I have a Twizy, and please DONT listen to this IT guy. It is an absolutely amazing vehicle for urban transportation. In Norway you get tons of advantages using an EV, not sure how it works in Britain. I pay about 30 pence for a full charge (6.1 kWh) and it takes me effectively 70 km on a normal run which is less than 5 pence per 10 km. No monthly battery rent (at least on mine), no road tolls what-so-ever, very low government annual fees (1/8 of a normal car), extremely low maintenance fees. The re-sale value on these are quite good so it's a bargain considering the running costs and flexibility. The only issue is of course weight, a collision in 70+ km/h would probably be fatal and should be taken into consideration. For urban use, definitely consider this, if you do mainly freeway driving look elsewhere.
This is a peculiar review since all of the options presented here are very much to my liking! Though I would swap the Mii to an electric one. And I wish there was an electric MP3. I still like the Piaggio. I've seen people do crazy cornering with it. Traction is amazing! And if you are going to buy a scooter then buy a Piaggio!
In the city nothing is like a scooter ! And if Rain just take a set of waterproof clothing . Since years and years I don't use my car in town always with the scooter winter or summer, rain or shine. Only with snow is impossible to go to stand 10 minutes in queue into a metal box just for to overcome a traffic light makes me hysterical !
IDK.. there's pros and cons to each one of those. Depending on where you live, what do you want to do, each one is a good choice. If you want to be cool, maybe enjoy the nice weather and have lots of FUN - MP3 If you've seen the ice caps melting in the news - TWIZZY If you've seen too many EURO NCAP crash tests - MII or better a VOLVO IMO, an old IT project manager isn't much of a benchmark to be honest :))
Steve Smith i'm 55 and been driving a smart for the last 8 years (3 cylinder cars for 28 years), i have no problem with it, and i'm in the states! (where cars and roads are HUGE!) i think he needs his genitals checked! LOL
I love the Piaggio MP3 500, but in rainy conditions, I would definitely buy the SEAT Mii, which is about the same price. In southern cities, with better weather, I would definitely buy the Piaggio.
Look at the numbers. Search crash statistics. Motorcycles proven to be if not safer, as safe as their counterparts, cars. You may have a better protection at lower speeds, in traffic and such. But when it comes to high speed (over 100kmh) death ratios are lower on motorcycles. It's avoiding the crash in the first place. A skilled rider is more likely avoid the crash in the first place than a skilled driver. Don't believe me? Just do some research. The car companies don't want you to know about those but when you crash on a highway in a car you are more likely getting squished.
Motorcycles are like affordable fighter jets. Around the track, street, highway their speed and performance are many times higher than cars. An average motorcycle has the performance of an expensive sport, luxury, exotic car. All those things makes motorcycles are dangerous vehicle. The rider actually. Everyone can go fast. But not everyone can brake efficiently. Not everyone can do panic brakes. Mankind tend to like adrenaline, speed. But unfortunately only a few of the riders are aware of this HUGE responsibility. That is why motorcycles have such a bad reputation when it comes to safety. Stay safe.
wow , you are actually trying to sell the idea that a bike is safer than a car....that’s ridiculous...even the smallest car on earth is MUCH safer than a damn death trap motorcycle
Phil has hit the nail right on the head on electric cars. Turns it is more expensive to run a ev. And we are told to go electric!! I like the idea of ev's but they are hardly beneficial. Personally the onty reason I would go electric is purely because I am a big fan of piece and quiet
I have been watching these videos about the piagio and its nice, no 2 ways about it. It has clear benefits but for £6000 £1000 for a CBT(dont even think they are that expensive, £600 - £2000 for a reasonable 125cc scooter at the highest end your still half price for an average scooter. ok you cant go on motorways and some a roads but if you wanted too in 2 years you can go up to a full licence and still save money.
+chirito85 Yeah but you also need to pay for the gear, and have a workplace where you can get changed and store your (sometimes wet) gear, plus from personal experience when you do work in an office getting changed and rid of your helmet hair adds takes around 10-15 mins when you arrive, meaning any benefit through the odd lane splitting is more than negated. On the plus side though, here in Melbourne you can park almost anywhere for free on the pavement (although don't be a dick and do it so people have to squeeze past)
Little disappointed that he never mentioned the rain.. will he really come to work dry in the scooter? We are looking for a dry alternative for a bicycle (not another car), too bad the Twizy are too large for the bicycle roads.
A good option would be a used car which someone changed their mind on. I have seen tiny cars with 500 miles on the odo resale for $4000 under initial cost... (Full warranty transfer for $200)
Problem: Transportaition in city 1. Seat Mii -> Not a solution 2. Renault Twizy -> Not a solution 3. Piaggio MP3 -> Half a solution. Not using public transport is not the solution to better it. Crowded bus and subway networks puts pressure on government to make upgrades. But if you really don't want to use them, then use a bicycle.
t's a excellent car, but they should simple upgrade it. The doors without windows is really confusing. Why would 2 doors really needed if 1 door with windows could be so much better. Many people are also with their privacy stuffs and also when they are doing shopping, they can't carry with them along. And about the heating for the cold and even for cooling they could attach some solar system on the roof.
Phil, £50 a month to hire the batteries is a good deal. You would spend about the same if not more on petrol for Mii/MP3. £50 a month covers the batteries so if anything goes wrong, Renault will replace them at no extra charge. You should've gone for the Twizy!
+Tarik El-Yabani Yeah but you still need to pay for the power to charge the battery (that you are paying to rent). That said, the engine itself should be cheaper to service than the engine in the Yourban, as electric engines have fewer moving parts than petrols.
+Tarik El-Yabani Cobblers. Even these days, £50 is about 270 odd miles worth of petrol a month or a 13.5 mile roundtrip commute every weekday (even if you only average 30mpg), and that's before you pay for the electricity. If he could manage the 60mpg that the bike promised, it would be a 27 mile roundtrip. And if Renault want to make it £100 a month, you'll have to sit there and take it.
I am still completely baffled over this: “ The Twizy doesn’t feel safe”........ so what does he do.....he chooses the one that has no protection around you at all, a damn motorcycle
He was so negative towards Twizy from the beginning, open your mind a bit; how can you complain about the 2nd seat being small, did you try to sit in the back of the scooter? I don’t own a Twizy but in my opinion it’s a great city commuter.
Interesting comparison. Imo 1. The MP3; yeah, I can see the point in this but I'd sacrifice the stability and buy a Vespa. 2. The Twizy; A Smart car is so much cooler or an old BMW C1 is marginally less embarrassing 3. The Mii; It's absolute shite. Buy a Mk1 Ka or an R50 Mini for under a grand.
Here's something you obviously didn't know about trikes and quads, you don't actually have to wear a helmet with them, the law states that only motorcyclists have to wear a helmet so you could legally ride around without wearing a helmet.Renaults wisdom regarding the battery was flawed, because many people didn't buy them purely because of that wisdom. The car is just a car in the city really not worth bothering with. However if you wanted something for getting through traffic, then perhaps the mach1 electric scooter should be considered because it's quite a nice small scooter, I would place a link but youtube won't allow the link.So these mach1 scooters can be purchased for as little as £430 and you have to register them as mopeds but are quite fun to ride, the cheaper one's use gel acid batteries or you can get agm batteries or the more expensive ones are the lithium battery scooters at around £1200 but let's face it if we are looking for low cost easy to get around vehicles this is hard to beat.
legally or illegally ALWAYS WITH helmet ! you have no idea how easy is to beat with your head on the asphalt when you have a crush! ALWAYS WITH helmet !!!
Lyubov Lyuba Look when it comes to helmets they can cause more harm than good. You could find yourself with a broken neck for example due to the helmet twisting as you come off, no one gives a toss about that. Cyclists don't even by law have to wear a helmet yet many of them travel at speeds that exceed city motorised transport speeds, the speed limit is now mostly 20 mph so why are motorcyclists forced to wear a full on motorcycle helmet at 20 mph yet cyclists don't at any speed including them riding 30 mph or more down hill. Valid points. My point still stands tho. Not picking a certain vehicle because you don't feel safe driving it while instead going for a scooter... in UK with UK weather and drivers on the road...
I ride all year round in the UK... I actually don't need to wear my waterproofs very often... you would be surprised actually. A scoot is a great alternative to a car in the UK...

I would also. But common 6900£... There is not heating, no windows. I would buy it for no more than £4000. For 6900 I can buy used car.
i paid over 7k euros... worth every damn cent
:)
Telling people you don't feel safe in the Twizy but you feel ok on a normal bike , is BULLOCKS.

If twizzy go to south east asian countries, it will be a big hit, especially if you put solar panel to juicy up the electricity

Agreed. I'd go for mp3 too, the rest is just cars so stuck in traffic all the time.
The comments about the australian guy are more entertaining then this whole video :D
I do my daily 75 mile commute on a space hopper.
"The twizzy doesn't look safe" then proceeds to buy the motorcycle
Andrew Kristufek well said
Why involve one of the most boring men in London in such an interesting video?
exactly
Could always go back home. Would't have to worry about traffic in the bush, would you, Cobber?
At least with a motorcycle you can avoid dangers. Twizzy is dangerous for many of the same reasons with none of the benifits.
The Piaggio MP3= FUN non of the others provide.
IDK.. there's pros and cons to each one of those.
Depending on where you live, what do you want to do, each one is a good choice.

IMO, an old IT project manager isn't much of a benchmark to be honest :))
nice video!
i also prefer the Mp3 as one of the best vehicles for the city! :)
LOL, damage his reputation? His reputation as a grey haired bespeckled middle age old guy? Should have grown up by now :)
Steve Smith i'm 55 and been driving a smart for the last 8 years (3 cylinder cars for 28 years), i have no problem with it, and i'm in the states! (where cars and roads are HUGE!) i think he needs his genitals checked! LOL
You don't have to be young to have reputation. He is speaking the truth about that actually.
I love the Piaggio MP3 500, but in rainy conditions, I would definitely buy the SEAT Mii, which is about the same price. In southern cities, with better weather, I would definitely buy the Piaggio.
THE GUYS SAYS THE TWIZY ISNT SAFE AND HES JUST GOTTEN OFF A BIKE!

Trouble getting to work? Maybe one of these will help..
That look nice.
Just bought a MP3 250 as my first two wheeler (actually 3 wheeler I guess). Hopefully I don’t regret it

Slightly bemused that you would try to compare the 3 in this context.
3 trikes, 3 elec's, or 3 cars I could understand.
2020 Public transport in COVID times compared to scootering ? It`s a no brainer.
I'll take the Piaggio hands down... 1000 miles to the gallon hell yeah!!😜😜😜😜😂😂
Dacia Sandero?
Plot twist, they were advertising the piaggio all along.
Excellent 😮👍🏽

I got one, they're great fun on the road, like driving a go kart! Definitely try one if you ever get a chance!
oh i see, a scooter with 3 wheels is fine, but a twizy is fruity and people will laugh at you
He's Australian. Remember the First Rule.
dont talk about the fight club??
No, Monty Python stuff
JP3
Is there anything
Burgmanscooter
Interesting comparison. Imo 1. The MP3; yeah, I can see the point in this but I'd sacrifice the stability and buy a Vespa. 2. The Twizy; A Smart car is so much cooler or an old BMW C1 is marginally less embarrassing 3. The Mii; It's absolute shite. Buy a Mk1 Ka or an R50 Mini for under a grand.

ALWAYS WITH helmet !
you have no idea how easy is to beat with your head on the asphalt
when you have a crush!
ALWAYS WITH helmet !!!

But do commuter cars reduce traffic congestion, are commuters the solution to problems like traffic congestion and preventing accidents.
yh they dont
omg the 93 bus thats what i take
i have a Twizy and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooo mach safer than a bike !!!! and it Switzerland u can park it anywhere u want like a bike ! this guy only want it to show of his dump bike oh and i dont get wet when it rains take that lol
affordable.....6 grand to who the middle class
8:05 The Verdict

Silly person you....ARE..It was not meant for a comparison, as per say ,but options, that a commuter has for commuting
A silly comparison really - Apples and Oranges ?
whats the point of renault twizzy or seat mii get a golf and enjoy the driving piagio yes commuter thing
Nice 🙂
Somebody won't be buying a twizy any time soon...
£50 to rent batteries and that's only if you do no more than 4000 miles a year and good luck selling the car on.
Locking I ment

Piaggio... but driver is completely wet.
I'll bye the piaggio
That Phil guy sure is negative...
Honda PCX your choice - cheap in every way
😢
So the Twizy is unsafe and overpriced while in the glorified scooter you feel safe and is a great buy at just a grand under!?
You'll always get soaked thanks to UK weather...

should of replaced the seat car with the smart car.
That guy is a fool 😂😂
Twizy it is then
Does this guy want to get around or impress people? Smh
Or buy a decent 125cc scooter for £2k and save yourself another £4k.
Why is this fool wittering on about leasing a battery for £15 a month (thats only £180 a year), does he insist on paying for his petrol, servicing, car tax and insurance all upfront. Also why is this old git worried about his street cred.
he said it was £50 a month for the battery alone
The Piaggio would be my last choice by far
The scooter is a good idea only 60 miles to the gallon not that good get a CBF 125 and it'll do approximately 1:30 to the gallon .
Nur you Cant drive 125 can with a car licence
