    Some ppl are just OCD about their properties. They don't have much going on in their lives, so they just focus on what is in front of them. I have a neighbor I SWEAR has the grass blades numbered on her lawn, she is constantly hovering over that stinkin lawn. My friend, you really handled this customer extremely well. Kudos.

    I know this is late, but my Mom has a property that drops off into a gully with about 7 feet of grass before hand. I used the heavy duty tree stakes painted yellow and yellow/ red to denote when to lift plow and where edge is.
    The plow guy doesn’t carve up the lawn and can’t roll down the hill. Good work!

    Shawn,, I know its an easy thing to overlook when its working fine at your age , but save your back anyway you can as a young working man. always remember once its done your done. Try using a 3/16 x 3ft steel rod to make all those holes for the markers , It will also speed up your install time immensely . Take care and enjoy the journey.

    • @jamesstanley5503
      @jamesstanley5503 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgot to mention, grind a point on the end of the 3/16 rod. drives in much easier and straighter for good neat looking markers..

    $0.5 a piece is a great price. I get 100 5/16'' dia., 4' long orange snow stake with 9" reflective tape and cap for $0.95 a piece. The 1/4" snow stakes are cheaper, I like the larger ones though. Also, if you put them in before the ground freezes you won't need the screw driver.

  • @rotatingrecords

    Most of the companies around here use re-bar painted with hi-vis tractor paint. Probably end up being more than worth the money especially around non-curbs drives and parking lots when you start throwing heavy snow into them or bump them with the plow they don't break.

  • @blessingslawn
    @blessingslawn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    We use wood stakes and paint the top. We find the fiberglass ones start shedding, people grab them and get it in their hands. They snap off and fiberglass is everywhere. At least when the wood ones break and end up places it’s wood. Just our findings thru the years.

    Hey Shawn do you charge per plow or by the season one flat rate? I live in the Buffalo NY area and 90 % of the plowing here is seasonal. Reason I ask is about 12 years ago a bought a mower from a guy outside of Cleveland and he had 3 new western plows. He said that all his plowing was per time and they only had 3 snow events that year and had to start selling things to make payroll for his guys. Just curious because You have a lot invested in your plow equipment. Good video

    snow stakes rock, how can you keep track of every curb, flower garden and lawn edge? But then again, some ppl don't have more than 3 accounts : / So for them, it's probably ok to rock on without snow stakes LOL. What you need for snow stake install is a 2' section of 3/4" pipe with a cap on the end. Way better than putting in with a hammer, because now you have a self aligning slide hammer. If you secure the account after the frost is in the ground, use a 3/8 concrete bit, drill down 3-4 inches, and install the stake. Nice job marking your properties bro. One thing also is now if you have a huge storm, you can have a friend come and help you and the markers will tell him the story. FIBERGLASS splinters SUCK!!! No buenos!! Get that boy a belt, the plumbers union isn't what it's cracked up to be.... J/S

    You're putting your stakes in too late. Around here we do it around Thanksgiving and even a bit earlier. Also to keep from throwing your back out, buy the installation tool. Steel rod with a long skinny steel piece (looks like a nail) to make the hole, then put the stake in the hole and beat it down a bit, but don't use a hammer. Use a pipe nipple just a bit bigger than the stake (mines 18 inches long) put a pipe cap on the one end but have a buffer under the cap. With the 18 inches down the stake you don't have to worry about it breaking. Work smarter, not harder. Should have had TQ put in a few.

    Oh man! Watching you put in those markers was painful! Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get yourself a short piece of 1/2" black pipe and a threaded cap. Screw on the cap and then cut the pipe off to whatever length you want the markers to stick out of the ground. You slip the pipe over a marker and WACK WACK until the pipe touches the ground. This puts all the markers in at a uniform depth. Very fast! No broken markers, no bending over. Works in thawed or frozen soil. Total cost < $15. You can thank me later. :-)

      V Star 1300 Adventures says who ? There's little to no maintenance if tou take care of it properly. You don't scrape them bare in the winter and drag them as needed during the other 3 seasons. A simple 60" x 96" angle iron frame with expanded steel mesh dragged behind the utv with some stone on it for weight maintains the 345' gravel driveway up to our camp during the warmer months. A 72" 3pt blower covers it during the winter...simply set the skids on the blower so there's an inch or two of snow left after blowing.

It was done by wheelbarrow, shovel and my back to level them. Not an experience I ever want to repeat.
