I my opinion the entire war might be a big kathaauktham part, simply because the army that can build a 30 km long Setu over the ocean could have destroyed Lanka in day easily, also the Ravana's Lanka being in an isolated island had almost zero chance of seeing any war from outsider, so in overconfidence thinking the ocean will protect them forever they might not invested time in making the cities defenses as strong as it could possibly be.
