This is the most British thing I have ever seen in my life. Two blokes cooking traditional english Christmas meal on a narrow boat. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 :).
I watched this 4 years after you published it but I can feel the vibe, these kinds of experiences are gold well done for capturing it without it being contrived . Well done brilliant.
4 years later and this video still brings me smile when it pops up on my feed at Christmas! This video means a lot more this year than the past 3 because of the circumstances this Christmas of course!
I must agree with Lesley, I am homesick for a place I have never been. Since discovering David’s channel, I have been trying to binge watch them in order. As of now, I am just a little more than a third through them. They keep getting better and better! -Phil K from Indianapolis USA.
Wrapped that bacon around some jalapeños and cream cheese little ranch dressing with it. Yum. I’m from south Louisiana, the hotter, the better 🦐🦀🦞🌶️🌶️🌶️
David, that was a wonderful vlog. As time permits, I am navigating my way through your collection. One problem is that I watch some of them many times over. The food looked delicious. Your friend from North Texas.
No salt on the boat? The quartermaster (aka David) must walk the plank! (we all know you've got one, it's on the top of the boat beside the pole) Jokes aside...that does look like a lovely Christmas dinner! Tip of the hat to the chef's and of course the videographer....nicely done.
This was the most enjoyable 24 minutes and 31 seconds I have spent since I was dating my wife of 43 years. Thanks for letting us share your Christmas of 2016.
The way Gary says: "It will be alright, we'll do it! It will be great, don't worry!" is so reassuring and trustworthy; he could and should become PM with that slogan! ;)
This was lovely! I know you don't cook, but I'm so glad you did a heavy-duty cooking video, if only to show off how your boat can hold five people very comfortably. As much as I love watching videos on the minutiae of fitting out a narrowboat, this is what it's all for: living in and entertaining (occasionally. We don't have to go mad with it). I hope Father Christmas brought you a new chair. :(
This is without a doubt the very best vlog of all narrowboaters. I amazed at the amount of food prepared in such a small space and everyone's great humour. Just so very English.....I am homesick. Cheers from Canada.
9:45 Contrary to popular belief, that does not actually sharpen the knife blade. That process is called knife honing, and it basically just straightens the edge of the blade that naturally curls over with use. It's an excellent form of maintenance that helps extend the life of the knife and extend the time between proper sharpening. I also strongly believe that one of the most dangerous tools in any kitchen is a dull knife.A sharp knife makes it effortless to use, which means you can more easily use it with precision. A dull knife on the other hand, requires more brute force to get the same results, and with more force comes the higher chance of loss of control of the blade.
I usually put the carrots, sprouts and potatoes straight into the roasting pan with the turkey after sprinkling them with some herbs. They cook up full of flavour and less tidying up after for me. We also usually have a salad and tourtierre that’s left over from Réveillion the night before. Then it’s mince tarts, Christmas pudding and tarte-a-sucre for dessert. Being a good Canadian i have to mix the English and French traditions. This year for Easter supper it’s going to be an Ethiopian feast because...... it’s delicious, and we’re all craving Doro Wot
Thank you David. That was lovely. Though I had to laugh when I saw the size of the turkey. We typically spend Thanksgiving with my wife's large family in the Midwest states and prepare a 22 pound bird for the horde to devour. Here they're often soaked for 24 hours in brine, jammed full of breaded stuffing, bagged in some kind of melt-proof plastic and baked for 4-6 hours. We put them in and out of the oven with a fork-lift. I imagine a bird that big would have made your boat list. On to the next video now. Bye bye!
You all look like you had great fun together. With both laughter and joy. Life is made up of many many millions of moments. May each of your moments be joyful. Expert Gary and Myra made me laugh a few times also his wife Carol was laughing in the background as well. In the mean time, I have no doubt that Adrian has had Ninja training in his younger days, after taking a glimpse of him working that rather large knife.
After finding your channel, I started watching your videos from the beginning. This video is from 2016 but can we get him to do an updated Christmas dinner this year? He is making me hungry!!!
I am reckoned around these parts to be a dab hand in the kitchen having grown up with a mother who worked summers at camp as a cook for up to 100 ppl per meal, with me helping out. I learned a lot from her. But… "Expert Gary" and company had me watering at the mouth and rightly jealous of their skill in the kitchen. I would have been more than happy to have sat at your table for that amazing meal. Merry Christmas to everyone!
I've been watching Cruising The Cut from the beginning an very much enjoying this. But this and the previous Christmas celebration on the Village Butty are quite lovely and special. What a jolly Yule time with your new friends!
Wonderful Christmas Meal! we shall be having rack of lamb, which is actually quite rare in Texas (hardly any lamb at the butcher). Best of luck with the chair repairs, and I hope you have a wonderful new year! Thanks for putting together such lovely videos....you're one of the few on youtube with some talent AND an interesting subject to talk about. Keep the entertainment coming :)
I am watching all your videos again, since I have nearly finished Vandemonium, and I am really enjoying both your channels. They are so wonderfully relaxing to watch. I switch between your videos and Andrew Ditton, both of you keeping me sane. Thank you
That was a splendid way to get Christmas Dinner. Now you can go back to using your oven and grill for storage I suspect. Hope you all had a good Christmas.
The pigs in a blanket surprised me! We usually wrap ours with bread dough of some sort! However anything wrapped in bacon works well in my family! Looks like a great meal! ❤️
I loved this video, nothing like a cheerful Christmas video! It was both heartwarming and very amusing! Time to nitpick... "knife sharpening"? 👀 The tool he used to 'sharpen' that knife is called a 'steel' (in The States, anyway). A steel is used only for honing AFTER it has been properly sharpened. (many moon's ago, I was a butcher). Also, as long as I'm picking nits, the male Masterchef used a fork to do his stirring with lol.
David, I can think of no other comment to make about this heart warming video other than, Charming, simply Charming. Happy Christmas to you and to your guests.
My wife, daughter and I spent the first 6 months of 1968 in East Anglia developing electronics for the R.A.F. We saw many Bisto signs all around the country. Finally I found out what Bisto is watching a show on narrowboats. Best wishes from Texas. Cuero, Texas is he turkey capital of the world.
Sir, I hope you and your family had a good time here in East Anglia during 1968. A great time for music and London seemed to be the centre of the world back then.
Top class. Well done to all of the crew, great chef by the way, I do all the cooking at our home and I know just how difficult it can be, he was so calm. trust you got your chair repaired.
Wishing you a very happy Christmas and 2017 and many thanks for all the trouble you have gone to, giving us the enjoyment and information you have provided to us all.
Luv this episode. Gary has inspired me to try honey parsnips. I’m a bit of an avid cook, but never tried them. I think they’re like a carrot?? I am going to make them exactly as he did. Tell Gary he needs a cooking vlog! Enjoying your videos, very much, from Boston in the US. Your a perfect narrator & your friends are great
D.B. Allen I love when the wife says sorry I've burnt the parsnips, I think well there gonna taste great. when they have gone like caramel yum melts in my mouth. Oh I can't wait for Christmas.
I have seen almost all of your videos and this one is one of my favorites. Your whole channel makes me smile and think that I'd like to come across the pond as they say from the US and try out a Narrowboat. May you truly be blessed my friend. If theres ever anything you need please let me know.
Absolutely loved this video! I’m a sucker for Christmas anyhow, and with good friends and good food, it’s wonderful. I’m really hungry for a complete Christmas dinner now and it’s only 8a at the time of posting this. 😃
Thank you so much! Ive only recently found your channel, and Im bingewatching. Im an ex-sailor and exarmy. So getting by with limited means in confined spaces is a thing of mine. I absolutely love the content.
While it was a while back I'm sure you still remember how delicious that must have been by the looks of it! I did not get in the mood for last Christmas, but in all honesty the next one is already sending its tendrils of hope and feel-good towards me! Patience, a bit more hunkering down and this will all be over by summer with a bit of luck, otherwise by fall. 🎄
A very belated Merry Christmas, it looks like you all had a lovely day and a lovely meal. It was a very good demonstration of what is possible in a narrow boat kitchen. Gary has hidden talents and I will remember my welder next Christmas.🎅🎅🎅
Really enjoyed this episode. I am not a fan of cooking and also cook only to survive rather than for pleasure. So lovely seeing the fullness of a narrow boat filled with friends and laughter.
Lovely, it is fascinating to see the differences between nations. Roasted vs mashed, fresh buns or Yorkshire, freshly cooked cranberry sauce. Your turkey seemed to be missing some bits, like the legs and wings. The roasted bones make a lovely stock for homemade soup to be enjoyed in future days when it is cold and dreary out. I have cooked a full similar meals in my caravan. Roasted chicken, roast beef and even a small turkey. The key to the lack of space is to prep the veggies the night before or earlier in the morning. I do love the idea of the multi level steamer.
It called a bone in Turkey breast. You can find them all over the US. It's for those who think the dark meat isn't healthy enough, or those that like drier, less flavorful meat. They probably used it, because of the smaller oven.
Another beautiful video. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think the coziness of living aboard adds to the experience. I lived aboard a boat in Key West Florida for a time and I miss it very much. This made me a bit "homesick" for boat life. Well done.
Wow, it's hard work cooking a large meal in such a tiny kitchen but they did a brilliant job! Friends, laughs and food are all you really need for a great Christmas.
Merry Christmas ( belatedly) I enjoyed the cooking show immensely. Watched this at 2 AM 12/26 and ohhh was I salivating I absolutely had to grab some leftover turkey dinner and heat it up.! Don't forget to hydrate properly.🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 Thanks for a really good video right up to your standards. Bon Apetite
That was a smallish bird but I suppose it would have to be in order to fit a smallish oven. I was out doing some grocery shopping today and I saw a turkey (at least they said it was...) that would have put out my back had I tried to lift it. Honestly it must have had a lot of Ostrich in its recent ancestry. Great series and keep it up.
I know I am 4 years too late, but just going through your blog, and I have to say, I really enjoyed this episode. Merry Christmas mate.
Me too. Trying to catch up on years of video. Enjoy them all so much
Love re-watching this periodically for it simply makes one feel good.
I agree.
This is the most British thing I have ever seen in my life. Two blokes cooking traditional english Christmas meal on a narrow boat. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 :).
I find myself rewatching this anually, if not weekly, when the festive season comes around
🤣
I'm watching this in August in Houston Texas.... B damned but if it didnt feel like christmas for a short time. Thank you, thank you....
Same here...but Pittsburg, TX. (Even though that was not a turkey...only the breast. LOL)
I watched this 4 years after you published it but I can feel the vibe, these kinds of experiences are gold well done for capturing it without it being contrived . Well done brilliant.
no salt apparently that's not normal. You weren't kidding about not cooking lol .
Gary should have his own channel. Heis very entertaining imo :)
One of the happiest cooking video ever seen!
Glad you think so!
I will be 61 this year and cannot believe that I've been crushing OXO the wrong way. Expert Gary is a LEGEND. 😎
Expert Gary - Jack of all trades, master of all of them.
You have to admire the confidence of his parents when they named Expert Gary.
@@VanderlyndenJengold 😂
4 years later and this video still brings me smile when it pops up on my feed at Christmas! This video means a lot more this year than the past 3 because of the circumstances this Christmas of course!
Watching this in the scorching heat of London might be a bit unseasonal but the cheer and warmth certainly come through in this! Lovely video, thanks.
I must agree with Lesley, I am homesick for a place I have never been. Since discovering David’s channel, I have been trying to binge watch them in order. As of now, I am just a little more than a third through them. They keep getting better and better! -Phil K from Indianapolis USA.
I'm sitting in downtown indy cruising through them as well :)
Fantastic what the chef was able to do in the confined spaces. Absolutely amazing!
Wrapped that bacon around some jalapeños and cream cheese little ranch dressing with it. Yum.
I’m from south Louisiana, the hotter, the better 🦐🦀🦞🌶️🌶️🌶️
I hate eating Poppers that others make. I actually add the seeds into the cream cheese. I mean, it's a jalapeño after all. It's supposed to be hot.
David, that was a wonderful vlog. As time permits, I am navigating my way through your collection. One problem is that I watch some of them many times over. The food looked delicious. Your friend from North Texas.

Very well cooked meal under cramped circumstances! Best part though, you didn't have to lift a finger😊
Yes it was!
What a lovely meal for such a little kitchen, with so many guests!
Part of the fun and enjoyment is working with what you have.
This was the most enjoyable 24 minutes and 31 seconds I have spent since I was dating my wife of 43 years. Thanks for letting us share your Christmas of 2016.
Hahaha, better not tell her that :-)
The way Gary says: "It will be alright, we'll do it! It will be great, don't worry!" is so reassuring and trustworthy; he could and should become PM with that slogan! ;)

Well said. A blunt knife that you have to force into something makes it much more dangerous because it's likely to slip into your hand
Zzzzzzzz.
That gent can cook! What a beautiful meal and monument to the friends you've made since moving aboard your boat. Well done!

David, has this made you want to cook.... the weld on the chair was a bit light on. Did it get re welded... This one was just brilliant 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

I'm going to save this vlog, and next year I can cook a proper English Christmas dinner. Thanks!
This has to be one of my favorite vlogs. Great job!
I am reckoned around these parts to be a dab hand in the kitchen having grown up with a mother who worked summers at camp as a cook for up to 100 ppl per meal, with me helping out. Watching this in the height of summer 😬and this is for the 7th time or something like that. Expert Gary always makes me laugh though
Expert Gary reminds me of Sean Lock. Excellent video, definitely one of the best you've done. Such lovely neighbours.
He's very much like Sean Lock!!
Gary is a very competent cook!
He is. More than competent, I'd say!
I've been watching Cruising The Cut from the beginning an very much enjoying this. But this and the previous Christmas celebration on the Village Butty are quite lovely and special. What a jolly Yule time with your new friends!
As usual all the hard work done by the cook, everyone else benefits. He did so well , organising the cooking in such a small galley. Well done.
19:32 David doesn't have salt & pepper on the boat, but he does have dog biscuits for the dog he doesn't own (top right of screen)
Correct :-)
Wonderful to see your boat hosting guests and alive with conversation because in my opinion nothing else warms a space like the presence of friends.
That Christmas dinner looked amazing. I'm now hungry.
I'm an American but I must say "absolutely smashing." Merry Christmas.
Haha, excellent. Merry Christmas to you!
Wonderful Christmas Meal! we shall be having rack of lamb, which is actually quite rare in Texas (hardly any lamb at the butcher). That's very lovely of you to say and I'm glad you like the videos. Enjoy your lamb!
Indeed.. #Ditto feelings here mate..
What an amazing video to watch even in June! Looks like a great time was had by all! You are indeed fortunate to have such nice friends!
That Christmas dinner looked lush. That's definitely making me hungry. I know where to come next Christmas. Good video 🙂
I am watching all your videos again, since I have nearly finished Vandemonium, and I am really enjoying both your channels. They are so wonderfully relaxing to watch. I switch between your videos and Andrew Ditton, both of you keeping me sane. Thank you
Love this,a repeat viewing since it is all about good times with mates!
That was a splendid way to get Christmas Dinner. Now you can go back to using your oven and grill for storage I suspect. Hope you all had a good Christmas.
Oh ye of little faith! (but true). Happy Christmas
That was lovely good food and friends on a narrowboat for Christmas dinner.
Oh my what a jolly crew! Thank you for sharing your lovely friends.
Ah, David. That brought a tear to me eyes. Friends are the best and it looks as if you have some to cherish. :)
What a nice video, and what a nice time for all of you. thanks.
feastivus for the rest of us. Looks good!
@MrBadabimBadabum WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?
Watching this in the summer of 2019 and am dreaming of christmas already!!
Several years late here.. but that dinner looks delicious! Excellent cooking skills.
The pigs in a blanket surprised me! We usually wrap ours with bread dough of some sort! However anything wrapped in bacon works well in my family! Looks like a great meal! ❤️

I've watched this video 3 times already but it never gets old, lol.... keep up the great content David.
Definitely your best ever David, what lovely friends too.
Thank you; yes, they are :-)
David, I can think of no other comment to make about this heart warming video other than, Charming, simply Charming. Happy Christmas to you and to your guests.
Thank you, Antony! Merry Christmas to you too.
I've watched this video several times - love it!
First thing I thought, I hope David has full propane tanks!
What a nice meal. Loved Gary. Fun time together.

Thanks, both! Happy new year!
So excellent again. A totally fun Christmas dinner "How To". Really great, all of you!
Many thumbs up!
Cheers!
Your a perfect narrator & your friends are great
I thought I was the only one who liked parsnips. A truly proper Christmas feast. No man is a failure who has friends!
D.B. Allen I love when the wife says sorry I've burnt the parsnips, I think well there gonna taste great. when they have gone like caramel yum melts in my mouth. Oh I can't wait for Christmas.
What wonderful friends to celebrate the holiday with🥂😁

That's very kind, thank you. There are plenty of hire firms that will rent you a boat for a week or two (albeit at a cost!) :-)
I've been looking at some things to do with that. Have a very blessed week my friend!
Absolutely loved this video! I’m a sucker for Christmas anyhow, and with good friends and good food, it’s wonderful. I’m really hungry for a complete Christmas dinner now and it’s only 8a at the time of posting this. 😃
Can't beat a good roast!!! (Especially mums of course...!) Well done all and sundry! Great video 😊
:-)
OMG! Absolutely awesome!!!! Looks like you all had such a wonderful day, wish I was there. Made me quite hungry :-)
Expert Gary is one of a kind. Now I understand why you rever his advice!
Thank you so much! Ive only recently found your channel, and Im bingewatching. Im an ex-sailor and exarmy. So getting by with limited means in confined spaces is a thing of mine. I absolutely love the content.
Glad you enjoy it!

What a superb film. 100% brilliant. Merry Christmas. Enjoy your meal
That Christmas dinner looks FAB !!
It was!
This was Awesome and incredible !! Thank you !!
Merry Christmas, David :) Awesome video as always!
Cheers Mads! What's the Danish Christmas Day like?
Nice and relaxing ;) .... dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78717/IMG_20161226_122408.jpg
***** Haha, I've only just been able to see this (don't ask). Love it.
Wonderful video, I wish I could have been there. To cook such a feast in that tiny kitchen is a true matter of skill, so kudos to the chef!
Parboiling facilitates a nice, crisp, crunchy exterior on roast spuds and a pleasantly soft, mealy interior.
Another beautiful video. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think the coziness of living aboard adds to the experience. I lived aboard a boat in Key West Florida for a time and I miss it very much. This made me a bit "homesick" for boat life. Well done.
I'm pleased to have made you sick (!!! - in the nicest way). Cheers
I learnt a new tip not seen before about the potatoes!
Wow, it's hard work cooking a large meal in such a tiny kitchen but they did a brilliant job! Friends, laughs and food are all you really need for a great Christmas.
They certainly did. I hope they realise I want them back for next time :-)
Randomly watching this in late August and you have put me in the mood for Christmas! Merry Belated Christmas!
So far my favorite episode so far, your friends are a riot. :D
Very good job. 👍👍👍👍👍
SUPERB living the dream no hassle no conditioning must do this ..must do that.. i envy these good folk.
Now I'm hungry! 😋
Merry Christmas ( belatedly)
I enjoyed the cooking show immensely. Watched this at 2 AM 12/26 and ohhh was I salivating I absolutely had to grab some leftover turkey dinner and heat it up.!
Don't forget to hydrate properly.🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷
Thanks for a really good video right up to your standards.
Bon Apetite
Mmmmm, leftover turkey. Delicious. :-)
That was an heroic effort. Well done.
