    I come from the Fuji community and love Fuji. I have owned many cameras over the years, including Canon. My wife bought me a Leica D Lux 8 for my birthday, and I love it.
    The size is the main reason, but I love the menu system, and having a zoom does make a difference. I prefer it to my X100v. It's technically not better and does not have great film simulations, but these can be added afterwards anyway. I think with cameras, it does come down to personal taste and how we feel about the camera. I have subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks so much Carl! They're both great cameras for sure. Thanks an awesome birthday gift. I think I've spent so much time using the Fuji X100v that it feels almost perfect to me. And maybe I was expecting the D-Lux 8 to give me a similar experience to my other Leica's. I do love the zoom and the menu system is one of the best. Thanks so much for the sub, I appreciate it.

    Thanks for the update. I sold almost all my digital gear over the past couple of years since I'm shooting 95% film these days. I did have my eye on the DLUX 8 for a possible choice but at this point I'm in no hurry to replace my digital gear so I can wait.

      Thanks so much Frank! It's a nice camera for sure. I think I just got so used to the Fuji X100 system and it's going to take awhile for me to love it. I wish they'd include the Leica Looks. Let me know when you go to get one, I might be ready to get rid of mine. I appreciate you!

    Congrats on 3k subs my friend! 🎉
    Very well deserved 😊!!!
    Regarding the Dlux 8 I’m honestly not surprised. The LUMIX LX100 and LX100II aka Dlux7 were great small compact camera back in the days. But buying a new Dlux8 which is just a beauty facelift from the 7 and only has the Leica label on it doesn’t feel right, if you experienced the „real“ leicas before (also there is no technical improvement). And I think Leica knows that. I think the Dlux 8 targets a complete different customer type, which we camera people won’t understand.
    When I was in a Leica store just chatting I observed a retired couple where the husband was buying a SL3. I heard the woman just saying the SL3 does produce great pictures, but it’s too big for her. Leica seller then introduced the DLux8. Boom, that’s the target audience! Make some extra sales, when the man / husband buys his SL or M camera, since for most women it’s too big / heavy and want something with
    AF. These kind of people who have a lot of money, worked their whole life and are now retired don’t go out to check, if a Fuji etc is better or not. They will find the Dlux8 very cute next to an M and SL and might purchase it. In fits nice into their purse.
    Just a theory of mine 😅😇
    I totally get your argument regarding experience. Although I have my 43 and MP, I recently got a Canon 5D classic for 100 bucks and really having fun with it 😀
    Btw why did you have to show that Leica Barnack camera?! I’m looking at these since 2-3 weeks and trying to convince myself, I don’t need another Leica 😅
    Man you triggered me again 😜😆

      Thanks Phil! That's a great story - you're probably going to upset a few people with it, though. People are much more sensitive than I expected, haha. You're probably right, though. As for the classic gear, I love it! I was looking at a couple of options: the 1929 Leica 1 that I showed in the video and a 1932 Leica 2. I couldn't decide between the two, so I did what any sensible camera collector would do - I bought both! :)

    why are you using a camera to photograph your film? how does that work? I know people use scanners but I've never figured it out either. Do you have a tutorial?

    • @camerafusion
      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kalliemj I do have a scanner, but it’s so slow. A lot of the time I will scan with a camera. It’s super fast, in comparison. Maybe I should do a video. There are a ton out there already, but I guess that goes with everything. The main thing when scanning with a digital camera is to have a macro lens so you can fill the frame (sensor) with the image. It’s not a must m, but for good results, it’s helpful. A lot of people send their film out to a film lab, but I enjoy the process. Although, I have many rolls I haven’t gotten to, so maybe some film lab would like to sponsor me??? (If they see this😃). Do you shoot film?

    I've only been back in the photo world for a year or so and been through a bunch of Fuji and Panasonic cameras but none give me that feeling like the 10 year old Fujifilm X30 I have. Small sensor but EVF and manual built in Zoom at f/2.8 means it's going everywhere with me. So glad I felt the D-Lux 8 was over priced, I've spent third of the amount and am really happy.

    • @camerafusion
      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome! Thanks David! I'm glad there are some others who agree that the user experience is also very much import. Not that the D-Lux 8 isn't a great camera, I'm just not feeling it yet. Clearly that can change with a bit of time as these are my first experiences with it.

  • @Malick333
    @Malick333 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For photography we all fall on a spectrum ... on one end 100% performance focused, and the other 100% experience focused. Then an infinite amount of variations in-between, even changing depending upon our needs, goals, situation. It seems the performance extremists struggle to understand WHY the experience types would do this or that.
    Example .... I absolutely hate using the Ricoh GR3. It's a tad less boring to use as my iPhone. The GR3 image is spectacular ... the ergo's are great ... the size is nuts ...but no matter what, it was boring. Other people love using it, I don't. And I think the more cameras you use, there more nuanced our experiential preferences get.

    • @camerafusion
      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Spot on! I'm just a hobbyist so user experience is at the top for me, but I can see where a profession that makes a living would be on the performance side. As for the GRiii, I felt the exact same way. I kept trying to figure out why so many people loved shooting with it. But I did start to warmup to it on this weekend getaway. I'm kinda looking forward to using it again. Thanks again Malick!

      For me the GR3 is the best invention after sliced bread😂.

    • @Malick333
      @Malick333 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@camerafusion yeah exactly, if I'm doing something pro then I select for 100% performance. If not pro, I go for experience first. And yeah I really really wanted to love the GR3 .... if it had a pop EVF that would've made it work for me. I got an OVF but then that defeats easily slipping it in and out of my jeans pocket ... and if I'm gonna carry it on a strap, might as well go with something I enjoy much more. If they add a pop up EVF for the Ricoh GRIV like the Sony RX100 series, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

      All great points! I feel the same way about the EVF. It was frustrating having to spend an extra $250 for the viewfinder, and as you correctly mentioned, it’s then no longer a pocketable camera. A pop up EVF would ad a ton of value it.

  • @kaczynski2333

    That has a 1 inch sensor? Making the Sony RX100 the direct competitor. The Sony is a great camera; but the early generations (I have a mark 1) has.a.terrible menu.

      That’s Awesome, Thank you!!! I’d love to get my hands on an F3. Nikon is one of the only brands I haven’t tried out yet and that one is beautiful. The menu on the DLux 8 is fantastic. One of the main reasons I’ll keep the camera.

  • @merlincom1
    @merlincom1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is it the menu you don’t like ? Leica Dlux7 or 6 is more like a standard menu… maybe that’s your pocket leica? Or is it the design you don’t like? But why did you order it? 🤔

    • @camerafusion
      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The menu system is one of the best things about it. I think maybe my other Leicas have spoiled me. I’m not sure exactly what it is. I’ve been buying up everything Leica lately. This is a nice camera, just doesn’t bring me those vibes.

    I'm sorry, you look like a very nice guy that could actually add to the topic - but your feedback about the new findings on the D-Lux 8 got super shallow - if the goal was to provide an update on your Buyers Remorse, it really didn't highlighted anything that we could also learn from - except that your opinion didn't change....

    • @camerafusion
      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Edson! That’s probably the nicest "mean" comment I’ve gotten lately. I really do appreciate your opinion. There were a few other points I considered mentioning in the video but decided to cut them out, as I felt they could be addressed with more time using the camera.
      In my previous video, some people were upset that I hadn’t used the camera before claiming I didn’t like it-this video addresses that. Others were disappointed that I didn’t show images from the camera, which I also cover. Some even suggested that it was because the camera is cheaper than my others, and I address that as well.
      Ultimately, I believe how something makes us feel is more important than its cost or appearance. From the food we eat to the people we surround ourselves with, everything in life revolves around how it makes us feel. I wouldn’t call that shallow.
      But again, I really take your feedback to heart as a way to improve my videos. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      @@camerafusion Thanks a lot for your time replying me. I actually respect you for having your own opinion on your own experience - rather than echoing what others are saying or reacting over a product description you never really tried. Different from you I'm having a great experience with the Leica D-Lux 8: I had tried the Fuji X100V before and - even though it's an excellent piece of equipment - I was not ready at that time for a fixed lens camera for street & travel purposes (which was my primary goal), then the D-Lux 8 came super handy and effective. It's not perfect (no camera is perfect) but it checked most of the boxes I needed: lens is super, quality image is great, best menu ever, pocketable, cool shooting experience - and very good looking ;)

    I really do like MFT cameras, but I think the DLux 8 is just out of its element at its price point. When I can buy 2 GRIIIX, an A7C with a kit lens, or an RX1R with money to spare for the same price, it’s hard to justify the Leica. The D Lux shares none of the DNA that makes other Leica offers compelling: it doesn’t have the versatile interchangeable lenses of the Lumix-based SL, it doesn’t have the rangefinder experience offered by the M, nor does it have the incredible FF form factor offered by the Q. The typ 116 used is near the cost of the D Lux after tax. The simple physics of signal-to-noise ratios prove that the FF sensor in the Q will perform better for the street and landscape work the zoom range of the D Lux covers, since it’s nowhere near the telephoto range where MFT dominates. It’s a product being sold on brand name to people who don’t know any better. I almost bought one until I really looked into it and realized it wasn’t going to change much of anything from the workflow I had with my GRIII.

      @camerafusion  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Alright, Max, I really appreciate you, but I’m going to need you to fill me in on a few things-otherwise, I might have to start Googling to catch up, haha. What exactly is an MFT camera? A lot of what you said is spot on, though. I do think it has some Leica DNA, especially with the menu system, which I actually love. It has a great, weighted feel and is really comfortable to hold for a small camera. There’s a lot to like about it. That said, I’d still trade it for a good-condition Leica Q or a Fuji X100 VI without hesitation.
