From Thai people, I'm glad that everyone can try our Thai food, our curry food, usually we eat with rice, we don't eat soup like in the clip because the taste is too intense. If you try to eat it with rice, the taste will be very delicious and mellow.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that soup. Tom Kha Gai is delicious, and it's not particularly challenging unless someone just hates coconut milk for some reason. Maybe it wasn't prepared well?
(And seriously, if you can smell fish sauce in a dish, you've used too much of it.)
@@jasonblalock4429 I think they get it from restaurants local in the area, so it's totally possible that the prep was just not great.
I'd love to see Emmanuel go on a survival outing with Bear Grylls for a few days. I've been through survival training in the military. Once you get hungry enough you'll eat anything. I got less picky afterwards. I won't say he would, but I did.

I’m Thai, and I have to say that I don’t think you guys are having authentic Thai foods. Tofu is not originally Thai and tofu is not an ingredient in green curry.
As a Thai person, I have to agree.

I’m not Thai but I was thinking the same thing. I see tofu in a lot of American Thai dishes. I do really like tofu though to be honest there as well.
yeah its odd that this is all vegan versions of thai food and that pad thai looked very unlike any pad thai I've seen in thailand. I'm not thai but I've spent plenty of time in different regions with authentic food.
ohhh green curry... I've never had tofu in one, but I have had chicken and goddammit you just made me hungry for green chicken curry.

I didn’t realize how polarizing Thai food is. I’ve always loved essentially all of it.
As Thai, we never drink our tofu sauce, it means to dip it. Girl!
Original Pad Thai use special noodles called "Sen-chan" (means noodles from chantaburi province) which is more soft but flexible than normal rice noodles, a little bit expensive prices from usual, fired with egg, tofu, Chinese pickle and small shrimp. I hate when people put chicken or pork in our pad thai but big prawn is the must, river prawn is even better but as an lot more price to pay.
One more thing, we eat soup, Tom yum or tom kha kai with rice only, it is not Western soup. Then the bland and a little bit sweet of rice will complement it. And we always has a set of meal not a soup with rice. Normally 3-4 dishes with rice. We called "kub kao" [(eat) with rice] and if you're skillful enough, you will know which dish get along with which one i.e. gang som (another sour and spicy soup) will go well with Thai omelet. Their flavour complimentary each other and you should have at least other dish as fried veggy with some protein.
Anyway, hope one day you guys can fly to our country to enjoy more! Thanks for introduce our food to the world.

Pad Ka-Prao Moo Kao Dai (Stir-fried minced pork with holy basil or Thai basil with a fried egg on top) with rice is one of the better Thai dishes. Another favorite is Pad See Ew. Nam Tok (Waterfall Steak?) with rice.

Thai green curry should have kaffir lime leaves in it, not bay leaves....though I can see why they might be mistaken. I just hope those are kaffir lime leaves. They usually use the zest of the kaffir limes, in the curry past as well. Also...you usually don't eat the kaffir lime leaves...though I've swallowed a few.
whole leaves are used in the paste, too, and many dishes are dressed with fresh diced leaves. it's just whole leaves that tend to be pretty tough.
lmao my dad (hes white) used to eat a spoon full of kaffir lime leaves whenever my mom made green curry 😂😭 like ive never seen thai people eat it like he has its sometimes highly disturbing 😂
They are perfectly edible. I've used some softer ones and I enjoy eating them in curries. In some dishes, they are finely chiffonade and are soooooo much easier to eat.
actually we don't put kaffir lime leaves in green curry. the regular veggie to put in are holy basil, Thai chili and Thai eggplant.
I do eat kaffir lime leaves in Green curry though. 😅
But only green curry with chicken meat and blood chunk would have put the kaffir lime leaves in.

This was one of the most enjoyable Try videos in a while. Granted they are all good, but for some reason this one was exactly what I needed. And props to Seán - great job! :D
One of my favorite features of this channel is observing the dynamics of the pairings and the contrast of the pairings. Jamie impressed me for defying the general rule that pairs tend to form a consensus and will often develop a similar attitude to the challenge (e.g., very positive, very negative, blasé); the stronger personality often sets the tone, and the other agrees. However, Jamie remained enthusiastic even though Emmanuel was very displeased. Moreover, Jamie found humor in Emmanuel's reactions and made the best of the experience.

When I went to Thailand I used to love walking out and getting pad Thai with chicken and shrimp, spicy with egg rolls for breakfast 😋 mm or chicken soup if I was hung over lol

I can seriously eat Thai curry noodles five times a week, and my local place serves it to me at the extra hot level reserved for regulars.
This was fun to watch. I’m glad you guys mostly enjoyed Thai food (I agree that the pad Thai would have tasted better with egg in it). Don’t worry too much about what dishes should or should not be eaten with rice. As long as you enjoy it - that’s what really matters. Thais are not precious about how we should eat our food - it’s there to be shared and enjoyed. 🙂🙏🏽

We always eat all soup with rice. And just so you know in Thailand tofu isn't popular. But I quite surprise when I see lots of youtubers choose tofu instead of sa-tay or fish cake which is more Thai traditional appetizer.

There are not many dishes in Thailand that use peanuts. I lived there for the past 20 years. For some reason, the few dishes which do contain them are the ones which have been exported to the US.
@@johndusit Well from what I heard, Thailand doesn't really have that many dishes in the first place (relative to other cultures/countries).
I was born, raised, been in Thailand my whole life I literally can’t think of any dish with peanut besides Pad thai and the chicken satay dipping. 🤔 I bet my life on the reason people know us as “a peanut obsession” country would be funny 😂

I'm really happy that they are trying the food, even when they really don't want to.
We also use a lot of herbs cause it helps with the flavour but it's also healthy. Some you can eat but some herbs you can't eat

To call แกงเขียวหวาน or แกงเผ็ด in English starting with "curry" is absolutely No No misleading. It's chilli+herbs paste never any curry powder.
totally agree! I taught in Thailand for 5 years and can second that.
Fact: We always eat Thai food with rice so eat rice with Tom Kha Gai It's pretty normal but we just don't put it in the soup we eat it together

Thank's fpr chipping in with an authentic cultural reference. I'm American, but I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants (shout out to _Thai Bros_ in Laguna Beach) and these dishes looked second-rate, at best. Thai food in Ireland apparently is not top-shelf.
You are right. And why not have some Isaan or Northern food? This is why all westerners think Thai food is just green curry and pad Thai. So boring!
