    I own a lot of Novation synths and if I have found one thing to be true, it is that Novation doesn't stop improving their products until they are brilliant, and these units are really getting there.

    This was an ode to beautifully mixing digital control and analog sound generation: the fact that it was discontinued baffles me. I would have thought it would have been as successful as the original circuit.

      I will never sell mine.

      I bought one a week ago! Love it!
      The second value seems a bit low, but good for me. And yes will look up the manual and read it.

    One of the best reviews of this unique synth. Thanks.

    Great review, one of the deepest for this gear ! I like how you made the frequencies as visual along the test. Keep going on & thank you.

    Great review! I recently purchased the Mono Station (lightly used) for $250. Naturally I didn't get the manual with it, so I have been experimenting with the Mono Station, working my way into it. Thanks to your video, I now know how to use some of its features. My impression of the synth, to date is: Pros - 1) It sounds really good, very meaty, which plays well with my existing Moog rig. 2) The variable-state filter is pretty impressive. 3) The sequencer has much potential for me since it can control my Mother 32s and DFAM via CV. 4) The MIDI implementation is solid (this was a problem with early Novation Circuits). 5) I play live and the compact size helps setup and the LEDs make it easy to use in on dark stage. The Cons are few: 1) That "on-off" switch is a pain to find and push. 2) A little OLED display (see Korg's Monologue) explaining what mode you are in would have been useful. 3) They had enough room to put full DIN MIDI connectors in, but went with those dongles.

      @@robtronik i believe so. I saw novation was selling them for less than i bought mine used not too long ago.

      It is still available from Novation in Germany, but seems to have disappeared from some online shops. I don't know if they actually discontinued it or are just low in stock.

    I kinda hope Novation comes out with a circuit pro that combines all these sound shaping options and updates modern sequencing options we are seeing into a killer fun box to make music on - combo mono analogue synth and digital synth options in one box with sampling capability. Minds could be blown!! 😂

    Klasse Video. Ich hatte den Vorgänger den ich werden seiner Batterie und dem Lautsprecher geschätzt hatte. Das fehlt der Monostation leider scheinbar. Gerade auf Tournee und als Papa im Sandkasten schätze ich die Freiheit die ich durch Akai MPClive, OP1, den POxx, Gecho, den Yamaha Cs1 und diversen anderen Batteriedriven Synthesizer habe. Liebe Grüße aus Potsdam

      Danke! Batterien wären cool gewesen, aber bei analogen gibts dann schnell Probleme mit der Stimmstabilität.

    What if I want to put an external reverb on one oscillator and not on the other one?

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I can’t try, as I don’t have the synth anymore. But I do not remember it having separate outputs for the oscillators, so you would have to record them individually one after the other if you wanted to apply different effects to them.

  • @CaidicusProductions

    Great review, Dacci. They only sent you the synth for two weeks? That's not very nice. Here's hoping at least they give you a huge discount on one, if you want to buy one. :P

    • @CaidicusProductions
      @CaidicusProductions 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top half has a lot in common with the Novation Peak. Looks like a neat device. Out of curiosity, do you think there'd be any reason to buy one of these if I already have a Peak?

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Caid Johnson All is good, I am very happy to receive review units to make videos for you guys. Novation were very helpful :)

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Caid Johnson I asked myself the same and actually think it could be a useful addition. I’m thinking of layering both to get some of that raw, beefy analogue goodness into the mix. I will most likely end up getting both and make a video about it 😅

    • @CaidicusProductions
      @CaidicusProductions 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dacci Pucci well, if you do mix the two, make sure to post your outcome on TH-cam, I'd love to hear it.

      in my vstplugins folder which I set in Ableton prefs, and rescanned. But for some reason it won't show up on Ableton Thanks again!

    I have this beast since a while, but today, I learned a new thing or two!
    Initially, I also found the sharing of controls for both oscillators confusing, but once I got used to the handling of the Mono Station, it was okay. The color coding makes it pretty easy to not mess things up, and generally, I find the Mono Station very intuitive. Along with the Roland TR-8S, it's the machine with the lowest learning curve (for me, personally), and I found it pretty easy to get pleasing results pretty quick. Love having it in my setup, and I haven't found something I'd consider a good replacement, so far.

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a unique machine, kind of sad they don’t make it anymore.

      @@XanderEwald Oh, I did not know that. Guess I'm lucky I still got one, then... even more so since I was originally looking for a Circuit, but there was a French company which sold the Mono Station on eBay for a rather insane discount, compared to the normal price, back then. So, I grabbed one. No regrets, so far. :)
