A good bonus tip/trick with Knight's lightning spear is that the 4-6 surrounding spears will always target whoever you were locked onto when the spears began to appear, so you can swap lock on to another enemy to separate the main spear from the surrounding spears letting you hit 2 different targets with the spell, one with the main damage and another with the surrounding damage.

That will only happen if From Software decides to add stuff to the DLC in patches. Unfortunately, the DLC was datamined to hell and back this time around. pest thread spears are INSANE against anything omen sized or more. due to the fact that they are slow moving and linger after hitting their target, they can easily get some follow up hits in for some wild damage. Bayle and the furnace golems gets absolutely shredded by it too i would go as far to say its better for clearing out dragons than the dedicated dragon killing weapons
I almost skipped Bayle's second phase the first time I used Pest Threads against him, I had to intentionally stop and let him get up from the stance break or I would have melted him 100 to 0 without getting to see any of his second phase moves. I have a hard time imagining Pest Thread Spears could be much more effective.
Another tip for Heal From Afar is to just shoot it straight down to have a heal with a way faster cast time than the other ones. Useful if you wanna use a heal spell mid battle
The incantation itself is broken atm. You can literally let go crimson tear and switch it off into cerulean instead. You got way more benefit from this if you raise your mind around 35 and the cast itself are as quick as you drinking your flask ( if you put radagons icon that is )
It heals for the same amount as Lord's Heal, can be used at range, has a lower FP cost than Lord's Heal, and has faster casting speed than Lord's Heal. Basically a direct upgrade to Lord's Heal

The main gripe I have (and this extends to the basegame) is that so many bosses have functionally limitless stamina so they just never stop attacking and jumping around. It's obviously still doable but it's so fucking obnoxious IMO. First Souls game where I've felt like Fromsoft really started to lean too hard into the realm of bullshit.

@Mrhellslayerz I mean okay but this spell just generally doesn't have one either outside of getting smaller enemies to not run as fast maybe, it doesn't do damage and it doesn't have any stopping power. It's a waste of a slot
@@prototypetwo4042 It still has hitstun though..? Ain't a waist if you can get it to combo into stronger attacks. Expecting more out of it is like trying to make Miriam's Vanishing enable fast travel.
That ash of war gravity pull, the one that doesn't do much damage and pull everything toward you, is quicker, wider and more fp efficiency if you want to clean mausoleum foot tbh.
I have faith the incantations will get buffed. I think with the balancing, From Software was more than likely thinking that it's a better idea to leave them a little underpowered until the community settles on their opinions on these. Leaving them underpowered at least would not make their already previous patch updates and balance changes null. Give it time, and they will make the new DLC stuff make sense with the updates they've made prior.
I didn't actually think it'd work on them (Not sure why.) and then I caught one by accident while trying to heal. Nope, now we just get to carry around anti-revanant nukes.
Out of everything I've done in the DLC so far, I've only come across two things that I considered blatantly unfair: 1. For some reason, the Ghostflame Dragon on the Cerulean Coast's Fire has like *nine times* the range of every other one I've fought. 2. Commander Gauis spawn-camping the fogwall. Got murdered within 10 seconds the first 3 times I stepped through. On the 4th, I got on Torrent, got away from the initial attack, and then proceeded to beat him on that first actual attempt. Nothing about the rest of that fight felt unfair at all. Like, literally, my only two complaints about difficulty is if they could fix the range on the fire attacks of that one dragon and maybe have Gaius spawn a bit further back.
For gaius, run back behind the corner to the left of the door you enter the boss room in. The wall will stop his rush and you can buff and summon mimic yadada. Godspeed friend
Most of it's pretty fair. 2nd phase of the final boss has obnoxious visual clutter. Not as unfun as Malenia but it's not as polished as most of the rest of the DLC bosses it feels.
@@Emerald_Raven08exactly. To add on to that, Malenia at least has clear punish windows and only has 1 bs move. The final boss is a bullet hell on phase 2 and his main bs move is hard to read.

They are gonna need to patch in a LOT of balance and typing for all the spells. Half of them don't work with the base game spell boosting effects. I don't think a SINGLE dlc spell works with Godfreys icon. And nether do the spell type boosts from base game staves and seals. They added like 4 new death spells and not a single one is boosted by the prince of death staff.
Yesterday I did testing the damage of Knight's lightning spear with multiple talisman for comparison and I was shocked how small the damage differences are when using Godfrey icon and without it, there's difference but not even close to 5%
@@VSN-wb2ly possible that specifically may be because it only effects the main bolt, not the side bolts, which would have it make very little difference
As always, the low and mid workhorses are the best. Knight’s LS, Fire Serpent, Multilayered RoL, Pest Spears (omg lol). These easily fit in alongside the old standards and I had a lot of fun with them.
I will now imagine multilayered ring of light screaming in despair and existential dread 600 times per second as it tries to correct its path, but can't.
Random thing for the electrocharge incantation, you can combine it with the sorcery that covers your character in thorns and its surprisingly good in pvp, you just spam roll and the other person slowly dies while the game tries to figure out your latency. if the opponent doesnt have good connection they literally cannot hit you.
I honestly feel that they could have shrunk the overall map size by about 70% and nothing meaningful would have been lost. There's several zones that are almost literally completely empty.
In case anyone here's stuck on Messmer like I was, use the Multilayered Ring of Light 20:19. I have 71 faith and used winged sword talisman, milicent's prosthesis, godfrey icon, and the incantation damage talisman (can't remember the name). It took 1 charged hit to get him to stage 2, and 1 more to finish that b****!
If I was a member of the Ash of War or Spell art teams at FromSoft I would legitimately have restraining orders against me from trying to physically fight the balance team. They always fuck up everything "Oh wow this spell looks fantastic! Look at all the little details that went into the end bullets!" And it's fucking rain of fire... Even the good ones aren't that good. Every one of Messmer's spells is completely outclassed... BY FUCKING CONSUMABLE FIRE COILS. Best faith based fire damage scaling in the game is a literal consumable item, rather than.. yk.. the actual gear and spells you get as rewards.
Fire weakness on a bunch of stuff makes sense honestly when you remember that Mesmer was kicking everyone's ass before you get there. (I do in fact remember the complaints about the base game. I still think Malenia is a super fucked up boss so you'd best believe I think the final DLC boss's second phase is absolute garbage. The first phase is really awesome though. And I actually really enjoyed Mesmer)

@@abrupt9090 it really sucks because it's my one of my favourite looking incantations in the dlc, probably even the game. But as it stands without the blood loss, it's pretty mediocre at best
damage negation becomes more potent the more negation you have. if a boss 2 shots you at 0 negation, itll 4 shot at 50%, 8 shot at 75% and 16 shot at 87.5% as long as your blessing levels are good, damage negation spells like the protection spells and florisax's blessing are actually really significant increases to your durability
Yes and no. The way ER does scaling is that defense "basically" gives you about as much EHP (effective HP) independent of what you already have. Say you have 50% negation. This would double your EHP. So now your 1900 HP (because you leveled vigor like the good Tarnished you are) is worth 3800HP. If you now stack another source of 50% negation ontop the game will calculate the new defense values so it raises your EHP again by 1900. But what you see is that in the stats is that your defense went from50% negation to 66,6%. What I'm saying, with this system, thinking of defense as a % reduction value is not that great. Think of it as EHP. The thing that is mostly improved by stacking EHP (defense) is the healing you receive. With 0 defense your flask heals ... 500 HP lets say. Now if we go back to the 66,6% reduction you now suddenly heal 1500HP EHP per flask. Stacking lots and lots of negation will yes, increase how much you can tank, but even more importantly, how effective your regen is. With enough defense stacking even dinky heals that only trickle 8hp per second start to become powerhouses that heal 40-50-100EHP per second. There is a great video of GinoMachine (no hit FromSoft games runner) where he goes *all in* an tank and it is quite funny to see. The main reason why health increasing talismans (chief being Crimson Amber obv) will give you more in return even than the Drakeshield once you've stacked enough defense beforehand. What I'm trying to say, it doesn't matter what your defense is like, the spell always gives 190 EHP. You just have to figure out for yourself if that's worth the upkeep. (it usually isn't as most anything in the DLC worth a salt is hitting for 1000+ damage per hit, so adding another 190 EHP ontop of the ~5000 you're running around with with normal'ish armor and good blessing levels does very little)
@@JinFreeks you're thinking of systems like armor in dota 2 and league, whereas er's damage negation is a straightforward stacking multiplier. when you get +10% extra negation, that's really just adding an extra x0.9 step in the damage calculation, meaning you get x1.11 effective hp _based on your previous effective hp._ which means there's no actual distinction between 11% extra hp and 10% damage negation for every damage type, other than the fact that damage negation also affects effective hp from healing hell, this is why gino's defense run even worked. if all the armor and buffs he was using were only providing like +17% to +33% of his base hp as effective hp, he'd only end up taking around half as much damage as a usual run because stacking them all together wouldn't break far past +100% ehp, which is half damage. which is a far cry from the paper cut damage he was taking in the vid. like, he was regularly reaching 90% negation even before getting the end game stuff, which would be +900% ehp and if you'll notice, that would require stacking _nine_ different 50% damage negation sources under the system you're proposing
@@hi-i-am-atan Apparently it is. Good to know. You never stop learning something new every now and then. Not that it massively changes my stance on 10% worth of negation, but it does make it a lot better.
I made it to the final boss and have all 9 remembrances from the others.....that means the difficulty is balanced because I suck. It was so beautiful. Like Dark Souls in Elden Ring. Now this final boss I just need to learn some more of their moves.
Some of the complaints are reaching like with Miquella's light and Midra's flame of frenzy, but yeah a lot of what's been added in the dlc weapon, spell, and talisman wise feels very half-assed. Like they put in some things to have them or had neat ideas but didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of balancing so they just played it safe and made most things watered down and lackluster. So only about 40% of what's there is of any real use or fun to play with.
I feel a need to confess this somewhere so here goes: I beat the final boss by using heal from afar on taylew the golem smith and cowering in fear a mile away from every attack. It wasn’t as easy as it may sound (it still took over 10 attempts and many attacks are still hard to dodge) but I still felt like I had somehow broken the game a little.
I never used it because I renounced using Spirit Ashes as a whole, but as soon as I saw those stone golems being summonable (and the description specifically mentioning the ranged fist attacks), I knew it'd be way too good. Especially with a healing spell.
For Bayle's Flame Lightning, you can actually cancel the recovery animation with another cast, preferably something fast, like beast sling. I bet internally it was intended to be like Dragonclaw in more ways than one, so they let you just cast immediately after the impact.
Ok, Rusty, you’ve had your fun. Now go rank all of Igon’s different voice lines. He’s got like, three different line deliveries for “CURSE YOU BAYLE”, and I wanna see how they stack up against each other
Midra's strongest application seems to be proccing madness for Aged One's Exultation or any other gear that provides a DMG bonus on Madness since it has the fastest madness build up of any frenzy spell.
Fun thing about the big furnace guy at about 12:50. You can just jump in through the back of the wall. I didnt even know about the trick until I saw it on youtube
There are so many baffling design decisions in this DLC, but one of the more bewildering ones is that there are MULTIPLE incants that seemingly only exist for passive area suppression in pvp invasions- and even then would only work if they panic roll and don't know how little damage they'd eat by just ignoring it
The guy you get Aspect of the Crucible Bloom from obviously died because he actually tried to cast in combat and got stabbed 487 times during the windup animation.
heal from afar has great sinergy with the mimic tear it will use it like a attack spell meaning as long as you stay near the boss or enemy it will heal you very regularly. used it against the final boss and mimic used it like five times in a row ones fullhealing me and even healing itself by around half its hp. the aoe effect also lingers a bit meaning if you can see it you can often just run into it and get the healing.
The Pest Spears spell is what got me through Bayle. I think it counts as multiple hits when it passes through different parts of him. It was doing minimum 1600 damage but usually around 4000 damage with each cast.
17:40 Another tip for Messmer's Orb, very fast uncharged cast time, really good for dealing with groups of weaker enemies as a "get-away-from-me" option, since the explosion pushes smaller enemies and staggers bigger ones pretty easily. With proper building (I.E. 80+ faith + fire scorpion charm + good seal), can easily reach 2300-3400 damage uncharged

It was like that on the testing, but according to youwu it made the pcs drop to much frames so they changed it
@@Jd_castillo they didn't change the final boss, so I call bull
@@vyor8837presumably there were new issues from testing to launch. Fucking up the finale to your most popular game of all time *twice* without even testing it would be a new low for Fromsoft. It’s still abysmal, though.
The first time I used the rain of fire, my thoughts were "huh. maybe I respecced and forgot" then checked, and I still had 80 faith. It's damage is worse than a single cast of catch flame.
After the buff it's actually very decent against group of enemies at a reasonable range. I used it quite a lot in the DLC.
I love how the rotton butterfly, well, butterflies will still drop if you get hit out of it. I genuinely love seeing people in PvP hitting me out of it and then getting hit by a barrage of deathly butterflies (they just took 200 damage and might have gotten scarlet rot)
They probably won't get rot since the buildup isn't quite enough.
It's better to just use the Aeonia. Now that's something I never thought I'd say.

Can't wait to find out about some new incantations that are locked behind two NPC questlines, a secret legacy dungeon and a secret remembrance boss
That will only happen if From Software decides to add stuff to the DLC in patches. Unfortunately, the DLC was datamined to hell and back this time around. @@seriphan399 It takes the heat death of the universe to explore it too, only for there to be nothing.
pest thread spears are INSANE against anything omen sized or more. due to the fact that they are slow moving and linger after hitting their target, they can easily get some follow up hits in for some wild damage.
Bayle and the furnace golems gets absolutely shredded by it too
i would go as far to say its better for clearing out dragons than the dedicated dragon killing weapons
Me and my homies love Pest Thread Spears. It has replaced Pest Threads for me. It shreads
You got way more benefit from this if you raise your mind around 35 and the cast itself are as quick as you drinking your flask ( if you put radagons icon that is )
Ive seen people got carried in multiplayer, mainly because theyre literally cant stop healing themselves thanks to this
It heals for the same amount as Lord's Heal, can be used at range, has a lower FP cost than Lord's Heal, and has faster casting speed than Lord's Heal. Basically a direct upgrade to Lord's Heal
Really bizzare there isn't an "Aspects of the Crucible: Frog" considering that one attack Black Knight Garrew has.
I seem to remember people saying the exact same things about difficulty in every other fromsoft DLC too. The scadurtree blessings are probably the only thing saving us from getting turned into raw meat dumplings by every other boss.
Damage dealt to the player is worse here, that much I'll say. And yes, that is with all the fragments.
That and the AoE spam. It's all flashy with no substance now.
@@asdergold1there’s only a few aoe moves that u can’t dodge (u just gotta run). Which is a fair criticism, but most of the aoes are very easy to dodge.
@@suru2915 It's not a fair criticism that bosses requiring other methods of avoiding attacks than dodging is bad lol. They should've included more attacks that required jumping and running, base game included. Being able to handle everything with a well-timed roll gets boring.

You gotta appreciate how Elden Ring gives you Chlorokinesis/powers of DC's Poison Ivy that just ends up sucking like a Broken Sword Hilt.
Excited to learn about some new incantations that are hidden behind two NPC questlines, a remembrance boss, and a secret legacy dungeon.
The good'ol "time to wait for a year to fix it!"
Heal from afar is super good at clearing revenants, easy stun from distance and run up to finish off, probably my fav heal incantation because of that
Unironically believable that that is why they added that incantation
Sometimes I forget how miserable their existence is
I didn't actually think it'd work on them (Not sure why.) and then I caught one by accident while trying to heal. Nope, now we just get to carry around anti-revanant nukes.
Honestly you’ve become my favorite Elden Ring information source.
I thought I was almost done with my blind play through but you've shown half a dozen things that I've missed. Back to the skidoo tree I go!
I'm convinced the whole point of Rain of Fire was to make us look at Elden Stars and go "At least it's not as bad as Rain of Fire"
Out of everything I've done in the DLC so far, I've only come across two things that I considered blatantly unfair:
Theres another boss even worse than Gauis and does it in both their phases. Enjoy!
@@secretlyaslug2325 istg you can't even see them 80% of the time

They are gonna need to patch in a LOT of balance and typing for all the spells.
Half of them don't work with the base game spell boosting effects.
I don't think a SINGLE dlc spell works with Godfreys icon. And nether do the spell type boosts from base game staves and seals. They added like 4 new death spells and not a single one is boosted by the prince of death staff.
Honestly, several spells don’t work at ALL
Yesterday I did testing the damage of Knight's lightning spear with multiple talisman for comparison and I was shocked how small the damage differences are when using Godfrey icon and without it, there's difference but not even close to 5%
@@VSN-wb2ly possible that specifically may be because it only effects the main bolt, not the side bolts, which would have it make very little difference

They always fuck up everything
"Oh wow this spell looks fantastic!
"That rat is completely still" as the rat moves towards him unimpeded
That light of miquella spell is bugged and doesn't get any buffs whatsoever from the circlet of life or the seal.
With how shortly after the release of SotE this video dropped, there is no way that not a single one of these impressions is going to change with time.
Day 17 of asking Rusty to rank every enemy in Elden Ring. If you could rank all the weapons, the enemies should be no issue for you. The DLC is already out, so you might as well include enemies from there as well.

@@abrupt9090 it really sucks because it's my one of my favourite looking incantations in the dlc, probably even the game.

damage negation becomes more potent the more negation you have. if a boss 2 shots you at 0 negation, itll 4 shot at 50%, 8 shot at 75% and 16 shot at 87.5%
as long as your blessing levels are good, damage negation spells like the protection spells and florisax's blessing are actually really significant increases to your durability
(it usually isn't as most anything in the DLC worth a salt is hitting for 1000+ damage per hit, so adding another 190 EHP ontop of the ~5000 you're running around with with normal'ish armor and good blessing levels does very little)
The big issue with Florisax's blessing is that Golden Vow is both easier to get and gives you the same, lasts longer, AND boosts damage.
and with the new tanky talisman (forget the name), you get like 70% dmg negation if you’re overweight, making iron jar aromatic kind of nuts
@@JinFreeks you're thinking of systems like armor in dota 2 and league, whereas er's damage negation is a straightforward stacking multiplier. when you get +10% extra negation, that's really just adding an extra x0.9 step in the damage calculation, meaning you get x1.11 effective hp _based on your previous effective hp._ which means there's no actual distinction between 11% extra hp and 10% damage negation for every damage type, other than the fact that damage negation also affects effective hp from healing
hell, this is why gino's defense run even worked. if all the armor and buffs he was using were only providing like +17% to +33% of his base hp as effective hp, he'd only end up taking around half as much damage as a usual run because stacking them all together wouldn't break far past +100% ehp, which is half damage. which is a far cry from the paper cut damage he was taking in the vid. like, he was regularly reaching 90% negation even before getting the end game stuff, which would be +900% ehp and if you'll notice, that would require stacking _nine_ different 50% damage negation sources under the system you're proposing
@@hi-i-am-atan Apparently it is. Good to know. You never stop learning something new every now and then.
Not that it massively changes my stance on 10% worth of negation, but it does make it a lot better.
bear communion is a reference to a bug in a previous patch where runebears dropped dragon hearts
I made it to the final boss and have all 9 remembrances from the others.....that means the difficulty is balanced because I suck. It was so beautiful. Like Dark Souls in Elden Ring. Now this final boss I just need to learn some more of their moves.

Finally finished the DLC and now I can watch your newest videos without spoiling anything for myself 👍
Fire serpent, man that tracking was a live saver in scadutree fight. Honestly fell in love after that. So useful
He’s got like, three different line deliveries for “CURSE YOU BAYLE”, and I wanna see how they stack up against each other
I agree on the Frenzied Flame Dragon. I also wish they gave us a BloodFlame/ Formless Dragon.
Midra's strongest application seems to be proccing madness for Aged One's Exultation or any other gear that provides a DMG bonus on Madness since it has the fastest madness build up of any frenzy spell.
All dls spells can explane like :"It is cool looks, but you wont use it"
Fun thing about the big furnace guy at about 12:50.
Fun fact: wrath from afar works on Malenia
You were very kind to the butterfly spell.
Midra's flame is bad, but the frenzy laser is my fave. Nothing else is as good at sniping.
I haven't tested it but having a ranged healing spell sounds like the ultimate middle finger to revenants
heal from afar has great sinergy with the mimic tear it will use it like a attack spell meaning as long as you stay near the boss or enemy it will heal you very regularly. used it against the final boss and mimic used it like five times in a row ones fullhealing me and even healing itself by around half its hp. the aoe effect also lingers a bit meaning if you can see it you can often just run into it and get the healing.
I never felt so disappointed in my life before trying rain of fire on random weak enemies and seeing it doing absolutely nothing
The Pest Spears spell is what got me through Bayle. I think it counts as multiple hits when it passes through different parts of him. It was doing minimum 1600 damage but usually around 4000 damage with each cast.
The only real issue I have is a few bosses are too aggressive and start charging you the moment you interact with the fog door. It's a bit much.
Rain of fire got a massive buff
The frenzy spell is probably a lot better if you intentionally proc madness on yourself with the madness talisman to buff your damage
Better off using deadly poison perfume bottle with poison hands, mushroom crown and rot talisman since it instantly procs on one ash of war use
SO GOOD BRO. YOUR THE BEST!
The best incantation from the new dlc “CUUUURSE YOU BAAAYLE.”
