Yes, I suppose that's right. Thanks for watching, Ray Rodriguez. I appreciate it!
Thanks a lot, Greg Venbrux. I appreciate you watching! No, I never did care for that beer snob approach.
Same thing happened to me a while back. A friend and I were doing a blind test of several adjunct lagers. And I swore up and down I knew which was which (high Life and pbr) but ended up being wrong. 🤷♀️
Right. Until you do the test, you really just don't know. Thanks for watching, Dalton Neas. I appreciate it!
Here in Australia it's $21 a 6 pack and $65 for a case of 24.
That is outrageously high! Thanks for watching, kaneos official. I appreciate it!
I mean geez you have to have both. I will be drinking a million more of both of these before I die
I'm glad you enjoy them, and thanks for watching, Rion Shellooe. I appreciate it!
I've done blind taste tests of Bud, Miller, Pabst, Coors, etc. And sometimes they just taste SO similar, I can't even do a review. Now, IPAs, stouts, other ales - big differences!
I think there is a lot of truth, in that. Thanks for watching, JPVanderbuilt. I appreciate it!
yep, ill do up to a 6 of Sammy light then a sierra Nevada for a night cap''no hangover''when I did drink
Pbr is sweeter to me. I haven't had it in awhile though. High life is one of my go to beers based on quality and price. Both are really enjoyable. Great review!
Thanks, and I appreciate your comment.
Good review as always! It takes a lot of commitment to answer every comment. I don't know how you do it lol
It does take some time, and it irritates me to no end, with video reviewers who ignore comments. Why are they making videos?
I need to try a PBR, it's been years since I've drank it. My favorites to drink lately though have been Coors Banquet, Miller High Life and Fosters. Cheers. 🍻
Have you ever tried Foster's Premium Ale (green label)? Cheers, back to you!
@@ronaldtheriot I have but I don't see them as much. Wish we had it more but both are great beers.
Hey Jay another great job. I usually have both in my fridge and just cracked a 32 oz can of high life as a matter of fact. Just up the street at my friend's bar they are both a dollar 16 oz drafts all day everyday!! Hope you're having a great summer buddy
That's a good deal, at that bar, Bart! It's a pretty good Summer, I have to admit.
Even though it didn't work out
the way you thought
Thanks for posting your video anyway it was entertaining as usual
I'm glad you liked it, Chris S. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
SEVEN SEVENTY-NINE? They average the same here in Virginia- $9.99. When Wegman's opens there will be $7.49 Genesee!
It is now $9.79, for a 12-pack of bottles, here.
I've drank high life since I was 15 (stealing from my dad 😂). I'm 45 so for 30 years. ..once in a while I get a case that isn't out of date but tastes off. Not sure why but sometimes it's more bitter or skunky? Maybe you got an off one

I just drank a 3 month expired 40 oz high life tonight. I kept pushing it off to the back of the fridge but to my suprise it tasted perfectly fine.
I think you need something to neutralize your pallet in between beers.
Yes, that is probably a good idea.
that Falstaff matchbook was a site
Yes, and I am glad that I got a hold of that thing. Thanks for watching, brad pavlicek. I appreciate it!
How about Michelob Amber Bock vs. Shiner Bock vs. Ziegenbock challenges?
CoLdSiNcE92 I agree!!! That would be fun!!! Even though I know jay like Michelob Amber better 😁
That's a good idea, CS92.
Yeah, I probably would, BB.

Yes, but it's an interesting set of comments, AJ.
I really enjoy both of these beers! It's a tie for me.
That's usually the case, with me.
I get both for 7.99 a 12pack pabst cans miller bottles
That's a decent price, for this day in age.
Nice Grateful Dead at the end there haha
Thank you.
They are definitely distinct with the veggie flavor in High Life. Maybe it was a bit what you ate beforehand that made them seem so similar. I think we need a redux of this video for science purposes.
Well, I just think they're so close and not so dissimilar. I may do a redo, one day.
High Life all the way. Still my favorite cheap lager. Excellent video.
Thanks for watching, The Bearded Nemophilist. I appreciate it!
Coin flip (to me). I think Coors Banquet needs some challenges.
Same, here. Stay tuned, for Coors!
Ronald Theriot I love Coors I think Coors vs Hamms would be a good one because they are similar.
Both yummy, but High Life takes the cake here as it's usually $.25ish cheaper
Same, here. Even cheaper!
Mickeys vs MGD??
I try not to "cross style", with challenges, though.
Budweiser vs miller high life for the next one!!
Haven't I done that?
yup you did... 4 months ago :)
I never taste the pabst until i start see your videos and i start like that beer good vídeos 🍺cheeers
Thanks so much, Alberto!
Shit happens. Entertaining video.
Yeah, I was shamed. Thanks, hbw101.
$10 for PBR? That's insane! Not worth it!
Louisiana beer prices aren't so great. Thanks for watching, ambientx. I appreciate it!
Good on ya for getting your elderly neighbor beer.
Thanks. Yes, she enjoys those treats.
I’d drink high life more if it was 5% like bud
I think others would agree with you.
