Great stuff Dean! I do kinda feel like having side-chaining would be preferable, both in terms of not have to cut as much low bass to get the mix to sit, and being able to get those ghost kick pumping effects when the kick is muted (if the sidechain trigger is pre-mute). Obviously you're aiming for an all Erica system here, but something like the Endorphines Airstreamer 4 might work nicely for that. The other other thing that it might benefit from is some slow LFO's or sample & hold random (especially if it's kept subtle through some attenuverters), maybe from something like the Dnipro Krait. I'd also be interested to see your take on live rack choosing from all your modules, rather than just the Erica ones
Hey Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check this out! 😁🙏👊 Yep, as you already guessed - this was an attempt at all All-Erica-Synths setup this time, but generally I like to use the WMDevices MSCL for sidechaining the kick and bass. It works great and is only 4hp. A couple of years ago, I did another deep dive on a different system I put together specifically for live techno: th-cam.com/users/liveInbLFP95xPg?si=_vgZ9y_HJysGG6mJ
@@ElectronisoundsAudio for serious techno and house producers, a good EQ and side chain is MANDATORY. This lack of EQ/side chain in the Erica Synths techno system really is the main flaw. Hopefully Erica Synths Girts comes out with a good EQ and side chain effects modular mixer that addresses these issues. Endorphines already have these modules.
Great info, like a primer in euro rack performance 👍👍 Also Tendrils cables are also really thin and super useful, comes in different lengths and in 1/4” too
BTW, I personally prefer your style of music with the Techno System then the hardcore and harsh stuff which you usually see with it. So it was encouraging for me to realize that the Techno System facilitates this more melodical style you were showing and educating about. I just recently discovered the Techno System, but since I already have a large setup (I guess due to your „…just one more module” paradigm) and I own already the LXR Eurorack and their drum sequencer, I thought I just buy selectively ES drum modules: Bassline, Bass Drum2, Snare, Clap, Dual FX and after watching your show for 2 hours I ordered the Sample Drum. My thinking is that some sounds can be done by the LXR and others by the Sample Drum. Is the LXR from your perspective too digital to skip for a while the Hi Hats D and the Cymbals or would you rather complement the System with one of the two asap. I skip their three mixers since I have the Xer Mixa along with FX send/returns and the Messor etc. And, sorry for taking advantage of your deep experience: should that LXR go once the rest of the drum modules from the Techno System are in or the other way around: keep the LXR and skip some of their drum modules. I am talking in the context and sounds of your style of music. Thanks again for your great insights how to approach this whole process and for sharing your framework! Here is a link of the modified techno system from ES where they demo the LXR in a kind of “alternative” Techno System with the LXR: th-cam.com/video/u7Lg6BAelvk/w-d-xo.html
@@romanstehling6329 I think the CYMBALS module is a HUGE addition to any setup as you can EASILY get so many different percussion type drum sounds from it instantly with just the small turn of the knobs. You don't have to go into any menus to dramatically morph the sounds (like you would have to do with the LXR-02). It's so immediate for me. The thing I love about the hats-d module is simply being able to change the DECAY of the hat super quickly at any time to build of lessen the INTENSITY of the beat(s). No menus - just "think it - DO IT" type of flow. For sure though - You can get some great sounds from the LXR, and being able to change WHOLE KITS on the fly would be a nice advantage as well. Mostly, I think it pretty much just depends on your personal wants and workflow. I really do love that CYMBALS module, though! 👊❤
This is an amazing tutorial breakdown of your setup & creative approach! Great job, brother! Your sound & technique is sooooo motivating! Much love from Detroit! ❤
Strong point about "not wanting to switch anything" e.g. to mute channels. This is a huge aspect to user interface design called "no modes" - if only it was upheld more broadly. The worst kind of mode is an invisible mode where there's no indication that you are in a mode (or it's not dark-club-booth-visible)- "oh no you can't do that because i'm in the wrong mode!"
I get the benefits of locating key controls like mutes on the extreme left while you have your right hand free but also I've tried to balance cable routing mess - your mutes seem to all need to sit between the sequencer gate outs and their respective instrument modules. So my question is have you considered putting the mutes on the right or maybe moving the sequencer to the left to reduce gate cables criss-crossing the case?
Interesting point! I guess I'm kind of just following the original layout of the Erica Synths Techno system with the sequencer being on the bottom right, but might make more sense to move it like you suggested! I don't keep anything the same for long though, and I'm honestly not planning to do more with this setup before I take it apart again... Hahaha Big Ups and thanks for that suggestion! 😁🙏👊
Agree on 1010 such a great mixer! I want the eurorack module. My go to eurorack mixers are WMD Performance Mixer and Befaco Hex Mixer. Lots of great mute options, EQ and so forth.
"your dancefloor is gonna pass out" 😂 Amazing and thoughtful stream as usual!

Is the blue cable some kind of mono mixer cable, or just a splitter?
It's just a 2 mono into 1 mono splitter - DOPPIO M-PAR cable from Luigi's Modular Supply to be specific! Love his cables! 💙
