Also I thing a regular series with 3 seasons to tell the story would be fine to see both points of views of the town before and after some of the people were turned into vampires. Keep it in the 70s and include One for the Road to introduce a potential spin off to see how the other vampires live and what type of community they have built and how do they function without a leader?

I've seen the 1979 adaptation (starring David Soul) and the 2004 which I've completely forgotten. The '79 version is really good. I'm looking forward to watching this new one but I wish it was a mini series because the book is quite long and the story is great throughout. Anyway, thanks for this review.

I knew this would be no match for the 1979 version. You can't effectively cram Salem's Lot into a hour and a half movie. This should have been in two parts. Such a bummer this falls short and sacrificed the character development and story build up. Salem's Lot is my favorite SK novel.

The original was the best. David Soul and Bonnie Bedelia...perfection.

I loved the book, the 70's mini series was good also. Still going to watch this one to see.

If it's only being released on streaming, I don't understand why they wouldn't tell more of the book's major themes and take time to get to know the brilliantly written characters more, giving us a 3+ hour ride similar to the 1979 classic. Considering this film's been shelved for years it seems they have no faith in it and that's a real shame.

Too bad the director didn't say to WB, "Did you watch Midnight Mass? Did you see how much atmosphere, dread and build up to the reveal of the lead vampire there was? Yeah, that's what we need to do for Salem's Lot or the hardcore fans of the book and '79 series are going to dismiss this film."

Midnight Mass was fantastic and it was kind of a loose version of Salem's Lot. Mike Flanagan who directed it would have been perfect to do the Salem's Lot movie.

The 3-4 season series have more than enough time to capture that slow burn.

I knew that after being delayed once, twice and three times this film would not be what fans were hoping for! Now, we know why Warner held it back from theatrical release! It wasn't worthy of a large-screen treatment, and they knew it all along! I haven't really seen anything in the released trailers that convinces me to watch this version! Warner and Doberman fell short of expectations!

It will be here (US) on the 3rd, on HBO MAX. I tried listening to the audiobook but couldn’t get pass the first chapter as I was bored. Not a fan of Stephen King writing., but I enjoy the movie version.

    What happened to Mark Petrie?

Mark Petrie is being played by Jordan Preston Carter in this version. He's a little black boy. Not got a problem with that. No problem with it at all. But some people have, who are undoubtedly racist, in my book. 😡

Honestly, I feel that Salem's Lot should be made into series to flesh out all of the characters in the book and also make it a period piece in the 70s. At least 15 -23 episodes like Supernatural season one to get to know the town and the characters and back stories of the characters. Then afterwards do a spinoff to see things for the vampires point of view. Also a limited mini series about Hubbie Marsten and how the legend began.

I watched and it was not good at all. It should’ve stayed true to the book which means it should’ve been a mini series. The 1979 and 2004 versions are excellent. Watch those instead.

Straker was a bad actor, and Barlow was a CGI, cartoon.
