Sifu Adam Chan, I have practiced the Chinese Martial Arts for over fifty years. I love how the Art has played a deep role in my life. I would not be the man I am today without it. I just want to say thank you for your wisdom, your talent, your commitment and your willingness to share your gifts with the world.
Excellent video, I greatly enjoyed it. This is the most direct explanation of Shu Ha Ri that I have seen. I particularly liked your opening: "you can read the menu, but you don't know what food tastes like." Also your closing: "Stop typing/reading and go train". Thank you
When we talk about “create” I find a lot of people misconstrue this with doing whatever you want. I find not many people realise, creativeness always has to find its path through a framework. That framework is your foundation without it what you “create” has no direction and is not productive, usually as a result they give up. Using the water analogy, it’s like getting water to one side to another, sure you can do it, but wouldn’t it be so much better to use a pipe i.e. a structure? Thanks for sharing Sifu Adam. Btw not saying you don’t know this already, I am sure you do but I found many people don’t understand art in general and how it works.
Good video Adam. That's the same thing as the hermetic axiom & I know a lot of new age people throw that around for different things but it nonetheless is true. Having said that, I would counter with that the physical level has as many plusses & minuses as the psychological level.
That one dislike haha Thanks for sharing, Sifu! It's been hard finding a teacher with the same mentality that I seek to have for my self! I will check out your online teachings shortly!
Think that the last phase is two fold, 1 you come to actualization of the entire art and realize it is compleat. And second you realize that just because you can doesn't give you the right to. These two concepts compleat your training. You can compleat the training in several arts its all a process some better then others some worse than others. Guess it's part of the same coin of head and tails you mentioned. Or good bad yin yang etc.. but the training is sound and can last forever the rules and objectives just change because it's a journey in learning and execution over time. It translates to anything especially business.
This bring back an old question...did Bruce Lee die due to overtrain because he loved martial art too much? 😑 Passion can also be a curse, that is new to me.
I read more (philosophy and theory across the fields of the arts and sciences), and do less. If we don't understand the world, we have no true purpose. Consent not to be a single being. Practicing Qigong (for me) has been a good path towards connecting the inner and out cosmos. One strike is too many.

Hey Adam, I've got a question. How do you see punches from close range (check corners)? Maybe a future video idea. Thank you in advance!
