After request, I've made the preset demoed in the opening of this video available as a free download here: store.fracturedcapstan.com/knifonium_cassette-pad Thanks for watching!
‘K’ is pronounced hard. Hardware has 26 hand selected and matched vintage NOS tubes (including rare magnetic noise gen tube) in the audio chain. In the last year I’ve done lots of pieces with this VST including my first album. VST also has 2 audio input channels and up to 208 tubes worth of emulation (per instance). TMT is the green maraschino on the cake. It’s very quirky - feels sort of alive in a way.
I owned the first Knifonium shipped by Jonte Knif. I made a video of my Knifonium. I also own the Knifonium plugin. Obviously, it is nice to be able to stack voices in the VST which is impossible with the mono Knifonium. The plugin is good but it really is not nearly as wild as the real thing. I am not being an analog snob by saying this because I would really have loved to say the VST is a really good emulation. The differences at high resonance are really noticeable for example and the different overdrive modes are not really the same either. For those worried about tube swapping, it is really easy to get at the tubes and Jonte shipped a complete set of replacement tubes for the synth when I received it. The real Knifonium does not have an arpeggiator although you might think so if you view the video I made. I just used the sample and hold as a modulator.
What's the preset you used for the demo? I can't find it in my Knifonium. I see it is called Cassette Pad but I'm not able to find it in the Pad section! Thanks! And great video!
There is not one video of anyone ACTUALLY using the ext/cv feature. Nobody can find the sidechain to use it. Where is the sidecahin in Reaper? i so sad.
@@unbreakablealex2732 i did 2 things very recently....i 1) bought Knifonium at a great loyalty-discounted price and 2) upgraded my i-mac's RAM to 32 MB. what i also did was realize some patches are highly consumptive of CPU-power whereas most are in perfectly normal/acceptable ranges.....especially when you consider it's lushness and uniqueness. i've quickly come to enjoy this synth a LOT....thanks for prompting me to officially update my position on this lovely beast.
I believe this is due more to less than well-optimized coding than because the quality of the sound demands it. In comparison, Vacuum Pro requires less than half the CPU of this synth, and sounds every bit as lush and phat, if not even more so.
That’s what I paid for it last year, but there is the matter of Plug-in Alliance’s subscription (I think $99 for a year but you get access to a LOT of plugins). They send you vouchers occasionally that you can use on any plugin, including the Knifonium.
I took that first year to buy the individual plugins I liked when they went on sale or they sent vouchers for them. Then you can cancel the subscription if you want. Might take a couple weeks/months for them to send it, but they run good deals to subscribers fairly often. Was worth it to me just to move away from Waves plugins entirely.

Thank you! I immediately fell in love and was so happy to see it is a gift preset!

Still love this plugin and turning knobs a lot. How about you?
Agree entirely that it is an excellent soft synth! Thanks for the great preset.
Sounds fantastic. I am working off of your matriarch patches and learning a lot. Really appreciate your time.
Thanks, and glad to hear they’re helpful!
That intro was lush !!💜
Fascinating. Thanks for the hint. Nice instrument!
fantastic sounding synthesizer
Just recently started using this as well! Really great synth!
I’m just crazy enough to want the hardware Knifonium.
I mean, I wouldn’t turn one down, but the financing is a bit of a hurdle… for me anyway 😅
Looks and sounds really nice. Love your videos Jameson, thank you!
Thanks Julia! That means a lot :)
damn, that intro was epic
It’s completely vst or hardware vst setup? It’s sounds amazing never heard before in any vsti. ❤
I loved the demo part!! this preset comes with the plugin or did you make it from scratch?
Thanks! It’s one of my patches, but you can download it for free with the link in the pinned comment :)
@@JamesonNathanJones thanks man!! really dig it
sounds PHAAAAT!
Damn! I just turned of my studio man!
My friend showed me this plug-in the other day but his was green?

It’s my own variation on the VHS pad preset :)
@@JamesonNathanJones ohhh that's beautiful! Would you mind sharing it? If not, I get it completely.
Thanks! Have a great day :D
Give me a few minutes ;)
It’s now a free download in the video description. Thanks for watching :)
@@JamesonNathanJones Thank you very much! You're the best :)
Volca nubass has a tube !
How can i catch a deal like that... any clues???
Might want to sign up for their mailing list. They’re pretty good about letting you know when they’re running a sale or have a coupon code.
@@JamesonNathanJones thnks
its on sale for $30 TODAY. I just picked it up myself
@@belairdeep damn! Got no cpu right now. Thanks anyway 🙏
A Prophète8 or rev2 vst !???
I’m not sure I understand the question, but I do love my non virtual Rev2 :)

10:42. Radiohead.
Those effects will make it hard to mix in mono
i'would've bought it instantly when it came out but the first random preset i opened shot my CPU to 72%.....it does sound nice though.
What are the hardware specs of your computer?

@@planetclay thx but how old is your Mac? I’m using a 2020 intel iMac with over 64gb ram and wonder if I would also run into problems.
@@unbreakablealex2732 mine is late 2011.....with a newer machine like yours and that much RAM i can't imagine you having any problems whatsoever.

How can this be your favorite when there are no presets.
Isn't KNIF just too cool?
Understand you man.. but hope you understand that the digital one can never do the same job as the hardware unit. Hope you do!!
I have a lot of soft synths and I tested this synth as well. But huh, it is such a CPU eater. Bevor I buy Knifonium, I need first a new computer....
Haha Yeah that is definitely something to consider.
Yes. That's my main issue with this synth. I really love it but it's very CPU hungry. But the sounds are amazing!
What are the hardware specs of your computer?
25 tubes? Lol no. Imagine the hours wasted just doing tube swapping... you will never get the sound you want. Never!
Plug-ins certainly have their advantages 😂
No need to. It is shipped with quality tubes
How is it that even the maker says this sounds like the hardware, yet the hardware is $18500 and the plugin is going for $24.99?
They REALLY like those harpsichord keys. 😂
@@JamesonNathanJones is the plugin really $24.99 down from $299? Or is there a catch? If no catch then its a no brainer purchsse!
