This is pretty much what I needed to know. There is a similar product, the TrackIR, which tracks your headmovements, but not the eyes. At first I was wondering if they would work in conjunction, but now I realise that the Tobii ET5 has the head tracking as well. Awesome. Thanks for posting, mate. That's a great review. Actually, the TrackIR is more expensive, and doesnt seem to have the same features or game support. This review just killed any thoughts of buying one.
With the IR tracker, you have to attach a transmitter to some headphones on your head too, which is no good if you don't wear headphones, with tobii no transmitter on your head is required. For in a small cockpit, like a flight shooter sim, the ir tracker is slightly more accurate, but for driving/racing sims i find the tobii better. Cheers
Hi Wombat, Thanks for this video it was a great help. Yes the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 is a bit expensive but I got one, (Thank you Father Christmas in advance) and it's made ETS2 even better than it was. Just about got the set up how I want it. Once again a BIG Thank you Wombat.
Great review on this Wombat. Yes it is expensive and I agree with you that it should have been around 160/80 eros rather than 220e. But I wanted something that is easy to set up and to be able to play ETS/ATS withot having to wear a headset, so I bit the bullet and ordered the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, which should make playing both these sims so much easier than having to use the mouse to look left and right from inside the cab. Maybe it will come down in price as better models come on the market, but that is the same with all hi tech software. I play both games quite a lot as well as Farm Simulator 2019 which it also supports, so I suppose it was worth buying for the amount of use it will get. As a retired truck driver, ETS/ATS certainly is as realistic as it gets compared to being behind the wheel of a real truck. Great channel Wombat and happy trucking. Geoffersh
I agree with you completely. As I mentioned to you in the past, my 4c has been sitting in the closet since a couple of months after purchase. I'm happily back on my Trackir with no issues. Tobii would have to do a "trade in" LOL for me to even consider the "5"!!!
Cheapest I could get one new was $540 Australian dollars. If you spend hours a day every day playing ETS2 like I do, then it's worth every cent. It makes the game alot more realistic feeling, and looking about while driving and parking so much easier. 10/10 from myself. Good review, cheers.
In-game ATS controls: x-box controller/mouse-keyboard/tobii5, yet no response from head movements. i went through the set-up attempting to mount tobii on top of the monitor, it will not detect me, after a few retries, mounted it on the bottom, where the monitor power button is located. I wish tobii could detect a wider fov for top mount support, i hope it doesn’t become a paperweight
I spend 35€ on Delans Headtracking. Seems to be the way better deal here. Completely satisfied and the horizontal movement is much bigger, so you can even use it with things like a flight simulator. Thx for the video Wombat (and thx for saving me money ☺)
Anyone using the Eye Tracker 5 with a Samsung G9, which is mounted on a SIM rig? I'm thinking of buying an Eye Tracker 5 but I want to mount it on my G9, which is mounted on my SIM rig, which means there's no table or monitor stand/foot to mount the Eye Tracker on. Also, I'm on Windows 11. Anyone have issues with Eye Tracker 5 and Windows 11?
MSFS 2020 now has Tobii built in or it recognises the tracker and it works brilliantly. As you said, it is pricey, it cost me £259 from Amazon, I've only had it a few days and have tried it perched on a Saitek flight panel or my Velocity One Flight yoke, it works very well. I haven't attached the bracket or metal mounting plates yet to my 55in TV as if I return it I want Amazon to be able to resell it and at least it won't look used.
I had to Re-calibrate my ET5 after my first time because I didn't have my headset on. Putting my headset on threw it off and it couldn't tell I was moving my head. Default settings are a good starting point but everyone will have to tweak them to their liking. Also it doesn't like a stationary Mic between your face and the Sensor bar.
Yes you can see 4 faintly glowing red lights. That's how it operates using infrared. If you mount it in the recommended place at the bottom of the monitor you don't even notice the lights. It should be below your direct field of view.
Can you switch it on and off? So that you'll be using it only when you want? I would like to drive for most of the time without it working and switching it on when i want to look around.
I could. But I dont have to when using other head trackers. Granted, these other head trackers uses IR but considering how expensive this device is, we should be entitled to a better solution over time.
Hi thank you for the very informative video. In ETS2 I use the look back a lot when reversing, can you tell me is it possible to turn your head to look back but still see the monitor to watch where you are going?
You really need to replace it? Theres a HUGE difference in how the 4c works on 1.38 and how it used to work on 1.37 so if you still haven't upgraded, Id recommend you do that first. With that said, ET5 has much better head tracking due to the new camera on front. I think the eye tracking capabilities are the same for both devices. Dont take my word for it tho but it do feel like its the same.

I have since bought a tobii eye tracker 5, and it really is worth it. That said, if you dont mind those compromises, the delanclip is great.
Great video. I have used the TrackIr 5. This is old technology. I hate it. Having to wear a hat to clip the sensor, what a bother. Another thing is how badly affected by the lighting in the room, sun light from the window. I have had to build a black background to deal with this issue. I am hoping that the Tobii 5 I won’t have to worry about these issues. If you have comments about these issues please write back. Thanks for the informative video.
It doesn’t matter if you have a flat or curved display, ET5 can be mounted regardless. Your monitor is curved both at the bottom (and upwards) and to the sides?
@@WombatTrucker Yes i have curved screen but also i have whole simrig bottom frame is just behind my wheel and on the page they say that it cant be mounted on top :(
Great video - thanks a lot for explaining how it works with ATS, since that would be my main reason for getting one. The vertical tracking range is pretty dissapointing though - is this something you dictated in your preferential settings, or is it just not that good for vertical tracking movements? Also can you get a cover for the lens? I always hate having camera lenses pointed at me - you never know what it could be doing, or what someone could do with an exploit / hack.
Hi Wombat, many thanks for this honest review. Especially your assumption of a worth price is very interesting, i personally assume that for many of us "ets2 and ats truckers in part time" the hurting mark would be be a little lower (mine would be more in the area of 149€). There will be some Pros (Fulltime Streamers) but that are only a few, compared to the engaged part time truckers. If there is no massive price movement in the right direction i would spend the money in other hardware. I cannot understand tobii so far: selling 10 pcs for 229€ vs. selling 1000 pcs. for 149€. I think the pure material and labour costs around 30€ (I'm working in electronic production and we do 80% of the production in Germany SMD, THT, Assembly, Customizing and Testing) A much more reasonable Price would increase the market dramatically. So in that assumption 2290€-300€=1990€ vs. 149000€-30000€=119000€, even if you only assum e a lever of 10 times its 14900€-3000€=11900€. Yes of course the earning per piece is lower, but the total earning per period is higher. I'm curious to see what tobii's reaction to your video is. Yes a really good piece of shit, but not appropriated priced. i can second this conclusion
Thank you! I guess there’s several shooters that could benefit from roll come to think of it. I’ve been doing trains, plains and automobiles for too long to think out of the box 😂
To be fair, TrackIR supports a lot of games but it's almost all older games. Only 6 titles have been added officially according to their list and the others are all very old titles and mostly dead titles for multiplayer games. (Sure for truckers and flight sim users, this doesn't matter.) The Eyetracker is the only thing that sets it apart since other genres (like Assassins Creed) use just the gaze feature. With FaceTrackNoIR (paid third party but still) you can use the Tobii (with their official plugin) with all the other TrackIR games which are unsupported by Tobii (it basically pretends to be TrackIR.)
This is true but among these older games there are many that are still used today. Assetto Corsa and Dovetails Train Simulator are two examples I use myself. FaceTrackNoIR is one way to make broader use of the ETx devices once the support has been fully implemented. It’s still in development as of version 200. But since cost is the only thing that really prevents me from fully recommending ET5, Maybe a better solution would be for Tobii to implement support for additional protocols so that free software, opentrack or freetrack for instance, could be used. As I try to explain in the video, the slightly limited support for games compared to devices such as TrackIR is just a minor complaint. My main concern is the price.
the supported screensizes seems a bit dodgy to me(for the eyetracking), usually the range is 24-32" and on an ultrawide the typical size is 34-35".... tobii decided to cut it at 24-27" and 30"?? on an ultrawide any experimental features in the software to go beyond the official size?
Great review Wombat after buying the Tracker 4C id never buy any thing from Tobii again Track ir all the way makes me laff how SCS software added numbers for the sliders so you can get Accuracy and precision on Tobbii but cant do it for the rest of there interfaces still lets both games down and im like you play both ETS & ATS a lot wish SCS software would take not sick of asking them to do it for there whole game and update what half the slides do
@@WombatTrucker I can't m8 i now game with a 50" tv so it don't fit any more when i upgraded my simrig i like Track ir Pro so much better to use can see what its going to look like before go in to games and so much easy to set up the interface for 4C is not easy and was worse before scs software added the number sliders like i said they have any got to add it to the rest of the game now lol
track ir 5 pro is wired and hocks up to your head set and dues all of this and your experimental and supports more games then the tobii it also has a built in pause button so you can pause your feedback in case you need to look away or behind you tobii is trying to copy track ir with there head tracking only down fall is track ir dues do not eye tracking
I just send it into the traffic in ETS2 without looking to the sides. My ETS2 company will always remain poor from all the speed tickets and crashes anyway. I don't think an eyetracker is necessary, it seems more annoying than beneficial.
@@mtw227 Oh well with me being British the royal family is something I really hate and havent really got a clue about whats happening as I doze off so. Anyway sir could be as in a teacher as that might be what I was on about
The problem I have with eye trackers and head trackers is the way you hold your head while using it. This will result in next strain eventually. For the price of the tracker at 250 dollars you are only 100 dollars away from buying a VR headset, which is a much better experience.
Give it one year this thing is 250 to 260 bucks, almost half as much as a VR Headset with less than half the functions. That´s not okay. Actually 15 bucks of webcam and a free piece of software will give you all the functionality this thing has for ets and ats, it takes a little bit longer than 10 minutes to set up your curves and has no eye tracking, but unlike this it ignores bottles and nose scratching already.

Hi Wombat,
many thanks for this honest review.
I cannot understand tobii so far: selling 10 pcs for 229€ vs. selling 1000 pcs. for 149€. I think the pure material and labour costs around 30€ (I'm working in electronic production and we do 80% of the production in Germany SMD, THT, Assembly, Customizing and Testing)
A much more reasonable Price would increase the market dramatically. So in that assumption
2290€-300€=1990€ vs.
Subbed very good detail video
Roll would be good for Arma3 peeking around corners etc.
Thank you! I guess there’s several shooters that could benefit from roll come to think of it. I’ve been doing trains, plains and automobiles for too long to think out of the box 😂
sir when ets 2v1.38 global edition map update relese
thanks @wombat for the awesome vid ive subed to your channel and that was awesome :).
Hi Wombat, will this work with 32 inch curved monitors for ETS2?
Yes! I have a curved 32" myself so I know for a fact that it works
Thanks for this video, very useful
cool, i bought it today
To be fair, TrackIR supports a lot of games but it's almost all older games.
Only 6 titles have been added officially according to their list and the others are all very old titles and mostly dead titles for multiplayer games. (Sure for truckers and flight sim users, this doesn't matter.)
The Eyetracker is the only thing that sets it apart since other genres (like Assassins Creed) use just the gaze feature.
My main concern is the price.
the supported screensizes seems a bit dodgy to me(for the eyetracking), usually the range is 24-32" and on an ultrawide the typical size is 34-35".... tobii decided to cut it at 24-27" and 30"?? on an ultrawide
any experimental features in the software to go beyond the official size?
Great review Wombat after buying the Tracker 4C id never buy any thing from Tobii again Track ir all the way makes me laff how SCS software added numbers for the sliders so you can get Accuracy and precision on Tobbii but cant do it for the rest of there interfaces still lets both games down and im like you play both ETS & ATS a lot wish SCS software would take not sick of asking them to do it for there whole game and update what half the slides do
I think you should give the 4C a new chance on ATS/ETS2 1.38 as the support has been significantly improved with the new game version
Ive recently bought one of this. There excellent just dont where a high viz coat (it donr work) LOL
Är du svensk (din profilbild är den svenska flaggan)?
hola asta que tamaños de monitores sirve ???
track ir 5 pro is wired and hocks up to your head set and dues all of this and your experimental and supports more games then the tobii it also has a built in pause button so you can pause your feedback in case you need to look away or behind you tobii is trying to copy track ir with there head tracking only down fall is track ir dues do not eye tracking
I just send it into the traffic in ETS2 without looking to the sides. My ETS2 company will always remain poor from all the speed tickets and crashes anyway. I don't think an eyetracker is necessary, it seems more annoying than beneficial.
sir what is tobil eye tracker
Basically it's like vr but without the vr headset
Sir? I didnt know wombat was a part of the royal family
@@Matt-di6nb he deserves a "sir", look at how good and how much content he has provided us through the years.
@@Matt-di6nb Sir or dame are for people knighted by the queen, not people part if the royal family
It maybe better without glasses! haha...
If you dont need the old one pick me :))
3 years later, price is 237€...
Today black Friday deal
sooo useless, moving the head and destroying the eyes to look around. never understand, why ppl using this headtracking crap
