Great comparison Tony! I do prefer b/w and owned the Q2M a few years ago and since I have the M8 I always wanted to check the images next to each other, but can't. Now you thankfully did the job for me :) But the true strength of a monochrome sensor is simply these extreme ISO performance. That's the only thing I miss since I let the Q2M go. Hope my M8 will come back to me still this year :D Again great job on the video :) Did you use a IR cut filter on the M8 or were the images without one? People say M8 shine in black and white because of the missing IR cut filter on the sensor.
Thanks so much!!! I did use the IR Cut Filter. I didn't think to remove it because I set out to compare it to the Hasselblad X2D. I didn't know that. Now I need to see if there's a difference with and without the IR Cut Filter for black and white. Thanks again Phil.
Thank so much. Yeah, the colors are awesome. I love it and It's fun to use too! I did a previous video showing the color vs black and whites out of it. It didn't get much traction though. th-cam.com/video/4EW9efO4K5w/w-d-xo.html
Thank you! It’s under those 3 videos. Called Selling my camera collection. There’s also a tag in the upper right corner of this video that is linked to it.
I’ve been considering the q2. Have an m8 and the original m monochrome. The mono is brilliant and despite what many say the files are really great to work with
I’ve been considering selling the q2 and getting an M Monochrome or waiting to see if they do a Q3 43 Monochrom. I think I’d prefer that focal length. Thanks so much for watching and commenting Paul.
Wish I had the M9 to test that with lol. Make sure you go over the giveaway video, link in description, and put giveaway there. I’m using an automatic generator from the comments in that video. Thanks so much!
You know, I like the exercise of comparing two completely different equipment solutions but, for me, B&W is primarily a composition art form. It would be almost impossible to differentiate between an M8 photo, a Q2M photo or a B&W image from my Q2 unless you were at the margins of performance for low light or print size. Even less likely to discern differences in TH-cam resolution. Regardless, love seeing your captures and composition of an ordinary environment. Nicely done and I'm still going over to put in a plug for the giveaway. 😆 Thanks
I greatly appreciate your feedback. Before having the M8 I would have never guessed that 10MP would be enough but I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks again!
I have a M8.2 and I think the black and white files that are coming out of this are amazing! Everyone one says its like shooting an endless roll of kodachrome. But I dissagree its like shooting an endless roll of Trix 400! (exept shooting it at 320 and 640). its awesome. I shoot mine mostly with either a 50mm elmar M f2.8 (2007 version) or a Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 adapted with an amadeo adapter. I have a voigtlander 28mm f2 asph vII coming. I really want to buy a good leica 35mm again soon though. I love the 46mm field of view with the m8 actually!
Thanks Robert! Sounds like an awesome kit. I love me some Tri-x 400, I need to invest in a few more lenses. And I also love the 46mm field of view from the 35mm on the M8. I also have a TTArtisan 35 f/1.4 that I use on it and I absolutely love the images it renders. I did a video showing the sample images if you're interested th-cam.com/video/4EW9efO4K5w/w-d-xo.html Thanks again!
lol, Thanks for watching and commenting. I greatly appreciate it. Ecommerce, the wonderful world we live in today gives so much opportunity. A lot of hard work and a lot of luck. I wasn't always able to, believe me.
@camerafusion that's really great :) in my case, life has conspired to forcing me to the understanding older cameras (D300, D700, A6000) are truly good enough. I grew up with film only, and I make the effort to remember how amazing digital is by comparison (film is its own aesthetic, and that's a discussion). Renovations or camera is a no brainer
To your Pixel problem: You may send the M8 to Leica Wetzlar and they will remapp it so the pixel Line disappears. I just did with mine and it was cheap
I think the real difference would be seen in higher ISO performance. I have a M10M and it has usable pics at 50,000 ISO. I’m sure the QM would be similar.
I've though about selling a lot of my gear but stop every time I go to do it. I've though about selling the Q2M and picking up an 10M or 11M... Dreaming about it anyway lol
@ yeah. The only reason I had to sell it was because of work. Some people still like colour 😂. I’m currently on the hunt for another Q2 (Reporter hopefully) or might just get the Q-P.
@@camerafusion I think the more relevant detail as to whether 10mpx is "enough" depends entirely on the use and the processing. These days you can do a 3x enlargement in Giga pixel AI and it almost impossible to spot, even at A3 or A2 print sizes. I think it's more about dynamic range and low light. The M8 is mostly unusable for anything low light. Cropping to provide zoom, which is a big deal on a system that doesn't have any real zoom lens options, is the 3rd important aspect of the higher resolution.

The match in shutter sound is an underrated detail.

Impressive images out of the M8. It seems punchier than the Q2M. Good video 👍📸

Would be interesting to compare with M9 Monochrom's CCD sensor. Oh BTW, giveaway :-)

Great sample images. Both cameras are excellent for B&W.

The M8 is a stellar camera, like the M9 is. Nothing more to need in a camera.

Look into the Summarit 2.5. It’s a really underrated lens from Leica. I have that on my m8
Cool! I definitely check it out.
Q2M is arguably the best/coolest camera ever made.
It’s definitely up there on the list. Looking forward to a 43mm version.

The lens would be less important on the 10 megapixel camera.

Nice! The Reporter is beautiful!
from your images, I could not agree with you that M8 produced similar or very close to Q2 M, Q2 M is much much better IQ than M8!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I agree the image quality is better but I tend to like more of M8’s images. Probably has more to do with the focal length.
M8 more like Film!
That might be why I like it so much.
👍
Thanks Jeremy
