A: Yes, yesterday there was a fan-signing event and my parents came to visit. I got them to come up to the stage with me to say hi to the fans, and they were very happy
Female host: So which subject were you good at?
A: I was the best at math, math and science.
(joking about female host’s weakness at language...Show Luo ends up scolding her in Taiwanese dialect which is hilarious to Amber because the dialect is a very ‘rough’ way of addressing somebody)
27:36 (female host): So were you a popular figure in school when you were young?
[This part ends up getting lost in translation. They try to translate ‘popular person’, Show Luo says...it means you are the focus. Amber only heard the word ‘focus’ in English]
27:42 A: yes I was focused, I really liked learning new things and I was the best at math and science
Show: So you liked hip hop since young?
A: Yes at this stage I liked hip hop (pointing to photo…)
A: At this other point I liked rock…
Show: Have you ever rebelled before?
A: No. My sister was a rebel, so I was obedient and studied
(some funny discussion between the hosts about why they keep translating to English though they can all understand each other’s Mandarin. Show says : cuz we want to be ‘high class’)

Female host (blurts): SISTER! (everyone dies, cos it’s unnecessary translation, she is just proving that she knows English cos they were mocking her for not knowing English) 30:41-30:42
A: My sister’s not scared of my dad, but I am (the hosts chime in English 30:52 : Father!. Everyone dies laughing)
Show: You don’t need to translate everything!
Female host: And I only know the simplest words….lol
A: My sister’s not scared of my dad, so she’ll go surfing till really late at night, or you know, go play with her friends. But my dad and sister often quarrelled, so I’ll see that and then I decided to buckle down and study instead
Show: Did your parents hit you?
A: No, at most it was just a light slap on the hand (demonstrating)
Show: Wow, so good, good mother, good father. My mother, bad mother (broken English)
A: But we will be asked to stand in the corner / do a time-out as punishment. And it wasn’t just 10 minutes or half an hour, it was three whole hours
Female host: Wow three hours is really long for kids…
A: There was once when we quarrelled, it was really loud, my dad got mad. He got us to stand like this for three hours (demonstrating with the female host - two people hugging each other 31:47)
Show (joking): Wow, that’s really good, I can do the punishment with your sister….. (going back to earlier comment about how Jackie is pretty)

Female: But now the relationships are all very good in the family…
