Have no clue how I found you, but just went through a lot of your videos and had to log in just to suscribe! I’m from Tijuana and I loved my teenage scene days (I’m from 1992). I got to see Grace Gale, Blessthefall, DDG, Terror, and many more in Tijuana. When I was old enough to go to shows in SD I got to see Winds of Plague (Sidestage..early early days), The Acacia Strain and Stick To Your Guns. But I really enjoyed other “softer” stuff, I got to see Paramore like 4 times, Taking Back Sunday, Hit The Lights, and so much more. Why am I writing this? IDK, I guess I’m stoked and thankful for finding your channel! Keep doing your thing and I hope to see some videos on screamo!
hey man been binge watching through your videos and loving everything ive seen so far keep up the good work! Super excited for more videos in this series, i love learning about emo and punk history!
@EternallyUncoolTrevor By the way, I had a question for you, Trevor. I gave you many video suggestions over the past couple of days. Which suggestion do you think is the most likely one you would actually do? (No pressure by the way, its your channel, make which ever video of you feel like making)
@ honestly it all depends on how I feel. I’ve started scripts and then will abruptly delete them when I think of something else. I can’t definitively say what will and won’t be made because ADHD controls me 😅
yay a series!! i srsly love 90s post hardcore so hopefully youll dip into it some more in the next one. when i was 12 i thought avril lavigne was peak emo so im really not gonna judge what anyone says is emo lol
Thanks for this video! Not sure whether I would listen to any of those *mostly* obscure bands, but who knows, maybe one day... I'm not a musician or historian but I think a lot of genre names have a significance only in certain time afterwards they lose their meaning.
"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE. ..Sorry Its obligatory
@EternallyUncoolTrevor haha it's supposed to be expected, my only goal was to do it first. More seriously now having watched the video, wasn't any information I didn't know. Good overview talking about bands I love and care about. Ik in the next episode they'll be stuff talked about that idk about Midwest just isn't my favorite (unless we aren't there yet but we will see how you split it up). Hope sideshows mentioned ok they are often considered the first Midwest Emo band and they are really good in my opinion even if they don't have the same widespread recognition as before or after them. Also is it Mc-K-I, like kite, I thought his name was Mc-k-A, like Katy.
@@YongTre100 The next episode will for sure have much more info. This is just setting the groundwork. I'm sure there's viewers out there who aren't as well-versed in emo, so this might be a good video for them. As for the pronunciation of MacKaye's last name, I'm sure it's said "Mah-Kai". It might sound weird because I don't know how to talk lol

Its always exciting when a channel starts a new series. Can't wait for the next video of the series.
@@berkkarsi me either! I’m thinking I’ll do them once a month? Maybe once every other month? I don’t wanna put them out too close together

@@КарлШлегер glad you enjoyed it! Yeah genres kinda get twisted over time from what they were originally meant to be.
