  • UPDATE: I'm 18 now and I'm doing so much better:) I wanted to put this video out here to make people's feelings about living with depression more heard. Hopefully, you can resonate with my words.
I'm aware that this video is far from perfect in the excution. But, I still want to put it public to document my growth. I'm not ashamed of how I was and proud of how much I'm changing.

My first spoken word poetry channel to watch! Thank you for visiting my channel and letting me into your world. You know Hakim, there was a time I was so down. I found myself rock bottom and poetry saved me in many ways. It brought me back to life. Through words penned by my heart, I rose from the darkest days. While listening to you, I was brought back to those times and you are right. You are soooo right. There is light! ❤️

I love your impulsiveness and the genuine way you express your own words through your face’s gestures. I love the selection of the music, you adjust yourself to this musical flow.. and this is the artistic side of your talent too. This is a very common issue people face nowadays, but the way you make an impact through this, is unique and powerful. Thank you for this amazing video. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I think you have a very good skill here Hakim - sharing your words in such a way that flows and I think many of us can relate to. A tip I would have would be to lower the music just a tad bit so your voice comes out louder in the video. Poetry is not something I have been good at myself, but it shows that you have been working on this for a while. Keep up the solid work! And I think there is a place for this =)

Ohhh my goshhh! Thank youuu sooo much for your sweet words! Yeah actually, I've been practising poetry since qurantine started or so, it has been a while so❤ Well Actually I think that the latest videos are much more better and improved than this one❤ And it's totally okay! We all haveee different stengths, what matters is that we recognize them and we work on them❤ btw what do you think of depression?❤

@@hakimpoetry Hey not bad at all, and for starting so soon! Depression is something I think comes in waves (up and down) that majority of people experience. I think the more important part is how does one recover from there all time low. Do they stumble, look for avenues of help (unhealthy habits), then again spiral down further into depression - or does someone try to instill good behaviors that will help themselves/others. There is a good book I recommend called "How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie that helps address what I would also say is applicable to symptoms of depression. Take some time reading it, and if you do, let me know what your thoughts are. I have been reading it again for the second time as it has been a few years since I first picked it up. I would say it has great information on addressing anxiety/worry and enjoying things more in the moment as time is significantly wasted thinking about the past (which sometimes I might spend too much time thinking about, I think many of us do this). Take care!

I don't usually find my eyes watery by watching a youtube video but...it happened :/
I struggled with depression for a few years, with lower and higher lows (yes, i wrote it like that on purpuse). I overcame it and it feels so good to feel good now. It's really weird...cause...while i was depressed i wouldn't remember much about how i was before and, now, that i'm ok, i don't remember a lot about certain aspects of how i was then...it's weird and hard to explain but...you do come out of it stronger (get it? Come out? Gay? Yes, gay makes me laught, do you have a problem with that?! **fake strong and dangerous pose**...i'm just joking around don't worry, i like to make my writing as close to how i talk...i speak WEIRDian :)) )
ok, i got lost in this comment but you did a really good job! I'm not just being nice, i mean it.
(Oh, that could be another one: "i'm not being NICE, i MEAN it", get it? Nice, mean?...my humor is weird most of the time but it makes me and other people smile so... it's ok...)
