@@greganguiano4308 I see that your details are incorrect. You have not researched Trainer Calvin Ford. Ford was not “ in and out” of jail. He did a 10- year stretch in prison. Ford returned to his environment with a mission: to save black youths from dying. With white policemen shooting black youths every 30 hours, (the white man’s killing character-as demonstrated with the near genocide of American Indians), he chose to save black males from the streets. He was not alone in his mission- educators are with him. Ford’s boxing school still has a waiting list to this very day! Baltimore is an example that when the system and its resources do not holistically support its Residents, it is up to them to make that environment better. Recently Tank just purchased a block to create low- cost housing. Even Angel Reese does her part.

In a lot of ways Calvin is his pops. I think back to the sweet scene where he makes a cinnamon bun for Tank and tells him to just take a bite only for Tank to go in for another bite. Calvin just cracks up like a father who knows his son. It’s so much harder to take in a kid as a mentor and be consistent in there lives than it is to make one and simply show up. To devote yourself to being present for a child who has no direct connection to you and do it so well the child feels like you’re family is something that requires time, heart, and gentleness (because some of these kids are scarred). I have a step dad who raised me and have forgiven my dad, but although biological, he is never first in my life. Simply because he hasn’t earned it the way another man coming into your life leads to him raising you like his own has. I have a feeling for Tank it’s no different. Calvin is pops because his presence in Tank’s life was the primary difference maker.

A lot of bad coaches in boxing today. I blame MMA. Jiu Jitsu guys take one boxing class and call themselves a boxing coach.

I grew up with so many naturally talented kids that didn't have the direction and the discipline. They could've been something great, myself included. Wasted talent, the saddest thing in the world.
