    Watching Simon's videos really helped me pick up this technique. One thing that I find really helps with my fluidity and consistency: imagine that instead of tremolo plucking two side-by-side strings, you're actually tremolo picking a single fat string that is as wide as the two strings you're trying to pluck.
    For whatever reason this mindset informs my wrist/arm how far it needs to go as it flicks back and forth, and causes me to naturally hover my wrist pivot point dead-center between the two strings, which gives me a lot of consistency in the timing of the two note tremolo picking.
    Not sure why, but I find this allows me to tremolo pick with a lot of different attack styles. I used to need to heavily angle my pick edge, use a super smooth extra heavy pick, and make tense robotic motions to get any luck, but now I can pull it off pretty easily, pick angled or flat, playing lightly or even really digging in while tremolo picking.

    You've been one of the only Guitarists for Black/Death metal who cover alot of basic necessities in order to help others reach their goals.
    Thank you and keep your Content up!
    Also, if you end up doing another collab video, I recommend doing it with Farvann! He's got some good techniques!

    Why does this not have more views? I don't play black metal but have been trying to get this technique down for years, and I have made more progress in the last few weeks after watching this than ever before.

    In additon to tremolo picking this finally got me to sit down and properly practice bar chords, something I had long avoided. Thanks for the lesson and picking exercise!

    That's good advice. I too found out that the forearm should be able to rotate freely - most of the movement comes from that rotation, and isn't too different from strumming a regular chord. Then it's just a mater of counting the subdivisions.

    the special of Mr Smith is he did focused the black n death metal music to be played by his subscribers or viewers. He teached a lot and the reason I put him on the top of the greatest teacher because he always make lessons for every black or death metal music..

    Great tips brother, you are the man! I have also found it useful to increase my string gauges to much thicker ones, I like the way the increased tension feels when tremolo picking more than one string

    • @SteelSkin667
      @SteelSkin667 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'd suggest to reduce the angle of your pick from the strings - hold it slightly more parallel to the string. That being said, having some amount of pick noise isn't a bad thing in most cases.

    • @Famished_
      @Famished_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteelSkin667 does it get lost in the mix a little?

    • @Famished_
      @Famished_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteelSkin667 And the angle helps a lot but on high strings it gets really annoying.

    • @SteelSkin667
      @SteelSkin667 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Famished_ You might have to adjust the position of your arm or of the guitar, or even where you pick along the string to where it's more comfortable for you. You can look at what Simon's doing in the video for reference, but everyone's body is a bit different.
