I’ve always followed the Will Gadd sequence, which is basically the same, except he releases the lower tool after bringing the feet up. Also, Stas gets good purchase with such delicate tool pecks - he must keep his tools really sharp! Have to work on that too.

I tried it this past winter (southern hemisphere), far easier and relaxing way for climbing vertical ice!
Will G uses his upward motion to smoothly release the lower tool from the ice. But whatever feels right and balanced.
