I don't even know the story/universe that this goes to, but in a way that enhances it. I'm being sung a song about cosmic mysteries, histories I've never heard, alien hives I've never met, and gambles I don't understand, sung in words I don't know, from a land that I'm not from. It's so haunting and captivating and strange, and I could listen to it for hours. Also, what genre is the music? I know the music is filk, but the sound is a type of noise I don't think I've heard before, and I really like it.
I also heard the song first and loved it, but it's even better when you've also read the book. It's old enough and from a classic enough author that there's a fair chance your local library has it or can get it on an interlibrary loan. Serpent's Reach isn't a bad entry point for the setting. It stands alone and doesn't rely on anything else and nothing else relies upon it.

Never read the book and I couldn't make out some words, so make any corrections you can. Now I have seen the madness gleaming in the serpent's eye And that is what I've come to you to tell. I've assembled my playlist with your HQ versions so now I can happily share my weird music taste with all my poor friends.
poor as in money or poor as in “now they have to listen to my music?”
Awesome! I've been listening to the low-quality version for years. Glad to hear it in its original quality.

Now I have seen the madness gleaming in the serpent's eye
And that is what I've come to you to tell.
For the queen of blue hive told me when I called to her to die,
When I made her send my enemies to hell.

With slow death all that I could see ahead
