Okay time to gush about Dimitri I fooking LOVE his character arc. Pre-timeskip, he's a boy who has been through so much, but endeavors to live nonetheless. He tries to build from what he has lost, setting up what proves to be his ultimate salvation; companionship. Post-timeskip, he is broken. He loses everything, and subcomes to the hatred he refused to entertain before. However, he isn't alone this time. Because he made friends, forged close ties with others (especially Byleth), there are people who want to help him. He goes from one who kills soldiers brutally with his bare hands, who would slaughter Edelguard as soon as look at her, to someone who extends his hand to his enemy. He heals, and that is really why he's so important to me as a character. TLDR I'm a sucker for two things; redemption and healing and Dimitri gets both.
my only problem with Dimitri imo is how quick he redeems himself. the time between his conversation with byleth after Rodrigues death, and him telling the rest of his allies that he can live for himself, is way too short. Canonically it happens over a week, but for the player, give it 5 minutes most. I reckon it would’ve had a much bigger impact if he had his speech at the end of the month, and during the month, you’d find him at the monastery. All he would say to you upon interacting would be just ‘professor.... I-‘ anyway that’s just my opinion
Chris Hackney really killed it with Dimitri. A role that changed so much and had to display such a range of different moods... and he nailed all of it.
I'm gonna be the dummie and ask...Dimitri is Russian? I know the Empire, Kingdom, and the Alliance are supposed to represent different parts of Europe and the reformation of it (so I've heard) but I didn't know the Kingdom was that of Northern/Eastern Europe. I've heard people say Dimitri was of French decent and the Kingdom was that of some parts Western Europe. Of course I'm not saying this to start an argument or a debate. I'm honestly curious because I never seem to got a good clarification on the matter and would like to know since I'm confused 😅.

Honestly, I think he’s Welsh, myself. The tales of chivalry in Faerghus make me think of Arthurian legends, which are some of THE most iconic chivalric mythos, and King Arthur was Welsh. Furthermore, Dimitri’s surname is VERY WELSH, and the Latinate names of many of the rest of the Faerghuseach cast still check out, as the Welsh/Britons at the time of King Arthur still had ties to the Romans.

Same! I looked at the three lords and was like "yep, I'm either going with Claude or Edelgard, that makes the choice easier". Fast-foward to now, he's my favorite lord in the entire series and possibly my next cosplay project.
I love Dimitri’s character too, but he’s my least favorite lord in 3 houses, by a significant margin. It’s amazing that, with the help of his friends, he moves past the lingering regrets of the dead, and starts fighting for what he believes in, but what he believes doesn’t line up with my beliefs nearly as much as Edelgard or Claude.
@@maxrichards3881 yeah, blue lions is the most character-focused route of them but not the biggest story wise. It can easily be boiled down to simply “kill Edelgard” and that sums up Azure Moon. Still my favourite route though.

1st Playthrough: *attempts to play Black Eagles route first to avoid early heartbreak but picks Dimitri upon meeting him* 2nd Playthrough: *picks Blue Lions again* 3rd Playthrough: *plays Black Eagles for 5 minutes...encounters Dimitri in mock battle and soft resets to do Golden Deer route instead* 4th Save File: *Blue Lions but male Byleth* Yes, I believe this is how this game was meant to be played.
Tzi I feel you. I made the mistake of attempting to immediately start the Golden Deer route after I played the Blue Lions route and after only getting to like two chapters after the time skip I deleted the run and went back and played the Blue Lions route again. :’)
In truth, I saw the conversation, between Edelgard and Dimitri in chapter 21, and I found myself agreeing with Edelgard on everything, taking into account that the “highborn” thing was a mistranslation. I’m sorry that Dimitri dies in every path but his own, but in his own path, nothing changes, power is still held by bloodlines.
@@maxrichards3881 but Dimitri is the same. He sees the different power balance between the the nobility & the commoners, the crest & the crestless and he does want to change it for the better. I mean Byleth becomes archbishop so together as king & archbishop of Fodlan they can ultimately change the system, not to mention most BL students are nobles as well. Multiple epilogues also mention the toppling of the system albeit slowly but not as forceful as Edelgard's way by starting a war over it. Sylvain's epilogue alone proves that the system can be changed. And yes I know Edelgard's war does influence the characters to actually change for the better but that doesn't mean her intentions are very innocent or necessary. She sheds the most blood out of three lords and i dont care if she felt sorry for herself, Dimitri & Claude already has that mindset of changing the future so why bother or why cant she convince them instead to help change Fodlan? PS. Its kinda mentioned in the game but crests are slowly disappearing in the bloodlines. So yeah nature will run its course eventually
My Thoughts Exactly If crests are slowly disappearing, then the atrocities the nobility commit to keep them around will become more and more common. It’s better that the religious organization that glorified the crests is dismantled. The system only ever gets toppled because of this war, and Rhea didn’t even show signs of repentance until after her 5-year vacation in Edelgard’s basement.
Tbf I don't think it's fair to say that the vow he makes in one route should apply to another considering that events play differently depending on which route you chose. But I know that this is a joke so I'll just go along with it >:3

i remember watching the scene at 0:33 and just being in awe of the voicework. his va perfectly embodies the character and it nearly had me in tears. everything about the scene is so touching and the voicework- the shaking voice, how you can truly feel dimitri’s anguish and loss in his voice- amplifies it so much. chris hackney is so fucking talented, i couldn’t of asked for anyone better english va for dimitri.
the scene where he returns to faerghus and they cheer for him and him trying to negotiate with edelgard are both highlights of hackney’s work, too. so many of his supports are amazing because of the va work too. just...... God Bless Chris Hackney and Our Boy Dimitri
I don't wanna be the "🌸baby boy must be protected UwU💓💕" fangirl but god his character writing is hngggh (which should be expected from such important characters like the lords tbh) like how as intimidating as he may look he can be yet so caring and understanding?? Byleth is the moral anchor of each faction. Excepting Claude, without Byleth they all succumb to their own personal traumas and inability to let go of the past, and become soaked in blood. Three Houses is (at least in my view) a tragedy borne of misunderstanding and failure to communicate on all sides.
I will fight EVERYONE who trashes Dimitri. I didn't even marry him but I'm here to support him 100%. He went through so much pain in his life and still held true to being kind and gentle. It's taken many pitfalls in his path, but he showed us the contents of his dear heart at the end of Azure Moon. Long live the Compassionate King.

@@Aurasoul. Each playthrough is a route. there's a black eagles route, Blue Lions route, Golden Deer route, and a church of seiros route. If you dont get to B rank with Edelgard and speak to her during a certain month, you'll do the church of seiros route. if you do it, you'll do the true Black eagles route
@@elijahdowell7679 actually you can still get the church route even if you get a B Support rank with Edelgard and speak to her in her specific conversation, you just have to make a choice later on that decides which route your going to take (they even warn you that the choice your about to make will change the story, it's the one where Rhea and Edelgard start talking to each other).
dimileth seems like the canon relationship for BOTH male and female byleth, he’s just too sweet/flirty with both of them (constantly commenting on their smiles, excessive hand-holding etc)
When I first started Three Houses, I went in blind. I chose Dimitri because he seemed the most hopeful, the most optimistic and the kindest of the three lords. I was not disappointed, because, in a way, he is. It hurt to see him go through so much pain, and to see he redeem himself and heal, to become the Hero King... I can’t bring myself to do the other routes, because I feel I let Dimitri down. With my inaction, I allow him to fall back into despair. Dimitri is genuinely the best person of the 3 lords, and it reflects as in his ending, he has the most people alive.
*Before Getting FE3H:* Hmmm, I'm not sure what route to take. I guess I'll give Blue Lions a go, since They're mainly melee focused.... *After FE3H BL route:* I must protect this emotionally-damaged cinnamon roll at all costs.

Margrave Gautier: Disinherited his own son all because he had no crest, and didn't seem to concerned having his other son put his life on the line to take out some bandits. Marquis Vestra: Took part in the Insurrection of the Seven, betraying the imperial family (who the Vestra family had sworn to protect) and leaving Edelgard vulnerable to TWSITD. I don't remember what Count Gloucester did. Sorry
If I were to choose any other House in this game; it would drive me bonkers. After going with the Blue Lions first, I just can't bring myself to abandon Dimitri. He's already been through enough with the savagery of the war, and it's torturing him. He doesn't deserve that....He needs someone who understands his pain, love him no matter what and to reach out and help his lost soul.THAT is what he deserves.
Chanler Creamer dude, same. I played BL first and ended up playing the route 3 times in a row to gather the courage to pick another house. I ripped off the band aid fast and decided to side with Edelgard right after. Hated her through the entire story and when I saw her not giving a fuck about my boyfriend Dimitri, I hated her even more. Church was second and I hated Edgelord so much I benched her the entire route until I could betray her. Felt so good killing her. Killing Rhea was dope, too. Deer was last and killing her again was a reward. Hilda saying how Dimitri died was me during all play throughs with the emotions of sadness with borderline tears. After finishing all routes I can honestly say that Dimitri is the best character in the game and his route while missing the lore is the most interesting.
Okay, I loved the first video, and this one has me staring at my screen with my hands over my mouth, jut screaming softly. Thank you for sharing all of Dimitri's sweetness in one convenient package!
What I love about Dimitri that he feels human. He's grounded, so sincere but in genuine way, and the hardships he goes through are very heartbreaking and admirable considering how he slowly overcomes them with his friends. He is a strong dorky knight-in-shining-armor prince charming but what he goes through in his life from being unable to live on from his trauma, ending being psychothic (not psychopath) to a well respected king who will face his demons in the face will resonate with a lot of people, including me. He struggles to move away from his past or to find his future as a king but what he learns is that the importance of the present. He goes through a dynamic character arc that had its ups & downs, the downs weighed heavy on the heart but the ups lift your feet off the ground of pure pride. I'm proud as his professor to actually see him grow and becomes the man who he really is, what his people need and not the beast what his ghosts demand. Dimitri is the best character Ive ever seen in media so far. Me: crying for picking M!Byleth. Me: "He's the only guy I ever felt gay for!"

Same! Well, I played all the routes though and I must say I did not enjoy playing Edelgard’s route. Had to fight and/or kill many of my favourite characters (both students and people working in the church) and also I hated fighting for what Edelgard stood for.

I kinda wonder how Dimitri (specifically timeskip Dimitri) would react to the amount of love and understanding this fandom has for him, ya know? As someone who played through the Edelgard loyalty ending the first time, it truly amazes me how much this game makes you care about it’s characters. That’s a man that’s almost broken, needing the professor’s hand to firmly and softly promise him that he’s okay, he’s got it, after all this pain and torture of war it’s over. Dimitri best boy.

Dimitri is a great character, by this point In the story Byleth's and Dimitri's bond is strong. It is very heartwarming to see their strong friendship.
I have come to realize that this is no longer just "liking a character" Dimitri has remained my obsession for a year now. A YEAR AND HE'S STILL MY ADDICTION.
Dimitri will always be my favorite lord. So strong yet so down to earth. So kind and empathetic yet capable of being a maniac when he needs to. The perfect warrior.

Same! I looked at the three lords and was like "yep, I'm either going with Claude or Edelgard, that makes the choice easier". Fast-foward to now, he's my favorite lord in the entire series and possibly my next cosplay project.
I love Dimitri’s character too, but he’s my least favorite lord in 3 houses, by a significant margin. It’s amazing that, with the help of his friends, he moves past the lingering regrets of the dead, and starts fighting for what he believes in, but what he believes doesn’t line up with my beliefs nearly as much as Edelgard or Claude.
@@maxrichards3881 yeah, blue lions is the most character-focused route of them but not the biggest story wise. It can easily be boiled down to simply “kill Edelgard” and that sums up Azure Moon. Still my favourite route though.

In truth, I saw the conversation, between Edelgard and Dimitri in chapter 21, and I found myself agreeing with Edelgard on everything, taking into account that the “highborn” thing was a mistranslation.
I’m sorry that Dimitri dies in every path but his own, but in his own path, nothing changes, power is still held by bloodlines.
@@maxrichards3881 but Dimitri is the same. He sees the different power balance between the the nobility & the commoners, the crest & the crestless and he does want to change it for the better. I mean Byleth becomes archbishop so together as king & archbishop of Fodlan they can ultimately change the system, not to mention most BL students are nobles as well. Multiple epilogues also mention the toppling of the system albeit slowly but not as forceful as Edelgard's way by starting a war over it. Sylvain's epilogue alone proves that the system can be changed.
And yes I know Edelgard's war does influence the characters to actually change for the better but that doesn't mean her intentions are very innocent or necessary. She sheds the most blood out of three lords and i dont care if she felt sorry for herself, Dimitri & Claude already has that mindset of changing the future so why bother or why cant she convince them instead to help change Fodlan?
PS. Its kinda mentioned in the game but crests are slowly disappearing in the bloodlines. So yeah nature will run its course eventually

If crests are slowly disappearing, then the atrocities the nobility commit to keep them around will become more and more common. It’s better that the religious organization that glorified the crests is dismantled. The system only ever gets toppled because of this war, and Rhea didn’t even show signs of repentance until after her 5-year vacation in Edelgard’s basement.

i remember watching the scene at 0:33 and just being in awe of the voicework. his va perfectly embodies the character and it nearly had me in tears. everything about the scene is so touching and the voicework- the shaking voice, how you can truly feel dimitri’s anguish and loss in his voice- amplifies it so much. chris hackney is so fucking talented, i couldn’t of asked for anyone better english va for dimitri.
the scene where he returns to faerghus and they cheer for him and him trying to negotiate with edelgard are both highlights of hackney’s work, too. so many of his supports are amazing because of the va work too. just...... God Bless Chris Hackney and Our Boy Dimitri

Byleth is the moral anchor of each faction. Excepting Claude, without Byleth they all succumb to their own personal traumas and inability to let go of the past, and become soaked in blood. Three Houses is (at least in my view) a tragedy borne of misunderstanding and failure to communicate on all sides.
To some, the lesbian option.
To others, killing Rhea.
To me: Curiosity on what the route was and regret picking that route.
I only join El for Hubert. If I could rend him from Edelgard's cold dead hands, I would.
I will fight EVERYONE who trashes Dimitri. I didn't even marry him but I'm here to support him 100%. He went through so much pain in his life and still held true to being kind and gentle. It's taken many pitfalls in his path, but he showed us the contents of his dear heart at the end of Azure Moon.

If you dont get to B rank with Edelgard and speak to her during a certain month, you'll do the church of seiros route. if you do it, you'll do the true Black eagles route
@@elijahdowell7679 actually you can still get the church route even if you get a B Support rank with Edelgard and speak to her in her specific conversation, you just have to make a choice later on that decides which route your going to take (they even warn you that the choice your about to make will change the story, it's the one where Rhea and Edelgard start talking to each other).

When I first started Three Houses, I went in blind. I chose Dimitri because he seemed the most hopeful, the most optimistic and the kindest of the three lords. I was not disappointed, because, in a way, he is.
It hurt to see him go through so much pain, and to see he redeem himself and heal, to become the Hero King...
I can’t bring myself to do the other routes, because I feel I let Dimitri down. With my inaction, I allow him to fall back into despair. Dimitri is genuinely the best person of the 3 lords, and it reflects as in his ending, he has the most people alive.
*Before Getting FE3H:* Hmmm, I'm not sure what route to take. I guess I'll give Blue Lions a go, since They're mainly melee focused....

Marquis Vestra: Took part in the Insurrection of the Seven, betraying the imperial family (who the Vestra family had sworn to protect) and leaving Edelgard vulnerable to TWSITD.

If I were to choose any other House in this game; it would drive me bonkers. After going with the Blue Lions first, I just can't bring myself to abandon Dimitri. He's already been through enough with the savagery of the war, and it's torturing him. He doesn't deserve that....He needs someone who understands his pain, love him no matter what and to reach out and help his lost soul.THAT is what he deserves.
Chanler Creamer dude, same. I played BL first and ended up playing the route 3 times in a row to gather the courage to pick another house. I ripped off the band aid fast and decided to side with Edelgard right after. Hated her through the entire story and when I saw her not giving a fuck about my boyfriend Dimitri, I hated her even more. Church was second and I hated Edgelord so much I benched her the entire route until I could betray her. Felt so good killing her. Killing Rhea was dope, too. Deer was last and killing her again was a reward. Hilda saying how Dimitri died was me during all play throughs with the emotions of sadness with borderline tears. After finishing all routes I can honestly say that Dimitri is the best character in the game and his route while missing the lore is the most interesting.

What I love about Dimitri that he feels human. He's grounded, so sincere but in genuine way, and the hardships he goes through are very heartbreaking and admirable considering how he slowly overcomes them with his friends. He is a strong dorky knight-in-shining-armor prince charming but what he goes through in his life from being unable to live on from his trauma, ending being psychothic (not psychopath) to a well respected king who will face his demons in the face will resonate with a lot of people, including me. He struggles to move away from his past or to find his future as a king but what he learns is that the importance of the present. He goes through a dynamic character arc that had its ups & downs, the downs weighed heavy on the heart but the ups lift your feet off the ground of pure pride. I'm proud as his professor to actually see him grow and becomes the man who he really is, what his people need and not the beast what his ghosts demand. Dimitri is the best character Ive ever seen in media so far.

Same! Well, I played all the routes though and I must say I did not enjoy playing Edelgard’s route. Had to fight and/or kill many of my favourite characters (both students and people working in the church) and also I hated fighting for what Edelgard stood for.

As someone who played through the Edelgard loyalty ending the first time, it truly amazes me how much this game makes you care about it’s characters. When Dimitri has his voice cracking, asking if he deserves to be king? That’s a man that’s almost broken, needing the professor’s hand to firmly and softly promise him that he’s okay, he’s got it, after all this pain and torture of war it’s over. Dimitri best boy.
