Just to clarify Lay’s music and music videos that he’s producing now is different and separate from KPOP. He payed for the production of this mv all on his own and spent millions on this music video. He classifys his music as MPOP which stands for Mandarin pop, and he wants to show Chinese culture through his music, and this song is also based on the story about a Chinese hero XiangYu, and Lay also used a good amount of Chinese instruments in this song. Just to let anybody know that it will be sad to put all of this effort under the name of KPOP when it’s completely different from what he’s trying to do.
This Chinese title of this song means lotus, and that’s why the lotus flower keeps on appearing in the music video. In Chinese culture lotus is symbolized as pure and clean because it grows from mud but doesn’t get polluted by its surrounding. Now days people use lotus ironically to describe someone who’s faking to be pure and clean. Lay’s antis use this phrase to describe him (cuz they can’t find anything else to attack him). So Lay decided to make this song mocking the people who’s trying to take him down. Truly the king of China!
For those who don't know: It is not K-pop. It is M-pop, a concept proposed by Lay, which stands for mixed mandarin pop. It is mandarin plus other kinds of language, but not just about language. Most of the instruments he uses are traditional Chinese instruments, talking about the story of a hero in ancient China, Xiang Yu, and there is also Chinese opera, but the beat is dark trap, a mixture of traditional and modern music. The company that makes the CG is the same company who makes that for Parasite.
@Phạm Thanh Trúc Lay's concept is M-pop which is MIXED mandarin pop. This concept focuses on "MIX" that contains the mixed languages and mixed music style. The mandarin pop you mentioned is more often defined as C-pop or Mandopop. Lay's M-pop belongs to C-pop, but they are actually different concepts.
MandoPop started in the 70-80s. And there are other Chinese language pop sub genre which are cantoPop and Hakka pop. The concept of modern M-Pop Lay is trying to do, refers to Mix MandoPop, mashing of Chinese Musial element and pop started around late 90s and the beginning of 2000s. The previous generation of artist such as Jay Chow, LeeHong Wong etc have already made successful attempts at it by mashing Chinese traditional music with RnB and rap. Lay, Kris Wu is taking this genre future by integrating it with hip hop, urban, edm such as trap beats, etc.
He broke the record in pre-order by selling 1.5 million DJ copies in the first seven minutes . Also,he sold 2 million DJ copies on the first day of the album's release. In short he is the king of China.
mvrtaxa digital copies are online albums on music platforms such as spotify and QQ (china). In addition, the price of a physical album is higher than that of a digital album, so obviously the number of sold-out digital albums can be way higher than that of physical albums. A non-fan can be willing to purchase a digital album but not really want to buy a physical album. Thats it.
The story in the "Lit" MV, Lay said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.) I don't know the story in Jet Lee's "Hero," but if that movie is also based on this historical battle, then it might be similar. But "Hero" is not where Lay took the story from. Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are unforgiving conditions. Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful then you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc. The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down. Lay is is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. And "Lit" is a prime example of that.
If you really study the credits. you will see that this MV was produced by Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay -- he owns the studio. (Lay is a stage name given to him by SM Entertainment, his real name is Zhang Yixing.) So, If you read the credits, you will see that Lay has his hand in almost every aspect of this production. He is the one that wrote and composed the song and he even produced the beat himself. He is his own beat-maker.He is also executive producer, he helped choreograph and he helped direct the MV, etc. But that's normal for Lay's solo work With Lay, when you ask who did it?-- for any part of the song, MV or choreography -- you are pretty much guaranteed that the answer is: Lay. He does it all. He is such a perfectionist that there is almost nothing that he is involved in that he doesn't have 100% control of himself. He prides himself in the fact that all aspects of his music are created by him.
Thank you for that very detailed explanation this reaction was my very first look at this man's work and I am just wowed by how good it was so based on everything that you've said I'm going to be looking for much more of his work. This was beautifully done in the story it told was amazing the cinematography was amazing the dance the singing all of it on point and just wow people wonder in the US why I like K-pop because I am older than most of the K-pop fans but I like K-pop exactly for reasons like this because there is so much that goes into K-pop and I let me correct myself M pop that you don't get that type of music that type of quality MV with American music American music is unfortunately not very high quality it's boring and it's in very large part everyone recycles everyone else's ideas it's formulaic and that is where K-pop and and M-pop Excel at telling a story at capturing your imagination at putting on a show and they have my utmost respect for that.
What does SM even do then? Just stamps the video with thier watermark like, "We didn't really do anything, but he's my kid so I get some credit too." 😂

He made the choreo himself, composed the song himself, arrange the lyrics himself, produced this mv song himself and everything. Lay is a Genius! Thankyou for reacting! This made me happy.😊
A fun fact:“莲”(lotus)is actually a nickname that his haters calling him in China. It has some negative and sarcasm meanings. I can sense of way of answering back to his haters in the lyrics of this song. Well done, well done Lay.
This is filmed in HengDian, the largest filming studio/site in the world. A lot, if not ALL, Chinese historical dramas and movies are filmed there. This took 6 months and the budget for this MV was estimated to be 10 million RMB, or 1.4 million USD, all funds are from his studio (not SM lmao).
The video is huge and luxurious in all standards in terms of production and directing, choreography, melody, directing music , The graphic effects ... and most of all, really attracted me to the holography of " the dragon " 😭 and the cinematography .This is Masterpiece has one copy in the world and all of the music industry 😌 . I think Marvel should clap and greet Yixing with any gratitude 👏👏 LAY Zhang Thank You So Much King 👑
Yixing, We Are One 💛✨ our healing unicorn, our China sheep. He also sang the intro part, played some instruments in the back, produced everything and also this song is based on an ancient real King. Lay is fireeee 🔥🔥
He was preparing this from long ago I swear he is so hardworking , I've never seen someone as hardworking as him , and the album is PERFECT he did a great job
In fact, He was filming this video from last year, he spent on this MV from his own money, the MV was made in the largest studios in the world and co-directed by huge companies such as those that directed the film Parasite, which won 4 Awards in Oscar .. He spent on this MV from his own money, also he was the producer and executive producer, music director, choreographer, author, composer .. And among the things that touched my heart, he mentioned everyone who worked with him until mor than 100 Actors mentioned them by name Lay did a huge huge effort, I hope All EXOLs and Everyone has a taste to Support The King Lay Zhang 👑
*LAY* is a very laid back type of person, he don't get hype. His unbothered presence makes me get hype, like I want to jump myself!!! The man literally killed this, the *MV* tho gives me a *"Daechwita"* vibe by *Agust D* The krumping part made me make the *stank face* like yuuuuuckkkkkkkk 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lay is pure Genius and I'm not hyping that. Lay is pure perfection-as an artiste and as a person. Lay turns negative into a positive. He rises above the haters. I love this man.
Lay is Zhang Yixing and he produced, choreographed and wrote the lyrics himself. He spend 1.4 million dollars of his own money to make this music video. It’s basically a response to all the hate he has received over the years. People calling him two faced hence the lotus reference from Chinese culture. He is making a war declaration to say he is here to stay and to thrive. Side note, you should check out Lay on Street Dance China. He is a group leader there along with Jackson wang and Wang Yibo. They have amazing dance competitions.

Also PLS react to his other song Jade!!! It's so good!! Please!!
Ive never seen a mv that well made, the video fits so well with the song, I could get into cinematography and and choreography, but I think its pretty clear that there is essentially no debate wether anything is not on point cuz everything is so perfect about this.

Yes, Lay had put in a lot of effort on his 4th album. Especially this music video. He is using the production company whom won awards in Oscar with Korean Movie Parasite that is why the cgi is so Lit. There is a lot of stories/reference in the album concepts and music video. He also using many symbolic term and words playing between mandarin and english. Very very interesting. The whole concepts came from an ancient powerful Chinese WarLord / General named Xiang Yu with his lover Lady Yu Ji. (At the very beginning part with Beiking Opera) . This song 'Lit' is from the perspective of General Xiang Yu while another song of the album 'Jade' is from the perspective of Lady Yu Ji. In this song ' Lit' is projecting the mighty General with dignity that will not give up easily even he had been surrounded by enemies and will not knee or to surrender. He rather die in dignity. Just like Lay that will continue perusing his dream and worked hard to achieve it despite the haters that laugh and look down at him and his dream.
Hey Bris! Lay made a Re-reaction to his song "Lit". There's also your reaction too!!! Graduation! I think every Idol knows you cause his was like "hey bro!"
Lol when Lay watched your video he chuckled a little at the end when you said “I can’t even pronounce that studio name” because the studio name (Zhang Yixing) is his real name 😂 Honestly I can’t pronounce it either so you’re not alone
It is assumed that he reacted to someone who dissed him when he won a a award for acting saying that the acts so innocent but he is not or something ain't sure but that flower is Lotus my favorite flower beauty amongst mud. Presuming that this is the answer to that hater
My jaw literally dropped on the floor when the dragon appeared and Lay obviously with his dance. This mv is a MASTERPIECE. periodt. And btw he’s done a re-reaction to this video!
The beat maker of this song is a young Chinese producer, Anti-general. He is my favorite music producer in china. He's good at making dark trap and exotic trap music . I don’t even need to check the credit and I heard the signature bass in the transition part, I recognized he definitely collaborated with Lay. Lay was as a judge in a music competition last year , and he met Anti-general. Lay was immediately amazed by Anti-general and his talent, that’s why this song was made. Anti-general is a really gifted music producer, his songs are really good to listen, especially for people who love EM and trap. I really hope he can be known by more people. If you want to listen to more his songs, go and check out his SoundClouds page. Here is the link soundcloud.com/anti-general
Man your reaction is so energetic and I love it. I respect your passion. Also, there are some extra information you might wanna know, the huge flower in the mv is lotus, and that is also the Chinese name of the song: “莲”. And the studio that produced this music video “zhangyixing studio” is name after lay, lay’s Chinese name is “张艺兴zhangyixing”.
It is very normal for the people thinking of KPOP as the first thing when they see such work from Lay or Jakson Wang and other Chinese artists. Great stuff comes out of culture fusion, China and Korea, and the West. It is so nice to see this generation of Chinese artists putting in so much hard work and talents into the production of great work like this one and contributing a bit Chinese culture, attitude and inspiration to the audience across the world. The video is huge and luxurious in all standards in terms of production and directing, choreography, melody, directing music , The graphic effects ... and most of all, really attracted me to the holography of " the dragon " 😭 and the cinematography .This is Masterpiece has one copy in the world and all of the music industry 😌
. I think Marvel should clap and greet Yixing with any gratitude 👏👏
LAY Zhang Thank You So Much King 👑
Yixing, We Are One 💛✨ our healing unicorn, our China sheep. ALWAYS. even knowing what his artistry is capable of as his sensual choreo is etched into my heart, i was Not prepared for Lit MV! but bris, "SOUL" just Hits different🔥 Jade, H2O-- LIT album entirely! to think, this is only part ONE with more tracks to come soon!!!!! back to Lit MV, it is a Masterpiece of dance, traditional instrumentals, featuring Yixing's honey vocals & one stellar dragon. i will never, ever let this go.
This song just makes me feel so proud of Lay. it feels like a wholeass movie.
I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT YOU REACTING TO THIS! MY MINDDD ... THANKS FOR THE REACTION
His first released part of the album is legittt
He also sang the intro part, played some instruments in the back, produced everything and also this song is based on an ancient real King.
Lay is fireeee 🔥🔥
That part when the dancers glided like swans I died. Great mv I am spoiled now lol
He was preparing this from long ago I swear he is so hardworking , I've never seen someone as hardworking as him , and the album is PERFECT he did a great job
YASSSS I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR REACTIONS, WHEN YOU GET HYPE I FEEL YA EVERYTIME LEGIT🙌YEAH LAY JUST SLAYYYYED DAT SHXT
And among the things that touched my heart, he mentioned everyone who worked with him until mor than 100 Actors mentioned them by name
Lay did a huge huge effort, I hope All EXOLs and Everyone has a taste to Support The King Lay Zhang 👑
The beginning of it remind me of Hero too the Jet Li movie.
This went hard
Really? I thought the same thing. Wow. I remebered Jet Li's moment of death in the first 17 seconds. 💔
Lay has his new mv step out!!
“You Naasssty” @ 3:42, yep he is 😂😂😂😂😂
Lay saw your reaction to Lit. Thanks you for reacting to this and congrats. He appreciates your reaction
Hahaha he say "OMLAY" That is my now my phrase.... 4:46
it easily top3 comeback of this year bruh people need to stop sleeping on lay , he produces and writes his own music
*LAY* is a very laid back type of person, he don't get hype. His unbothered presence makes me get hype, like I want to jump myself!!! The man literally killed this, the *MV* tho gives me a *"Daechwita"* vibe by *Agust D*
The krumping part made me make the *stank face* like yuuuuuckkkkkkkk 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Between this and Daewitcha, these videos are both better than most movies I’ve seen these days.
That OH MY LAY! Hahaha i feel you! It's mind blowing!! 💯❤️️
I reeaally recommend 'Yu' ('Jade')! It was a Single release over a week ago without a MV. It is also on the album(the whole album is dope tho)
That is my favorite track on that album! So good!!
@@ExSpatchForDispatch Mine too!
Lay watched your "lit" reaction and some youtubers reaction too.
Its so good when ı see you on his screen ı screamed.
He reacts all le time like he watching a movie than the music
Lay is pure Genius and I'm not hyping that. Lay is pure perfection-as an artiste and as a person. Lay turns negative into a positive. He rises above the haters. I love this man.
the first time I watched it I was like "oh bris is gonna LOVE this"
The formation that they did in the beginning reminded me of the Tree choreo in Wolf😭💖
It’s been a long time since I saw Bris having hype like that. The king of China did his job tho
They have amazing dance competitions.
yes i know it ...i know you'll react to it ... lay sometimes sees fans reactions to his music ...I'll definitely recamande your's ...cause you're the best ...i didn't watch it yet ..but i know it'll be fiiiiiiiireeeeee
im sorry but which one were you referring to? you haven't watched the mv yet or this reaction video? im confused
Bro. Lay just watched your reaction for his MV and he was thrilled😍🙊
Hey! Love your videos! I’m learning Chinese and the character “莲” means lotus. When he says it fast it sounds like LIT so the big flower is a lotus.
i've never saw Bris doing this kind of reaction ahahaha.. i really loved this..of course Lay is on another level..he is king of China
Yes , Lay is dancing King 🔥👑
That dragon is everything. My jaw dropped to the floor; it's just so majestic.
I WAS WAITING FOR THISSS YOU HAVE NO IDEAA!!! 😭😭❤️👍🏻
HE WRECKED US ALL 😭👌🏻 That big ass flower is a Lotus the alternate name!
I'm watching this rn and you're hyping me at 1 AM FFS!! Imma wake up my neighbour again lmao
I love to see you wrecked by Lay =))
btw this is from the 1st part of his 4th album! The other half will be released later, so maybe you can check it out!
He worked with a lot of people, but he has his studio too (Zhang Yixing Studio as you saw in the credits), he did the lyrics, he produced it, he arranged it..the whole album!
He's a genius!
HEY LAY RE-REACTION ON 'LIT' AND HE THANKED YOU FOR UR COMMENT ABOUT THE MV!!!!
Automatic thumbs up!! I was sooo impressed with this mv, the CGI, the choreography, everything!!! It was lit!!!!!
I love your intro music, gives me goosebumps everytime
I still can't get over this song 😍😍❤️
ok first i really love your reaction and i'm so happy you did lay reaction he wrote the lyrics he is the pd he even designed the dance the music video every thing so please give him love and i wish you listen to the full album trust me you will shock the king of china is not caring finally i want you to react to chanyeol yours you won't regret
His vocal his dance also he did everything from the producing to the choreo .... What a multi talented ... He deserve more and more
Lol when Lay watched your video he chuckled a little at the end when you said “I can’t even pronounce that studio name” because the studio name (Zhang Yixing) is his real name 😂
Honestly I can’t pronounce it either so you’re not alone
I need more friends who feel this way OMG 😂😭 Lay was the boy since Exo-M lemme tell ya
He made a re-reaction video in which he actually viewed your reaction video😱😱💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Support our all round talented king Lay plz! He is so hardworking and humble and definetly deserves more recongnition! Stan Lay!!!
It is assumed that he reacted to someone who dissed him when he won a a award for acting saying that the acts so innocent but he is not or something ain't sure but that flower is Lotus my favorite flower beauty amongst mud. Presuming that this is the answer to that hater
I'm so proud of our sheep, our healing unicorn, he deserve every praise👍
Omg !! this is the first time i see you scream that much on a reaction 🤣🤣🤣 i was reacting to u more than the mv 😆😆🔥🔥🔥
My jaw literally dropped on the floor when the dragon appeared and Lay obviously with his dance. This mv is a MASTERPIECE. periodt.
And btw he’s done a re-reaction to this video!
I LOVE HIS REACTIONS OMG😂🥺🥺
Lay reacted to your reaction! Congratulations 😭👏🏽
Lay reacted to your reaction with other people's reactions. He said thank you bro to your "you naaaasssty "😅❤
Fam lay reacted to ur reaction. I’m so proud and nvr been happier
Just a little fact, your reaction was react by Lay himself
The chinese name of this song is "lotus", and its similar pronounciation as "lit" , so he actually said "I am the lotus (lit)"
Lay just reacted to this video of yours!!!!
Lay!He’s amazing!
Lay reacted to you reaction 😱
I can’t get over this mv, the beat, the melody, the whole scenes are just like a movie IT’S SO FCKN AMAZING AND INSPIRING
Lay just reacted to your reaction bro
It is very normal for the people thinking of KPOP as the first thing when they see such work from Lay or Jakson Wang and other Chinese artists. Great stuff comes out of culture fusion, China and Korea, and the West. It is so nice to see this generation of Chinese artists putting in so much hard work and talents into the production of great work like this one and contributing a bit Chinese culture, attitude and inspiration to the audience across the world. MPOP starts to look reeeeal gooooood.
HE SAW YOUR REACTION!!!!!
LAY IS BOSS RIGHT NOW...... HE HAVE OWN ENTERTAINMENT NOW....... HE IS KING'S...... 🥰🥰🥰🥰🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
