    I’m perfectly fine I was just a bit sore for a week after. The crash happened at round 3 of the Florida winter tour on the Saturday morning practice. I finished the weekend but ended up having engine troubles in the finals.

      @@guilhermegamper9844 The reason non-caged go karts do not have a seat belt is because if it flips and god forbid a fire were to spark out, he would be trapped head in the ground on fire. It is rather safer to have no seat belt unless it has a cage. It is the same reason motorcycles have no belts, you wouldn't want to roll around with the bike, you rather slide on the floor until you stop. The track should not be like this, these barriers are extremely unsafe for karts.

      Theres no crumple zones in a kart, if you were strapped in the g forces would be many times higher stopping in 0.1s rather than 1 second.
      A 3m gravel trap would be much better, since youd have another factor reducing the g force.

    Orlando kart center is probably the most high risk kart place I've ever been to. The rental karts are fast, the workers are slow, and they let anyone wheel them without ensuring they're safe drivers. It's great fun, but I've had multiple events with crazy aggressive people on track who don't have any regard for the safety of others. Glad to see you're alright though!

    For people asking why there are no seatbelts.
    If karts had seatbelts I would be dead or seriously injured and that probably goes the same for many kart racers around the world. It’s like having seatbelts on a bike. You don’t really want to be attached to a flipping, out of control, potentially on fire machine where your head is literally the roof. You’re much better off being thrown from the machine. Thing’s like neck braces, rib protectors and good quality racewear and helmets will do a lot more good than a seatbelt would in karting.
    Also better run off, I don’t know the context or layout of the track but not having a sandpit/gravel and instead just a rigid barrier seems weird.

    • @turo3131
      @turo3131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +115

      Exactly, flipped my cart and it wasnt that serious but it would had taken ages to climb out with a seatbelt, if it then would had been on fire id be fucking dead or hospitalized

    • @TheMaxxMiller
      @TheMaxxMiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +121

      This is the same reason why kart racing suits and auto racing suits (or firesuits) are different and should be used accordingly. The primary dangers when involved in a crash are very different between the two racing disciplines. In karting, the suit is abrasion resist to protect the driver if thrown from the kart. In Auto racing ( where harnesses are used), the suit is not designed to protect against abrasion since the risk of being ejected from the race vehicle is much lower. They are primarily designed to protect against fire risks and buy time for the racer to get themselves out or be extracted from a burning car.

Instructor was saying to brake just after the hanging lights, which really didn't work. Bent a tierod, went back to braking a hair more conservatively. Definitely the most dangerous corner there, waaaaay worse in the rain, especially on slicks. Glad you made it out alright.

      I had a break failure at our local indoor carting when I was 10, luckily I was only doing like 30mph. The little beton barrier I crashed into flew a good 5m away and I hit my knee on the steering wheel. I got out and wanted to put the barrier back in place. Then realized I couldn't even move it 😂 that's where I learned that also low speeds can generate quite some forces. Don't want to imagine having a break failure at double the speed! Luckily he didn't smashed into this wall frontally.

    not that it helps you now but if you ever get brake failure again pump the pedal, it's usually master cylinder that goes and pumping the pedal will build pressure, once finished an entire race pumping the brake down the straights so I could brake for corners 😂

    Eric, I'm glad you're ok. I've watched this video many times since it came out and it still amazes me. It's frustrating and almost funny how many people think you are at fault. They should do 3 laps in a real Kart and then re-comment. Anyway, I've got a race in X30 this weekend at OKC, I think everyone is now more cognizant of the barrier. Frustrating Andre didn't put tires or tecpro in.

He's racing hard as he can and this other dad is doing the same well my dad tried to overtake this guy coming up on a turn and we took a hard right and this guy just smashed right into us.
