Bob Burns describes his cousin Clemantine's shoe size as, "Two cow hides and a half a bushel of tacks."

Yea, since the anti-tank weapon resembled Burns' 'bazooka' it was a lot cooler to yell to your buddy, "SHOOT THAT TANK WITH THE BAZOOKA" instead of shouting "FIRE THAT MAN-PORTABLE RECOILLESS ANTITANK SOLID FUEL ROCKER LAUNCHER WEAPON AT THAT TANK!" "HIT IT WITH THAT BAZOOKA" just sounded a whole lot cooler.
During World War II, German armed forces captured several bazookas in early North African and Eastern Front encounters and soon reverse engineered their own version, increasing the warhead diameter to 8.8 cm (among other minor changes) and widely issuing it as the Raketenpanzerbüchse "Panzerschreck" ("Tank terror").
The term "bazooka" continues to be used informally as a genericized term to refer to any shoulder-fired missile weapon (mainly rocket propelled grenades).

For compariſon, Wikipedia currently ſays, in part,
"During World War II, German armed forces captured several bazookas in early North Africa[7] and Eastern Front encounters and soon reverse engineered their own version,[8] increasing the warhead diameter to 8.8 cm (among other minor changes) and widely issuing it as the Raketenpanzerbüchse "Panzerschreck" ("Tank terror").[8] Near the end of the war, the Japanese developed a similar weapon, the Type 4 70 mm AT Rocket Launcher, which featured a rocket propelled grenade of a different design.[9]
"The term "bazooka" still sees informal use as a generic term referring to any ground-to-ground shoulder-fired missile weapon (mainly rocket propelled grenade launchers or recoilless rifles)."
Thoſe are the ſecond and third paragraphs of the "bazooka" article. As far as I can tell, you copied and paſted from there, which is fine- as long as it's attributed. At leaſt, that's my underſtanding. Here's the URL to the complete ſharing licence (in the bottom margin of the bazooka article in fine print it ſays that it applies, as of this comment): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_Attribution-ShareAlike_3.0_Unported_License

For such an upbeat song that Clementine song is pretty sad and dark.

They did, they captured some bazookas in North Africa and then made their own version called the Panzerschreck or tank-terror. I know this because I just bought the Osprey booklet on the weapon and they have page with Bob Burns on it with both bazooka and the namesake. It got named by Gen. Barnes who claimed it looked like Bob Burns Bazooka. I'm here because I just purchased that book.:)

Wow! A slide jug or variable volume Himholtz resonator. Tomorrow I'll be hitting the Redwood flea market looking for nice fitting thin wall tubing and an old galvanized funnel with lots of character..

I just read that the Bazooka (gun) was named for a home made musical instrument used in jazz and I wanted to hear what the bazooka instrument sounded like, so I found myself here. What it made me think of...you know that old joke (I think it was enacted in a "If you don't stop it, You'll go blind" movie), the punch line is "You woke me at 3 a.m. to hear some a__hole play Dixie?"

It sure was a mouthful to yell to your buddy, "Hey! Hand me that shoulder fired recoilless anti-tank rocket launcher, M1!"
