Ok here is the deal. If that ship takes a fatal blow from a rogue wave and snaps in two there would be no survivors in these seas. If you are a thousand miles from land and your ship goes down, you will not survive. The Edmond Fitzgerald a loaded ore carrier caught in a September storm on Lake Superior a number of years back was on radar and one minute later it broke in two or three pieces and was at the bottom where it lies to this day. There were no survivors. Its deck hatches failed and the ship filled with water and instantly sank. There is not enough money to tempt me onto a ship knowingly heading into a massive storm. The bottom of the sea is covered with rusting hulks and unfortunately the bones of their brave but ill fated crews. Rest In Peace.

Yes, but sometimes the only option is to dart through the weakest part of it. Ie- sometimes fuel won't permit getting far enough out of the way, sometimes weather patterns won't permit getting out of the way, and sometimes the route is too dangerous (certain countries and areas of the seas you avoid at all costs due to pirates, rivaling governments, e.t.c) that limit options to get out of the way of the storm.
