Mia Goth deserves her Oscar for that 8 minute monologue and the ending scene the way her emotion switched from smiling to teary
Give her an Oscar for breathing as well!
It goes on for 10 minutes actually, I timed it last night, lol. But yeah, 8 minutes of it is a single take. She blows my mind away in this film. Crushed me like an egg.
Of course she was teary she didn’t blink.
@@balabanasireti oh cmon, she literally deserves one in this movie
@@balabanasireti from her work in “X” to these movie !! Holy shit she well win an Oscar someday ❤❤ 🏆
Mia goth gave one of the best performance this year! Her sobbing scene and 9 minutes monologue really made me feels sorry and scared all at once
I was terrified when I heard that monologue.
She’s just so so good 😍😍😍
her accent is distracting, not the most convincing attempt... and the fact she looks identical to Maxine without doing any subtle changes to jawline or cheeks or nose (a lá Charlize Theron in Bombshell) is lazy as too much of Mia Goth shows thru and not enough Pearl. she shouldn't look physically identical in the face to Maxine. it's just lazy.
Omg I loved that scebe !
@@horrorjunkie96 that's literally the point, pearl sees herself in maxine. Maxine thinks shes going to be a star (like pearl) and is probably going to end up like pearl (or some twisted version of it), that's obviously the purpose of them both being Mia Goth...
Okay, but let's not forget that Mia Goth wrote half of the script, and producing it as well along with director Ti West.
Yes, the script is so good, and it seems like Ti West is getting all of the praise for it even though it was a joint effort.
@@FumbleAIBOfr Ti West is a great mastermind!
I'm so happy good QUALITY horror is coming back. I couldn't handle another copy and paste like we had for most of the 2010s. Good stories are being written and directed again and I'm skool beyond happy. Looks like X and Pearl are on their way to becoming staples for years to come.
~~~~~yyyeeeeeesssssss~~~~~
and maXXXine on the way!!
Using new faces!
I cannot be the only person who adores the music in the opening
The 🎶 Music is Beautiful 📀
Hermann beautifully referenced.
NO YOU'RE NOT, I'M IN LOVE TOOOOOO
THANK YOU YES
Have it on my Playlist to this very day
I'll never forget when I saw this. I was the only one in the theater and it was the first time I'd been back since before the pandemic. When the music swelled in the opening shot I was moved to tears! I felt like I was lifted out of my seat :')
yo same i was high af and utterly transfixed
being the only one in the cinema watching this must’ve been terrifying lol
Watching this feels like I am in my childhood again watching wizard of oz but a darker version. Everything, the font style, the oversaturated cinematography, the film style, and the acting are just really top tier.
Tyler Bates' score to Pearl sounds a lot like those classic old movies like Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins. The designs of the opening titles are a lot like those opening titles in those films of the 1940s and the 1950s.
Maybe it has to do with the beautiful arrangements of the orchestrators too. Someone listened to Vertigo and Marnie.
The monologue of Mia Goth near the end of the film was outstanding. The German mother's monologue about duty through misery also hit hard. These characters were conflicted, and we saw their dark and light aspects, making them relatable. This movie brought me back to the theaters after years of not seeing anything appealing. I was the only one in the theater and what a treat this movie was.
The part where she talks about waking up in the night and knowing that this is it, this is the youngest and prettiest she will ever be and that it is still not enough... man, for women that hits hard on so many levels. The writing is superb.
If only they had cast an actress who speaks german properly.
Honestly people sympathyzing with pearl on the internet kinda creep me out. Yall need help.
@@saumyavig8964 , honestly, people posting stupid feeb remarks like yours on the internet kinda make me sad. You need a brain 🤣
@@saumyavig8964 I sympathize with her (and the mother) to an extent. They’re both basically stuck in a miserable life.
this probably gonna be the best horror film this year, mia goth insanely did that, she deserves an oscar for this movie
You obviously have not seen Barbarian.
@@jeremiahcherry5283 Barbarian was mid. Tone all over the place. Story made no sense. It was fun, I’ll say that.
i didn't see yet, but along the 2022 pearl still best horror
@@Trunks252JM it had potential, it was good at first then was kinda whack at the end
X and Barbarian were better
Martin Scorsese describing this as a "demented Disney movie" got me super excited to see it.
3:53 Mia Goth's acting in this scene is so great it's like i'm watching a darker version of a Disney movie.
Mia Goth was an absolute horror queen in this movie and in X. We need to see more of her in darker movies because she plays these roles so well.
The ending of the movie where she was smiling and then crying had me dead 😂 Ti West definitely deserves awards for these movies.
He’s making another one with Mia called “MaXXXine” cannot wait!
Have you seen high life? Even darker imo!
@@connorm2035 I think it will be set 50 years after X.
@@andrewbowman4010 Actually, it'll be sets in 1985.
X - 1979
Pearl - 1910s
MaXXXine - 1985
Besides the incredible performance of Mia, do you notice how wonderful is the sound design/soundtrack of this movie?
Simply 💐 BEAUTIFUL 🎥
Superb 🎶
She deserves an oscar for the monologue and that ending scene!!
Took that from me didn't ya ? Lol but she does really ❤️ girl is gold
Hell yeah she does, I mean just look at the range of roles she had in X and Pearl. Playing two characters and making them all seem so different and independent from each other takes some actual skill I would imagine.
EVERYTHING DESERVES AN OSCAR NOW
No she doesn’t. Relax lol
But unfortunately because the academy doesn't acknowledge horror movies she won't get one
A very artistically inclined horror movie. Mia Goth deserves an oscar for that monologue as well as that very last scene. WOW.
One of the best movies of the year! I really enjoyed X, but this was something else. Great work from all involved, especially Mia Goth. That monologue! That ending! Cannot wait to see what Maxxxine will be like
It wasn't even a very good film; far less one of the best 🤣🤣🤣
I went to see this on a whim. Had no expectations. When I left I HAD TO FIND X. Then my date turned me in to A24. Subscribed a month ago. Keep this up in Hollywood. So good.
What a fucking tear-inducing opening shot. There will never be another film like Pearl again. Instant classic.
this movie was so good ESPECIALLY to see in theaters
One of the greatest cinematic monologues I've seen in a while, the film itself was a terrific slow burn. Ti West & Mia Goth is a perfect match!
Great movie. The film's photography nailed with the old times aura
This movie was fantastic. Totally didn't expect it to be anything special but I was glued the whole time.
Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!
One of my favourite horror movies FOREVER! Mia Goth blew me away 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 the monologue, the deaths, the ending scene - pure madness and fresh horror. Love the colors, the depth, EVERYTHING!!! Can't wait for Maxxxine
5:41 that music 😍
My friend and I saw "Pearl" before seeing "X" and I was blown away by Mia Goth's performance as both young and old Pearl. She commands your attention as her internal pendulum swings between sweet and unstable. Loved the music, the cinematography, the originality of the concept, and I bet this works really well as a Double Feature. The only question is which order do you watch them in?
Honestly, I kinda enjoyed X more knowing about Pearl's backstory and such. Especially when we find out that Howard still lives with Pearl in the '70s.
Same, I really liked X but it was a whole different experience rewatching it after seeing Pearl, there's so much more depth.
I love this movie sooooo much. A fantastic horror film, deeply human, tragic, disturbing, violent and magic. Mia Goth did an extraordinary achievement with her performance.
HER NAME SUITS THIS CHARACTER SOOOO MUCH
Who is her name
@@panpinkofficial mia goth
can’t believe she didn’t get a oscar for this movie
IKR she deserves it
Bought the blu ray and watched it for the first time after keeping myself blind from it for months. Absolutely amazing horror! Mia Goth is phenomenal
I remember coming out of X thinking this ‘Pearl’ had to been a joke/fake trailer. -Now I ended up enjoying and loving ‘Pearl’ way more than I did X.
I literally just watched Toby Hooper's Eaten Alive so I love this homage to her feeding the croc or gator.
The gator's name in Pearl is Theda. I don't know if the filmmakers confirmed if the gator in X is the same female. It is highly possible, since gators live for a long time.
This was one of the best, most unique, and artistically brilliant movies I've seen all year. Props to Mia Goth, the direction, cinematography, and the MUSIC
I love her face when Mr. Goose walks in 😂😂😂😂
It's about then you start to wonder why there are so many saddles in that barn, but no horses 😦
One of the best movie soundtracks I’ve ever heard!!!! You guys made the perfect movie!!
The best opening in cinematic horror movie history in Pearl
i just love the color grading of this film
This movie and the joker are exactly the same with the exact same main character. But this one executes it better in my opinion. Fantastic movie
she make a prequel even better than the original. brilliant. shes so hauntingly unconventionally beautiful im a new huge fan.
She would be an amazing Wendy for The Shining. She could also be Jessie in a live action Toy Story.
Movie of the year, not even debatable.
that transition alone deserves an oscar and a grammy
Mia Goth deserves an Oscar for lots of reasons, thanks to this movie, her role and her phenomenal all around acting. However, in my opinion, they will not give her an Oscar because of pseudointellectuals, elitists and snobs in Hollywood and film industry, looking down at horror genre, thinking it does not deserve the spotlight.
This would be awesome to see in B&W. A lot of the cinematography was old school cinema
I do disagree. Especially since this was a clear homage to the technicolor films of the late 30’s and into the 40’s with it’s vibrant color scheme.
I believe Mia Goth stated in an interview that the original pitch for Pearl was in black and white but they felt going in the technicolor/demented disney vibe was better.
@@lukemanning7994 you’re so smart luke
@@lukemanning7994 a mix of b&w would be great. like the movie blonde
Well Ti West originally wanted to shoot the film in Black & White, but I'm glad they went with the technicolor instead
Just watched it last night. One of the most disturbing films I've ever seen. Mia deserves all the awards.
this was such an experience to witness in theaters :) loved every bit !
cinematic perfection 😭❤️
Yo man....leeeeee bia buaaa
Mia Goth has never acted better in her life. In X she shone as the atypical heroine with a dark side. In Pearl she's fully manic and sad and lonely and it comes across so strongly in her acting. The whole tone shift perfectly matches how Pearl views the world and her character within it. She so badly wants to be the lovely heroine but the worm at the center of her rotten apple will not let her.
so easily my favorite movie to come out this year let alone within A24... this was a masterpiece and mia goth is a legend
She´s got that Shelley Duvall vibe
Saw Pearl today (came out in the UK only a few days ago) and it is a masterpiece. Mia Goth was mesmerising and fantastic. Shame this film had no nominations. A fantastic movie!!!
Absolutely love the music at the beginning
This is one of those slasher films with the set design and performances I will never forget that I watched them
I was watching this film in theaters and when I saw mr.goose get stabbed I swear to god my mom was demanding justice for it
"Pearl" is a GEM!
Mia Goth deserves the Oscar for this movie. Weather it's for 5 min long monologue or last painful smile in credits.
The way the mother burst through the door..lol😆
I loved Pearl!!!🪓⭐️my favourite scene was when she was shouting at that poor man “NO!!! Why ARE YOU LEAVING ME! I thOught YOU LIKED ME!!!” Incredible acting from Mia Goth. And when she was screaming “I’m a STAR!!!!” At the the audition and the audition number!!! Gosh I just loved every moment of this film😍🤩
The music for this movie was absolutely stunning
Pleaaasseee release this is Australia soon!!!
Both X and Pearl were fantastic films! Can't wait for MaXXXine!
Mia Goth changed my life
I absolutely love this and X. I can't wait for Maxxxine!
Just watched X last night, can't wait to watch this next!
'X' was just fine, but I didn't expect 'Pearl' to be as good as it is.
Agreed, X was a very good horror film, but Pearl is on another level entirely. Mia Goth's performance is extraordinary.
Mia Goth deserves get an Oscar. crossing my fingers.
Yall need to realese these scores on vinyl!!!! With an Awesome album cover
Awesome**
@@Tomboyy9818 aak thanks, my bad 🙏🏼
I have no idea what's going on, but I am happy to be here!
A24 scores again. She needs to be Oscar nominated for her performance
Dunno about X but Pearl is one of my favourite movie of all time, its so good, so perfect for me and what I love and enjoy, really happy.
Our Carrie for 2023 👌
A24 does incredible work
this has kind of become a comfort movie for me
Why does this trailer sound like we are watching the entire film at some point!!
Was disappointed with Halloween Ends, so I watched Pearl to make up for it and I loved Pearl!
Same here -- HEnds just felt like another visit to the well, while Pearl is so wildly original.
This actress was amazing in "X".
Beside all the acting talent, the score is also epic!
I’m mad they took it out of my local theater now I have to wait until it comes out on digital
same!
It's on soap2day now
WE NEED TO KNOW THE FONT USED IN THE MOVIE
Funniest thing is when I streamed this movie from my fire stick I thought I had a German copy and would have to read subtitles for the whole movie and was about to exit the video and search for another link, I got distracted by something and heard Pearl speak English just before I stretched my finger towards the exit button.
😂😂I thought I clicked on the wrong language video
Iconic introduction
Going into this movie blind will have someone thinking that this is gonna turn into a musical where Pearl starts breaking into song like she's some Disney Princess with animal friends.
Boy, did the director give a huge middle finger to that....
This film and its soundtrack has potential to become a horror ballet. Groundbreaking
I love this movie so much ❤ I like her "I'm just a sweet girl-batshit crazy" 😂 And I don't see anyone playing thus role better then her!
I would have really loved to have seen this in the UK. If not in the cinema then hopefully on disc, streaming or digitally soon.
Amazing. Just amazing. Sometimes she looks like lolita and snow white and the wizard of oz. Fucked up and i love it.
I can't get enough of this film! I love the music. The cinematography. My god, the acting, Mia Goth KILLS it in this movie ❤🪓
R.I.P Mr. Goose
The ending scene is pinnacle of acting.
Mia Goth did amazing and I really wanted to love this movie but it just didn't feel like it was fleshed out enough. I remember feeling like "That's it?" When the end credits started rolling.
Great performance by Mia.
The beautiful score in this preview reminds me of CHAPLIN soundtrack, which is another movie that I love. I think Ti West released two masterpieces this year!!!
the cinematography is amazingg
lmao in this intro in the theaters they were teenagers up in the back verbally fighting and telling each other to shut up, i had one of those great interactive theaters, everyone was gaspin or screamin
I really loved X. Hope this will be equally good.
I am dying waiting for this to come out on blu-ray!
I seen it only onnce in theatres and once wasn't enough.
Best actress performance in cinema history!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oscar-worthy performance by Mia!
Mia deserves the Oscar
I'm amazed at how many people believe "bad", "sucks", "not bloody enough", etc, are objective facts rather than subjective opinions. If you want predictable plotlines, gratuitous gore for the sake of it, two dimensional characters, cgi monsters, tired/outdated tropes, cheesy jump scares, and being led like a child through a film, this one is not for you. From what I'm seeing in the comments, many people think the criteria for a horror film are everything listed above, ad nauseam. If these tenets are what is important to a person, they obviously have preconceived notions of what they want to experience before going in. In that case, I would suggest staying with mainstream horror, because this is not it. I like this film for the same reason I like The Shining - Many said it was boring, too slow, not really a horror movie when it debuted, but all these years later, it is regarded as a cinematic masterpiece. This is not a corny slasher movie, but rather a deep, psychological interpretation of isolation and despair through the lens of war abroad, a paranoid society due to a pandemic, loneliness, delusions of grandeur, and severe dysfunction. Can anyone relate with that? If not, these last two years must have been Disneyland for you. This is not a blood and guts movie, made for sadistic teenagers. It is a psychological, introspective mindf*ck that really requires a mature understanding of what makes people do what they do and why they do it. Again, if you want b-movie payoffs and a plot that does your thinking for you, beware, because this one isn't for you. It's a character study and a damn creepy one. I love it, but that doesn't make it objectively "good." Put on your big boy pants for this one, or go watch something else that contains things that people have already seen.
And Mia improvised the ending, so do what you will with that.
Love the shudder of the text to resemble old Hollywood.
