Ironically, the loyal three still works perfectly as a trio name when we consider the stuff going on behind the scenes. Who ever said you had to be good to be loyal? The loyal three are loyal.. to their boss and that's about it
I also love how in a twist, thier types have nothing to do with thier appearane. Monkey boy dares you to bring a grass type to him as he destorys you with poison. Doggo will crush you wtih rocks if you think he's grass and bring a fire type, and while the birdie looks like a Psychic type, her fairy moves will make you predict better next time.
I love how the first battle against them is just Munkidori going "You guys sit back, I'll deal with these bozos" while Okidogi and Fezandipiti just stand there and egg him on.

After taking a look at them, the Loyal Three aren't just meant to pull from Momotaro. They're also supposed to be three types of bullies. -Okidogi is the big and mean brute who uses his strength and size to beat up the little guy. -Munkidori is the sly trickster that plays headgames that ultimately make you feel like you've been played (because you were). -Fezandipiti is the vain diva that's always looking out for their own interest, even at the expense of others, and especially if they feel one particular being threatens them.
I know people saw the twist coming from their designs, but it actually hit me. Three bullies that went down in history as selfless while the victim was only defending herself.
It does somehow bear resemblance to the number of historical figures who were venerated for all the wrong reasons before their holy image was debunked and crushed down to the ground.
@@julien827 Peach Pokémon? That isn’t Orgerpon (it kinda looks like a peach) but if there is a peach Pokémon than that means it could be the Trio Master to the Loyal Three.
Maybe wait until we see said Pokémon in DLC2 before jumping to conclusions? We don't know if it gave them the chains, we don't know if it's manipulating them, and we're not even supposed to know it exists.
My favorite part is that it transitions from a happy song into a more treacherous theme, like how these legendary Pokémon seem heroic and noble on the outside but inwardly are scoundrels and deceitful.
I like the new direction this generation has towards legendary Pokémon. So many are usually forces of nature or selfless guardians. But now. The box legends are probably not even logically real. The quartet cause a civilization to collapse, and these three are just straight up thugs. I like the new direction of storytelling Gamefreak is going for. How these Pokémon are legendary not because of their status, but by their legacy.
Koraidon/Miraidon : a regular paradox cyclizar, made a legendary by our journey together. The ruin quartet : powerful cursed relics from anciens times, powerful enough to create bodies and to bring the end of a nation. The Loyal Three and Ogerpon : have already been legendaries for generations, even if on the wrong side

I'm really glad they finally gave us Pokemon that are objectively the villains of the story. Usually it's an evil team taking control of some deity or some misunderstanding with a force of nature, but here it's just three little guys who are up to no good and damn well know it.

@@elijahbruno2814 it did that because of chairman rose awakening it and trying to capture it (also eternatus' presence is what causes the darkest day technically, because its body gives off dynamax particles, but it was awakened by rose). It's another 'force of nature' that got pissed off by humans doing stupid shit.

Not exactly… While the Three DID get their asses kicked by Ogrepon, they were still able to paint Ogrepon as the bad guy of the story for a bit (intentionally or not), so they won the battle of optics

Yeah, I guess "History is written by survivors" is probably a better proverb, it's just that in a lot of cases winners and survivors are one and the same entity, hence this unusual situation with Ogerpon and the Lousy Three.
Gotta love how their folklore makes them out to be complete heroes to the village when they just completely murdered an ogres best friend and bullied said ogre
I honestly love this as it's not too far from our real life histories and how easy it is to rule yourself as a good/bad guy despite being the complete opposite
My favourite part is that there's a trainer depicted in the 'legend' of the Loyal Trio despite that no trainer instructed the Loyal Trio to do anything, so the people of the past probably just shoehorned the dead guy into the story assuming he was some trainer fighting alongside the Loyal Trio because they could never imagine the Loyal Trio killing a human, who was Ogerpon's original trainer that they killed to take the masks from him. One of the NPC's at the festival even wonders why there's a trainer depicted on the signboards in the first place considering he's not mentioned in any of the writings.

I find it kinda funny how it's implied these three killed Ogerpon's friend, and were killed in retaliation, yet after the story ends we can catch them, chill, and eat sandwiches together without explanation. That said, I dig just how much personality these three have and am thankful we can capture them. SV has really knocked it out of the park when it comes to the lore of the legendaries. Also Okidogi is an absolute goon.
Makes me think of a lot of battle manga/anime. You can take the worst villains, have the protag beat the living shit out of them, and eventually they just become friends like nothing prior ever happened.
That's just game mechanics and how Pokémon works, Eternatus haves destroyed planets and murdered billions, and yet we can play with it and eat curry together
I like to think that, considering that the protagonist managed to beat the absolute snot out of all three of them, they just know better than to tick you off (at least at first anyway).
I think Okidogi is pretty much the only pokemon where it's in game portrayal actually did it more justice than it's artwork. I love its goofy yet menacing personality, looking like something outta One Piece, lol.
I hope we get more evil legends in the future. Gen 9 has done quite a few (These guys, the other [Korai/Mirai]don and the ruinous ones) and I just like seeing instances of Pokemon as bad guys in a sense.
@@emilywenig4390 Yveltal and Mewtwo aren't really treated as villains in the main series games at all, and Darkrai is more commonly depicted as misunderstood. With these guys it's just outright "They're assholes."
This theme is so SO fitting for the Loyal-er… I mean… Looney Three. 0:38 This part of their theme embodies their true, greedy natures as toxic hooligans, but the rest of the theme shows that they are not to be taken lightly. They may be looney thieves, but they are Legendary nonetheless.
The best part is that his dex entry specifically says the muscles came from the Toxic Chain, so he used to be the other half of the meme format too 😂😂😂
when i catch them in the dlc, im going to name them after the wings of fire characters Blaze (Fezandipiti ) Burn (okidogi) and Blister (munkidori) despite the princesses being female. igt fits because they are similar to the three B's, similar to the "loyal" three Edit: I may also name Ogerpon "Thorn" after a wings of fire character with the same name.
I think this is my favorite theme in SV, the overall hype beat, the rave vibe, and 0:37 sounding tragic and emotional like the tale before going back to being somewhat intimidating like the true story is all so good
The Legendary Quartet is also a similar bop! But with a Sinister taste to it ofcourse, which matches their atmosphere. That's why I love this one as much as Quartet theme!
This is the first piece of media I went into completely blind. Seeing okidogi glitching on the ground was the most enchanting experience I've ever had in a video game
Especially with Fezendipiti. Multi Attack moves each have a chance to badly poison. Plus, it learns dual wingbeat and (I don't know if every hit counts) Beat Up.

I love these 3 brutes, even though they’re the worst 😂 I like that their chain designs are all different to reflect their personalities. Okidogi twirls his around like a big whipping chain, showing his strength. Munkidori uses his headband like a scorpion stinger, so it feels like a sneaky pre-meditated attack. And then there’s fezandipiti who wears theirs like a beautiful belt, almost like a literal toxic beauty standard.
I thought the idea of a poison type trio was more than enough to convince that I am going to love these guys. And now, after hearing their theme, I think I like these guys even more than before, despite them being bad or not.
Honestly, I'm disappointed that they turned out as evil as they are. It feels like Poison is always the designated "evil" type, even more so than Dark (especially recently). Eternatus was an eldritch kaiju of death and destruction, Klara was a toxic b*tch for most of the IoA story, and these three are just straight-up murderous thieving scum. I realized they'd probably be the antagonists, but they're so vile, I kinda don't even wanna train them. Can't we have an unequivocally good Poison-type representative? Maybe a science-themed Poison-type Gym Leader who studies them for their medicinal properties, or a Poison-type Legendary which is actually super-friendly or heroic? This is my favorite type here!

Ok, I have a theory: Since the game takes place in a school enviroment, the story that the bullies were saw as heroes and the victim as the bad girl could be a nod that in schools, the bullies attack and attack. But when the bully decides to defend itself, he/she's seen as the bad guy, and is punished.
IIRC these three are based off of the japanese folktale of Momotarō, which follows the titular Momotarō on a journey to defeat a band of oni, he is accompanied by three talking animals, a dog, monkey, and pheasant whom he befriends by sharing his food
This and Ogerpon’s battle themes scream Yokai Watch, especially with the “weewow” sounds, and particularly Yokai Watch 2. That’s a very high compliment because that game’s soundtrack cranked it up to 11 when it went traditional Japanese.
I just imagine them fainting after being defeated like any pokemon battle but Ogerpon just keeps Ivy Cudgeling them even when they're down, just to make sure
Something I’ve noticed is that their chains are placed in a way that reflects what they wanted to become. Okidogi wanted to be stronger, and its chain is wrapped around its neck like a dog’s leash. As many dog owners will tell you, walking your dog on a leash is the easiest way for it to get exercise, especially if your home doesn’t have a backyard. And exercise makes you physically stronger. Munkidori wanted to be smarter, and its chain is wrapped around its head like a headband. Of course, the head is where all the thinking goes on, and in a lot of cultures, wearing certain headgear conveyed wisdom or intellect (hence why they give you a hat when you graduate from college, why many religions have their high priests wear some sort of headwear, and why we have the phrase “put on your thinking cap”). And a lot of people in Japan will wear headbands during moments of high stress (like a test at school or a large workload at their job) in order to keep their mind calm. Fezandipiti wanted to be more beautiful, and its chain is wrapped around its waist like a sash. Clothing items that cinch the waist (corsets, girdles, waist-trainers, tightly tied sashes, etc.) are commonly used by both women and men to make them appear more slender, and have been used that way for years. In most of modern society, it’s considered attractive to have a slim waist and a flat stomach. And to top it off, they all resemble accessories associated with “tough guys” in Japan: Okidogi’s wearing a scarf (like the ones ninjas stereotypically wear), Munkidori’s wearing a hachimaki (commonly worn by soldiers, sumo wrestlers, and anyone who’s exerting great force), and Fezandipiti’s wearing a tied belt (like the ones you get for moving up the ranks in karate and judo).
These are really cool details that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s pretty incredible how they managed to very easily convey all this with one design element (along with its placement) which not only gives them so much personality and context, but also ties the three of them together.

This also plays into the generation theme of becoming what you desire (see Penny’s words when Sylveon teras). Pokémon seem to crave the Area Zero things because they give them power to live their dreams, or so it would seem.
Something to be said for Team Star's story being about the effects of bullying, and how retailiating against your bullies gets you labelled as one, and ultimately made into a villain, and then the "Loyal" Three and Ogerpon is a similar tale of three bullies who stole Ogerpon's masks, killed her only friend, and yet when they were killed in retaliation, they were the ones diefied as heroes, while poor Ogerpon was labelled as a violent monster for fighting back. And now, through little fault of their own, the player has accidentally bullied Kieran, in a sense, and it looks like it'll be his turn to become the bad guy because of it....
I mean, bro was the one who wanted to throw hands so frequently. His mistake was fighting someone who also hates losing lmao. Although, it'd be interesting Kieran had a villain role in Indigo Disc and embraced it.
@@excalibur493 wasn't much of a villain arc. but he did seem obssessive. from point: he thought he had nothing, that the PC was getting everything they ever wanted. even when he loved the ogre for as long as he knew of the tales; even when his sister was originally NASTY towards us, things eventually turned friendly and left his side. Only when his pursuit of Power and Victory (egged on By Ms. Briar) almost threatened to kill them all as Terapagos was out of control and even EXPLODED the Master ball when he attempted to return Terapagos... A bad case of Low self-esteem and Unhealthy coping on BOTH EXTREMES. and I can say the Spiral started when Carmine told us to LIE to her own brother, cause she didn't want him to know at the time that they met the Ogre. Poor actions lead to Poor consequences.
yeah, when i first fought them i guessed okidogi was fighting but had no clue otherwise i also knew that fezandipidi was weak to ground however i struggled with it, especially because when i sent out my iron valliant against okidogi it got destroyed with a poison move or whatever, fezandipidi also game me some trouble because i had no poison or steel pokemon/moves (afterwards i used home to move a libero scorbunny from shield to violet and taught it iron head to solve that issue but thats beside the point) i had no idea what munkidori would be because that was the first one i went to so when i figured out it was phychic type i felt very accomplished even though i only hit it with a ghost move from my annihilape
It feels weird hearing this after Pecharunt’s theme. But it’s still great. I prefer Pecharunt’s theme but they do sound different enough to be more obviously distinct from each other

The Disloyal Three may be evil asshats, but their theme is worth headbanging for edit: this is a very weird thing to say, but to me these three are kind of like the opposite of the lake trio. the lake trio are more or less like aliens, whereas the loyal trio are based on actual animals the lake trio have a bright color scheme whereas the loyal trio have darker colors the lake trio have similar designs with few differences whereas the loyal three are more varied (order vs chaos?) the lake trio are pretty much on the good guys’ side, whereas the loyal three are shady and villainous the lake trio have no gender, but the loyal trio do have genders (and by genders they are all male) the lake trio are monotypes, whereas the loyal trio have two types (although the lake trio themselves have a good type advantage, further helped by the fact that the lake trio can very well learn tm moves that vary further from their original movepool) they also have a connection with chains (red chain for the lake trio, toxic chain for the loyal three)
The Lake Trio aren't just "aliens that are connected through a chain", they're literal gods and the manifestation of the mind and spirit in the Multiverse
Thank you for uploading this. It mixes so many different styles and musical instrumentation. I picture the flute as Fezandipity, the drums as Okidogi, and the cymbals/clashes as Munkidori for some reason.
I really love the fact that these guys are just purely evil simply for the sake of it: In Pokemon's 9 gens of existence, the Loyal Three are the first legendary pokemon created and designed to be evil for absolutely no reason. Deoxys is only seen as evil because the meteorite it inhabits threatens to destroy Hoenn. He's not malicious, moreso you can perceive his arrival kinda like a natural disaster Darkrai isn't really evil, hes kinda like a force of nature. it's natural to have nightmares and he's just the embodiment of it. Giratina was violent, but it still took it's role as maintaner of the universe's balance seriously, especially in PLA Kyurem was USED for evil but it itself isn't. It's the equalizer to Reshiram and Zekrom who kinda keeps the balance between the two and the main part of the Original Dragon Necrozma is a rampaging force but he also provides light to his own world, he only attacks out of panic that he's going to run out of energy and is seen as evil because of it's destructive power, while the Ultra Recon Squad loves him because they share the same dimension Eternatus nearly caused an apocalypse, but it's implied to not have the best control over it's cataclysmic power. Meanwhile you just have these three jackasses who kinda just bully Ogerpon and manipulate a village to give them what they want before they die and are reveared as heroes i honestly kinda respect that, they are just cartoonishly evil and i kinda love that Edit: Yeah the Treasures of Ruin are evil too but i don't feel like it hits the same, i put in specifically that the loyal three are evil for NO REASON. the Ruinous Quartet is evil because they were possessed by evil spirits Edit 2: While in some ways you can argue the introduction of Pecharunt kinda makes this comment outdated, i don't necessarily think so. None of the Loyal Three know Pecharunt's intentions with the masks, and the chains are mainly amplifying their attributes. The loyal Three would still definitely be evil if Pecharunt didnt introduce the chains imo, they're just now in his control lol. That does mean they're not evil for "no reason" but compared to the other examples of "evil" legendaries, they're without a doubt the most mean spirited of them lol
theyre not evil for no reason, something worse chained them up and sent them to another region to steal the masks. just visually for example if you grab the toxic chain by the big rings then youd painfully strangle or crush them, so clearly the creator uses that threat of pain to drive the loyal three. the loyal three may have even told to return the masks to the more evil creature in town but found he wasnt there so this deception made them easier to kill and the more evil creature ends up not even being in the story despite being the one who was totally at fault in every way.

It’s was even cooler to discover that some versions of the Momotaro story where actually a mistold one too, with the nice guys being the villains. It’s criminal that the most important part of they’re story is left on the Info bill boards of the map and it goes a away when you defeat they’re giant form, and said story kinda explain why they are called the Retainer’s Pokémon’s and also, like, the whole theory of gen 9 story about the desires? Also, it surprised me how nobody speculated that they where Poison type’s, when the chains were literally the classic Poison icon

I love it that my two favorite themes in scarlet and violet are for the legendarys that aren't the main legendarys in the main game and teal mask, the treasure of ruin and the loyal three

Coming back to this after the Pecharunt video sheds such a new light on them. They're still not redeemable for what they did but at least we now know that they weren't completely acting out of malice at least. Find them incredibly cute too honestly.
When I learned of the twist that the Loyal Three were actually villains who became heroes thanks to people not understanding the situation, it shocked me. These three are based off of characters from a Japanese folktale called “Momotaro”, where a boy born from the Peach (Momotaro) goes out in a journey and befriends three animals, a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant. Together with his friends, Momotaro journeys to defeat the Oni (Japanese demons) in the island of Onigashima (Oni-Ga-Shi-Ma). But in this DLC, the Oni are the heroes and Momotaro’s friends are the villains. And the Poison type was one-hint, besides their designs. But these Pokemon were once nice, innocent ones until something changed them. Probably a Poison-type Momotaro peach that granted them such powers.
I don’t think they were nice at all. They were probably monstrous to the core. It’s more like they were ambitious, and via the peach, they gained the power needed to fulfill their ambitions of power
According to their Pokédex entries, the poisonous chains they wear is what gave them their powers, in addition to an explanation as to why they're all Poison type.
Anyone else find these guy's cry text hilarious? Like, they're supposed to be these super-strong ancient bullies that allegedly killed a man and rose from the dead just to steal from poor Ogerpon, but when you meet them for the first time, you just hear: "Mmmkay!" "Grrrriffic!" "Yip-yip-yippy!" They sound so dorky, like Looney Tunes parodies of themselves, and I just can't take them seriously because of it, no matter how much their theme slaps
Fezandipidi’s entry says it used to be dull looking and considering male birds are known for having extravagant feathers to attract mates almost makes you feel sorry for it.
Nah, I don't feel sorry for that birdbrain for being a part of the Loathed Three who killed Ogerpon's best friend. *Sorry* That bird and his buddies along with his master Pecharunt needs to be driven to extinction so they will not bully anyone or any mon!
I fucking adore these 3, Evil pokemon seen as heroes? Its so refreshing. Ruinous Quartet were TOLD to be evil, Most "evil" legendaries are just, haha die. These 3 not only used their fame to overpower themselves but to steal the masks, AND beat the shit out of Ogerpon. Truly Evil and I love them for that.
I like how these legendary pokemon and Ogerpon are local legendaries since only the town saw them as beings of legend. the legend itself doesnt seem to be nearly as old as the legends of whole regions.
1:42 Reminder that Fezandipiti is a dude, cuz with peacocks and other birds, the colorful ones are male to attract females. Fezandipiti with his kimono gives me some pretty heavy Orochimaru vibes.
I feel like the best part is that with these villians they didn't lie or do anything to decieve the townsfolk to make them think they were heroes; they just came into the village to steal the masks from Ogerpon and her friend, dying in the end along with Ogerpon. Everyone assumed that they died in a battle to protect them and during the duration that they were dead they ended up being depicted as legends! Still, could you imagine what was going through their minds? They just came back to life and were likely planning to rob the temple by force; just imagine their surprise when the humans not only willingly give the three of them what they wanted, but they got food as well!
I’m glad that Pokémon isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to making the Pokémon themselves evil this time around. First the vicious Version Mascot who killed Turo/Sada, then the Ruinious Quartet who nearly brought Paldea to an end, and now these three thieves, who are heavily implied to have murdered Ogrepon’s first trainer. Them being evil is even reflected in their friendship value, which is 0. These guys HATE you. I wonder how they’ll show how evil Terapagos is.
@@mesa8680 it brainwashed Heath into drafting the schematics for the Time Machine Sada/Turo would create and made Sada/Turo go batshit insane over their desire to let paradox Pokémon come into the present, so much so it led to their demise. I highly doubt it’s a good guy.

@@mesa8680 in the Scarlet/Violet book, Heath makes record of how he blacked out at one point, had a dream like experience, only to wake up with a piece of paper in his hands. The paper had schematics and was in his handwriting, but Heath himself states he never remembered writing it. The only thing we can take from this is that Terapagos made Heath draft the schematics, which Turo/Sada used after studying Heath’s book. And that’s not even to mention Sada/Turo saw Terapagos, just like Heath did. After they discovered Terapagos, Turo/Sada’s journals in the research stations get more and more concerning, each one descending further into madness as you go futher into Area Zero. The AI version of the professor saw that their original was acting bizarre. A machine couldn’t be influenced like a regular human can, and the AI stated it was an exact replica, down to the very memories of the professor. The only way for the AI to not share the same vision as their originals did could only be due to the fact they weren’t able to be brainwashed by Terapagos. If Terapagos isn’t evil, then what sort of end game does it get from having Heath draft up the plans for a Time Machine that wouldn’t be created until some 100 years later? Terapagos can somehow see into the past an future, and pushed the professors to build the machine in order to let the paradox pokemon run wild in the present, which as the AI states, would eventually break out of Area 0 and destroy Paldea. What would Terapagos achieve from doing this if it was good?

I am actually surprised that I haven't seen it, but Ogerpon and Lousy Three are actually a reference to the fairytale of Momotaro. Just in reverse. Because Momotara had a monkey, a pheasant and a dog with him to fight an oni. I really liked seeing this parallel.

After taking a look at them, the Loyal Three aren't just meant to pull from Momotaro. They're also supposed to be three types of bullies.
-Okidogi is the big and mean brute who uses his strength and size to beat up the little guy.
-Munkidori is the sly trickster that plays headgames that ultimately make you feel like you've been played (because you were).
-Fezandipiti is the vain diva that's always looking out for their own interest, even at the expense of others, and especially if they feel one particular being threatens them.
They also could pull from The Wizard of Oz. It's hinted that they looked different before but made a wish that made them what they are now

Maybe wait until we see said Pokémon in DLC2 before jumping to conclusions? We don't know if it gave them the chains, we don't know if it's manipulating them, and we're not even supposed to know it exists.
My favorite part is that it transitions from a happy song into a more treacherous theme, like how these legendary Pokémon seem heroic and noble on the outside but inwardly are scoundrels and deceitful.

I like the new direction this generation has towards legendary Pokémon.
So many are usually forces of nature or selfless guardians.
But now. The box legends are probably not even logically real. The quartet cause a civilization to collapse, and these three are just straight up thugs.

My favourite part is that there's a trainer depicted in the 'legend' of the Loyal Trio despite that no trainer instructed the Loyal Trio to do anything, so the people of the past probably just shoehorned the dead guy into the story assuming he was some trainer fighting alongside the Loyal Trio because they could never imagine the Loyal Trio killing a human, who was Ogerpon's original trainer that they killed to take the masks from him. One of the NPC's at the festival even wonders why there's a trainer depicted on the signboards in the first place considering he's not mentioned in any of the writings.

I find it kinda funny how it's implied these three killed Ogerpon's friend, and were killed in retaliation, yet after the story ends we can catch them, chill, and eat sandwiches together without explanation.
That said, I dig just how much personality these three have and am thankful we can capture them. SV has really knocked it out of the park when it comes to the lore of the legendaries.
Also Okidogi is an absolute goon.
Makes me think of a lot of battle manga/anime. You can take the worst villains, have the protag beat the living shit out of them, and eventually they just become friends like nothing prior ever happened.

This is the first piece of media I went into completely blind. Seeing okidogi glitching on the ground was the most enchanting experience I've ever had in a video game
Their special abilities is good since non-poison attack can have a chance to badly poison their foes.
Especially with Fezendipiti. Multi Attack moves each have a chance to badly poison. Plus, it learns dual wingbeat and (I don't know if every hit counts) Beat Up.

I love these 3 brutes, even though they’re the worst 😂 I like that their chain designs are all different to reflect their personalities. Okidogi twirls his around like a big whipping chain, showing his strength. Munkidori uses his headband like a scorpion stinger, so it feels like a sneaky pre-meditated attack. And then there’s fezandipiti who wears theirs like a beautiful belt, almost like a literal toxic beauty standard.
Funny thing is I personally like two of them WAY more than Ogerpon and only one less than Ogrepon (Fezandipiti and Munkidori are the two I like more)

I thought the idea of a poison type trio was more than enough to convince that I am going to love these guys.
And now, after hearing their theme, I think I like these guys even more than before, despite them being bad or not.
Honestly, I'm disappointed that they turned out as evil as they are. It feels like Poison is always the designated "evil" type, even more so than Dark (especially recently). Eternatus was an eldritch kaiju of death and destruction, Klara was a toxic b*tch for most of the IoA story, and these three are just straight-up murderous thieving scum. I realized they'd probably be the antagonists, but they're so vile, I kinda don't even wanna train them. Can't we have an unequivocally good Poison-type representative? Maybe a science-themed Poison-type Gym Leader who studies them for their medicinal properties, or a Poison-type Legendary which is actually super-friendly or heroic? This is my favorite type here!

Since the game takes place in a school enviroment, the story that the bullies were saw as heroes and the victim as the bad girl could be a nod that in schools, the bullies attack and attack. But when the bully decides to defend itself, he/she's seen as the bad guy, and is punished.

This and Ogerpon’s battle themes scream Yokai Watch, especially with the “weewow” sounds, and particularly Yokai Watch 2. That’s a very high compliment because that game’s soundtrack cranked it up to 11 when it went traditional Japanese.

Something I’ve noticed is that their chains are placed in a way that reflects what they wanted to become.
Okidogi wanted to be stronger, and its chain is wrapped around its neck like a dog’s leash. As many dog owners will tell you, walking your dog on a leash is the easiest way for it to get exercise, especially if your home doesn’t have a backyard. And exercise makes you physically stronger.
Munkidori wanted to be smarter, and its chain is wrapped around its head like a headband. Of course, the head is where all the thinking goes on, and in a lot of cultures, wearing certain headgear conveyed wisdom or intellect (hence why they give you a hat when you graduate from college, why many religions have their high priests wear some sort of headwear, and why we have the phrase “put on your thinking cap”). And a lot of people in Japan will wear headbands during moments of high stress (like a test at school or a large workload at their job) in order to keep their mind calm.
Fezandipiti wanted to be more beautiful, and its chain is wrapped around its waist like a sash. Clothing items that cinch the waist (corsets, girdles, waist-trainers, tightly tied sashes, etc.) are commonly used by both women and men to make them appear more slender, and have been used that way for years. In most of modern society, it’s considered attractive to have a slim waist and a flat stomach.
And to top it off, they all resemble accessories associated with “tough guys” in Japan: Okidogi’s wearing a scarf (like the ones ninjas stereotypically wear), Munkidori’s wearing a hachimaki (commonly worn by soldiers, sumo wrestlers, and anyone who’s exerting great force), and Fezandipiti’s wearing a tied belt (like the ones you get for moving up the ranks in karate and judo).

These are really cool details that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s pretty incredible how they managed to very easily convey all this with one design element (along with its placement) which not only gives them so much personality and context, but also ties the three of them together.

Something to be said for Team Star's story being about the effects of bullying, and how retailiating against your bullies gets you labelled as one, and ultimately made into a villain, and then the "Loyal" Three and Ogerpon is a similar tale of three bullies who stole Ogerpon's masks, killed her only friend, and yet when they were killed in retaliation, they were the ones diefied as heroes, while poor Ogerpon was labelled as a violent monster for fighting back.
And now, through little fault of their own, the player has accidentally bullied Kieran, in a sense, and it looks like it'll be his turn to become the bad guy because of it....
I mean, bro was the one who wanted to throw hands so frequently. His mistake was fighting someone who also hates losing lmao. Although, it'd be interesting Kieran had a villain role in Indigo Disc and embraced it.
@@excalibur493 wasn't much of a villain arc. but he did seem obssessive. from point: he thought he had nothing, that the PC was getting everything they ever wanted. even when he loved the ogre for as long as he knew of the tales; even when his sister was originally NASTY towards us, things eventually turned friendly and left his side. Only when his pursuit of Power and Victory (egged on By Ms. Briar) almost threatened to kill them all as Terapagos was out of control and even EXPLODED the Master ball when he attempted to return Terapagos... A bad case of Low self-esteem and Unhealthy coping on BOTH EXTREMES. and I can say the Spiral started when Carmine told us to LIE to her own brother, cause she didn't want him to know at the time that they met the Ogre. Poor actions lead to Poor consequences.

The typings for these 3 really surprised me, thought they were gonna be the starter trio with poison
Fighting, psychic, and fairy go crazy with poison
Figuring out their types was really rewarding especially with Carmine complementing you on it
yeah, when i first fought them i guessed okidogi was fighting but had no clue otherwise
i also knew that fezandipidi was weak to ground
however i struggled with it, especially because when i sent out my iron valliant against okidogi it got destroyed with a poison move or whatever, fezandipidi also game me some trouble because i had no poison or steel pokemon/moves (afterwards i used home to move a libero scorbunny from shield to violet and taught it iron head to solve that issue but thats beside the point)
i had no idea what munkidori would be because that was the first one i went to so when i figured out it was phychic type i felt very accomplished even though i only hit it with a ghost move from my annihilape

The Disloyal Three may be evil asshats, but their theme is worth headbanging for
edit: this is a very weird thing to say, but to me these three are kind of like the opposite of the lake trio.
the lake trio are more or less like aliens, whereas the loyal trio are based on actual animals
the lake trio have a bright color scheme whereas the loyal trio have darker colors
the lake trio have similar designs with few differences whereas the loyal three are more varied (order vs chaos?)
the lake trio are pretty much on the good guys’ side, whereas the loyal three are shady and villainous
the lake trio have no gender, but the loyal trio do have genders (and by genders they are all male)
the lake trio are monotypes, whereas the loyal trio have two types (although the lake trio themselves have a good type advantage, further helped by the fact that the lake trio can very well learn tm moves that vary further from their original movepool)
they also have a connection with chains (red chain for the lake trio, toxic chain for the loyal three)
The Lake Trio aren't just "aliens that are connected through a chain", they're literal gods and the manifestation of the mind and spirit in the Multiverse
But they "are" Loyal. They're loyal to each other and their master.

I really love the fact that these guys are just purely evil simply for the sake of it: In Pokemon's 9 gens of existence, the Loyal Three are the first legendary pokemon created and designed to be evil for absolutely no reason.
Deoxys is only seen as evil because the meteorite it inhabits threatens to destroy Hoenn. He's not malicious, moreso you can perceive his arrival kinda like a natural disaster
Darkrai isn't really evil, hes kinda like a force of nature. it's natural to have nightmares and he's just the embodiment of it.
Giratina was violent, but it still took it's role as maintaner of the universe's balance seriously, especially in PLA
Kyurem was USED for evil but it itself isn't. It's the equalizer to Reshiram and Zekrom who kinda keeps the balance between the two and the main part of the Original Dragon
Necrozma is a rampaging force but he also provides light to his own world, he only attacks out of panic that he's going to run out of energy and is seen as evil because of it's destructive power, while the Ultra Recon Squad loves him because they share the same dimension
Eternatus nearly caused an apocalypse, but it's implied to not have the best control over it's cataclysmic power.
Meanwhile you just have these three jackasses who kinda just bully Ogerpon and manipulate a village to give them what they want before they die and are reveared as heroes
i honestly kinda respect that, they are just cartoonishly evil and i kinda love that
Edit: Yeah the Treasures of Ruin are evil too but i don't feel like it hits the same, i put in specifically that the loyal three are evil for NO REASON. the Ruinous Quartet is evil because they were possessed by evil spirits
Edit 2: While in some ways you can argue the introduction of Pecharunt kinda makes this comment outdated, i don't necessarily think so. None of the Loyal Three know Pecharunt's intentions with the masks, and the chains are mainly amplifying their attributes. The loyal Three would still definitely be evil if Pecharunt didnt introduce the chains imo, they're just now in his control lol. That does mean they're not evil for "no reason" but compared to the other examples of "evil" legendaries, they're without a doubt the most mean spirited of them lol
theyre not evil for no reason, something worse chained them up and sent them to another region to steal the masks. just visually for example if you grab the toxic chain by the big rings then youd painfully strangle or crush them, so clearly the creator uses that threat of pain to drive the loyal three. the loyal three may have even told to return the masks to the more evil creature in town but found he wasnt there so this deception made them easier to kill and the more evil creature ends up not even being in the story despite being the one who was totally at fault in every way.
Also the treasures of ruin are literally Incarnate evil

It’s was even cooler to discover that some versions of the Momotaro story where actually a mistold one too, with the nice guys being the villains.
It’s criminal that the most important part of they’re story is left on the Info bill boards of the map and it goes a away when you defeat they’re giant form, and said story kinda explain why they are called the Retainer’s Pokémon’s and also, like, the whole theory of gen 9 story about the desires?
Also, it surprised me how nobody speculated that they where Poison type’s, when the chains were literally the classic Poison icon

Coming back to this after the Pecharunt video sheds such a new light on them. They're still not redeemable for what they did but at least we now know that they weren't completely acting out of malice at least. Find them incredibly cute too honestly.

They were described as "A Group of Greedy Pokémon" which still holds true
I wasn't sold on their designs at first, but they really grew on me. That seems to be a trend with modern Pokemon, I guess.

The Loyal Three: "Hold our toxic chains."
When I learned of the twist that the Loyal Three were actually villains who became heroes thanks to people not understanding the situation, it shocked me.
These three are based off of characters from a Japanese folktale called “Momotaro”, where a boy born from the Peach (Momotaro) goes out in a journey and befriends three animals, a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant.
Together with his friends, Momotaro journeys to defeat the Oni (Japanese demons) in the island of Onigashima (Oni-Ga-Shi-Ma).
But in this DLC, the Oni are the heroes and Momotaro’s friends are the villains.
And the Poison type was one-hint, besides their designs.
But these Pokemon were once nice, innocent ones until something changed them.
Probably a Poison-type Momotaro peach that granted them such powers.
I don’t think they were nice at all. They were probably monstrous to the core. It’s more like they were ambitious, and via the peach, they gained the power needed to fulfill their ambitions of power
According to their Pokédex entries, the poisonous chains they wear is what gave them their powers, in addition to an explanation as to why they're all Poison type.

I fucking adore these 3, Evil pokemon seen as heroes? Its so refreshing. Ruinous Quartet were TOLD to be evil, Most "evil" legendaries are just, haha die. These 3 not only used their fame to overpower themselves but to steal the masks, AND beat the shit out of Ogerpon. Truly Evil and I love them for that.

I like how these legendary pokemon and Ogerpon are local legendaries since only the town saw them as beings of legend. the legend itself doesnt seem to be nearly as old as the legends of whole regions.

I feel like the best part is that with these villians they didn't lie or do anything to decieve the townsfolk to make them think they were heroes; they just came into the village to steal the masks from Ogerpon and her friend, dying in the end along with Ogerpon. Everyone assumed that they died in a battle to protect them and during the duration that they were dead they ended up being depicted as legends!
Still, could you imagine what was going through their minds? They just came back to life and were likely planning to rob the temple by force; just imagine their surprise when the humans not only willingly give the three of them what they wanted, but they got food as well!
I’m glad that Pokémon isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to making the Pokémon themselves evil this time around. First the vicious Version Mascot who killed Turo/Sada, then the Ruinious Quartet who nearly brought Paldea to an end, and now these three thieves, who are heavily implied to have murdered Ogrepon’s first trainer.
Them being evil is even reflected in their friendship value, which is 0. These guys HATE you. I wonder how they’ll show how evil Terapagos is.

@@mesa8680 in the Scarlet/Violet book, Heath makes record of how he blacked out at one point, had a dream like experience, only to wake up with a piece of paper in his hands. The paper had schematics and was in his handwriting, but Heath himself states he never remembered writing it. The only thing we can take from this is that Terapagos made Heath draft the schematics, which Turo/Sada used after studying Heath’s book. And that’s not even to mention Sada/Turo saw Terapagos, just like Heath did.
After they discovered Terapagos, Turo/Sada’s journals in the research stations get more and more concerning, each one descending further into madness as you go futher into Area Zero. The AI version of the professor saw that their original was acting bizarre. A machine couldn’t be influenced like a regular human can, and the AI stated it was an exact replica, down to the very memories of the professor.
The only way for the AI to not share the same vision as their originals did could only be due to the fact they weren’t able to be brainwashed by Terapagos. If Terapagos isn’t evil, then what sort of end game does it get from having Heath draft up the plans for a Time Machine that wouldn’t be created until some 100 years later? Terapagos can somehow see into the past an future, and pushed the professors to build the machine in order to let the paradox pokemon run wild in the present, which as the AI states, would eventually break out of Area 0 and destroy Paldea. What would Terapagos achieve from doing this if it was good?

I am actually surprised that I haven't seen it, but Ogerpon and Lousy Three are actually a reference to the fairytale of Momotaro. Just in reverse. Because Momotara had a monkey, a pheasant and a dog with him to fight an oni. I really liked seeing this parallel.
