to be fair ... Star Wars, Back to the Future and Pirats of the Caribbean the Movies were a one Movie deal, the Storys for Part 2 and 3 came later. With LorR the full Story was already there from the Start.
It's important to note that Gandalf isn't human. He's essentially and angel/minor deity, sent in a human body to help guide and advise the people of Middle Earth

Haldír in shambles

Its a good addition to the Helm's Deep part but does not happen in the books
Well they were correct since they are sadly watching the theatrical cuts and as such are missing a lot of context. Haldir is insignificant without the extended editions.
But like another xomment said, the "real" Haldir in the books is never said to have died during the war, since the elves never went to HD, because Lorien, Mirkwood, Beorn's people, Erebor and Dale where all busy fighting Mordor and Dol Guldur invading the lands seen in The Hobbit, because the War of The Ring was not limited to south and south-east Middle-Earth.
No one ever cries over Haldir death scene, and there is a good reason why.
The elves and dwarves were both fighting orcs on different fronts but they have no way to convey that in the movie without shoehorning it in their so the elves showing up to help is a nice cinematic way of representing that.

Something I learned recently that blew me away. Many of the riders of Rohan were women with exceptionaly well done makeup and fake facial hair. It was easier to find female riders because horseback riding is a predominantly female sport.
Interesting. Someone I've also noticed is that I know way more women who love horses than men. Don't know why that is.

Viggo Mortensen grew up on a ranch in Argentina. He knows horses. In order to really bond with the horse in the movie, he actually slept in the stable.
Just a couple of stallions having a sleepover.
And he bought three of the horses from the production after the last movie. He gifted one of them to Arwen's stunt double as she had bonded with it, but couldn't afford it.

Edoras was in fact a real place. The film crew constructed the town upon that hill amongst the mountains in the South Island of NZ. Nothing remained after the filming had concluded as the crew dismantled the town and made sure they left the area as they found it. This was done in order to preserve the environment and its natural beauty.
Not the whole town. The big hall and some houses and part of the wall. All other buildings where digitally added.
Not to mention that the Golden Hall was actually used as an administration office because it was the only solidly built place free from the wind in the area for the second unit.
Just the exteriors were made. All the interiors were shot on sound stages.
They went so far to not harm the horses, the nature, etc that the tree that the orcs take down in Isengard when they start building the army is fake.
Unlike rings of power, where one of the horses died. Good thing it’s just fanfic written by modern writers, that means we miss nothing by not watching it :)
They removed moss from the rocks, then re-placed it afterwards, since it is a protected area.
Sam's quote about great stories is one of my favorites. It's so meta and meaningful. The stories we fall in love with as kids really do shape us, LOTR, Hobbit, Harry Potter, fairytales, Starwars, classics, horror... And not all, but a lot of those stories carry the lessons of "good" and "strength." The fact that one of the characters who does this for so many admits to also being influenced in this way is really touching, and it feels like Tolkien is speaking in that moment.

There are several scenes that give me same vibe.
This Sam quote, Gendalf's "Can you give the life?", Gendalf words about "this is not the end" and golden shores, Sam and Frodo "Do you remember..." at the end of their journey.

The actor who played Aragorn had the idea for Brego, the horse he set free, to kneel down to save Aragorn. He spent months training the horse to gently lie down beside him so that scene could be in the movie.

There was just so much preparation for months and years before filming that production companies don't allow for anymore because they figure they can release 3 or 4 movies in the time it takes to make one of these and they will make more money combined first weekend so it doesn't matter. It took 8 years total for the three films to be produced. They had armorers forging real armor, people planting the crops in the shire months ahead of time, etc. Now they just add that stuff in with CGI and call it a day and it looks terrible.

Every time I see the theatrical release for two towers, I just remember the deleted scene for Faramir and Boromir.

Not watching the extended is almost criminal
The theatricals are fine for first-time viewers, some of the extended scenes really should've been left on the cutting board. The scene with Faramir and Boromir should've been left, and the seen in RotK with Saruman should've been left in, but a lot of others are just fluff that nerds will like and normal people will just wonder why it's there.

Girls reaction to Gandalf's return was one of the sweetest things I've seen amongst the reactions to LOTR. A lot of people are holding back from being upset when he "dies" and start to intellectualize instead of just reacting to the story and when he comes back they would say that they knew he wasn't dead all a long. Great for them, i guess, but not fun if you watch a reaction and want to see some genuine emotions.

While Haldir is greeting Aragorn, Elvish soldiers didnt respond anything..But..While Legolas and Haldir greet each other, at that exact moment Elvish soldiers return to them and do respectful military standing salute. Because Legolas is the son and heir of King Thranduil. He is the prince of the Elven kingdom of Mirkwood. And the elves have great respect for the dynasty
The Noldor looked down on the other Elves but Haldir might have been Nandor or Silvan and most of his archers would have been Silvan like the subjects of Legolas father.
Not sure about that. The elves of rivendell and lothlorien are noldorin, while the elves of mirkwood are sindarion, who the noldor consider to be lower class, to put it mildly. The noldor definitely consider the sindar to be the hillbillies of the elven world.

@@tileuxthere were few Noldor in Lothlórien because Galadriel and Celeborn were leading mostly Sindar Elves and in Lothlórien there were Sindar and Silvan elves when they become the rulers.
Also, not all Noldor thought less of Sindar. In fact they were few and mostly from Fëanor's people
The thing about Elrond is that he IS a half-elf. Half-elves in this universe can basically choose to become fully elf and retain their immortality or choose their human half and become mortal. Elrond chose his elven heritage while his brother became human and died a long time ago, and now Elrond's children have the same choice. He knows that if Arwen chooses a mortal life then she will die in the blink of an eye and he will never see her again.
Well, technically, only the line of Beren and Lúthien receive this privilege, since Lúthien gave up her immortality for Beren (Aragorn in the first movie: "She died.") This was a special divine dispensation-it also involved restoring Beren's life, for a time. It is hinted that there were other mortal lines with an 'elvish strain', notably Imrahil of Dol Amroth, that are nevertheless considered human.

The average lifespan of a Numenorean at their height was 500 years maximum! Now remember too that half elves are a common thing and whenever they did come together it was always significant !❤❤❤
Remember this is the SHORT version, there are so many moving parts that will make you want to dive into the books or the audio books or even do reaction videos to the famous lore videos by the biggest lore channels out there!
When you’re done the trilogy try doing reaction videos just like Moviejoob did now with the lore recently as well as OmarioRPG. I recommend videos by GirlNextGondor and The Red Book, and Tolkien Untangled and especially Men Of The West.

But if you want a more true age you must realize that he may be 8000 but in human years after the sun and moon were created from the flower from of the two trees of Valinor as well as one fruit from the other of the two trees; they experience the TIME and the way men experience it but their clock is different! Think of when Legolas walked ontop of all that snow on the Mountain of Caradhras!! They continue to endure as long ad the world itself does. If you look back on the original trilogy movies: The fellowship had a 3000year old Elven PRINCE in their party. And a clandestine angelic being who was Gandalf originally known Olòrin to those such as Galadriel who knew him when she lived in Valinor, Elrond also knew would be one of the only others who’d know this save Círdan The Shipwright(one of the surviving eldest Elf in the world.).

Galadriel's Phial (gift to Frodo) is something really special. light & dark have a spiritual dimension in Tolkien. way back before the First Age Valinor was lit by two very special Trees that waxed & waned in opposition to each other. a master craftsman Elf named Fëanor fashioned three gems that captured their light, the Silmarils. (And it’s same power and light was drawn into it from the very firmament where it now stands amongst the stars as Eärendil himself (Elrond’s father stands watch over The Doors Of Night where Melkor still is held until fate holds him no longer.)
Everyone who saw them was captivated by them, even the Melkor(Morgoth); the first Dark Lord. Wars were fought over them called the Kinstrife after Morgoth had the Trees destroyed the Silmarils were the only light from them left and he stole them as you may remember,
they changed hands a few times & eventually one was left after one fell into the sea & another was lost in a pit of magma. a Half Elf named Eärendil (the first one! Who was Elrond’s father.) came into its possession & sailed it to Valinor as a gift to the Valar to ask for their help in defeating Morgoth, which they did. the Valar turned it into a star & hung it in the sky with Eärendil as its guardian.

The fountain of Galadriel's
Mirror is lit by light captured from the star Eärendil & her Phial has water from the fount. I've left out about 90% of the story but it's quite important & central to the story of Middle Earth. for her to give the Phial to Frodo is quite extraordinary. its light does burn & blind Shelob (that's the spider's name) but doesn't kill her outright. oh also, before he was put in the sky to guard the last Silmaril Earendil had two children, Elrond & his brother Elros the first King of Numenor. Tolkien's lore is deep & vast & the Silmarils are at the center of it.

The Star of Eärendil is the light that shines in the horizon both in the morning and the evening. It consists in a boat raised by the Valar and led by Eärendil, who carries a shining Silmaril while watching the Doors of Night. The Door of Night was a portal in the distant Uttermost West that leads to heaven, and/or the Void. Eärendil's ship Vingilot was taken by the Valar from the rim of the world, passed through the Door and was lifted into the "oceans of heaven". PS: Eärendil is ELROND’s half Vanyar Elf half human father, that father was the son of the great Tuor of the great stories of The Children Of Húrin book!❤❤❤❤
Aragorn is a CLOSE descendant of a direct bloodline to Elros(Elrond’s Twin Brother)
The title of half elven (Peredhel) was due to the combined history of Beren&Lúthien, his mother Elwing was the granddaughter of Lùthien! Eärendil was the husband of Elwing. The true half elf; son of the best elvish women ever who rescued hundreds from the highest of elvish kingdoms(Gondolin); her name is Idril & one of the best most powerful men around named Tuor. Who later on when they went to Valinor together through their own way lead to him choosing to be counted as One Of The Eldar for Idril. Eärendil did the same for Elwing. ❤

Bernard Hill who plays King Theoden, passed away earlier this year. I never met the man, but watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy on a yearly basis, made us feel like those characters, and actors, were part of our family. So to have this wonderful actor pass on, is really emotional. It's also bringing to light the reality of death. The living are now fading into legend, Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, the director of photography, Andrew Leslie, and now Bernard Hill.
It's never too late to convert, so happy for you guys

Me: Did you learn nothing? One of the main themes of Tolkien's philosophy is mercy.
Galadriel also backs him up on that last point (in reference to the mirror). “Even the wisest cannot tell.” That realization of there always being more at play than can truly be reckoned by any (possibly including even Eru in some circumstances) is great wisdom in itself.
It's their 1st watch, give them a break
I think this is just a side effect of growing up on modern media rather than classical tales of heroism. The modern nihilistic view of the world that is so prevalent in modern media has really shaped how a lot of people think
From the look at the camera for the kicking the helmet scene and the reaction the girls gave to seeing Gandalf coming back, subscribing.
The extended edition contains, among many other scenes, a beautiful flashback scene with Faramir, Boromir and their father nobody who loves Boromir should NEVER miss! I hope you could watch also the extended editions of the three movies, sooner or later; they are in some way a complete different movie.
Peter Jackson wanted people to see the extended (uncut) versions in the theatres, but Harvey Weinstein stopped him. In fact, Harvey wanted just ONE movie in the threatres, not a trilogy. 5 years of court proceedings - and the 'harvey weinstein orc" in return of the king (made at Jackson's specific direction) was the result.
Too many people don’t realize they are arguing in favour of a version of this movies that was only shown in theatres because of legal reasons - not for artistic reasons.

Peter Jackson’s passion project team was forced to not show their full content as it would cut into what the cinema CEOs literally called the theatrical edition to get more screen time in and more mulla for themselves. It’s a such a nasty business. 80 percent true that money be the root of all evil. It’s the reason the real pumped out the EE as fast as possible in DVD format before the second and third film hit theatres to get back at Harvey Weinstein, again, they wanted people to see the whole movie which invites feelings of completion in one’s heart.
But he just announced that’s he found 1300 hours worth of footage from a warehouse he finally got access to so we will see more specially made super extended edition cinema extravaganzas that no cinema would pass on the opportunity to ride on his coattails again.
The EE wasn’t just for fans. He literally was adapting the books to film as honestly as possible. the DVD documentaries showed that they didn’t want to cut anything. And weaselled around things to create the EE. (EE is extended edition by the way! ❤️).
Without the extended for the next two films I always say “Good luck missing the Boromir backstory. Good luck explaining why the cloak turns into a rock. Good luck explaining the elves that had explained their current situation since the first film.
It all ties together good luck skipping the gift scene with Galadriel and Celeborn and the extra scenes between Aragorn and Celeborn & Galadriel to Aragorn!”
It’s seriously needed for the film worldbuilding and heightening the stakes. Also, I’d rather have faith people have the emotional and intellectual IQ high enoug to understand it or shall we have changed the title to something else same as how JK was forced to change the title in America to sorcerers stone instead of PHILOSPHER as Americans don’t even know what a Philospher is anymore these days which is sad. Relating to that: Tolkien was very sad about people losing connection to their past and heritage etc!
The extended edition adds so much more to Boromir's character! You get such a better sense of the type of person that he was, and why his people loved him, and it adds to his tragic death in the first movie. Definitely part of the reason why I always recommend the extended editions to people who haven't seen it yet.
So, the Battle of Helm's Deep took 3 months to film, used 2,000 extras, they did it at night while it was raining plus they had to use some artificial rain on shots. The filming logistics had to be absolutely insane. 2-3 hours to apply the makeup for a single actor if being close to the camera shot. I hope y'all watch the making of these movies because it's insane. As an example, to make the chain mail for the LOTR movies, two guys spent over two years linking rings into chain mail. Altogether, they used 12.5 million rings and each chainmail contained 80,000 rings.
“Until at last I through down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountain side” is such a great line.
Everybody needs a Sam in their life. He's a GOAT not because he's your typical hero, but just by staying beside his friend through & thin makes him so true.

Gimli is on the back of the horse because dwarves and horses tend not to mix. He doesn’t know how to control one. Dwarves culture does not need a lot of horses underground. They use ponies sometimes for wagons and such, but they have little use for horses. They are extremely hardy, have unparalleled endurance, and would much rather get to and fro using their own two legs. That’s how Gimli was able to keep up with Legolas and Aragorn on the run. Love to see the younger generations fall in love with this story. ❤🇨🇦👍🏼
Just FYI, the movie actually does Faramir dirty. In the books, he is not tempted by the ring at all. He's on the same level of honor as Aragorn in that regard. He's lived in the shadow of his brother, which you will see in the next movie, and so he already knows the deceit of power. He aids Frodo once he knows who he is and his task. Taking him and the ring to Gondor was never an option in his mind.
While I love the movies, this was my chief complaint when they came out. I, and many others, were offended at this change, as it is slanderous to Faramir's character.
I agree, but I see why they did it. Everyone so far has been tempted by the ring and when it's this condensed it would be very jarring if someone suddenly wasn't even tempted. It's sort of required for narrative consistency, they do that to every character who gets a reason to be tempted.
The ents also were made to look dumber and hastier than they were in the books. They never hesitatedto go to war after the ent-moot.
I agree. Peter Jackson probably wanted to highlight Aragorn as honorable, virtuous and strong, and that Faramir being tempted by the Ring was to reinforce the fact that all men are easily corrupted by it. I just don't think that portraying Faramir correctly would've taken away from Aragorn too much.
They also changed Aragon as well, I like movie Aragon more than book. In the book he had little conflict with his heritage and wanted the throne. Movie Aragon has a better character arc to accept who he is and his destiny. It made his journey more rewarding to me.
This is the same write-by-the-manual reasoning that was applied to Aragorn. Characters are required to have 'character arcs' and so Aragorn must begin as the Reluctant King and claim his kingship (and sword) much later in the story. Similarly, Faramir has to start by taking Frodo to his father, and only reach the point of rejecting the Ring later, after an added (and, from a plot standpoint, pointless) excursion to Osgiliath ("By rights, we shouldn't even be here" may be an acknowledgment that this was a Jackson invention). I suppose I can understand why Jackson felt there had to be a story beat here, but book-Faramir has a sort of signature line, spoken twice, "I would not take this thing, if it lay by the highway." Jackson could have redeemed his treatment of Faramir a bit by giving him this book line at the end.
Oddly (weak spoilers), Jackson later slanders Denethor, who is already one of the book's more complex characters, one whose motivations are subtle, by reducing him to a one-note nuisance.

Yep. So much of boromir’s and saruman’s stories are lost in these short versions. Plus the revenge of fangorn forest and lots of great scenes with orcs.

I read that on one of the "mountaintop cities" they removed the native vegetation and kept it alive in greenhouses. When filming was done, they removed the set and put the native vegetation back where it had been. Very cool.

For some reason, Jackson chose not to portray what Tolkien called 'perhaps the most tragic moment' in the story (and Sam's moment of failure):

Neat bit of technical trivia - the motion capture technology developed for this trilogy was a huge leap forward for the whole VFX industry, but they still couldn't get Gollum's mouth animations to look right when trying to use the mo-cap data from Andy Serkis' mouth movements. So instead, they VFX crew animated every single frame of Gollum's mouth BY HAND to ensure it looked as realistic as possible. That's one of the reasons for why the overall VFX for the character of Gollum still looks so dang good despite being two and a half decades old.

I’m glad to see a younger generation appreciate a story like this. People these days seem more interested in flashy effects, sexuality, etc., but if you notice about Jackson’s trilogy, there’s no sexuality, not a single swear word, but it is a story that features the best of humanity who are facing insurmountable odds, despair, fear, etc., yet put aside their differences to fight alongside one another to fight a common evil.
LOTR is exactly how to feature heroes, decency, courtesy, and show how goodness truly is the greatest tool to bring others together and to defeat the enemies of that goodness.

You will never find a better story than this. (Also, the book was better, and I still praise these movies as great)

The Battle of Helm's deep is amazing. Even though Haldir didn't die at Helm's Deep in the books. His death scene is still so sad
Totally. And considering immortality vs mortality is a major theme of the books, it helps invoke that theme even if most of the material in the books had to be left out.

J R R Tolkien (author of LOTR) was a Veteran of WW 1 and saw many friends die in the war. It stayed with him all his life...all the horrors he witnessed...the area of the death marshes was a "recall of the horrors of the battlefields" he saw during the war. he never forgot it.
@@user-hd5ew9tb8d The part about the dead marshes includes Legolas’ Father; Thranduil, & grandfather Oropher, were to join the Last Alliance in from a different angle to achieve a certain war tactic but Oropher and others got waylayed by orcs & many corrupted men which lead to eventually Oropher dying there, this loss effected Legolas’s father so very deeply forevermore.
The bond between he and his son is the same bond Thranduil has with Legolas. And the braid he wears is to honour his grandfather. I believe after his death braids became less common. A sort of respect thing I believe.

Both his father and Grandfather lived in Doriath(Elu Thingol’s domain[Elwë], which was heartbea of middle earth; Aside from Gondolin which held this mantle until it’s secret location was given up by a tortured elf who was the son of a very important mother who was the sister of the high king Turgon).
All on a landmass called Beleriand that sunk under the sea after a set of disastrous events that lead to many greater outcomes much later on in the legendarium.

This here is a whole set of stories of which also includes a quite a bit of Galadriel too but moreso other characters during this era. Of Beren And Lùthien comes to mind and Children Of Hurin!! You’ll fall in love even more after the third movie. Then you can enter into the lore videos like Moviejoob and OmarioRPG have done reaction videos too. Amazing stuff.
One thing to add though is this scene resembles a lot from the other battle Tolkien was involved in called The Battle Of Somme. Look into it and tell me your thoughts.
I’ll add something here though: that clan of elves really didn’t like being under the command of anyone else so they went ahead without the order and let’s just say it didn’t end well. That and they weren’t fond of the Ñoldor… huge history there as to why that is. That and the Sindar subgroup of these clans were a tiny bit more isolationist.
But there are many amazing Sindar in the legendarium too Elrond and his two sons and daughter are connected to all of the main clans of men and elves through the union of his half elf father and full elf(quarter goddess) mother. Who essentially played a huge role in saving the world from the original dark lord Morgoth. Gained the Favour Of Valinor.
Which subsequently lead to Numenor being a gift from the sea to the men who helped. Becoming blessed. Their land existing within the light of Valinor as it was situated closely to The Undying Lands. (The same ancestry Aragorn has that Èowyn spoke of while they were travelling to Helm’s Deep! (Elrond’s Twin Brother became the first king of Númenor.
His name becoming Tar-Minyatur, and those faithful to Eru, the elves and the natural world all of this line carried Tar before their name! Ar for Aragorn is the word meaning Noble in his tongue called Adúnaic. That too is a fleshed out language Tolkien created too. Elvish languages also were placed into the official list of world languages too!
During the filming of the battle of helms deep, many of the New Zealander actors and stuntmen who played the Urak kai, before one of the takes, lined up in front of the guys playing the defenders, and performed a traditional Māori Haka, a challenge given before battle, just like the All blacks rugby team does before games. So far no one has found the footage of this sadly, but it would be awesome to see 😊
Viggo was also given a haka after his last day of shooting. He then responded with giving a headbutt to everyone there...

The sword Gandalf wielded caused the Balrog’s primordial sword to burst into a rain of molten lava in an almost majestic way. It too belong to high elven king Turgon of the great hidden realm of Gondolin, surrounded by tallest mountains. Named Glamdring; meaning “Foe Hammer”. Gandalf broke the balrog’s unholy weapon. Epic right?
His original staff broke when he let some of his true powers show to grant a miracle from his own life force. This is the same thing for how the elves do “magic” Galadriel herself tells Frodo and Sam that things elves do may seem like magic but they don’t really use such a word since they are one with the world, symbiotic with it if the world perished so would they.
Just so you know; the balrog and Gandalf fought for 10 days straight. Then eldrich terrors(nameless things) assailed them both and they begrudgingly fought them off together and Gandalf resumed his chase of the balrog up the endless stairs of Dúrin’s Tower where they fought up at the top of ZirakZigil
Gandalf was given the ring of fire (Narya) by one of the oldest remaining elves from the first clans to wake beneath the stars before the sun and moon ever existed; at the Cuiviènen river named Círdan. Its best attribute was it raises the spirits of those who wear it. Bolstering internal strength and so forth. He knew it would aid Gandalf in his quest from the Valar and Eru Îlluvatar (the one AllFather) themselves to bolster the spirits of the free peoples of middle earth and to sow seeds of hope within the hearts of Men, Elves and Dwarves alike.

You beauties, I literally watched the last video yesterday and was sad that the next one wasn't out yet, I am so glad I checked today, I love seeing people fall in love with the world of The Lord of the Rings, gonna enjoy every moment, hope the conversion of these haters is going well! 🤣
For me, the biggest difference between the two movies is that the first shows the natural order of the world, as it should be in Tolkien's mind, and the second shows the corruption of the manufacturing world of Isengard. There is also so much more character building, through symbolism, Aragorn: coming into his legacy. Sam: showing the loyalty and love he has for Frodo. Frodo: Seeing the corruption of the ring. Legolas and Gimily: two races that have been in war for years coming together. Theoden: being saved from darkness and seeing the shame he has in himself (hint this is big). Gandalf: giving a glimps into the greater world or the World even beyond Middle Earth. Frodo's relationship with Gollum: relates back to Bilbo and Gollum.
Overall, this movie builds a lot of tension between the first and the third movies. The ladies have mentioned wanting to read the books which will help them appreciate the more subtle references that are in the movies. The movies do well for the time they had and they were able to make reference to so much in the books that casual watchers would not notice. These movies are truly incredible and I am really looking forward to seeing the reaction the to 3rd.

The movie to watch after The Trilogy for Orlando Bloom fans has to be the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
If we're crying for the obviously not-dead death of Aragorn in this movie, then you better get some stacks of tissues ready for the next one 😅
Having read the book several times before the movies came out, it was fascinating to see the Theatrical Cut in theaters in real time unfold with the craftsmanship to get the world to feel like Middle-Earth, what was included, what was left out, what was so different that felt out of place, but overall a great solid experience in a theater.... but one year cliffhangers were tough to accept! (The Theatrical Cuts are perfectly fine for first time watchers, imho)
Imagine what it was like when the books first came out! The Two Towers film ends a little farther along the stories, and the cliffhanger in the Tower of Cirith Ungol (no spoilers) was awful.
Of all the Extended Edltions, The Two Towers is the best overall.
If nothing else, there's a brilliant and vitally important flashback scene that shows Boromir abd Faramir together, and how their father treats Faramir and orders Botomir to bring The One Ring to Gondor. Thst scene should have been in the theatrical version of the film.
Peter Jackson wanted people to see the extended (uncut) versions in the theatres, but Harvey Weinstein stopped him. In fact, Harvey wanted just ONE movie in the threatres, not a trilogy. 5 years of court proceedings - and the 'harvey weinstein orc" in return of the king (made at Jackson's specific direction) was the result.
Too many people don’t realize they are arguing in favour of a version of this movies that was only shown in theatres because of legal reasons - not for artistic reasons.

Peter Jackson’s passion project team was forced to not show their full content as it would cut into what the cinema CEOs literally called the theatrical edition to get more screen time in and more mulla for themselves. It’s a such a nasty business. 80 percent true that money be the root of all evil. It’s the reason the real pumped out the EE as fast as possible in DVD format before the second and third film hit theatres to get back at Harvey Weinstein, again, they wanted people to see the whole movie which invites feelings of completion in one’s heart.
But he just announced that’s he found 1300 hours worth of footage from a warehouse he finally got access to so we will see more specially made super extended edition cinema extravaganzas that no cinema would pass on the opportunity to ride on his coattails again.
The EE wasn’t just for fans. He literally was adapting the books to film as honestly as possible. the DVD documentaries showed that they didn’t want to cut anything. And weaselled around things to create the EE. (EE is extended edition by the way! ❤️).
Without the extended for the next two films I always say “Good luck missing the Boromir backstory. Good luck explaining why the cloak turns into a rock. Good luck explaining the elves that had explained their current situation since the first film.
It all ties together good luck skipping the gift scene with Galadriel and Celeborn and the extra scenes between Aragorn and Celeborn & Galadriel to Aragorn!”
It’s seriously needed for the film worldbuilding and heightening the stakes. Also, I’d rather have faith people have the emotional and intellectual IQ high enoug to understand it or shall we have changed the title to something else same as how JK was forced to change the title in America to sorcerers stone instead of PHILOSPHER as Americans don’t even know what a Philospher is anymore these days which is sad. Relating to that: Tolkien was very sad about people losing connection to their past and heritage etc!

Glorfindel was a lord of Gondolin, who after the city fell was helping civilians flee. A Balrog was set on a mountain pass to ambush & genocide the citizens in what was known as Battle Of Sudden Flame. Glorfindel battles the Balrog solo, which culminates in both falling off the mountain into a ravine to their mutual destruction.
Ecthelion was also a lord of Gondolin, and the warden of the city’s gate. He had been injured fighting through the city during its fall. The remaining forces were in the centre square, with the city’s Fountain (of which Ecthelion was lord of the people of the fountain). Gothmog, captain of the Balrogs, breaks through with the attack. He wounds Ecthelion, who - due to his injuries - cannot hold neither sword nor shield. So he leaps at Gothmog, rams his spiked(bladed helmet) helmet into the Balrog, and causes both of them to tumble into the Fountain. They are both too heavy to swim, and both injured, so they both drown (or have their inner fire extinguished). The steam from the fountain’s ruin adds to the chaos, assisting in some fleeing the city with Tuor, the princess Idril, and Glorfindel.
(Remember the prologue war in the fellowship of the ring? See those curved Blade-Esque things ontop of the elvish men’s helmets? That’s due to the ancient battle of Echthelion and the Balrog at Gondolin making its way into augmented design for their armour.)
So it’s also a theme that happens in the books where there usually is always something to do with falling into water. Except Fëanor who slayed several balrogs at once & Gothmog slayed him after one bound him suddenly when he was supposed to have a “one on one” duel with Gothmog but one wasn’t wanting to play fair. But he was fatally wounded and so his sons and host moved him away to a safe place where his body burned up from the fires of his own spirit. This was at The Battle Under Stars (Dagor Nuin Giliath).
Did you notice during Smeagol/Gollum debate, his pupils in his eyes change from large and friendly to small and evil?
Brilliant how they mixed both voices to create a sense of confusion when they met Gandalf in Fangorn forest.

The instrument you’re loving isn’t a violin! It’s a Nordic instrument called the Hardanger fiddle! (Norwegian: hardingfele) is a traditional stringed instrument considered to be the national instrument of Norway. In modern designs, this type of fiddle is very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and thinner wood.
The F-holes of the Hardanger fiddle are distinctive, oftentimes with a more “sunken” appearance, and generally straighter edges (unlike the frilly, swirly F-holes of a violin). Four of the strings are strung and played like a violin, while the rest, named understrings or sympathetic strings, resonate under the influence of the other four. The Galadhrim had a large store of lembas in Lothlórien. Galadriel gave some of it to the Fellowship of the Ring upon their departure. Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee subsisted on it through the majority of their journey from there into Mordor.
The tradition of farming the Western Corn and the making of waybread was lost for ever in Middle-earth after the departure of Galadriel and the death of Arwen.
One of the only places left where this untouched holy wheat can be grown is the groves within Lothlórien.
Aragorn spared Grima for pragmatic, political & moral reasons. Morally: Killing someone is bad. Even when perceived as justified Tolkien didn't feel that taking a life was ever the honourable thing to do.
Pragmatically: Grima might have knowledge about Saruman's plans.
Maybe even some of Sauron's plans.
Information that they could have extracted from him if he'd accepted the king's 'mercy'.
Politically: You've not seen your king in months. Rumour has it he's gone mad and that Grima is the one running the kingdom now. Next time you see your king he's flinging Grima down the stairs unarmed, about to swing a sword through his head.

Galadriel is the one who pleaded the WindLord Gwaihir, one of the eagle formed Maiar), to go to the top of Durin’s Tower at Zirakzigil. He was recuperated by her own hand and skills. Bringing back a god of sorts is quite a feat which fits her prowess in several fields as she was known to have learned from all of the Valar, all that there was left to teach by each of them.
The staff was given to him by Galadriel in Lothlórien and enhanced his powers upon his return.
His old brown staff was a gift from Radagast (another wizard of the Istari Order after he escaped from Saruman’s current abode in Orthanc, hand carved from an old branch.
The white staff was a gift from Galadriel, made by elven smiths from Mallorn wood. (Mallanornë by the elves. Interestingly looks similar to the elvish word for Friend, Mellon. But that’s just me being inquisitive.)
That new staff before he sacrificed it to do a spell of sorts against the Balrog in Khazad-Dûm. That one was called Opening Flower. (His portrayal in The Hobbit movies are a little bit funny but it slightly sort of suits the aspect of that book which was more whimsical so I guess they wanted to make him act much different.
Granted Radagast sort of strayed from the path but his main mission was to guard and protect nature itself on behalf of Yavannah. The Valar that chose him as her champion to head into middle earth with the other 4 istari.
The white staff was most likely named something along the lines of Marta Nieninquë (Fated WhiteTearSnowflower), or Ninquelotë which is “White/snow Flower”. Or Ninquë Merillë “White Rose”. (Derivatives of Merillë is also Feast and Festive, think of his fireworks for example. Single rose is Meril or like single flower is Elloth.
Another Elvish flower term is “ninglor” noun for golden water-flower, gladden.
But since Mithrandir is his name by the elves for grey wanderer I wanted to add Mithril to the name of his new staff as it contains similarity to his elvish name so “Mithrillottë” meaning “Flower Of TrueSilver”
Or maybe due to the snowy mountain he died upon, the new staff name could be “Olórin olea Ollosë” meaning “The Dream/Vision that bloomed and flourishes upon the Fallen Snow” by how it’s implied.
Olórin is Gandalf’s real angelic name so it is basically describing how the dream of hope that rekindled itself in the harshest of conditions. Like a resilient type of flower, Ollosë is the fallen snow. Olea is the action of plants specifically growing & living.
Another elvish flower name I love is for Daisy “Eirien”. Lothlórien itself means “DreamFlower”. Galadriel’s realm. ❤️

The horse that came to Aragorn isn't the horse that he was riding, it was Deodred's horse, a horse traumatized by war who was going mad that Aragorn showed kindness to and had them let it go free. They look similar so it's not easy to pick up on even after watching the extended over and over.
And the boy who Aragorn spoke to is the son of Hama, the Guardsman who had his head bitten off by the Warg Scout.

Gríma actually played a major role in the story of The Lord of the Rings prior to his first appearance in The Two Towers. In Unfinished Tales, Tolkien writes that on September 20 in 3018 Gríma was captured by the Nazgûl in the fields of Rohan, while on his way to Isengard to tell Saruman of Gandalf's arrival at Edoras. Neat right?

He was interrogated and divulged what he knew of Saruman's plans to the Nazgûl, specifically his interest in the Shire and its location, revealing the wizard's two-facedness towards the Dark Lord Sauron. Wormtongue was set free, for the Lord of the Nazgûl saw that he would not dare tell anyone of their meeting and he guessed that he would be of much use to the Dark Lord (being a capable opportunist), while doing harm to the turncoat White Wizard in the future.

The Nazgûl set out immediately for the Shire. Had the Ringwraiths not captured Gríma, they would instead have pursued Gandalf into Rohan, and possibly not have found the Shire until much later, giving the Hobbits and then the Fellowship of the Ring a considerable head start.

Yes, one of those things Jackson had to do (or felt he had to do) to make the rather more subtle plot beats in the book more Visually Obvious to the audiences. The casting out of Saruman from Théoden was cinematically a cool transition, but heavy handed compared to the book, which did not involve a physical transformation.

I was getting slightly peeved about their bashing of Elrond. Elrond is probably one of the 3 reasons the world survived as long as it did. His strength, leadership, wisdom, and levelheadedness has guided middle earth for centuries. He's not the strongest elf in terms of magical power, but in terms of diplomacy and influence. he's probably the most powerful elf in middle earth.

Let’s dive into Elrond & his daughter Arwen (& Aragorn by extension) therefore we must look at Elrond’s Twin Brother Elros, they both were half-elven brothers who can choose to be mortal or immortal because of their parents; (Eärendil & Elwing), both “half elven” made a great sacrifice and went to Valinor to ask for help against Morgoth(who was making everything worse than a living hellscape for 100s of generations) which lead to the greatest events in the early first and second age.
Instead of being punished, the valar listened to them, that led to a great hosts of Valar and Maiar And Vanyar Elves went to Middle Earth that laid waste to Beleriand.
After the War Of Wrath, the valar rewarded them for their sacrifices. They can choose to be elf or men, including their children. They chose immortally, but never return to Middle Earth because they thought that their twin sons had died. But they didnt die.
Elrond chose to be immortal while his twin brother Elros chose to be mortal. He founded the Kingdom of Numenor.

The average lifespan of a Numenorean at their height was 500 years maximum! Now remember too that half elves are a common thing and whenever they did come together it was always significant !❤❤❤

But if you want a more true age you must realize that he may be 8000 but in human years after the sun and moon were created from the flower from of the two trees of Valinor as well as one fruit from the other of the two trees; they experience the TIME and the way men experience it but their clock is different! Galadriel's Phial (gift to Frodo) is something really special. light & dark have a spiritual dimension in Tolkien. way back before the First Age Valinor was lit by two very special Trees that waxed & waned in opposition to each other. a master craftsman Elf named Fëanor fashioned three gems that captured their light, the Silmarils. (And it’s same power and light was drawn into it from the very firmament where it now stands amongst the stars as Eärendil himself (Elrond’s father stands watch over The Doors Of Night where Melkor still is held until fate holds him no longer.)
Everyone who saw them was captivated by them, even the Melkor(Morgoth); the first Dark Lord. Wars were fought over them called the Kinstrife after Morgoth had the Trees destroyed the Silmarils were the only light from them left and he stole them as you may remember,
they changed hands a few times & eventually one was left after one fell into the sea & another was lost in a pit of magma. a Half Elf named Eärendil (the first one! Who was Elrond’s father.) came into its possession & sailed it to Valinor as a gift to the Valar to ask for their help in defeating Morgoth, which they did. the Valar turned it into a star & hung it in the sky with Eärendil as its guardian.

Mirror is lit by light captured from the star Eärendil & her Phial has water from the fount. I've left out about 90% of the story but it's quite important & central to the story of Middle Earth. for her to give the Phial to Frodo is quite extraordinary. its light does burn & blind Shelob (that's the spider's name) but doesn't kill her outright. oh also, before he was put in the sky to guard the last Silmaril Earendil had two children, Elrond & his brother Elros the first King of Numenor. Tolkien's lore is deep & vast & the Silmarils are at the center of it.

The Star of Eärendil is the light that shines in the horizon both in the morning and the evening. It consists in a boat raised by the Valar and led by Eärendil, who carries a shining Silmaril while watching the Doors of Night. The Door of Night was a portal in the distant Uttermost West that leads to heaven, and/or the Void. Eärendil's ship Vingilot was taken by the Valar from the rim of the world, passed through the Door and was lifted into the "oceans of heaven". The title of half elven (Peredhel) was due to the combined history of Beren&Lúthien, his mother Elwing was the granddaughter of Lùthien! Eärendil was the husband of Elwing. The true half elf; son of the best elvish women ever who rescued hundreds from the highest of elvish kingdoms(Gondolin); her name is Idril & one of the best most powerful men around named Tuor. Who later on when they went to Valinor together through their own way lead to him choosing to be counted as One Of The Eldar for Idril. Eärendil did the same for Elwing. ❤
