I opened my hip, which I started to do after stretching for 4 exercises and a great result, I have not trained for 5 years, I have a brown belt and I could not kick my leg at all, now the hip is moving. Wonderful and powerful technique against civilians, but will be useless in full contact and MMA matches since the motion path is too wide making it very predictable for the opponent. In Kyokushin or Muaythai you should lift the knee in a straight line with opponent against it and twist it in the air to form the roundhouse shape. That way you don't leave space for the opponent to move forward and intercept.

Just discovered this. Agree with other comments. Really good tips by Yahara Sensei on how to improve one's roundhouse kick.
