Im a bucket and hand wash kinda laundry do-er but was always intrigued by these. Thanks for saving me the trouble! (And its important to have multiple uses for one bucket!)
Laundry line hack - thin paracord, fold the line in half and tie in lnots along the length so that the 2 strands lay together. Then you just tuck your clothes into the gap between the lines. No pins required. And because you have a long line of loops, use a carabiner on each end to secure to the trees

Hey Dustin! I live off grid and here is, what I feel, is the best laundry solution for rig livin'.
    -Lehman's manual washing wand
-2 x 5 gallon buckets (one can be a collapsible style)
-The Ninja spinner (by The Laundry Alternative)...spins at 3200 rpm!
-optional - tripod octopus laundry hanger
I can wash clothing or bedding and have it +95% dry in less than 30 minutes. Takes up very little space and weight, you prob already have the buckets, and it uses only as much water as you need or want. Enjoy! Love your channel 🤩

Being a Nomad myself, best way I have found to wash small amounts of clothes is a 5 Gal bucket and a toilet plunger. The old school regular plunger, not the one that has the narrow end that fits in the drain of the toilet. Just plunge the clothes in water and it literally sucks the dirt out.

So tried several whilst I was nomadic... An it's worth it to spend on the 89.00 one.. it's worked well you just can not fill it up with clothes other wise it can not properly agitate... The close need to freely move in water. Plus too much detergent. Your clothes will never get clean but will burn up the machine too! Much like a regular washer... I like a good washboard for getting stuff clean .. so I bought one of those round heavy plastic tubs(has rope handles) then bought an agitator that sticks to bottom of container an agitates. It worked really very well!!
Thanks for sharing your life with us...

Use a large dry bag as washing machine! That's how I wash clothing on road trips and on cruise ships.
Just drop clothes in dry bag, add detergent and water, close it. Shake shake shake. Drain., repeat with rinse water once or twice and you're done!

  • @wendyrobertson-c6m
    @wendyrobertson-c6m 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Better than a washboard is a 5 gallon bucket with a brand new toilet plunger, 5 minutes of plunging, squeeze out soapy water, add clean rinse water and plunge 5 minutes, repeat rinse cycle 2 times. Would recommend you use the True Earth laundry sheets for washing and True Earth fabric softener strips. Both are eco friendly packaged in lightweight cardboard and can be used together in the washer, even your bucket/plunder for true off grid laundry.
I would recommend seperating your laundry just like at home, but with the bucket/plunger system you'll only need 1/4 of a regular load sheet. Wash your sheets at a regular laundromat rather than a bucket because you will not get the sheets or a blanket clean in a 5 gallon bucket no matter how hard you try.
Happy trails and safe travels! Love your vids. BTW my name is Wendy Robertson. For some reason when I selected using my name as my TH-cam name it rejected it as the name was already used multiple times with numbers behind or in front of the name.

Clean 5 gal. bucket with lid. Hole in lid same diameter as the wooden handle on a clean, full sized plunger. A smidge of liquid detergent in bottom. Liquid so it dissolves fast, smidge to facilitate rinsing. The less you put in, the better the outcome. Both detergent and clothes. Clothes in, water in, plunger through lid. Snap lid on. Drive. That evening at camp plunger the bejabbers out of the load. Rinse. Hang to dry.
When we road trip up north we only wash underwear and T shirts. The rest wait for a town large enough to support a laundromat. Often a RV campground has laundry facilities up there.
Edit to say whoops, should have read the comments before typing. Sorry, didn't mean to jump on your post!

For all the years I was on the road nothing beat washing my clothes in the shower. A good smack against the wall to beat the dirt out of really soiled stuff and a good rinsing and hand-wringing solve the problem.
That less than, $100 bucks, piece of crap plastic was worth some comedic gold!

  • @mikebritton8798

They used to make a kitchen version of these. They held alot more and had more power. When clothes were done you moved them to the spinning drum which was crazy fast. You could wash a blanket but it wouldn't fit in the spinner. As for the one you bought, I think I would opt for the washboard or a rock.😅

for doing larger loads. a rubbermaid tote bin works really well. to reduce water usage. reduce the amount of laundry detergent in the wash. I eventually want to make or get a 12 volt washing machine. I have the idea to use a windshield wiper motor to power an agitator. But it's not on top my immediate list of off grid living needs yet!

They make a hand operated washer for camping/off grid. But I might agree with you a washboard may work out better. Or do like they do in the western movies where the woman goes to the creek and beats the clothes across a big bolder.

The 'Wonderwash Non-electric Portable Compact' (Amazon) works pretty good too. The same design was made from metal decades ago. If you find one in an antiques store - go for it. The new ones made of plastic feel flimsy, but still do a better job than a regular top loader. For RVing it is a bit bulky though.
For RVing the plunger style 'Rapid Laundry Washer' (Lehman's or Amazon) works good for smaller loads (5 gal pail) if you really can't find a laundromat for weeks.

He ran a bungee cord through the handles and hung it from the clothes rod in the closet. While he drove down the road the bouncing agitated the laundry. Great book. Have you read it?

I have the little amazon washing machine, but it is small, I bought enough clothes to last a month then head to the laundromat, their big machines can eat 2 comforters or a months' worth of clothes for $14 the mat does the dryer swap for free while I shop done in 77 mins. Even though the small machine uses .3 kw a load, you need to do a lot of loads. $168 for really clean clothes for a year vs using extra water and hang dry. For anyone going off grid that has the room just get a good top loader you could use a generator for an hour with a normal dryer too if you can't spare the extra 5kw a load.

I can't stand the stench of laundry detergent. I use a mix of borax and washing soda, both available at Canadian Tire. A small sealer jar is a years Supply. No ugly smells, a tenth of the price of laundry detergent

I bought one of this out of curiosity and I agree: "Kinda friggin sucks". Same conclusion: it would be much better to use a 5gal. bucket and wash by hand, agitate it with a stick or paddle, or something.
Now, this would have been a hilarious video if Mickey reviewed it! lol

Seems like a 5 gallon bucket and a toilet plunger would be better///of course you'd have to plunge it by hand but it's simple and would work.
