Great video, as usual! Just a quick note from the characters around 2:45 Historically, there is a distinction between pre-imperial schools of thought 家 (jia), as opposed to a broader "learning/teachings" 教 (jiao). As an example, for Taoism, the "School of the Dao" 道家 (daojia) refers to pre-imperial texts such as the Laozi, Zhuangzi and so on. But if one wants to refer to a broader "Taoist Teachings", including imperial and contemporary texts and practices, then it is written 道教 (daojiao). Same goes for Confucianism: the "School of Academics" 儒家 (rujia) for pre-imperial texts (Confucius, Mencius, Xunzi, etc.) and the "Teachings of the Academics" 儒教 (rujiao) for the entirety (+ Sima Qian, Dong Zhongshu, Zhu Xi, etc.) As Buddhism only arrived in China during the imperial Han Dynasty, it is preferable to write Buddhism as "Buddhist Teachings" (佛教 fojiao). The stance "School of the Buddha" (佛家 fojia) can have a political connotation, as in stating that Buddhism is historially on equal grounds to the other pre-imperial schools (家 jia), and as such is as legitimate to the Chinese cultural and intellectual tradition. Such legitimation tactic based on (historically-inacurate) ancient relevance was used by many religious sects whose cosmological elements or teachings were inspired by buddhist elements. (Such "sectarian tradition" can also be seen in some New Ageish Chinese religious movements from the 1980-90's). (I've also seen 家 jia and 教 jiao being used to differentiate intellectual from religious thought, but quite frankly such separation is alien to how these terms were used. Russell Kirkland has discussed this conceptual aspect regarding Taoism.)

There is a 'virtue' called "mertlik or erlik/er kün" in steppe. Its translated "manhood or bravery" but its not compare to describe this term exacly. To explain, basicly "mertlik, erlik/er kün" says "if someone dont tell lie and speak truths, then he is a "mert guy or er kişi/er khün" and you cant kill or punish him like a dishonored or guilty man. This is so important virtue among steppe people. You can say "No" even to Khan, if its true. There is a saying in Mongolian, Turkish and Tungusic "be an 'er kişi/khün' and demand my live as a sacrifice for you". This culture was founded on this code. Kind a chivalry but not only for a group but whole nation.

no, he is dead. it does not make him alive when his name stands in history books or people talk about him for 50.000 years. His body has become earth. He also does not live in his descendants, he just passed genes he got from his parents, no one continues to live via his descendants, they are different people, even his direct descendant ogodei and grandson kublai were different than Genghis. Having this or that character feature or this and that bodily similarity does not make them Genghis. Genghis Khan perished the day he made his last breath.

LONGEVITY THRU TAOISM is total scam, apparently. Also, some translation of Chinese terms should be mentioned here:
    1. the name of this sect is QUAN ZHEN (perfect & true, or perfectly true, or truly perfect, depending on comprehension).
    2. the title of Qiu Chuji is Chang-chun Zi, "the Ever Spring One", "Spring" is fugurative for Youth, thus Ever Spring is a term for Longevity.

Of course it's a scam. Everyone dies, even the universe itself is dying. Most of the stars that we can see (with telescopes) actually don't exist anymore: they disappeared millions of years before their light reached the Earth. The sun itself will explode. This entire universe will disappear. The Creator created the Universe with an expiration date. That is the mystery of our existence. Nothing is eternal in this universe. The only eternal lies beyond.

I thought Taoist sages only existed in Chinese paintings sitting in a reed hut or flying across the sky in a trance. It's kinda weird how this old, classical Chinese reality from the 6th century BC suddenly found itself transplanted in Samarkand and Afghanistan. Genghis Khan really brought separate worlds together, not just by conquest but by active stimulation of cultural exchange.

I just add some follow-up about Buddhism - Taoism conflict in Khublai's time.
Before Khublai confirmed Buddhism as NO.1 religion of the Great Yuan Empire, he invited Buddhist scholars and Taoist to argue. The Buddhists, influenced by its debate tradition since Buddhism came into being in India, easily beat Taoists.
BTW, the head of Buddhism scholars in that debate is Drogön Chogyal Phagpa from Tibet. Phagpa convinced Prince Koden, son of Ögedei Khan and grandson of Genghis Khan, to make Tibet as part of the Empire peacefully and accept Tibetan Buddhism. And when Khublai became the emperor of Yuan dynasty, Phagpa also became "帝师",meaning Imperial Preceptor. In today's China, this part of history is regarded as the first time Tibet became an inseparable part of China.
