    I know your content is mostly video-oriented, but do you have a recommendation for workflows for using this lens for VR180 *still* photos? I'd rather avoid trying to individually edit photos in Da Vinci Resolve and would rather stick to as much Lightroom and Photoshop as possible. I'm using the EOS RP, so the Canon VR utility won't be an option (I'm also working with Vuze 180 DNGs). Currently using some scripts I made using Sharp JS and FFMpeg for crop and equirectangular conversion, but I'm just starting on setting up a workflow.

    Once again, thank you Hugh for this very interesting tutorial !
    If I understand correctly, it's better to use Mistika VR to manually stitch moving footages (with gimbal), when the edit is done, using timecodes (like an edl) ? Because the automatic stitching in EOS VR Utility will use the first frame of the footage and will create a "bad" 3D if we move the camera ? Am I right ?
    Also, sad there is not an anaglyph view in this VR utility to quickly check the 3D.
    Still, this is a fantastic workflow for a shooting with the camera on tripod.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes or not. If you movement is controlled and slow, EOS VR doing a pretty good job as well. Also lighting is a huge factor as well. Low light with motion blur will not be good.

    OMG that would be amazing!! BUT you still need to denoise, and it's better to do it on the 'RAW' with neat video (at 1fps.. but still) no?
    edit: OK watching your video I can see you talk about this, but if you 'defish' the noise would also be 'stretched' at the top and the bottom, and I would assume davinci/neat won't be able to remove it like they can when the frame is directly from the sensor in RAW?

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NeatVideo understand stretch noise as they design the software to handle that. Not so sure about Resolve tho. You are right, and that is good reason to do NR in the new EOS VR. I just not used to do that and a lot easier to just do it in Resolve. Also Resole render a lot faster. NR and Sharpen significantly slow down the process.

      PC work just fine. I use PC and Mac. I am just saying HEVC is not the best approach but PC EOS VR do not have DNxHR render. So for PC, I will use all my old tutorial on resolve or Mistika VR render - which work perfectly fine and faster. PC also has render speed strength - as I mentioned in the video, better GPU is faster. But the best combo can be render out in Mac into ProRes and drop it into PC for editing :)

I can't buy a 3090/4090 like you since I have limited budget. Is 16G of VRAM enough for 8k editting/grading? It seems Intel Arc A770 16G would be an economic choice.

    Hearing just what happens on other cameras like r6 1 and 2 or even rp. Do you get aperture control or no? I take it the two circles fit in 16:9? Or do you need a 3:2 option? Don't have enough funds to get to r5 and especially when at that level it'd be hard not to go to r5c for 60p 8k. But well settling on r6 ii 4k 60p and having an option for 6k 60p later adding an external recorded is making some sense. Instead of settling on unsynced two GoPro choices.
    But have still not managed to find out what you get when putting it on those other cameras. I could get by no aperture control I guess but knowing if the circles fully fit in 16/9 would be useful.

We use it to output 4K 60fps using touchdesigner all the time for livestream. Beside that, I still highly recommand NOT use Premiere - as it crash on Canon RAW file and just overall very big experience. Use EOS VR to get ProRES then Premiere is the way to go.

    Hello, Hugh, I'm a VR photographer from China. I have a problem when I use R5c now. When I shoot RAW LT clog3, the ISO setting can only be 160, which is higher than this value and the picture noise is very loud. What method did you use to solve it?

    Hey Hugh, love your work. Hoping you can help with a couple of questions Canon has failed to help with!
    1. Have you or anyone you know had issues with the H.265 4:4:4 output from the EOS VR Utility on PC? I get glitchy dropped frames randomly, sometimes after 20 seconds, sometimes after 15, which totally ruins immersion (note it's only with the H.265, no such issue with H.264 or other export formats). Happens with my R5C Raw footage but ALSO with my old R5 MP4 footage (so its a H.265 issue rather than a raw handling issue). Everything else works fine (so can't justify a Mac just to workaround this bug). I have followed your tutorials and am getting good videos otherwise, but unusable.
    2. I have followed all your exposure tips and have finally gotten noise levels down on the R5C but it is still SO noisy compared to R5 footage I used to take. Assume that is the RAW format but don't know if my noise level is normal or not. Do you ALWAYS denoise your raw footage even when you have nailed exposure? I need to, so wanted to see if that is normal or not.
    Thanks a lot!
    RK

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I don't use it b/c the format is not editing friendly. But it can due to your GPU. What GPU you are using? It require lots of processing power. / 2. Yes, RAW footage has NO DENOISE so it is very common it is noisy. But you can turn it down using EOS VR Utility - the denoise and sharpen slider work wonder most of the time.

      But you can create a 4 Channel output for 1st Order Ambisonic Projects.
      And You can create 16 Channel Tracks to Rotate and Move things in 3rd Order Ambisonic. And at the End of each Track you just Downconvert it to 1st Order using a Decoder Plugin.
      I mainly use the Free O3A Core. And you use Automation in Fairlight to get Lav-Mics from Moving Objects into the Scene. I already recorded an English Tutorial but since my Channel is German i don´t know where to upload it.
