The wink and the little kiss,,, I almost threw up, I was laughing so hard. Seriously, good video. Your writing is thorough and well thought out. I found the saddest part of this story the fact that the handcuffs were a necessity in the first place. That Jessie wasn't enough for Gerald, or Gerald for Jessie, is a heartbreaking reality that so many couples go through. Looking back, the saddest part of the story wasn't the death of Gerald and, essentially, torture of Jessie, but that the loss of their love led them to this nightmare in the first place. Good job. Looking forward to the movie discussion. Flanagan is fantastic. His writing is excellent. So many people bashed 'Midnight Mass' for the long and boring dialogue, but I felt that this was the shining point of that series. 👍
Damn, dude. I genuinely think you have a ton of insightful and worthwhile commentary to add to these stories. Don’t get me wrong, your crude and harsh critiques are entertaining, but you should let this other side show more, my friend. Btw, I watched your GOT vid. I’ve never watched the show, but frankly after that intro I wasn’t there for the GOT commentary anyway. And that Jackass video with the reality tv commentary, that was a great vid man. I can’t remember the exact wording but “Shine on you magnificent r-words” had me cackling. Midnight Mass was amazing and I was enthralled the entire time. Loved it!
@@agreatundertaking I'm working on it. I had to re-record most of it today, and I'm working on the visuals right now, but I should have a rough copy done in a day or 2. I'll send you the link. Curious to know what you think.
@@agreatundertaking Thank you, I appreciate it. When I did that first ROP video I knew very little about the process of editing, not that I know everything now, but doing all of those videos was a crash course. I had to learn as I went. But of course, as you know, presentation is extremely important, secondary to the actual content, but important.
It's one of the most interesting novel from King, I love its themes and its execution a lot! I thought it would be impossible to adapt it to the screen, but as you know, Flanagan did an amazing job... Also, y... Yes... Yes, I do like what I see, Mister Doyle, I mean Sir, I mean Master, I mean Daddy, I mean sir... Master Doyle! Sir... 😳
YES! "Dolores Claiborne" is one of my favorites! Possibly because my grandmother, who I adored, spoke almost exactly like Dolores (including many colorful insults that I probably had no business hearing as a child 🤣). And Kathy Bates was Perfect casting in the movie - a highly underrated movie, IMO.😁
I'm really glad that King did do his due diligence by having it be Gerald pushing for the kink and not Jessie. Like you said, a lot of people still assume that people into BDSM have some pathological issue. And while that CAN be the case, it's certainly not a fair generalization. I really appreciate it when people who don't share/understand BDSM do their research so they can discuss it fairly and appropriately without resorting to the shaming that many others who know little about the topic jump to. I say all this, having no interest in the practice myself but knowing several people who do and hating when people attribute their kink to something that requires therapy. Serious stuff aside, your jokes in this one were especially entertaining! I look forward to your review of the movie since that was my introduction to this King entry.
Yeah King did a surprisingly good job considering the available information during the era in which he wrote the story. And thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed my attempts to lighten the mood!
This one is a fantastic book. It's disturbing as can be, but it's a read you can't stop once you pick it up. Also, one of the best film adaptations of a book. Mike Flanagan can do no wrong in my opinion. He's joined Ridley Scott (well, it used to be this way), James Cameron and Tom Hanks in being someone I will watch anything by.
I hated this novel the first time I read it, but my opinion was heavily colored by my own experiences of childhood abuse. Re-reading it many years later, I was able to appreciate it and the tension it generates, though it will never be one of my favorites. I found Mike Flanagan's adaptation much easier to stomach for some reason. I can't help but wonder if your outfit was purchased for this video, or if it was something you already had. I know what you SAID, but... 😆
Mike Flanagan did a brilliant job on gerald's game film I really enjoyed it even though the movie was hard for me to watch at times because of my own trauma
It’s entirely understandable that the story was a rough read for you, but I’m glad you were able to revisit it and find at least some enjoyment in it. And I DEFINITELY did not own any of those costume items prior to this video. That’s my story and I’m stickin to it. 😂
Imagine if you had to write a novel about a woman handcuffed to a bed. There doesn't seem to be much you can write about. Most of the novel is just one person stuck in a room. I don't think I could write a novel about that.
Wow. This video was certainly educational. This is one of the books I read when it was released and yet have never gone back to, even only watching the movie one time, even though I love Flanagan’s work. I didn’t dislike it but it also didn’t fully click with me. Wonderful analysis as always. Hope your targeted ads go back to normal soon. And I have to admit, that shirt is very late 90’s Hot Topic. Have an awesome week Mr Doyle.
Ya know, I can’t say it’s one of my favs, but it’s a unique, captivating reading experience at the very least. Lol yeah there was a time I might’ve considered wearing that shirt. It would’ve matched my black nail polish and guy-liner. 🧟♂️
This is a great video, I'm surprised it doesnt have more views. Its written well and doesnt get boring while also being respectful about sensitive topics. I think the most horrific part of this video is that outfit...
Great analysis as always and you are definitely NOT getting paid enough to wear that XD I am already starting to get afraid what the outfit will be in the next video….
This book was not good to me I just couldn't connect with it at times when it comes to kings work it's either a hit or miss gerald's game the book was a big miss unfortunately

Never fuse it with the Pet Semetary outfit.

Finally getting around to watching this- the fit does not disappoint!
I look like Hot Topic threw up on me
Out of all of King's scary/horror/monster novels he has written, the flashback scenes with Jessie and her dad disturbed me more than anything
I concur. Turns out the scene in the movie is extremely hard to watch.
