  • Today we ride the Kawasaki Vulcan S, I did not have high expectations or even think I would like this type of motorcycle but it blew me away how fun it actually was to ride. I think this would make a great commuter build. Thanks for watching, cheers!!!

      Test ride as many bikes as you can, yes it's a pain in the ass but it's the only way .

    Good review! I got this as my first bike and only felt intimidated for the first few months. Toce, Arrow, Delkavic, 2 Brothers are just a few of the exhaust options. 3 years and 20K miles on mine as a daily commuter & to get around town (avg 55 mpg) with a Corbin Seat. Very fun bike.

    Having owned this bike for nearly two years, mostly spot on review. Every part of its power and acceleration is fun. “Basically a sport bike” is exactly why I went for it, since I was still under my parents’ roof and wanted a fun bike that looked slow. Scraping pegs is a regular occurrence with this thing.
    It’s also built like an absolute tank, even though it lacks some fit and finish. Ran head on over a full size ladder that had fallen off the back of a truck at 75 mph and this thing shredded the ladder (and my ass) in the process and kept rolling. Lovely machine whose only flaws are its sound and its long term comfort, both of which can be remedied aftermarket. Perfect city bomber.

    The first three gears are perfect for new riders. You can zip around town while you learn the basics. When your ready switch up to gear 4 and 5.

    Fantastic Review. I've been riding my 2022 for a year now as a commuter to and from work, and around about town and it's been fantastic. I grew up around Harley's and I don't care what anyone says, this Vulcan S ABS (I snagged the Cafe because I liked the paint) is a magnificent bike for city or some highway time. I've also had no issues at all. Completely dependable.

    This bike is the “secret” of the 650 class. It’s honestly the most fun I’ve had on a street bike at legal speeds. It’s a recumbent Ninja 650 in every way, more sport bike than cruiser. I have a Rebel 1100 and the Vulcan S is more fun and it’s definitely more comfortable.

      I've just bought a 2020 Vulcan S. It's getting a pre-delivery "Short ass" conversion as i'm only 5' 3". Another great thing that Kawa thought about... Ergo packs. I can't wait for it to arrive.. My boss has recently changed up from a Rebel 500 to 1100 and is berating me for my choice.       @@ivanstewart4511 Congrats. I would buy the Rebel 1100 again, but manual would definitely be more fun for me. I like DCT, and sometimes it’s better, but I think the Rebel just needs to be manual to get the most out of it. The Vulcan S is nothing to look down on. Very fun bike, and definitely can be more fun than the Rebel in some aspects. It’s just not as powerful. Could be faster as the Rebel is limited to 100mph, but that bike still wins in acceleration and sound. Vulcan S is lighter, more fun to chuck around, loves to rev, makes a good intake noise, and is cheap fun! The seat on both of them leaves something to be desired, but the ergos overall are superior on the Vulcan.

    It's a beginner bike. It's only as fast as you want it to be. Power is a safety feature on a motorcycle. The weight is not unmanageable for new riders and It's well balanced. The forward foot pegs will work as well for a beginner. What you learn on is what you learn.
    Not for every beginner. The motorcycle one begins with should perform well under the load of the rider. A heavier rider on a lighter motorcycle will compromise safe handling. A shorter rider on a tall bike will make stops difficult ,especially on uneven pavement and short ramps or steep aprons.
    Better to buy a bike to grow into than out of.
    After graduating from a small motorcycle you will still be a beginner to a larger motorcycle.

    Greetings from Canada !.. I appreciated your enthusiasm w/ the Vulcan s. I've been looking at every cruiser out there. Spec, review, & price points top to bottom. I'm an older rider that doesn't want the weight but appreciates power,but also the more plush seating, and more upright body positioning. Your video really helped with my decision .. Great review.     So basically its a bike you buy when you want comfort and riding position of a cruiser, but you also want something fun and nimble in the twisties and you can only afford one. BTW, you know the review was good when it makes you wanna go and buy one right now lol.

    This is my first bike. Running with a TBR exhaust and it sounds amazing. Maybe too loud for some. Does not feel too powerful for me, but it’s good fun. I’ve been riding with la group of sport bikes and I keep up for the most part. it’s very light too. Once I forgot my kickstand and I was able to yank it back up before hitting the ground.

    Very good honest review - I'm looking at one of these right now for a 2nd bike - I do have a Suzuki C50 and its a really nice comfy cruiser bike too! Not a lot of power but real comfy and fun to ride!

    Probably the best review I’ve seen of the Vulcan S.. I 100% agree with everything said especially when he made his comparisons to the Harley iron or street. It’s about $3-5k cheaper than the comparable Harley’s or cruisers for that matter, but you want for not unless you like chrome or more options like cruise control or different traction controls. The comfort of the Vulcan S is unmatched with the Ergo fit. It’s a truly fun bike for everyone. It’s flickable on the twisties but also offers an easier time doing slow maneuvers than any Harley, Indian, Triumph, or even Honda IMO. The ground clearance is fantastic! My only complaint is the control panel.. I’d like to see something more cruiser looking as a control panel like dual circular triumph or even Harley control panels vs the cheap plastic Japanese one. It’s not really a true complaint as it’s opinion and option based. It’s nice if you are a less experienced rider that the panel has a gear indicator which many cruisers or even many street bikes don’t come with. I love Kawasaki slipper clutch’s which makes the pull smooth and light and makes quick shifting more fun than any other bikes. It also makes it easier to deal with a traffic jam when it’s illegal to lane split. Kawasaki has don’t a better job with its painting schemes than most manufacturers making sure every year to have a like 6 different paint schemes while keeping pretty much everything the same (after 2017 as the ‘15 and ‘16 had some rear light design issue where it was impossible to add some bags without headaches). There’s also tons of aftermarket parts.

    Nice review, your excitements contagious. Ive had mine 2 years. First bike. Love it. Just like ya said! Its quiet.. So got a Firetong. Its sweet sounding now and a booster plug for a smoother throttle response. Cheers from Canada!

    I'm a 65 year old man and I wanted a a cruiser bike that wasn't huge and heavy and vibey but still looked cool, to compensate for my fading masculinity.
    As soon as I saw the Vulcan S I loved it and now I've owned one which looks exactly like the one in the video, for two years .
    Anyway, even after doing my research a bit before buying, I was not at all prepared for just how fast it is! Oh boy, this thing goes like poop off a shovel.
    I've had numerous spats with Tesla drivers - always Tesla drivers for some reason - from traffic lights or off of roundabouts and they always end up eating my dust. On a 650 twin! Wtf?
    Makes me laugh a lot though!
    Want to look cool but ride like the clappers? Get a Vulcan S!

    Great video! Passed my MSF this weekend on the HD Street 500. Nice entry bike honestly, liquid cooled Harley. HD’s out of my budget range. Thinking the Vulcan would be just a bit more and sportier!!! Seeing this video I am getting jazzed up!

    Back riding after 20 years break, owned & rode for about 7 years on different bikes up to 750cc but test rode many other bigger bikes, Wanted to refresh my road scenes after such a long time away & chose the KVS to do that & I'm not disappointed, Its an absolute blast, few upgrades & it's keeper , some will dump on it as a HD wannabe, but don't sweat it, it's great

    I recommend the Arrow exhaust. It has a rich mellow deep sound that's not offensively loud but certainly noticable. I'd kit this bike out with bags, rear seat and back rest , windshield and light bar and the Arrow exhaust. An excellent weekender.

      @ScoutsOut yup, like 3 weeks ago... no experience at all, I'm already driving around my neighborhood to keep learning and feeling more confident. The previous owner had a loud pipe (which is very loud and hurts my ears), but I guess it is better for a little more safety. I'm constantly watching videos and learning more stuff.

      Not so much throttle surge as its just sensitive on the low end. Its my first bike and if anything its taught me to have good throttle control. I did dump the clutch a little too soon once and the front tire did come off the ground a couple inches, scared me a bit but yeah I think its just touchy in 1st gear and maybe slightly in second, but with better throttle control I dont have much of a problem with it.

    6 months of daily driving the 2022 Ninja 400 ABS (which I love) I am looking for more power yet I like comfort.
    Vulcan S or Z900 ??? Any thoughts

      Yea the 400 is such a good bike. I wish I had gotten the chance to ride the z900, I really enjoyed the Vulcan though, I was surprised how much I liked that bike. The z900 ergos should be similar to the 400 just a ton of power. Guess it really depends on style of bike your looking for cruser or sport

    It hasn’t changed since it was introduced in 2015.. maybe the exception would be the gear indicator. Otherwise it’s a bike that does the trick but it is just not exiting. Super reliable but that is it!!! I’ve bought one new, but if I would be in the same situation I would buy a Honda rebel 1100! Almost the same price but way more existing

      I didn’t notice the bike having adjustable seat or pegs, but all bikes can be adjusted with aftermarket parts and styles of seats

    Any advise comparing this bike to an Indian Scout? The reviews here on YT it looks you get al lot of bike for your bucks in comparison to a Scout... Im not a new rider (rode HD FXDB, Yamaha Bolt, now a Honda AT1000) but i doubt its a step back, instead of ahead?

      I've rode the scout and the rogue, both had quite a bit more power then the Vulcan but the Vulcan was way more playful and better one fuel

    First of all, you made a good video on the Vulcan S. I am 70 years old and have owned many mtotrcycles since 1967. When I was seventeen I liked loud pipes, but not any more.
    I've owned V-twins since the nineies and I'm pretty tired of the chung chung chung of a V-twin. I currently own a $37,000 Harley but am thinging of selling it. If I have my way, my next bike will be Vulcan S. Like I said before, I'm tired of V-twins and I like a quiet motocycle so the Vukcan S seems perfect for me. I also like the mag wheels because that means tubeless tires.
    As far as the chain drive, I've had chain, belt and shaft drive motorcycles and even though I prefer a shaft, I'd much rather have a sealed chain than a belt. I probably don't lube and adjust a chain as often as I should because I'm OLD and lazy. I probably lube and adjust a chain drive every 2000 miles or so. With the sealed chains they are not a problem. Belts rub the side of the cog a lot and they sweak when they are wet. Besides all that, if I want to change the gear ratio it is much easier and cheaper with a chain drive.

      Thank you, I Appreciate that. I feel the same way with the Harley’s, I like them but the vibration would get old to me. I too am very lazy, I always say in videos that you should clean/check and relube your chain ever 600 ish miles but only do it myself every 2/2.5k lol.       @@ScoutsOutI've owned four Harleys and none of them vibrated like my old Suzuki Intruder 1500. The newer Harleys, like the 114 CI I own now have no vibtations thanks to the counter balanced engine design.

    yeah the stock exhaust makes it sound like a scooter almost. it has this huge block underneath that kills the sound. similar to what a car has. i switched mine for a delkevic exhaust and now it sounds perfect.

    Do you think this would be a better option than a rebel 1100? I heard the suspension on the rebel is horrible... Im looking to do long rides on it

      thats hard to say man, I haven't rode or seen one at a dealer yet. I just watched a few vids on it and it seems pretty cool. I think the Vulcan would be a little more playful on the back roads at lean angle and quite a bit cheaper but the Honda with cruse control is pretty cool too. There is a lot more tech on the Honda but that could be a good and bad thing. Hope this is helpful, let me know what you end up going with and what you think

      how did u decide? did u bought one or the other? ...if not ... check also the Royal Enfield supermeteor 650 ... i think it combines both bikes u mentioned and with its looks,sound and premium quality beats them both ... also is cheaper then Vulcan ...it is coming out right about now.

      @@marekbabik2791 I got the Vulcan s 650, used (3k miles) for $5.4k after tax. Great bike. The only thing is that its twitchy in 1st gear. Besides that I have no issues with it. The Honda is known to have bad suspension so that was my deciding factor since I live in NY and the roads here are horrible. Also its harder to fix the honda rebel 1100 since theres no much tech to it, and the vulcan used is soo much cheaper

    I almost got a Vulcan last year but I didn’t have good enough credit history at the time so I just got a Kawasaki klx 230 dual sport instead

      @@ScoutsOut yes a friend got one that’s the whole reason I got one so we could both ride together and drive it to work and save money on gas and it gets good gas mileage for only having 1.8 gallon tank. And I only had it for about 3 weeks and I heard it’s not good for some highways because it tops out at 77 mph and kinda wish it had a liquid cooled engine instead of air cooled but other then that i like it I think it’s a good bike

    I agree with you, the Vulcan S is a bit too much power for a new rider. Personally I like the quieter exhaust note, but that's because my wife always rides with me and we talk to each other along the way.
    I like a chain drive better than a belt. The belts tend to squeak when they get wet and you can't change the gear ratio with a belt. With a chain, like on the Vulcan S you can easily change the final drive ratio to siut your own needs by either changing the front spocket or the rear spocket. I found seven differant sizes of rear spockets to fit the Vulcan S.
    I owned motorcylcles since 1967 and some were belt, sone were chain and several were shaft drive. But the chain drive is easy to change the ratio and they don't squeak like a belt and they don't rob power when delivering the poweer to the rear wheel.like a shaft drive does.
    I just sold my last Harley, they ride like a dump truck. I'm now looking at either the Vulcan S or a Triumph Speed Twin 900. Either way, NO MORE HARLEYS FOR ME.
    Thanks for the video, its a very honest opinion of a Vulcan S. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.

      Good point I didn’t even think about the gear ratio swap if you wanted and you loose that with the belt. I was truly impressed with the Vulcan, I’d buy one over a Harley enjoying the money saving upfront and in repairs lol. Thanks for the comment, happy holidays

      @@ScoutsOut The reason I'm so interested in the ratio is because I ride a lot of highways which are posted at 70 mph. I know the Vulcan can easily do this, but have read complaints about the vibrations. You can change the rear spocket from a 46 tooth down to a 42 tooth and it will lower the rpm by about 500 rpm at highway speeds. Thus, reducing the amount of vibrations. I'm OLD and like a smooth and easy ride. The Vulcan S can provide this with a little tinkering.

    Can’t decide between this and the rebel 500. Don’t like the forward controls of the vulcan but like the little extra power out of the 650 over the 500.

      Well that makes it a harder decision for sure lol, i personally liked the position of the Vulcan but it was weird getting used to how forward the pegs were but i did like it. Hondas imo are always just super reliable, not that Kawi isn’t but its hard to beat a Honda and I’m sure the fuel economy would be better in the Honda too. Have you had the chance to sit on both of them?

    Sorry to bother you again. But the best thing about any Kawasaki is that they are very comfortable. I sat on a new HD Nightster and it was awful. LIke sitting on a piece of hard wood for a seat and with very little suspension. The other thing I really like about the Vulcan S is that IT IS NOT A V-TWIN with all that chug chug chug . I like the parallel twin for it's smoothness.

    Bought my first bike, a 2018 Vulcan 650s, defiantly enjoy how peppy it is and the nimbleness around curves. Absolutely hate how quiet the exhaust is, honestly a safety hazard on a bike like this lol

    This concerns the comments about a chain drive or belt drive. My last five bikes were all belt drive and I owned belt drive bikes years ago. The thing I DON'T like about a belt is lining it back up in the middle of the rear cog after you change your rear tire. It can be a real pain because after you tighten it and you think it is perfect, then you go for a ride and it changes its position. And they SQUEAK when they are wet, SQUEAK SWUEAK, SQUEAK, it drives me nuts.
    Of course chains aren't perfect neither, but the newer ones are sealed and makes the need for adjusting and lubing services father apart. And I like that with a chain drive you can easily change the gear ratio. I like a lower rpm at highway speeds so I would probably install a smaller rear spocker to settle the engine down at highway speeds.
    I would also add a windshield or at least a fly screen. Also passenger seat and passenger foot pegs for my wife and a passenger back rest. Now you have to understand, I'm OLD so I might even install a rear luggage rack and a top box which would also be a backrest for my wife. My last two motorcycles have had top trunk and I mean to tell you a top trunk will spoil you. No more bending over searching through your saddle bags looking for something. Just open the top trunk and look through it without bending over. I'm 70 years old so that means a lot to me, even if a top box looks a bit dorky. I'm OLD so who cares?

      Nice to know, I've never had a bike with a belt just heard what others think of the. As for the bags, I'm all about it I have a KLR 650 that I ride daily and I have the saddle bags but I only store warm weather gear or things I don't really need daily. I put a large top box and I love it. I know the bike looks dorky. It I don't care lol I have everything I need in there and its comfortable.

    After about 3k miles on one, mirrors give a great view of my shoulders and elbows. Pegs scrape too easily and the stock tyres are shit even in the occasional dry days we get. Seat starts to give numb butt after about 60 miles.
    It is surprisingly quick up to about 80 but struggles to hit a ton flat out.

      @@mindspinn311 not yet, as I hadn’t intended keeping this bike very long. It was only supposed to be a stop gap until my Moto Guzzi was fixed, but with E10 coming in, and proper petrol not being available at all petrol stations, I may be keeping it a little longer. Adjusting up the rear spring is next, and should definitely help with scraping and probably help the handing too. Cheers.

      I wasnt quite ready to buy a bike yet when i decided i wanted this one. And when i got to looking a little more I found one dealership left in my area with a couple... stood looking at if for what seemed like forever. Decided i couldnt leave with out it lol. glad I did, i dont like the 2022 color schemes. Seems they change them every year though.

      Hard decision for some, you can’t argue the shear cool factor and nostalgia of a Harley. Price point, maintenance, service cost and agility of the kawi is hard to ignore too imo

      Found a 2016 low mileage Vulcan S in very good condition for only $3000. Don't think you will find a Harley Street bob anywhere close to that price.

    No disrespect to anyone but why do Americans compare every thing with a Harley , it’s like us comparing every Harley against Triumph,Norton,BSA ( British) etc and we haven’t even started on the Japanese bikes or V twins Harleys aren’t bad if every journey you do is on a long open highway but in cities or urban riding there hernia material answer me honestly how many of us have had to push a bike slightly up a hill because some old lady couldn’t reverse her car or have found that that little narrow road was a dead end up the slope of a hill and now you’ve got to maul the thing around because it’s to dodgy to reverse it, and when your bike weighs over 700 pounds that’s not funny . So why doesn’t Harley produce a sport cruiser to fill in an obvious hole in the American market just produce a decent light cruiser with an affordable price tag

      Well said, I agree. Harley has always owned that cruiser market in America and in the past used to be one of the biggest ripoffs as dealers would never sale you a stock bike. They would only sale you one with there upgraded aftermarket parts to get more money out of you. people loved them so much it didn’t matter what they cost which sucked and now they are struggling to get bikes out and some better deals and n bikes could possibly bring them back to life time will tell

      @@ScoutsOut I completely agree my friend they must realise that the times have moved on and although people still like to ride V twins ( I have only just sold the Vulcan Vn 900 that I’ve owned for15 years) more people now want lighter sports cruisers ,expedition bikes and lighter tourers than a few years back and I think that Harley is more than capable of making a reliable parallel twin that’s both light reliable and cost effective and still keep its V engined bikes but they need to be more realistic with their prices, keep the quality up plus make it easier to obtain service data ,if all the Japanese could made decent V’s and parallel twins as well as single cylinders then surely Harley can but as you correctly said about the price .Years ago in the U.K. we use to build “Vincent’s “ they were years ahead of their time reaching speeds weren’t matched for many years and as kids we used to dream of owning one and indeed some even now would give their right arm to own one but unfortunately they became more and more expensive until no one could afford one and they went into liquidation.

      @@ScoutsOut I was arguing with myself over the Ninja 650, or the Vulcan S. I think I've settled on the Vulcan. Plan on long trips between Texas, and Canada, so need some comfort with some pep, and I like the ability to still take corners and curves with a bit of a lean.

    Harley bikes aren’t that popular anymore. Most Harley riders and buyers are over 50 years old! That leaves a big majority that have different tastes for bikes. I will bet big money that the majority of Harley riders, if not all, got started riding a Honda or Yamaha or a Kawasaki.

      @@ScoutsOut A sportbike. Kawa named it a Vulcan because the have no replacement in a lot countrys. I would call it a urban Ninja, Versys Street, ... 22mm handlebars, high revving, short stroke engine, sport rim and tire sizes, suspension, swingarm, frame, super silly sound, leightweight, and all the rest... it is no cruiser, even no sport cruiser. Just a good looking fun bike. The funny part is, a lot owners imagen that they ride a cruiser, even a mini Harley V rod. 🤪🤣😛😭💦💦
