  • Sometimes the very things we accumulate because we think they will help us save time, don’t. Even worse, they begin to steal more and more of our time.

I got rid of TV 10 years ago. The first thing that hit me was how long an evening is!

Great points. Sadly, I've seen people purchase a new home because they "need" bigger closets. Following your advice would have solved their "problem. "

A British broadcaster once said "television steals hours, radio doubles them". I've never forgotten.

Tv and social media browsing...steals hours without realising...

Love this…your tips have helped me a lot. I’m decluttering little by little. Did my clothes first. Found a great consignment shop and have made some money from that. Also donated some to stores that give to people in need. It has felt so good to do the clothes. Freeing in so many was 💕

My fave thing was own less Bcuz I wanted less “chores.” But also less to worry about or keep up with, less weight on my shoulders, less stress. Yes yes and yes. Lol. I can’t wait to take that to the next level with much less square footage. Like let’s just get straight to the point eh? Less house means less everything you can put in it across the board.
But in the meantime, I moved myself into a smaller room with a smaller closet and I had no idea just how much that would do for me. I love it. (My other room had a huge walk in closet lol). If I can’t get out of here sooner I might even shrink it more and switch rooms again (for a kind of converted “loft” space). 😬 I’m finding it to be very liberating indeed and also like a fun game or challenge. I often wonder why we have such large homes that are more like a Super Walmart or a football field. Makes more sense to me to have all I need around me with just a few steps in any direction…..Instead of walking half a mile to get to the kitchen for a glass of water or to answer the front door or whatever. Lol. Well you know tho. If you went to Walmart for milk batteries and shampoo, you’re gonna have to walk half a mile just to get those three things. And that’s a pain, so why would I want that also at my home? Crazy to me.

But the exercise is good for you ! 😂

@@dejaydavisson9938 Lol. True. 😅😅 Touché. But also if you think about how many thousands of times you have to do it over and over, (for every little thing day after day). It just feels to me like extra chores I don’t want (plus multiply time spent and bandwidth used by thousands also and you wonder what else you could be doing with all of that rather than walking from point A to point B in circles all the time). I’d rather hit exercise in a chunk separately I guess. Lol. (Like dance class or kickboxing or hiking out in nature, etc). Not feeling like I’m on some eternal hamster wheel at home or at Walmart. Lol. To me it all just feels like “time to make the donuts” and I’m just walking around in boring circles like some zombie. I also think I just love efficiency and to me it feels like lots of wasted time and energy on nothing worthwhile.

@@goodenoughgirl8102 I Agree ! Less is more, I hate clutter , and taking care of all that stuff becomes a huge burden. I think watching TV , is a huge waste of time , not to mention the garbage it puts into people's minds. A smaller , efficient living space requires so much less work , like giving you more hours in the day !

@@dejaydavisson9938 Lol. Same here. Although I think TV is harder for me. But for me it’s not really “TV” per se. I pretty much just go on YT and as with other “scheduled tasks,” I “check out” at the assigned time quite deliberately. 😅😅 But I think also like they say. Be intentional. No matter what it is. Don’t just let stuff and ad men and tv and other people etc etc etc lead you around by the nose. If you want to “check out” or be lazy for awhile or frivolous….then YOU set the terms. Idk if I’m right all the time but right now I’m following some Canadian procedural reruns called “Hudson and Rex.” Lol. But of course Rex is a K-9 cop I fell in love with and of course only at the designated time for what I call “personal entertainment” on purpose. And haha. It’s rated “PG” also). So we just have to control our intentional content and our own intentional time and space for any of it Imo ya know. Mostly tho I think maybe it’s not such a bad thing for people like me. Workaholic masochistic obsessive perfectionists. 😅😅 If I never sat down intentionally for a “break” I prob never would. Then I’d just be forever caught up in work til I drop dead or laid up in binge burnout land at some point. I def think the crux of the matter is for sure “an intentional life.” So I “intend” to chill sometimes. I “intend” to have fun. I “intend” to check out and go brain dead or run off to fantasy fun land for awhile. Then I get back on what has to be done.
Well that got long again. Lol. Maybe TV won’t be a “thing” for me one day but right now it’s kind of a helpful tool for me. (Although yes. What I call “TV” is really just whatever is free on YT that I find interesting for “down time” or learning. 😬

@@goodenoughgirl8102 I grew up without a TV , ( not much time for TV on a dairy farm ) and have not had a TV most of my adult life.
I just watch things on u-tube , where I can control what I watch.
Sounds like you have the wisdom and discipline to live an intentional life. Just don't forget to stop and smell the roses !

We haven't had TV for a couple of years. It was more or less an expensive background noise maker than actually being watched. As for the clothes and kitchen ware, Im.working on those.
