Shirley Verrett on the Mike Douglas Show...what a wonderful treat to see now, as I'm sure I was just getting home from school at the time, and probably knew nothing about it! I wished we could hear what she sang. Seated next to Godfather of Soul, James Brown!!...Man! you just don't see those things anymore. This was beautiful - Thank You.

Interesting that she touched upon her accent. I haven’t seen any Verrett interviews from this era. She has something close to a Mid-Atlantic accent here. Grace Bumbry had a similar accent around the same time period.
