Finally! I paid for the Premium version first thing only to GET the 787... and was disappointed when I saw how much work it still needed ! Took this out last night and am much happier with it!
A brief correction: you don't need a perf calculator to get somewhat accurate V Speeds and CG/trim - the computer will calculate these for you. You must first select a runway in Dep/Arr page. Then go to perf init, type in the desired flaps value (>=5), and it will calculate the correct V speeds for you. You can then enter them in by clicking on their respective buttons OR you can enter in your estimated takeoff weight, which will then recalculate your v speeds (it's okay to skip the ETOW if desired). Lastly, hit the CG button, and a CG percentage will appear in the scratchpad, along with an accompanying trim value for TO.
Not realistic to do so as this thing doesn't take in account the runway length and slippery conditions. Therefore you are sure to get a wrong v1 on short/ contaminated runways. In real life this function is mainly used to crosscheck the speeds from an appropriate take off performance tool.
@@Hk-uw8my Are you sure it doesn't take into account runway length? It won't let you do this until you select a runway. Moreover, if you change runways, it sends an FMS message that says "v speeds deleted". When you go back and get the new speeds, sure enough, it has calculated new ones. Regarding contamination of runway, if it's anything like any other Boeing I've flown (PMDG 737), then you just go to the next page and tell it that the runway is wet. Bottom line - most of us don't have access to a real calculator. A) Surely the built-in FMC is better than nothing, and B) surely it's false to say that you can't use the standard perf page to calculate relatively accurate V speeds.
@@danmoretti8898 of course if you select an another runway it would be very nice not to keep the speeds of the previous one that you entered earlier,it's just common sense but doesn't mean that the fmc actually takes in account the runway lenght. Anyway, yes im sure of it and so Boeing in the FCTM . Fmc and qrh speeds donot consider important settings such as the runway length available , minimum engine climb gradient and obstacle clearance requirements. Therefore they can only be used when compliance of these requirements has been verified separately with a proper source. Runway contamination is also not supported, a wet runway doesn't necessarily mean contaminated ,in aviation there is a well distinct difference between these two words. A wet runway means that the surface is covered by water or something similar with a depth of 3mm or less. In this case, you still have a good controllability and braking action and this specific runway condition is actually what you see labeled as wet in the fmc of the pmdg 737 and the real one. A contaminated runway however has a contaminant depth greater than 3mm , for example standing water. Here The impact on performance is a lot more consequent and you have no way of adjusting your V1 with the fmc alone. So yes i agree that if you cant find any external ressource then it is better to at least get something to fill but however saying that the speeds are accurate is wrong. They can be accurate as long as you are on dry and very long runways , and without any obstacles ahead( facing the sea may be the best). Otherwise , you'd better have a good judgment about the runway lenght, disable all possible failures in order to forget about V1 , and watch out after lift off.
Just had my first flight with the 787. Great video and amazing rework of this airliner by Working Title. Can't wait for more videos with the 787! Thanks.
Great video! I haven't flown a Boeing in flight sim for years, gonna have a go now, looks great! Barking dog in Airbus and meowing cat in Boeing lol Thanks cap, great stuff.
I tested out the autoland and it was perfect i programed the ils on both fmc with the course set on both using navigraph. Put my runway heading in also. And man it followed the loc and the app perfect man i was shocked
Thanks for the great video. It looks like a huge improvement over what it was when it just came out. I remember starting it up and giving up in about 10 minutes. Hopefully, they keep on improving it further.
You get used to it with this guy - the most comprehensive and clear instructor on sim (and Real World) flight I've come across. Always required viewing!
Great that they have fixed all the niggles with the plane when it was launched originally. I bought the premium deluxe edition, after buying the basic version, specifically to get this aircraft, and I was gutted when I tried out the half cooked model. Sure it may not be PMDG or iniBuilds, but it’s just as good.
I was going to buy the PMDG for close to 70. But I can upgrade my MSFS to premium for 85, get this and 9 other planes and 10 premium airports. Guess I’ll get the PMDG later down the road.
I'm impressed that you have the headspace to not only be type rated on Airbus, but also know your way around the 787 so proficiently and quickly, especially when a lot of this stuff is new to the sim. Do you read Boeing manuals for fun? :D The upgrades look very impressive. At this point I feel like it would be easier to just tell us what they HAVEN'T modelled fully yet. Is there much they've left out? I saw someone make a comment that VNAV is still not fully modelled. Not sure if that's accurate or not.
I guess there have been some updates since this video because the current version calculates the V-speeds on the fly and removes and recalculates if you change some affecting values. Similarly, there wasn't a connection to Simbrief and you had to perform the flight plan design on the FMS. This has of-cause been updated and you are able to load the flight plan from Simbrief. It did however take some time for me to get my head around that and find where the Simbrief ID was entered. One thing bugged be though on this plane, which I do not recall having been a problem on the old Heavy and that is the FLC. In order to follow the ATC instructions I had to descend in several sections from FL400 down to approach and landing. Everything was fine down to FL180 but from then on the FLC frequently disconnected without completing. In the end, I had to disconnect the A/P and descend manually. Unfortunately, I'm unable to report any bugs because I can't log in to the flight simulator forum. There has has been the same response for the last couple of years ie. the software driving this has some errors and we will look at it, or something like that. Anyway, if this is a bug, I guess it will be reported eventually by someone who has access. Finally, I'd like to thank you very much for the stream with the Dreamliner pilot, it was very enjoyable to follow along and highlighted some interesting points.
So far I havent flown the 787. With the new Polystorm 3D cockpit texture upgrade, Im a bit more interested. Have you seen the new cockpit textures, and what are your thoughts? Is it worth the add…or I should say, does this aircraft justify the expense of the add?
With this update, I can be in the middle of take-off. And out of nowhere, it'll violently pitch down. Causing me to crash most times, I keep my auto trim set to automatic . Is it something I'm doing wrong ? Or is it just another glitch / patch they need to fix?
Some long haul flights to stream - about 10hrs from EGLL to KLAX!! No walking away and leaving the controls to the 1st Officer. He/she will probably just sleep
Thanks for the video... I have just started playing MSFS again after a long break... done a couple of flights in the Dreamliner (also 747) and would love to see more in-depth video's about the aircraft systems, and meanings of things like "FLCH" etc... I think the best format is would be a generalized video first... then a detailed one about what you see in every cockpit view perhaps? Also, a video about an easy way to resume a saved flight, and keep the flight plan intact would be awesome... I am totally lost about how to input the flight plan (while you are mid flight), and it is my biggest frustration with the Sim in general... I would love to do a longer flight, but no doubt not in one sitting, and to be able to resume it without too much hassle is what I am looking for.... this could include how to divert to another airport altogether... Cheers👍👍👍
After a major update a week or so ago, My b787 and b747 will no longer follow navigation instructions. Whether I use the world map to set departure and arrival, or use the flight management system. Is anyone else having this problem. The A320 and my other aircraft navigate as usual. How do I solve this?
I wish the Airbus aircrafts got as much love as the Boeing ones from MS. Look at the Boeing 787 and 747 and then look at the airbus A320neo. Such a stark difference in the level of detail. I don't think the aircraft has got a single update since launch. Also apart from the A320neo we don't have any other modern airbus aircraft like A350 or the A380!
Hey. You are a Real Pilot . Could you tell me which zoom level looks most realistic in the pilot view? In the camera config file zoom level 0.50 or 0.35 ?
Just a quick video-tipp: Your video was very quiet. You can check that for yourself if you rightclick on the video - "Stats for nerds". There you will find "Volume / Normalized 100% / 100% (content loudness -11.8dB)". What that means is that youtube itself said that your video was 11.8dB too quiet. You should aim to get +-0. Had to turn everything up on my pc to enjoy the engine-sounds 😅
Asobo supposedly fixed issues with the default 787-10 in the last update, but they also added more issues than the ones they fixed, so I'm disappointed.
I really appreciated your first officers inputs on this update, very knowledgable
She always knows just what to say to help us get going!
Get a catcam!! :)
Full tutorial with your 787 pilot buddy perhaps???? Like your other one. That was fun.
I'll try and convince Steve to return for a sequel!
Still no VSD though! 😝

wow microsoft finally putting effort into an aircraft? never thought i'd see this
Why? They’ve put a lot of effort into some aircraft, but some aren’t the best because of the large amount of aircraft that had to be made.
Why are there so many flap settings on a Boeing? I love that Airbus aircraft have only 1,2,3 and 4!

320 Sim Pilot in a Boeing? WHAT???? Hehehe...
Why are wide-bodies not so common with flight simulators? You'd think they'd be extremely popular.
They are common, there are a lot of addons that were made, as well as the A310 we received on the 40th anniversary.
Should / can we still use this with the heavy division mod?
