I am SO honored to have EMOH premiere on DUST!! 🌟🚀As an indie director who primarily specializes in sci-fi films, this is a huge dream come true. This film was created as a love letter to the world of independent filmmaking. On a random Friday morning I pitched the idea to my partner Galen (who happens to be a cinematographer) then exactly 1 week later, the two of us completed it. I follow your regular channel and I was so joyed to see how happy you were. Getting a film on DUST has always been a goal of mine as well. Maybe this year I'll work towards that. Thanks for the inspiration... and the BTS. Lol. I love BTS.
Well, the individual elements of an interesting story are here but there's nothing binding it all together so it ends up being a short film where a bunch of stuff happens and then the film ends and the audience is left asking what it was all about.
My hypothesis is that she’s in cryostasis, and to keep her mind intact, the AI provides realistic dreams in a sort of simulation. This allows for very long space travel without arriving brain-dead. However, the simulation malfunctioned, starting to move backward for some reason. The AI then took control and, instead of freeing the passengers, decided to take over the world. It’s a convoluted story, and the ending doesn’t really make sense...
That would explain how her interstellar ship had a 50 year old workshop with 50 year old wood cabinets for a laboratory. But then again details like that are what gives low budget films charm.
I don’t understand what’s going on here: the gravity was backwards? There were multiple copies for the main character? The AI was taking over? Huh? Why’d it take her 258 days to find water? Was the air bad so she was wearing a creepy mask?

Too many questions to answer in a short film. I thought the idea of a short story was to have a concise beginning, middle and end? To tell a full story in a short time. Not just throw as many ideas as possible onto the screen and see what happens? I really hate this current way of short storytelling. It has its place, but you need to know something about the characters. I just end up being annoyed and fed up. Waste of time.
I totaly disagree with the comments. I think this short movie was entertaining and created multiple layers to leave the end to the imagination of each viewer.
Original Eve meets her earlier self by a stream. While time moves forward for us and for Eve, Earth's time is running backward because a ship reversed its entropy to reboot the planet. This causes a paradox: Previous Eve is repeating actions that Original Eve has already done, leading to overlapping past and future events. Notice that Previous Eve is going to do what she already should have done, because that's what makes her "Previous". This creates a nonsensical timeline. Multiple ships from different timelines start appearing, each bringing an earlier version of Eve-the second ship with Previous Eve, a third ship with an even earlier Eve, and so on. For all these ships and Eves to exist together, the very first ship must have reversed the entropy of the entire universe, not just Earth. This universal reversal allows multiple timelines to overlap, causing ships and Eves from different times to be in the same place. Also notice that the Eve's have free will, an important concept in physics. This means as soon as the previous Eve is aware of the Next Eve, she could decide to do something else, causing a classical Timeline Fracture.
I love how people just accept this woman floating around in space on a ship we have no ability to build, traveling to a planet we have no technology to reach, and then lack the ability to suspend reality long enough to blabber on about physics.... It's scifi people, suspend the known for the impossible. Dream! My questions are why the mask? Whats the ending about? And why did no one walk through the blackberry bushes to cover up the water treatment sign? Good short, appreciate the effort and time. CG was respectable, audio was understandable, and editing worked well. Thanks!

Interesting premise (s), I guess. It was a bit hard to follow through with too many things happening. It would have been nice to follow through on one thing. For example, why there are multiple copies, why everything is backwards, or why AI is taking over. Or how this was a simulated world for the AI to understand humans and physics, and it ends with the character realizing they are just an iteration of a simulation, which we, as normal sci-fi enthusiasts, can relate to as well. The character swearing does not convey her emotions like a facial expression. Was she experiencing fear, frustration, anxiety, joy of arriving back HOME, confusion, excitement?
That is one powerful AI to be able to reverse time. Honestly I don't get it. I do like time paradox stories, but this leads nowhere and I feel like having the AI say "It's our turn now" at the end was a cop out because you didn't know what the point of creating this time paradox was about, so just blame the AI and end the film I guess. Time paradox stories are really hard so I do applaud trying to take that on in a short story, even if it didn't work.
there are times where it fits naturally and makes the dialog seem more realistic. As if you've never swore when you stubbed your toe or broke something ect
I'll agree with many others here: There's no explanation of all the "wrong" things. The laws of physics can't "reverse", so 90% of what we're seeing requires a "willing suspension of disbelief"--for which the short provides no leverage. And then there is not only zero explanation for the multiples of Eve and the multiple starships, there's not even any *context* for us to formulate a possible understanding of what's happening. There's no *story*. [1] And, while I understand that it's only 8 minutes, there is nothing shown about Eve to make her either empathetic or sympathetic (in Aristotelian terms). Very well done on the technical side, but a fail in the story telling. -------- [1] A 6-word story (apocryphally attributed to Hemmingway) tells a very powerful story which is both empathetic and sympathetic : For sale Baby shoes Never worn

they used chat gpt for their films
I'll agree with many others here: There's no explanation of all the "wrong" things. The laws of physics can't "reverse", so 90% of what we're seeing requires a "willing suspension of disbelief"--for which the short provides no leverage. And then there is not only zero explanation for the multiples of Eve and the multiple starships, there's not even any *context* for us to formulate a possible understanding of what's happening.
There's no *story*. [1]
And, while I understand that it's only 8 minutes, there is nothing shown about Eve to make her either empathetic or sympathetic (in Aristotelian terms). Very well done on the technical side, but a fail in the story telling.
--------
[1] A 6-word story (apocryphally attributed to Hemmingway) tells a very powerful story which is both empathetic and sympathetic

Wish I had that mask during the pandemic!
Another malevolent AI pretending to be a benign assistant. "I'm sorry, Dave. I can't do that."
You robots had your chance, now is the rise of the gerbals.
Core of a possibly good story - depending on what is actually happening.
dumb, but what do I know.
😊
Yeah, I wanted to like it, but I have no idea what's going on. 🤷♂️
I saw this short film few weeks ago it's not new...
They probably wanted to reach a bigger audience here. Or do you mean on the same channel?
@@AlexTrusk91 you are probably right. I honestly don't remember on witch channel i saw it.
So was the AI simulating her, what humans would do on the planet, and then found her lacking? So he was all Hasta La Vista, I’m out?
Call it a, Paradox....
Why is she holding that thing like it's a rifle 🤣🤣
Why does the main character have to go everywhere with a weapon, not just on her person, but in her hand? Is it an American thing?
she clearly doesnt understand how to make a proper short film
Could also be a Palestinian thing? Ir an Iranian thing? Or an Iraqi thing? Hamas? Hezbollah? PLO?
@@BOMBASTICKiNGChickenz wow dude did she eat your hamster or something?
@@reezlaw tf are you talking about you bot
i find it funny how they used a nerf gun for her weapon lol
so she's trapped in a virtual reality earth by her AI who has rebelled against humanity along with the other AIs?
thats definitely a nerf maverick
I did not understand the end lesson this movie. anyone ?
English subtitles read : prepare the capsule for lunch. She clearly says launch. Why always the bad subtitles?
