    Greetings Prof. Baez
    I recently started Law School and one of my professors used one of your videos for our preparatory course (the Paper Chase video). Since then I've been binging on your videos and enjoying them a lot. Thanks for your effort helping us getting through this new phase in our professional lives.

    Please make a video on how to become a law professor. That is my dream job

      That's a great idea. I've put it on my list of future topics, though don't know when I'll get to it.

      I’ll put this on my list for possible future episodes. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I just finished my first year and wish I would have found your videos sooner. I love them.
    If you are looking for suggestions for future content, may I suggest one. The first semester I was extremely engaged and finished in the top 20% of my class. The 2nd semester I got a bit cocky and lackadaisical. I finished close to the middle of the pack. I am in no danger of failing or losing my scholarship, but mediocrity is not something I strive for.
    I can't imagine that I am alone in this situation. Would you consider a video topic addressing this issue or something similar?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for making this video!
    I'm graduating from high school in a few days with plans to become a lawyer. I decided to attend a state school that offered me a full ride so that I have money saved for law school. Right now I'm trying to decide on my undergraduate major. I would pick a liberal arts major where it is easier to earn a high GPA if I was 100% set on law school. However, I am currently a STEM major because I want a degree to fall back on if being a lawyer isn't right for me.
    So could you please make a video about the realities of being a lawyer? Possibly describing the different types of law one could go into and what the work of a lawyer is day-to-day? I feel like being a lawyer is something I want to commit to, but I want more information before changing my major. THANKS

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Annika, I would not change my major. You are at the beginning of your journey and you may change your plans several times before graduating from college. I started off as a music major, with plans on remaining in music. But after a year I changed my mind and decided I wanted to go to law school. Sounds like you enjoy the hard sciences, so stay with it rather than moving to the liberal arts, only to realize after 4 years that you really enjoy the sciences.

      I’m afraid I don’t know enough about how a legal education in England would help or hinder you, assuming you wanted to return to France. As you likely know, Cambridge and Oxford are the two best law schools in England, so they will be difficult to get into. Next, they will focus on the common law, which is different from the civil law taught in most European law schools. Hope that helps a bit.

    Prof. Baez, you and other law school oriented channels have suggested taking practice exams to help ensure success on finals. How, though, does one know if they've performed well on these exams? You mentioned swapping exams with a friend or colleague, but is this all that can be done? Are there typically answer keys with the exams? Are professors themselves willing to go over the exams with you during office hours?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the law school and professor. I give my students a rubric, best student answer, and my grading sheet. Most professors don’t provide anything and won’t even discuss the exam with students.

    I am almost finished my first year at university and will start my sophomore year in September. I’m not 100% set in my path to law school but it’s definitely the top choice right now. Is there anything I can do now besides trying to get top grades for my gpa? Any reading of literature I can do to become more well-read or improve my future LSAT score? Thanks!

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Find a good LSAT prep program and spend some time getting ready. It takes time to train the mind for the LSAT, so the more time you have the higher your score. Thanks for watching my channel and hope you enjoy the rest of college.

    What if you had a bad year in your sophomore year. What do you suggest to do to get back in the game so that I can still be a good applicant for the top 14 law schools..even top 20? If a student gets back on track and makes up for the bad grades, what are there chances then?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need a higher LSAT to make up for the lower GPA.

    Do law schools look at your junior college grades at all?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You submit ALL grades to LSAC, which then creates a standardized report for all law schools. This would include junior college classes someone may have taken in high school.

    How do I apply for a law school outside the country?? And how do I go about the admission process?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know. I would go to the law school’s website and contact their admissions department.

      Many law students in the United States read "One L" by Scott Turow, where he shares his journey through his first year of law school. I'll have to think some more about this and create a video. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi,
    I have a question about how law school admission committees view applicants that completed a Master’s program before applying. How does applying as a candidate with an MS influence, if at all, how the committee will review my application?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In most cases a Master's programs will not make any difference to a law school admissions department. But in some cases it might make a difference. On the low end, I know of a student who did poorly in college and had a weak LSAT score. But he did exceptionally well in his Master's program, so the law school took a chance on him. He ended up graduating, passing the bar exam, and doing well in politics.
      At the other end of the spectrum, at exceptionally selective law schools, a Master's program from another selective university can make the difference. A friend of mine graduated from Yale University and wanted to go to Yale Law School. Though he had the grades and LSAT score to get in, Yale wanted him to be more well-rounded. So he got a master's degree at Harvard, reapplied to Yale Law School, and this time got in. The master's program from Harvard made the difference.

      Thank you for your reply! I personally am interested in going to law school to study environmental law after I finish my grad program at Johns Hopkins. When applying to law school, do I apply to the law school’s environmental law program particularly, or is my application to get into the law school generally? Please let me know if you would like me to clarify my question. I’m wondering if admissions committee take into account what area of study a student wants to complete?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You apply to the law school though it can’t hurt to mention your interest in their environmental offerings. That being said, if you have the scores to get into an elite law school, I would not settle on a much lower ranked law school with a strong environmental program, unless you get a good scholarship from them.
